  1. Jobs planned for over the Easter weekend: Fit new washer level sensor - purchased from Amayama - maybe the sensor is sticking or something but it's getting a new one. Fit new drivers door check assembly - purchased from Amayama - the arm is split on the body side where it fastens with the pin. Oil and filter change Check all front suspension and make sure all is tight and nothing slightly loose - car has developed some suspension noise over speed bumps. And then the biggy and most important...........................check if the transmission fluid cooler is built into the radiator or is separate and take pictures🙂

  2. Respray rings alarm bells with me, sounds like a rattle can job from Halfords. Bear in mind most dealerships don't have a bodyshop facility. I would be asking for a professional refurbishment of the wheel, also needs to be properly checked for any structural damage.

  6. Thanks Len for your thoughts. I filled in online a form for the Police which for some reason are Kent Police??? Despite this, not had a visit from the local community officers or any other contact just an auto acknowledgment. I didn't see who these yobs are and so can't give any info to the Police. OK its an old Banger and I have always had Cars that have many years on them, Mercs mainly. When my car was "lost in France" during covld I bought a one owner Toyota Corolla but couldn't find the comfort of the Lexus, so sold it and bought a GS300. Both these cars cost me money with new Brake discs, Calipers and tryes and I can't now do this work myself, so knowing the LS (had it ten years) with December MOT, I don't want to replace it. Only 150k on the clock and a joy when we drive the 600 miles to SW France several time a year. Unsure if I'll be able to do this as health has taken a nose dive.

  9. Hi fellas, hope everyone is well, and be most welcomed to this build thread. This is my first Lexus venture and also my first Japanese car, purchased with legit 41K miles on the clock, pretty decently taken care of interior. It seems like the car had a small front end cosmetic damage that was sort of "repaired" by the previous owner. (Head lights and front bumper). Being so the headlights went under some modifications by the previous owner (Stated that he wanted to do something different) so the inner mask or garnish or what ever the name is for that, has been binned. Don't know why, it looks stupid without it. but since everything inside is black it kinda stays blend in at a further distance. This project is meant to be a "Daily" that I can occasionally drift or track it. Kinda defies the purpose of being a "daily" but well here we are. I haven't done much to it just of yet. Car: Lexus IS250 SE (205bhp) from 2006 Beige & Black Interior Factory Tinted windows. Modifications so far: Suspension - Tein Street Advance Adjustable CoilOvers Wheels - Rotiform RSE 18x8.5 & 18x9 with Nankang NS20 225x35R18 & 235x40R18 Exhaust - Dual Stainless Steel CatBack Non Resonated Tail-Lights (Middle Boot Section) Updated to 2010 retaining the outers from 2006/07 Duckbill Boot Spoiler Team Heko Tintedw Wind Deflectors Future Wanted Modifications: 3UZ V8 Engine Swap Enkei RPF1's 18x9 & 18x10 Seibon Carbon IS-F Front wings IS-F SideSkirts Seibon Carbon Vented Bonnet Seibon Carbon boot 6 pot Front Brakes and Floating Rotors. 2 Pot Brembo Rear add on Hydro Calipers. I hope to update soon... and thank you for reading. Best Regards, Igor.

  10. Ive seen a lot of threads on this topic. Ive just purchased a new 12v starter battery for our RX450h 2019 from Lexus. In fact its badged as a Toyota the Part number is L28800-YZZZA for the sum of £121.99 in Vat. You can for this yourself from within the boot. However please note: If the boot is a power boot it will not shut after changing the 12v battery, without manually applying pressure on the boot lid and closing ,manually. The auto open options both on the key and within the car will not operate as you will have an yellow warning on the dash “PKSB” Parking Support Break Function none operational (car symbol with a star above tailgate and a triangular object behind the tailgate). If this happens then close the boot manually with care and take the car for a 2/5min drive and it will clear which will re-enable all the boot operational functions. You may have other personal preferences in the car set-up to also re-set to default however simply re-set as you prefer. Alternatively try to keep a 12v supply to the vehicle while you change the 12v Battery. Ohh additionally i read that Lexus only offer a 1yr warranty, however on purchase i was advised it has 3yrs. Hope this helps.

  11. Is it driving the same is the tracking straight wheel centre as can be on a straight road? If not request for a wheel alignment surely it will have an impact on the steering if its taken a wack causing you other issues long term.

  12. Indeed... I am a little bit confused about the question... although some alloy wheels have special covers, usually they have them on electric cars and newer hybrids for air resistance reasons. @Joolsd - if you looking for plastic wheel covers... then your wheels are not compatible with them, you can't fit plastic covers on alloy wheels, unless they are specifically designed for that.

My first real summer with this and I am beginning to get a bit excited. Idiot remember this is the N West of England not the S West of France. No, still excited at the idea.

  21. That is a part number for the CT200h, some of which have steel wheels. Surely your IS250 has alloy wheels and so does not need wheel covers?

  23. Considering it looks pretty much all original it’s odd the silver below the grille has been painted. To me the asking price seems way over the top for a 2002 with that mileage but I do like the colour a lot. I didn’t pay that much more for my one owner 2004 with only 7600 mile done and had the timing belt, radiator, tyres and battery replaced by Lexus just before I bought it.

  24. Initially I’d wipe it with a damp cloth and let it dry just to establish that the mark is on the dash material and not ‘within’ a previous surface product finish. If it is ‘in’ the dashboard plastic (which seems most likely but you may be lucky!) I’d say pretty much any matt finish plastic / rubber product. My personal favourite is Poorboys rubber and plastic but there are loads that do much the same job. Good luck!

  26. Does look very very clean and tidy both body and interior..things go down hill with the bonnet open 😮 Rusty radiator brackets , battery jacket missing . History wise, not been mot’ed or taxed since last March 2023. As a rule of thumb, rusty radiator brackets ,corroded underside. would definitely make a very good show car and a rare colour, price is a bit top heavy but acceptable if it’s dealer service stamp for every year of its life. Photo’s too shaded to see brand of tyres ☹️ …Send Gary around he’s our best negotiator for a good deal !😁😁

  29. In my view, Lexus are the luxury arm of Toyota with bullet proof reliability. Factory fitted standard items on a Lexus/Toyota Model cost c. 20% plus above list price when you compare any German offering with the equivalent spec yet their reliability is imperfect & the Trade ignores high-specced Audis et al. My LBX will be the Eco Equivalent of the NX450i I nearly bought, given the standard Michelin Tyres are no match for the NX AVS but I do save 23k. Tel

  30. I’ve only just caught up with this thread, Stuart, but wanted to express my sympathy that you have been the victim of such mindless vandalism. I regret that I cannot offer anything practical in the form of replacement screens, but agree with Malcolm - and others - that the culprits should be exposed. I suspect that the Police may have a good idea who’s responsible for this and other instances of local criminal damage. Without clear video evidence it’s a matter of catching them in the act. I wondered if you had considered calling the local paper or TV and revealing how much this moronic activity is affecting your Life and the challenging circumstances that you are already dealing with? Of course, you may feel that that might make you even more of a target. But the culprit is almost certainly well known locally and some well directed publicity might well shame others into developing a social conscience. After all, it’s your car today - but it’ll be theirs tomorrow unless it’s stopped.

  32. Over here we have a system since the last 10 (?) years where you pay you road tax based on CO2 emissions.... As an extra spin on it they added the "Bonus-Malus" system back in 2018 1£ = 13,40 SEK Bonus means good. Malus means bad. The idea of the bonus malus system is to reward vehicles that emit relatively small amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2), while burdening vehicles that emit relatively large amounts of CO2 with higher vehicle tax for the first three years: malus. This way, the bonus malus system can serve as a complement to the more general fuel tax, and contribute to reducing the transport sector's oil dependence and climate impact. Since 8 November 2022 only the malus part of the system remains. For vehicles that are put into use and become taxable for the first time on or after 1 June 2022 is the carbon dioxide charge 107 SEK per gram of CO2 if the vehicle emits more than 75 grams and up to 125 grams of CO2 per kilometre, and 132 SEK per gram if the vehicle emits more than 125 grams per kilometre. The additional environmental charge is 250 SEK per year and shall be paid for diesel powered vehicles. The additional fuel charge shall also be paid for diesel powered vehicles. It is calculated by multiplying the vehicle's total CO2 emission (in grams) per kilometre during mixed driving with 13.52. Takes a lot of calculating to get it right... simplyfied its like this: Petrol powered vehicle Basic charge + carbon dioxide charge Diesel powered vehicle Basic charge + carbon dioxide charge + additional environmental charge + additional fuel charge Hybrid electric vehicle The same goes for hybrid electric vehicles. If that is the case, you base your calculation on the fuel of the internal combustion engine (usually petrol).

  35. Its been painfully slow, partly due to the appalling weather me being on the Sea Front and having little energy. If we get a few good days I may be able to work on it. The Canvas with screen has been made up. I have until the 12th April to decide if to throw in the towel and claim or see if there is an option to keep albeit with a claim payout. Funny thing is that Saga sent a renewal notice for £472.01 (previous three year fixed at £342.91.) Seems they may still insure thirty year old Cars. Unlikely perhaps if I claim, I suspect.

  44. On a roll over the holidays, replaced the rear shocks, top mounts, insulators and bump stops this morning. All OEM apart from the shocks which are KYB to match the fronts. I had put off this job because I’d read that it’s a pain removing the rear struts, needing to compress the springs on the car to remove the strut. After watching a YouTube video using ‘the method’ for doing this, it turns out it’s a load of hogwash. There is no need whatsoever to compress the spring on the car to remove the strut. All that is needed is to remove the bottom shock bolt, knock the shock off the hub, remove the top mount nuts (if not removed already), push down on the hub so you can lower the strut enough so the top mount studs clear the fixing holes, rotate 90 degrees, lower the bottom of the strut into the gap between the suspension arms, tilt towards you and remove. Absolute piece of cake and I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was. Invest in a white paint marker pen and mark everything on the existing strut while on the car to make things easier later on for alignment. Once the struts are off the car the tricky bit is aligning the shock, spring and top mounts so it’s in alignment to fit back on the car. I can’t document exactly how to do this but you need to use your noggin, comparing the strut you removed with the alignment marks and transpose them to the new shock and top mount. If you have no idea how to do this type of thing then don’t attempt it. Having an impact wrench on the spring compressors helps with reassembling the struts, the strut doesn’t move as much. Release the spring compressors gradually while checking the alignment is correct and adjust as needed. You can always compress the springs again and redo it. Getting the bottom of the shock to fit back in the hub isn’t straightforward because the bottom mount is not square to the shock. I found the best way is to push down on the hub and get the shock started at the back into the hub - aligned as best you can, using a mallet so as not to damage the new strut whack on the bottom ‘eye’ mount bit to get it into the mount. It won’t be perfectly aligned but it’s in. Then using a round tapering pry bar inserted through the mounting, jiggle it about to align it so the bolt will go through completely or about 2 inch, then tap the bolt with a mallet or hammer to get the both through. Putting the rear seats back in was a a pain because I was knackered, body was complaining and getting cramp in legs and fingers. Job for tomorrow was going to be the engine mounts, had a enough for a few days - my old body needs time to recover. Maybe a job for Monday😀

  45. On the way back from my usual hospital clinic [when things weren't as efficient as they usually are] today, I noticed that there are TWO cracks radiating from the bottom of the windscreen which, although not YET MOT fails, will only spread. I suspect they happened on a stretch of carriageway which is currently being resurfaced with ramps at the beginning and end of the roadworks where the limit is currently 30 mph. Can't prove it was there though, as they aren't seen from the driver's seat until the light hits them at a certain angle..... My concern is it's a bonded windscreen with rain sensor - I'll be watching/carefully checking during and after replacement. I'm assuming it won't be a genuine Lexus screen but an 'aftermarket' one by a reputable manufacturer. No pics as it's dark out now. That'll be £100 excess on my policy, then. Oh well, it's only money.... Bad day all round really.
