  1. We're getting our IS 250 done for £345 plus vat at a independent. And here's the PDF for reference. Lexus - Full 100 Service Summary 0518.pdf

  2. My CT passed its MOT yesterday with no advisories. Just on 165K now, I had to tell you all how chuffed I am.

  3. ...then you're missing out!! I bought my IS300h 7 or so months ago, because I wanted a compact, comfortable, RWD car that would be cheaper to run than the older BMW's I've owned previously. With that said, I've never driven the IS in a 'sporty fashion' until today since that's what my motorcycle is for anyway. But today, after having put the bike in for winter storage I figured I'd give it a shot just to see. Unloaded everything I didn't need from the IS and went to a favorite windy bike route. I put the car in sport mode, 'manual' paddle mode, ASC 50% on. Man, was that fun! The IS handled beautifully and there was plenty enough power. Great steering feedback too. I didn't even care if it was silly with the ASC sound or the flappy paddle CVT because it was so much fun 🙂 I was pleasantly surprised and I'm happier than ever with the IS - the car that does both. So just wanted to share and encourage those who want to try as long as it can be done risk free of course 🤪

  4. Come on Linas, get out there and keep looking at your car. Keep driving it too. Eventually you might even like it. Live for the moment and enjoy the car you have chosen to buy. If I had 17k to spend on a 2 door coupe I’d be driving a Cayman. I’d probably pay 14k leaving me 3k towards the increased running costs. It would be older and higher mileage obviously but it would be much more fun and would bring a smile to my face every single time I drove it.

  5. I call that Taxi... Sorry, I just quoted "punchline", but that is the key for me. Generally I actually agree with you, hence my prediction than in future the looks of the car won't matter - they will be cubicles on wheels with focus to make interior better. Shift is already happening - instead of beautiful coupes people choose to get ugly SUVs... However, you will need to wait at least until my generation dies out to fully appreciate this change (and I am from that forever blamed generation called millennials!). So we talking at very least 40+ years from now. I simply do not appreciate the "vehicle as a service" model - no I do not give a **** that I don't need to own it and I could just call it. Again I can call uber nowadays and that is for all intended purposes the same. You can even choose between uber standard (shared), plus or premium which will determine what type of car will pick you up. The only difference is that in future you won't need to talk with driver which may be positive or negative thing depending on your perspective. Car ownership is very special thing for me, where I have to own the car, which looks right inside, outside, with very particular interior colour and very particular tyres and rims, and it has to have particular features and particular audio system and smell in particular way (certainly not to smell the sweat or vomit of the previous user). So this claim that - "you simply simply call it and it appears" does not work for me. Yes it is fine if I can call it an it appears, but it must be my car, not just publicly shared toilet/sink/bed/cubicle "thing".

  6. Decided on the essential service at Lexus Lincoln and received the usual excellent experience. No extras were advised. They even stamped the service book with normal stamp. The only downside during this visit was coffee in cardboard cup and no croissant or pain au chocolat. But I guess I can live with that to not get covid!

  7. I've heard of that sort of behaviour from unscrupulous mechanics of every stripe, but smart showroom managers know it's a false economy. Eventually enough tech-savvy customers blow them off and word gets out about the game that they're playing. A damaged reputation is difficult to shake. I bought my Lexus practically on the strength of the after-sales experience. If Lexus de-prioritises that, or allows their franchised dealers to do so, then it would be a mistake that would cost them at least one customer. Nick

  8. If you go to the Porsche museum in Stuttgart, their very first car was, in fact, one of those early electric cars! Very cool, but as you say - the batteries weren't there. I sometimes wonder if induction charging at traffic lights and in residential roads might be the way forward, but it'd have to be cheap and easy to install. Roads are resurfaced on the regular anyway (although not as regularly as they should be in this country!) so given time you'd have wireless charging for on-street parking and even top-ups when you sat at traffic lights. I wonder how those projects are getting on... Nick

  9. beg to differ.. quick search on autotrader returns countless results 4 series's, E classes, A5's, Infiniti's, Gen 2 IS250's heck even XK jag's all coupe's both petrol or diesel's. 6 and 8 cylinders and all were by passed for a 4 cylinder which was slated by the same person and to make matters worse £17,000.00 was parted away with just for the sheer looks and nothing else not even how it drove .. and that was me thinking my Mrs. was terrible with money. the world never ceases to amaze me 😄

  13. Nice colour. Not limited to this seller but I am extremely wary of all the vehicles for sale at the moment that haven't had MOTs since the middle of 2019 due to the April on deferment.

  15. Discussing with my dealer, several things come up that I did not know and that maybe can make you think His best proposal would be to upgrade to an RC F-Sport or an ES Luxury if I want to maintain the level of options I have now installed on my IS300H, i.e. sunroof, Mark Levinson, triple LED headlights. However, he told me to evaluate the two aspects well because they are totally different cars (and I had come to this too!) Explaining that only the RC could be defined as a "real" Lexus of the generation in which Lexus designed cars with a certain type. of "avant-garde mentality", while the ES is a car that would be nothing more than a "copy" of the Toyota Camry and which, although an excellent car in terms of design and comfort, uses "more obsolete" engineering solutions, citing for example the suspension, the responsiveness of the engine, which would be rather slow and so on. The ES essentially, according to the mechanic, as well as the NX and the UX would be Toyota "disguised" as Lexus. Are we then to the point that Lexus offers a high-end sedan that would be a Camry with a different "dress"? Can anyone tell me if this statement makes sense? In addition to this he told me that I could only buy the RC that he has in the salon, because (as can be seen from the Italian Lexus website) RC and IS can no longer be ordered from today. So we are already in the full title of this topic, how is the situation in the UK, can you still order the iS300H?

  18. Good move. Find a competent garage who are happy to do the work and fit owner-supplied parts (many will refuse to do this) and you should be able to save a considerable amount. I did this recently for my 60K (spark plug) service and even using genuine Lexus parts & oil, saved about £250. It's nice to have a Lexus stamp in the book, but the car is old enough now that it's not worth that kind of additional expense. Sent from my SM-G986B using Tapatalk

  19. Good luck James. Which Dealership is it? My (Chester) Dealership is not part of any Group and gives me a free loan car and free insurance and the car is returned to me in pristine condition. They will also collect mine from home and return it to me free of charge.. All are different.

  20. @paulrnxSo.... lets start with the bad: Engine is absolute disaster! I already explained intricacies with short power band, gearing, noise, but to add to it - fuel consumption is ridiculous! I really genuinely believed that trade-off between 2.5L V6 and 2.0L 4LT was that you loose linearity, sound and response, but you get slightly better fuel economy. Short answer - NO... ok maybe when just cruising on motorway... NO... maybe in some circumstances like in laboratory whilst moving through vacuum - NO! During lock-down I didn't commute to work, so ~90% of 3000 miles were on motorways which were completely empty and I just sat on cruise control all the time. Can you guess what is my MPG? I just going to give figure for comparison - in same conditions IS250 would have done 38-44MPG. As well I would add that RC-F MPG is literally better on average. Indicator switches/stalks (as well affects IS mk3 and GS mk4). Not much to say there - Lexus tried, failed and gone back to proper indicators. I may look into retrofitting them, but honestly I neither plan to keep the car long enough, nor I love it enough to do it. Cruise control - it is the same "analog" system Lexus/Toyota fitted in their cars probably since 1998. It was sort of acceptable in my IS250 (but it was 2008 car, not 2016). What is the problem with the system? Basically on most cruise controls, 1 click goes up by 1miles (sometimes 5), double-clicks goes to next round number and if you hold it then it will go up/down until you release it. RC (and older Lexus) does not have "rounding" but, in theory small adjustments should work (they worked on my IS250), but on RC they don't work - when you click once sometimes speed does not change at all, sometimes it changes by 2 or 3 or even 5 miles. Secondly, RC200t does not stick to the set speed - I mean single purpose of cruise control is to keep constant speed and it fails to do it! Just last week I was driving through roadworks with 50MPH limit and it was embarrassing, car at times would get as slow as 46MPH (I set it to 52!) and on the other times it would approach 56MPH (56 actually = 50). I suspect this again all to do with engine and gearbox, on the incline car simply does not have enough power to keep the speed and starts slowing down, then it changes the gear down starts accelerating and the blows past the set-speed. The speed varied on IS250 as well, but it would vary by 1 mile at most - not 6! Either way, this should not be the case. Just to *****-me off even further I got 2017 NX as loaner and cruise control works perfectly - has 1 mile adjustments, double-click to next limit and keeps the speed perfectly (the stalk looks the same). I am thinking maybe I need to ask Lexus to check it, maybe it is faulty? Boot closing - it really seems to me like Lexus could have included electronic closing at this price point. It is not helped by the fact that struts are so potent I have to slam the boot very hard to close it. IS250 was not perfect, but it would simply unlatch when opened and was balanced well enough that you can open it with small finger, for closing - it would as well close with very little force and little press would latch it locked. --------- Actually, I didn't much new that surprised me in a good way (except 1), but general list is below: It looks stunning It has all options which were available on this car It is very rare and has presence above it's class (~BMW 4-Series) = to 6-Series BMW (even approaching 8-series), MB E-Class... people simply don't know what it is and what to think about it. If I park it next to £100k BMW 8 most people would not be able to tell which cars is "cool" or even more expensive... Certainly, nobody would guess it costed less than £20k. It is unusual/original - people don't know if the car is slow or if it is fast (I am sure they assume it is very fast). Point is - it attracts a lot of positive attention. It has most of conveniences I need in the car, phone connects automatically, music starts playing automatically, seats/mirrors/steering wheel adjust automatically, light adjust automatically. So you literally don't need to do anything when getting into the car - keep keys/phone in the pocket, everything is keyless/wireless. What else do you need from Luxury car?! It is very practical with folding rear seats. I never understood why Lexus decided not to give IS folding rear seats, but RC for that reason alone actually turned out to be more practical car. I been in IKEA - it did better than RC. We even fitted 2 bicycles inside (took of wheels and they fitted) and went for hiking/cycling with my girlfriend. I couldn't do that with IS, so was surprised. --------- Few points which are neither here nor there: People complain that rear is cramped, leg-room/headroom is bad. Just reality of having coupe, my answer is: "this is not a taxi!"😁 I still use my phone as navigation, Lexus sat-nav and voice commands are next to useless, but hey! I knew it before buying. Android auto would be perfect thought - could be retrofitted for full Android infotainment system, but car just isn't worth £800 investment. The driver seat failed and there is story with brakes, but I don't hold it against the car or the brand - kind of maintenance thing. --------- In summary, what this car is missing to be perfect (and I mean not "better", but perfect): Different engine - 450h or 350 would be perfect, better power, better fuel economy, more responsive, better sounding... 200t has no redeeming features in comparison. Not much else to say here. Equipment in line with same model year SUVs, if they simply take tech they have in NX of same year it would be great car. I still don't understand why same priced and same year NX is just so much better equipped and up-to date?! Why NX has new and perfectly working cruise control, where RC does not. NX gets electronic boot closing, 360 degree camera, electronic/automatic parking brake/button, wireless charging for phone, glass roof - it even has proper indicator stalk! I guess this is all because RC was based on IS tech, but still one would not expect such discrepancy within the same brand. P.S. @royoftherovers - sorry mate, this one had to be long 😅

  21. Just to clarify, do you mean high beam assist or adaptive high beam? The former simply changes from high beam to dip and back depending on traffic and street lighting, the latter will maintain high beam but blank areas to avoid dazzling other vehicles, the beam spread changing dynamically but generally appearing to be on high all the time

  23. I’ve been feeling for a while that service has deteriorated from Lexus dealers and that sales are more important. I understand why sales are important but I always felt that customer service was spot on however I’ve recently experienced poor service. My plan is to get my next service at Lexus and then all further ones from an independent. That said, I will also get an annual hybrid health check so will need to do the numbers given you get that free with Lexus services. Guess I could stretch the hybrid check to every 18 months or so. Have to find an independent I can trust too - think there might be one in Kiddlington over towards Oxford which isn’t too far away. What concerns me more about my local dealership - Cheltenham - is that there isn’t enough parking space and cars are being finished and then left out on the road having been bumped up the kerb onto the path to leave space in the road for passing HGVs. Trying to con people that their cars are faulty or are about to fail so that they buy a new one is poor form.

  24. Yes - actually I don't think we ever seen AT issue on IS250 on this forum either. By issue I mean mechanical issue requiring to replace parts or whole gearbox. Hard/late/early shifts and error codes are what usually requires fluid change, but that is not a "fault", because after fluid change issues mostly gets solved. And again that is why I said - it becomes question whenever this is economically viable to do, especially if you don't have any issues at the moment.
