  1. I previously owned a Lexus RX450h (fourth generation) which was an absolutely wonderful car in every respect. The car was very refined, very comfortable and easy to drive, and considering the size of the vehicle was quite economical. There are only two of us in the household and we are both in our late sixties, the main problem with the RX 450H was parking as it quite a large car. We both made a decision to downsize, so we visited the local dealership and went for a test drive in a UX250H sport Design. After the test test drive we were both impressed with the car and decided to purchase a new model that had been in the showroom. We were able to secure a very good discount on the vehicle as it was the older model, the new UX300H was just about to be launched. Having owned the vehicle for just over two months now I am really impressed with car, the vehicle is very manoeuvrable, and provides comfortable seating for the driver and passenger. My UX has Faux leather seats which I find to be quite acceptable, they seem to be harder wearing than leather and are very comfortable even on longer journeys. My only criticism with the vehicle is the road noise transmitted through the car via the run flat tyres, particularly when travelling over rough road surfaces. The tyres I have on the vehicle are Bridgestone's (probably not the best for road noise). We recently travelled to Devon in the car which was a round trip of 380 miles, throughout the trip the car performed flawlessly. We found that the boot size was adequate for two people, we could comfortably fit a large suitcase and other baggage in the luggage compartment (we have the TWD version). Whilst travelling on the motorway I could see that the vehicle was switching between ICE and battery power even at speeds of 60MPH, to my surprise the at end of the journey the car had averaged 62MPG which is outstanding. The vehicle was showing 490miles since the last refuel, and the low fuel warning light was not even showing. I have the Lexus Link App which gave me the following trip information since the car was refuelled : Trip Distance - 476 miles MPG - 62 MPG EV - Distance Driven - 120 miles I intend to keep this car for a long period of time, I think that hybrid vehicles still have a long future.

  2. NFU have come in at £850 with a pledge not to increase premiums year to year as they don't have shareholders to please. Their cover includes national breakdown/assist, window replacement and very reasonable excesses (zero to £350 depending on what it is). They fall in between first Call and Lexus but offer more comprehensive cover than the cheaper one, so may go with NFU.

  3. So i planned to do MAF + throttle body clean and replace the PCV valve. I ordered a new PCV valve on amayama and its finally here after 3 weeks or so. I am surprised at the price difference between lexus parts direct and amayama. The pcv valve costs £47 at lexus parts direct and it costs only 7usd and i paid 8 usd for shipping so less than £15 on amayama with shipping. Thats a massive difference. https://lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/product/lexus-is-phase-3-pcv-valve/ https://www.amayama.com/en/part/toyota/1220436040 Anyway. Hopefully il find the time soon and make a DIY guide on it.

  4. My repaired run flat is still going strong 18 months later so I wouldn't be concerned, and it definitely shouldn't be the reason for you to change them soon.

  5. Let's see what we have here. Would be nice to build a thread of modified 2IS's in the UK for new owners to see and maybe learn from what we done to them. Here's a few pics of 3 of mine of the last few years.

  6. I replaced the arms on my IS and its very easy to DIY. They're only held in place by a single nut, 14mm or thereabouts. It'll be covered by a cap that you have to pry off. Order the new ones from Amayama. They'll cost 25% of a UK dealer price.

  8. I paid around £600 for the bumper, painted and fitted it myself. Installation process is the same on all years.

  9. Apology not read the full thread. My friend had a crank no start condition in a Toyota Auris petrol, recently turned out to be the crankshaft sensor. Have you tried replacement?

  10. Given the previous radiator replacement and its location in respect to the crank pulley I would take a look at the CPS wiring loom and connector to the main loom as this may have been disturbed. Unless the ECU receives a signal from the CPS the injectors will not fire.

  12. I Hear Of This problem Coming up Time and Time Again..Its Best to get The dealership to supply and fit The TPMS Sensor AND you can also Negotiate the tyre Price as well so they do the lot..In The long run i know its a bit Dearer..But Oh The Hassle and Pure Frustration it Saves you Is Uncountable...My Opinion Only Of Course...

  13. I don't drive a Lexus, but basically have the same issues with the same map update, which I wanted to share with you: My Toyota C-HR (GR Sport, first registration 9/2022) uses the same multimedia unit "Toyota SMART CONNECT Plus (EU)" and the same map system. After buying our car in 2022, the map update menu showed an error and asked me to contact my dealer. The dealer installed the latest map update then, but could not solve the problem with the error message in the menu. As I live in Germany, I contacted the Toyota customer service center in Cologne and was told that an update would be released "very soon, probably in March 2023", provided as an OTA installation. This should resolve the error message. As I bought the Premium model, all map updates would also be carried out via the DCM digital communication module. Neither ever showed up. As the multimedia device was still displaying a software version of 2022/2023, I started googling and found the "Map Update for EU (MM21)" at https://www.toyota-tech.eu/. I downloaded the 21GB zip file and unzipped it onto a FAT32 formatted USB stick. I also entered my device ID and service code into the form to receive a licence key, which I then had to enter into the media unit to start the update. The licence key was accepted and I was then asked if I wanted to update the maps. No problems so far and also no hint, I might install a wrong software version. The upload took about 30 minutes and after driving for 25 minutes, I waited for the entire download to complete. The car was in READY-Mode the whole time. After the upload I got exactly the same error message with the same error code as shown in the first post in this thread. I tried restarting the multimedia unit by pressing the volume down button for several seconds and I also tried resetting the multimedia unit completely, but to no avail. I hesitate to do a hard reset by disconnecting the 12 volt battery but also believe, this wouldn't remove data from a non-volatile memory. The built-in navigation system has been unusable since then. My dealer has given me an appointment for 27 May to "re-upload the map material". Keep your fingers crossed.

  15. About to do another long trip so put fuel in for the first time. Exactly 30 litres after a very slight fill after initial cut out to round it off. 641 miles to date. App says 414.5 miles on EV but unfortunately I don’t know how much of that is pure EV and how much is from normal hybrid mode once EV battery dropped to 30% So I make it 97mpg in petrol terms ignoring cost of electricitY with pure ICE economy just over 34 mpg If I convert cost of electric at 19.5p kw/h (still on an old fixed tariff so can’t change yet) at the current indicated rate of 3m kw/h I make it 65mpg equivalent overall That doesn’t account for some of the miles being electric from normal hybrid generated EV power rather than plug in. So the actual converted mpg should be a little better. I don’t have the Podpoint installed yet due to a loop supply issue so I can’t keep an accurate record of how many kw I’ve charged from the mains.

  17. Yeah, but he checked the plugs, if that was the case the spark plugs would be wet from fuel.

  18. If prior to your issue you started your car for a very short time (e.g. engine ran for around 30s), the engine could be flooded - this happened to me too. Start it over 4-5 times with your accelerator at the floor so it clears the unburnt petrol.

  19. Sounds a bit like your injectors are not firing. If they were you should have gas in the cylinders by now, and at least get a few pops or bangs. Cheers...

  20. Only commenting on the car itself.. the MOT History looks okay, a couple of failures for headlight alignment and a blown tyre. Nothing standout warning signs. Mileage looks okay, it;s clearly been a daily driver with reasonable jumps between MOTs. The garage though, thats a different matter. Unlikely you would get any kind of warranty worth the paper it is written on, even small claims and the law on your side won't help get your money back if it turs out to be a lemon. Personally, I'd keep looking (and black cars are a swine to keep looking good, worse colour ever, mines black!).

  21. I'd like to get my hands on a Draggy to give mine a look. With all I've done it 'should' be quite impressive. I want to do a before and after with the carbon propshaft too!

  22. Yes Paul, I have just tried Lexus Insurance, but they have declined to quote! I have had quotes from One Call, there underwriter is Covea, but again they lay of the risk across several insurers. Thanks for you info re Tesco, that was my fear from the reviews, and those on Which, so I will bite the bullet and go with NFU, as it’s more than I have ever paid for insurance in my life, but it does give peace of mind, and hopefully the prices may ease next year if Lexus comes up with this anticipated software fix, and the mark stops getting nicked. I suspect your Lexus insurance quote may be better due to you location as well, that said I have maximum NCB, and no conviction history, strange time we live in. The only conciliation is that my fully comp Mazda MX5 insurance was £161 this year. You win some, you lose some 🥴

  23. Damn, well it only took seven freaking years, but those H&R springs that were the subject of this quote from Post #1, are finally, finally on the car! The estimate of lowering by just 10mm was a bit pessimistic, with the ride height now being approx 15-20mm lower than it was. The springs have also been paired up with a new set of dampers - Bilstein B6s. The journey to obtaining a set of these was actually quite drawn-out and frustrating. I originally ordered a set in 2022, but due to stock shortages and supply chain issues on Bilstein's end, I got fed-up waiting and received a refund. I then flirted with the idea of getting a set of coilovers instead from BC Racing, but couldn't help notice that they seem to have spiked in price quite dramatically during the past couple of years. What used to be a tempting £650-700 option, was now something like £900+. This, coupled with the fact that I had never owned a car with coilovers before, put me off, so I stuck with the idea of sourcing some dampers...eventually. Fast-forward to a few months ago and I noticed that the Bilsteins were now readily available again, so I grabbed a set whilst I could. As well as the shocks and springs, I also bought a pair of RCF lower control arm bushes. This is a popular upgrade, and at less than £80 it would've been rude not to follow the herd. It turned out to be a worthwhile spend, as the OEM bushings had started to split. Albeit, only slightly. I dare say they would've maybe gotten through another MOT. The new shock/spring combo seems great so far. The ride quality has actually improved as the old shocks had definitely seen better days. They weren't leaking or anything, but the ride had become a bit bouncy and uneven of late. Now, the car feels extremely planted and composed again. Turn-in and steering feel is better too. Probably due to the new LCA bushes, although it's difficult to quantity their effect since everything was replaced at the same time. Overall, I'm very happy with how things turned out. The drop from the springs is just about perfect and after about a week or so, I am yet to experience any issues such as rubbing. The car feels very nice to drive as is, but I'll get an alignment booked to make sure nothing is untoward. To finish up, here's a picture that was taken today. 🙂

  26. hello. I just post it for the future, maybe my post will find someone in few years and be helpful. I had a leak above the tank. I used metarials posted in this topic (find my answer) and it cost me 45$. In Poland services wanted 2500USD from me for replacing this hose. It's sick. After recharge gas, my AC still didn't work. AC compressor didn't start at all. The next issue ( I didn't know that is the issue, because I bought this car like 2months ago) was that on the consuption computer I could see electric motors, wheels, engine but I haven't seen arrows which shows where the power/energy goes at the moment - power flow. it showed B1473 and B1498 fault codes!!! I found that one hybrid plug wasn't connected properly (in my case it wasn't connected at all). The plug I am talking is on the different side of car than the compressor AC is. I dont have any photo unfortunately, but it's very easy to see that. If you are under the car you need to remove the first cover which is under radiators and front of the engine. after that, you will immediately see on the passenger side (my car is LHD) big orange plug, at it wasn't connected in my scenario. I connected the plug, AC comes back immediately, working perfect, and I can see power/energy flow going to/from wheels.

  27. I think Lexus does recommend square set-up for AWD, but I have not heard of any issues (anything being damaged on IS250 AWD), note that this is UK forum, so there is very little knowledge about AWD cars as we simply didn't get that option in UK. I happened to own US imported AWD for short while many years ago, mine had square set-up, but also only know quite little about them from US forums at the time. So it could be summarised - in conclusion the wheels will fit fine, it is not recommended to have staggered set-up for AWD, but it doesn't seem like AWD system in IS is fragile or very picky (like Subaru for example, would just explode if you put wrong wheels on it).

  28. Yes, there's definitely a manual lever for door opening. It begs the question "why add a button on the inside and not just have egress via the conventional lever?". Unnecessary "farkles". Personally, and it is a personal thing, I think that interior quality compared with the solidity of early marques, is dropping off and I don't like the reliance on touch screens and electronic tech for the sake of it. The best compromise imho of functionality and tech was possibly the RX4 which also suffers with a fewer less annoying rattles than the previous generation. Even better, my older V6 GS300 had a plethora of buttons, all within easy reach, all well marked and still working perfectly after 10 years abuse. Interior build was also exemplary, more Bentley-like with lovely quality touches.

  32. It's obvious innit. Third party is always higher risk thus more expensive. After the first party you are at risk when driving, after the second party you are very much at risk but third party = downright dangerous. Simples.

  33. 1s 8p a pint - We could go to the railwaymens club or the local and get a pint of bitter for 1s 6p. Mild was 1s 4p. We could get 7 pints from our 10s a week pocket money. That's a give away - I was only 15 at the time! I don't even know how much a pint is in a local pub nowadays; a) Can't afford it, b) Don't want to go, c) People don't drink and drive nowadays, d) The locals are full of deadlegs/scruffs/chavs/idiots/nutters/ loud people with no manners.... need I go on or I am being too judgmental? 35. Word of advice. Do not lock your car keys in the boot whilst on holiday! 90 minutes later I was on my way again after breakdown man opened car door by squeezing metal rod thru door window. Emergency boot release is under armrest glovebox btw. Embarrassment mostly gone now!
