  3. Welcome to the forum Malcolm on the matter of aircon I had two of mine that did not work at all when I got them, so I bought them to an aircon specialists in london where I was living he proceeded to kick the tyres off my aircon system then finally begrudgingly offering to try and fix my system for £1800 and even then it might cost more! Now having just spent £1600 on the car I thanked him for his kind offer and left and just googled the pants off car aircon systems and it seems that it is not rocket science I could not break it anymore than it was broken so I bought a condenser from US ebay for £80 including delivery with a lifetime warranty swapped mine over an easy job bought some gas from halfords in a car and squirted it in the car.... and DADA working aircon so don't look past the fact you can do it yourself. I am no mechanic good luck let us know how you get on

  4. Welcome to the LOC. I would say the sat nav is hardly worth the effort. Even with the latest disc (and I don't think it's that late) you still can't put in post codes. You can download the manual, I may still have the link somewhere. The AC problem may be due to the rear pipes being corroded, a common enough problem. If so you can cap the rear off or replace the pipes, the latter being a big job though needing fuel tank removal.

  5. Hi John Just wanted to update you.I have managed to change the 140amp fuse along with 6 other fuses and replaced the battery and my beloved RX is now running again. The 140amp was a nightmare to replace. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply it was really helpful. My wife is also happy as it means she gets her NX back. Wishing you a Happy and healthy New Year. Regards Andy

  6. Probably not absolutely necessary but its kind of a fun project of mine. I wrote the software for the microcontroller, it logs the position, speed etc to a server and I can calculate journey distances from the data. I can text the car and it replies with a google maps link for where it is - handy on holiday if you forget where you parked. When I was commuting I used the tracker data to completely automate my mileage expenses. It’s been handy for identifying sketchy garages too - like one that told me they’d test-driven the car but I could see from the tracker logs that it hadn’t moved all day. Not sure about steering locks, aren’t they just as easy to break as any other lock?

  7. Hi guys. Well I've been looking at one of these motors for a coùple of weeks now and made the leap yesterday. 2004 (March) model with a few scrapes (understandable after 14 years). 120k miles and no working AirCon so I know it is going to cost me to get that sorted lol. BUT it had a Polish LPG system fitted (no lubrication though) only 1k miles ago which seems to be fine so far. First things first, a lube system, then I want to get the AC sorted. So if anyone has a handbook for the Navi going begging it would be appreciated and also a couple of pointers ? 1 - Up to date map disk which works with TMC too 2 - Anyone prepared to recommend an independant Lexus guy for service etc in the North West (Warrington) area ? 3 - is there a decent ebay (Or otherwise) code reader / programmer available for these cars ? 4 - Anyone got a manual for the satnav going cheap ? LOL Thanks for letting me join. I hope I didn't break any rules here ? Hoping to get the benefit of the long term experienced Lexus owners and modders on here. I have just scrapped my 3.2 Vx Vectra Gsi having retrofitted EVERYTHING possible to it but the electronics finally killed 3x ECM modules so I am "starting over" with Lexus lol Thanks for having me guys Woody

  9. I found a Japanese car specialist that was recommended by a taxi driver I know, apparently he knows all about Toyota and Lexus cars so I'm going to book it in with him, I could do it myself but then I'll have difficulty proving that it was actually serviced at least this way I get an invoice to go with the other car stuff, he said he uses Lexus parts so I expect it'll be Toyota oil and filter.

  13. Yes and no. The Stoplock Pro Elite that I've got took more than five minutes to defeat in various reviews and tests with hammers, chisels and saws. However, its real benefit is in the deterrent. It's not pretty having this big, bright yellow thing stuck on your steering wheel but anybody seeing it should, hopefully, think "why bother with the hassle - I'll just go for another one instead". As for your tracker, I can see the attraction of it being a fun project and I like the sound of it, but if you're going to modify it to only come on with the ignition then you'll lose half of its functionality anyway.

  14. i had cross climates on my last IS ,you cant compare them to the yokohamas the cross climates are just better in every way quietness being the main factor

  15. PCS on the pre-facelift models just uses radar behind the front grille. I believe that camera is part of the automatic high beam system for the headlights. If you have Lane Departure Alert, Road Sign Assist etc on the facelift models then you will have a camera mounted in that position but it will look more like the Volvo picture and PCS also uses it.

  16. I switched from the standard Yokohamas to the cross climates on my NX some months ago and found them much quieter. The ride is also more compliant, and the road holding much better. Sent from my LG-H930 using Tapatalk

  17. Yes, there is "tilt" position , and it's possible to stop sunroof partially open, the resonance occurs when fully open (that's easier to operate giving as single command to switch).

  18. Rightly or wrongly, I tend to think that someone who has all four tyres matching (as long as they are a well-known and respected brand of course) is more likely to have looked after the car more than someone who has mixed tyres.

  19. Ok, I see what you mean. I fully understand how mixing tyres with different grip performance is a potential disaster when driving at the limits of adhesion. For example, following a puncture, if one tyre is replaced, there might be better cornering grip in one direction than the other. But for most drivers, this would be ok, if the remaining tyre on that axle does not have wildly different performance to the new one. In general, though, I feel it is fine to replace tyres in pairs across an axle. As long as grip is similar on both ends of an axle, grip performance shouldn't be unpredictable, nor cause problems for most drivers. Normally, we all try to drive well within the combined limits of our vehicles and our own skill (don't we?), so that we have something in reserve when unexpected circumstances occur. But those who drive closer to the limits than most (eg police, enthusiastic drivers, etc....) should pay more attention to their tyres. I mistakenly thought that you were linking mixed tyres with stepped wear pattern and or road excessive road noise.

  20. I'd enter the diagnostics screen and see if any errors are displayed - the radio unit may not be detected by the system. Once in there also go to 'Display Check' menu and then select 'Panel Switch Check' to make sure all the buttons are working correctly (e.g. the FM and AM buttons).

  21. Is that a telegraph pole you've managed to knock down? If so that's one strong car I've seen a lot worse hope your ok that could have been a lot worse.

  22. Oh no! Glad you’re ok. The side damage looks pretty bad, it’s clearly taken a massive whack from a post(?) near the rear which looks like it’ll have caused extensive problems to the rear axle etc. I think a fix may be beyond quite a few garages, I’d be tempted to take what I can get and move on from it. If you’ve got the time though, knowing how expensive/rare parts can be, maybe you could punt the undamaged bits on?

  23. Many dealers use Shell or Castrol oils but that is a franchise thing rather than a recommendation from Lexus GB. Mobil is a good brand, can't go wrong there. Many of Toyota's badged oils are made by them, although to Toyota's spec and not standard - e.g. Toyota 0W-20 is different (better) compared to Mobil 1 0W-20.

  24. So carrying on with the fuel system stuff i gave the tank a good clean off as it was out and it came up pretty well! I will be giving that heat shield a spray too once its all back in. Then pulled the hanger out and stripped it down to have a look at what will need cutting and chopping to make it work. Took a quick snap to compare the walbro 450lph and the standard pump! Next up was to mark up and drill the holes in the top of the hanger for the bulkhead fittings. The return line then had to be hooked up to the SARD jet pump killer, allowing me to use the full tank capacity pulling fuel from the other side. This replaces the stock syphon jet. The take off pipe facing down on the left it what connects to the rubber hose in the tank to pull the fuel. You can also see in this pic that the pump is fitted too. This had to be removed again and i had to trim the plastic at the bottom of the hole to move the pump up higher, when refitting the hanger it was sitting too high not allowing the retainer to go back on. I then had to cut the steel retaining plate that holds the hanger down the accomodate the new fittings. I found this very tricky and its a little rough around the edges, a bit of paint and its looking alot better. Dont know why i stressed about it though because its under the back seats 😂. Still more to do on the pump, i have got to get some fuel resistant conmectors and covers for the pump plug wires. Once thats done i can have a good look at the tank breather system and mock up the lines to the tank.
