  2. Hey guys, well progress well and truly came to a halt!!! In 4 weeks me and the wife have had 3 birthdays, 2 weddings and a concert to go too!!!! 2 of the birthdays was mine and the wife's. So after last time i ordered new crank main bearings from toyota. I didnt replace all 7 journals just 5 that had very slight marks on them. Tbh i could have got away with re-using them but as im at this point i thought sod it just replace them. The other 2 journal bearings was completly unmarked. Also going to re-use the thrust washers as these was also unmarked and well withing spec when measured, 0.06mm measured and spec is 0.020-0.220mm. Finally done a little bit more today, got the block surfaces cleaned up for the head and sump, all silicone and oil removed. Also checked the block with a straight edge from work following the toyota manual and again all in spec, maximum allowed 0.07mm. The largest i measured 0.05mm at a push at 1 small part. Also cleaned up the sump pans, baffle and pick up pipe at work in the parts washer Also whilst all the madness of the last couple of weeks was going on i had some lovely parts turn up!! Got me pretty excited for getting this thing back together, santa really had come early! I had said in an earlier post i had orderd pistons and rods and arp studs. The wiseco pistons, arp head and main studs i did order but held back on the rods as i was having 2nd thoughts on the crowers. Heres the pistons and arp studs.......... ordered from garage whifbitz. A while back i also ordered my exhaust manifold which has also now turned up. This is a suprastore twin scroll manifold for the 2jz-ge with external wastegate port with a 44mm vband flange welded on.... looks absolute quality!! As we all know black friday has been and gone and could not resist getting a good deal, i looked absolutly everywhere for the best deal on the parts i wanted! I had now made a decision on the rods, i wanted manley H-tuff rods which are capable of 1000whp, so way more than what i want (at the moment) and sticking to the over engineered approach which toyota have always seemed to have took! I gave real street performance in america an email about the parts i wanted and some info on what parts would be best for my application, a guy called Robert Del Angel replied almost instantly which made me almost fall off my chair! Very informative and helped me out no end with quick fire emails back. On black friday night at 8:30pm our time i ordered manley H-tuff rods with arp 2000 bolts, brian crower stage 2 cams and brian crower valve springs with titanium retainers for a fantastic price matched by no one! By monday night 5:30pm our time they arrived!!!! Ordered from across the pond and arrived in 3days, 2 of which was the weekend!!! Faster than probably most uk companies could deliver not to mention cheaper than any uk company i looked at and i paid no extra for express delivery!!! I have never ever experienced customer service like this before, i emailed Robert back telling him that i had got the parts and even he was a little suprised, i also let him know how chuffed i was with his service! If only every company opperated this way. Here they are .... And the new rods next to the old 1s ...... huge!! Back to todays efforts i could now get the crank back in and new bearings with ARP main studs. I picked these up from toyota last week.... Got the studs fitted, bearings in and lucas engine lube applied..... Crankshaft then installed and main caps torqued down to 60ft lbs using the ARP lube... Thats it for now guys, hope you have enjoyed the update

  4. I think your missing the fact the person is trying 'sell' it so they are using 'sales patter'...........do you think he would be better just saying ""16 year old V8 gas guzzler, comfortable car""....???

  5. That's my favourite colour for the RCF. Don't like those wheels though...

  6. According to DVLA just under 200 RCF’s in Uk 164 RCF & 24 Carbons on average since release Lexus have sold about 6 a month. I have 887 photographs of different European RcF’s most countries are on the list between 2015-2017, this does not include Russia where there are a fair number of vehicles, I’m speculating but I believe it to be dozens as the plates are usually pixelated out, and I keep seeing the same cars. 13. Having done this job myself I can personally vouch it is an absolute nightmare taking around 8 hours of back breaking effort. The problem is the solenoid and the contacts wearing out giving intermittent starting. The pictures show the components involved and the wear due to electrical arcing.

  20. Scudney : I bought a set of afertmarket alloys shod with winter tyres when I bought my 2nd hand IS 6 years ago. By discarding the polystyrene packing, toolkit etc, there was room for the normal sized wheel/tyre which is what I now keep there for the spare. It also needed a bigger cover (floor to the central boot area) to the wider area, which I made up from black felt stapled to plywood cut to size with a jigsaw. Altogether, it looks much like the original boot floor so I was pleased. CAUTION : My car is a 2008 base model, the tyres are 205.55.16, so thinner than yours. However there is still about 1 inch between the top of the normal wheel and the underside of the new base to the boot, so should accommodate a 225 width tyre. I cannot be sure of any other differences between the cars. Good luck. Geoffish

  22. This an actual Rcf space saver set up, it is known in the states as the 'Guam ' kit as in that location a space saver is required as it is in some Gulf states where even the Lfa was required to have it, I've e-mailed the appropriate dealer parts department for part numbers and prices which no doubt will be 'prohibitively expensive, but once you get part numbers you can play around on eBay, who knows worth a try AND apparently it fits the Gsf................. 23. but no Ls400 is " collectable " and methinks it might be another decade or so , if ever, it does become so ! " concours " is a bit irrelevant with our cars .... now, if it was an old Bentley and concours ........... and forever breaking down and on every outing thinking it might need a transporter recovery ................ then that sure is " collectable " Let's not get ahead of ourselves guys Malc

  27. I didn't say that.... actually I kind of agree. You asked what is wrong with Audi.... and my answer is - nothing, I just don't like their cars... I appreciate that uniqueness of the car adds to the charm and that is the only reason why Jaguar and Lexus exists in UK - to give alternative over German cars. However, at the same time I appreciate the car the way it is - if one car is going to be exceptionally better than others I don't care what badge it is on the car e.g. I like BMW M3 E92... I think it is great car and I don't care what badge is on it. To the topic - I believe that BMW M4 is better car on the track, but exactly at the same time RC-F is better car overall in my opinion. BMW M4 does everything exactly right and with German efficiency - good if you are team racing driver. But if you are a human being who want to enjoy some driving experience and who not necessarily have skill or need to be on the closed track everyday... I believe M4 is rather bland (and most Audis), where RC-F has more character and more fun without a need for closed track and high speeds.

  28. What size they are 235/45.. 17 or 18? if 17 I might be interested (though I doubt Premier ever came with 17s). Otherwise, I think you right - following tire reviews is difficult thing... What I found they usually do reviews on common cars like Golfs and Focuses and there tend to run small tires, it becomes really difficult to choose tires for more luxury car because effectively nobody reviews all the exotic tire sizes like R19/275/35 or something like that. Different size tire can be completely different and so review for say R15/195/55 means completely nothing when you looking for say R18/235/45... because that is completely different tire. As for EU rating - so far I am lucky and all tires I had were spot on (except of maybe Nexen's), however I know that it could be wildly misleading at times... and it is not because they are factually incorrect, but because they are for "comparison" reasons and does not actually reflect realistic driving experience. That is almost like MPG ratings - you can compare two cars like for like and say Fiesta 1.2 diesel with 85MPG is more economical car than BMW 340i with 28MPG, but it doesn't mean either of those cars going to do those MPGs in real life... and finally there is level of cheating in all these ratings. All manufacturers knows what is methodology and can adjust their product to specifically perform good for the test, same for MPGs and same for tire rating, vacuum cleaners ratings or anything else - where methodology is clear, there is always a way to exploit it.

  29. Just checked my handbook and it states "When the outside temperature falls to nearly 0°C (32°F) The dehumidification function may not operate even when is pressed or “A/C” is selected."
    1 point
  30. I believe the a/c chiller shuts off at temps below approx 5c so no dehumidification if it's really cold outside?

  31. Noooooo - white is a horrible colour - silver is so much more classy. At least it was until @Big Rat (and I) bought one. Just to clarify - we didn't buy one together, we each bought one. Make sense?
