  2. Just collected my new RC300h, now in Azure Blue, replacing my Sonic Red 2016 model. First impressions are, it's noticeably quieter. There is much less 'milk-float' whine on deceleration. The car will accelerate much longer on electric, the car switching to battery power more readily in general driving. The Mark Levinson sounds much fuller than the standard audio in the 2016 model, which wasn't poor in any respect. The Sat Nav has been improved no end, much easier to set routes etc.. Filled the tank with V-Power and looking forward to exploring the suspension and steering upgrades

  3. What!!!!! The accessories circuits are normal 12v, if they are trying to wire it into the hybrid circuit or believe that the car is rated at 200+volts then I would ask them to step away from their tools and stop calling themselves fitters. My nextbase is hardwired into my 300h with no issue at all Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. Yay I fixed it. You were both spot on. The O/S fan was really stiff and noisy. I took the fan off and removed the motor. The motor comes apart really easily and it was just absolutely full of the carbon dust. I washed it out with electrical cleaner and a blow of air and it spun free. The brushes are about half worn but the armature looks to be very tired. There was a secondary issue in that the rear brass bush/bearing was very worn at the bottom. This must be because the fans just spin on tickover whilst the A/C is on and so the bush doesn’t wear evenly. That’s my theory anyway. I turned the bush 180* in it’s housing and blobbed a bit of silicone grease in to it. It now runs beautifully and puts the N/S fan to shame. I’ll do that one another day. Thanks Guys, Best forum ever. Bod

  6. hello all, Just wanted to share that I bought my first IS300h F Sport after a long debate with the Mrs if we should keep the RX450h. I've had plenty of Lexus's in the past and after going through all/majority of German brands, I'm sticking to Lexus. I've had numerous IS200 Sports, a IS220d Sport, a couple of IS-F's, GS300h F Sport, still got the RX (for now) and now my first IS300h F Sport.... and I really like it. not as spacious as the RX or GS obviously, but a very nice place to be in, the seats really wrap around you I must say and the chunky steering I've missed, I love the DRL's.

  7. Absolute rubbish! All dashcams work on 5V so you need either a cigarette lighter USB adapter or for a better and permanent job you need a hardwire kit that wires into the fusebox - either way, it takes the car's 12V supply and brings it down to 5V for the camera. This is nothing whatsoever to do with the hybrid side of things so please rest assured that the Nextbase 422 will happily work in your CT200h. Above all, please promise that you will NEVER go back to those fitters and NEVER use them again for anything!

  9. @Linas.P @bobmc Thank you both for suggestions, turns out oil was coming from the shock absorber - got it replaced (£275 inc. labour, ouch). Hoping the other one doesn't go. Topped up engine oil and will monitor the level to make sure nothing wrong going on there.

  14. So: 1. Wife locked car using key fob lock button. 2. Now when you unlock using the physical key the alarm goes off. If so, that is correct behaviour. The alarm is set by using the key fob lock button and deactivated using the unlock button. You need to press the unlock button on the key fob. I never use the fob to lock the car, only unlock it, as I don't want to set the alarm. Old alarms are bad news, even Toyota OEM. The immobiliser is enough security IMO. Starting the engine won't make it stop as the engine immobiliser function is separate from the alarm and is deactivated by the RFID chip in the key.

  18. TO be honest mine is in great shape now, had an owner that wasn’t overly bothered about fixing stuff but would only go to main dealer and not try to fix stuff himself. Most of the issues I have had are common but once fixed, and old cars so scrap yards generally have a few bits lying around, or parts brand new non Lexus parts like brakes are super cheap. i have the 5 speed version and yes you put it in sport mode and hit the throttle and it takes a while to wind up, then it pauses from 1st to 2nd and then it off like a rocket, the 6 speed is more fluid, both simular 0-62 and I’m sure the original engine had a few more horses, It’s a luxury cruiser so I suppose that’s the way they designed it for the original model. Mine has 140k and starts and drives like new. I think if you buy a car this old and the owner before hasn’t been on the ball yr need to spend a bit to get all fluids etc changed so you know it’s in good nick. Just go buy one they are amazing and like most Lexus, loyal.

  19. Hi Connor, are you the guy who asked for the Vin the other day? It is my car and it is absolutely perfect. The gearbox has been fully reconditioned by Mackies in Glasgow and it drives perfectly. I have a photo from them of the gearbox in shrink wrap, sitting on a pallet with the contaminated clutch pack sitting on top. It has also just had the water pump replaced and the sump seal redone. It is a “third car”, which I have had for a year. It follows a Soarer a pre-facelift SC430 and a facelift SC430, each of which I kept for a year and each of which was spot on when I sold it. I was drawn into the Lexus thing by the guys on Lexusworld and have been carried along by their enthusiasm. I’ve really enjoyed each of those cars but they have been toys to enjoy for a while and then move on. I don’t mind if that hobby costs me a few quid - many hobbies do - and I have no reason to sell someone a duff car. I’m sorry you were fobbed off. I guess after they sold it to me, they were at the stage where they had to bite the bullet and fix the car. Whoever buys this will get an immaculate car with no problems or niggles at all.

  24. Trying not to derail this thread, but thought I’d confirm that whilst I can’t do the Simply Japanese weekend, I have had the RCF accepted into the Beaulieu SuperCar weekend the following week. (The first Lexus accepted into this years event). So looks like there will examples of our cars at both events If anyone else on here attends or displays at the Supercar weekend look us up. Odds are we will be with the noisy TVR group in the corner of the site! I managed to flat spot the tyres on my TVR doing demo runs last year. Not sure if we will be asked again this year. 😂 I haven’t discussed doing demo runs in the RCF with them as yet. I’m not sure that, even with the Quicksilver fitted, it’s got the noise or the acceleration to be a crowd pleaser? That said last years event included a few cars with similar performance doing demonstrations, so who knows? (And it does look stunning). So, just in case, I’d better look up how to turn all that traction stuff off Then Mash the throttle with right foot as releasing left foot from brake pedal.......and repeat 😇 J

  25. James, the short answer is 'no'. Vehicles typically have 2 cooling fans dedicated to different duties mounted behind (or in front) the radiators at the front of the engine bay. One fan is triggered by the engine temperature and the other is controlled by the AC. The AC fan assists with pulling air through the condensing radiator and it will also pull additional cooling air through the engine radiator. Similarly the engine fan will primarily pull air through the engine coolant radiator but will also pull air through the AC radiator. These big fans share duties to some extent as they are positioned behind a radiator sandwich of engine radiator, AC condenser and in some cases also an engine oil cooler and maybe even a gearbox radiator. If the AC is off then one of the radiator fans will not operate. These fans can often be wired by the manufacturer to keep running for a few minutes after shutting the vehicle off. So don't be alarmed if one keeps running whilst you are walking away.

  27. I can tell you stories. How about them telling a good friend of mine that they can "Force a regen" of his DPF on his Kia Sportage and then let him watch aghast whilst they rev his derv engine to it's rev limiter for 2 minutes? You cannot "Force" a regen by doing that the car has to be in gear and rolling.. Any mechanic knows this. Halfords didn't. As to their cost base? Well they charged him £85 for that "service". I told him to bring it round, I'll rev the nuts off it for two minutes for half that price. What about the Halfords MOT guy I caught with a stanley blade cutting a ball joint rubber so they could fail the car? On camera too. Ministry loved that one. How about the Halfords "technician" who literally smashed the headlight out of a Merc to change a side light bulb? Happened. Or the one who didn't know where the port was for filling the a/c on a Jaguar S type. I thought I'd give them a try... And it's in a manual, it's even on the internet. These are just the things I know of, and know the source of so I trust that source. On a different note. I went in and asked a so called "expert" what the impedance of some speakers they had on the rack was. He didn't even know what impedance means. Would you let someone like that take your dashboard apart? Because what that tells me is that they are perfectly happy to connect parts that don't actually have the same load parameters of each other. I'm not a perfectionist, but I do believe if you know a guy who does nothing but A/C systems all day I'd sooner take his advice than listen to someone who has done a 4 hour course including fag breaks on the same subject. And if they do manage to cook your A/C compressor, what proof do you have as to what oil they injected? None at all my friend. They dont know what they are doing else they would have known the Hybrid uses a different a/c lube oil. I didn't know that either but I don't work on many cars these days. But I do know a trained technician wouldn't be seen dead working for them, or that tyre company everyone loves. They aren't "back street" in that sense.

  28. Yes, as Sheamus says, just use baby wipes or similar to get rid of the coating that's there. The end result might be a screen that's more reflective, but that hasn't bothered me in practice.

  29. I used a baby wipe or 2 to remove scratched film completely and permanently. Looks fine without it.

  30. Had a paintless dent repair (PDR) chap visit us at home today and he's has done a great job. MrsF's VW had 3 dings (top of the front wing, side of a rear arch and flat of the tail gate) and he'd fixed one well before I managed to make him a cuppa! My GS had a dink towards the front corner of the bonnet, which he eased back into shape. It's alloy which took him a little bit longer. PDR is a fascinating process which I could watch all day and his 20yrs+ experience showed. For anyone in the midlands that's interested I can highly recommend Adey / Dents First, details at; http://www.dentsfirst.co.uk/ I heard of him via my local detail guru who makes use of his services. I have no affiliation with either company and mention it purely to benefit anyone who's car has some daily driver dings. I'll leave him to price up each job but I can say that he was very reasonable. I apologise for the lack of pic's but these dents were really difficult to capture!

  31. Sorry that you seem to have had a bad experience, but to redress the balance a little, I would say that my experience of Lexus Chester has been pretty well the opposite to yours. I have now bought 6 cars from Chester and always used then for servicing/repairs (not many of them needed!) and even tyres, as they stock compatible replacements at reasonable prices. I can recount several examples of how they have changed items without charging me and even removed parts from new cars because I would otherwise have to wait for parts to be ordered. I have turned up at the dealer on a Saturday afternoon with a battery drain problem when they immediately organised a courtesy car and when the problem was finally diagnosed they gave me the car back with 2 bottles of wine to apologise for the time it took to resolve the problem. I find that their technical knowledge of the cars is impressive and their staff are unfailingly courteous and helpful. I have had to challenge them over failings just twice during the past 14 years; one where they damaged a wheel whilst changing a tyre and another when they gave me an inappropriate courtesy car despite knowing that I always require an automatic. On both occasions they accepted immediately that they had failed to live up to their standards and did their best to make things right. They may not be perfect, but they are the best I have ever experienced. Only Honda and then Toyota come anywhere near in maintaining such a consistently high standard. As for BMW and most French cars, you should try them to see just how bad the customer experience can possibly be.

  33. Regarding my original Contact (#38). The battery drain has now been solved and fixed. Armed with the information that the drain was in the circuit with a fuse of 'DC CUT' Lexus Milton Keynes were charged with finding the fault in no more that 2 hours. This they did and found a non-factory fitted box and wiring! At first it was thought to be an 'ELECTRONIC TRACKER' Fitted by the previous owner. However, this was far from the truth. It was an item manufactured by a company called Impact Secure and is usually used on lorries. Via radio the control box can disable the car, start the alarm, lock/unlock the doors and to the boot etc. The driver can have his own transmitter, or it can be done remotely!. To remove this item and all it's associated wiring took all day! Bless them Lexus MK only charged us the 2 hours. (How's that for Customer Service!). There were several fuses, two Ariel's, plugs and a whole heap of wiring. (See attachment enclosed). The drain has dropped from 1.5amps to about 0.29amps. Over Christmas, the car wasn't run for 8 days. When tried it fired up immediately. This problem has been with us for 51/2 years, so I suggest that if you bought your car second hand and you have a similar drain on that circuit, don't rule out the possibility of a non-Lexus addition. Regards Bil Levinson

  34. There are only three differences on the 04-06 models: Sat Nav Multi Media package (MM NAV) rear entertainment system (ICE) Mark Levinsen sound system The first two were options on the SE so you can almost get it to the spec of the SE-L but you cannot get the better stereo

  35. I was trying to fit a nextbase 422 hardwired to my CT200h but almost at the end of the fitting, the fitters told me the power from my hybrid battery was too high for the dash cam. Still looking for another option for rear and front view dash cams as the one from Lexus is just for the front and way too expensive. Please can anyone help? Thank you.
