  1. I'd give NFU Mutual a try also. Have to go direct but was easily the best when I renewed recently...

  2. Until you can get the new security canbus and software sorted, it is cheaper to buy a crooklock for the steering wheel than lose your car. I use mine every time I park anywhere outside my home garage. Annoying to have to keep fitting, and yes thieves can get through some of the locks - just takes them more time, and they are likely to look for easier pickings elsewhere.

  3. The big question is why has insurance gone up so much. I suggest 2 simple answers ( like it or not ) 1 Insurance companies just want to make a load of money and have got together to rip-off the public, 'cos they can. 2 ( probably more fact based as opposed to opinionated ) For many years the Police have refused to investigate burglaries and car theft and they normally just say claim on your insurance, here's your crime number. This has exacerbated the rise in thefts and therefore claims and therefore insurance costs. Plus the crimes are not investigated or solved and continue to rise and increase premiums. OK you are now free to shoot me down in flames for my opinions.😆

  5. The problem is that it won't stop them doing nearly 4K worth of damage trying to steel it. Thy pull back the bumper on the LC as there is not enough room to get in through the wheel arch.

  6. When the comparison sites first appeared, I found myself hunting through all those small print pdf files to establish what, exactly, I'd be covered for. What I found was that the cover being offered on the comparison site was less comprehensive that the insurer's own direct website. Basically, to look competitive and appear in the top results, something had to give. Most people don't read the small print so they got away with it. I have no idea whether they operate in the same (underhand) way now but I have better things to do with my time than read all the small print so I no longer use the comparison sites. Maybe I'm losing out; maybe the companies behave more ethically these days; but then again, maybe pigs really do fly!

  7. Fair points. However, even now the Lexus dealers seem to struggle with diagnosing issues with the LC (due to its rarity). Imagine if a dealer has to do 10 hrs diagnosis whilst you’re paying the bill outside of warranty. Let’s take the gearbox as an example. It’s used in just the LC. Compare that to a ZF box.. if you have an issue with a ZF box, the chances are the issue will be very common and there’ll be lots of indies that can work on it. The LC gearbox on the other hand…….. The LC500 is my third Lexus. I’d put it’s build quality last. I think the rarity of the LC500 may make it an expensive long termer.

  8. Lexus LC 500 is surely of utmost Lexus quality similar ( or better ? ) to the brilliant renowned Ls400 and successors With proper maintenance including known preventative maintenance the Ls400 and successors will endure many hundreds of thousands of amazing miles …….. and often, usually, without Main Dealer attention in later life Buy the LC with confidence eh ! I’ve not read here of challenging problems to mitigate ownership …… just don’t be afraid to spend a little maintenance money to achieve wonderful longevity Just an uninformed layman view with some 25 years of constant Ls400 ownership …… and a few hundred thousand, relatively inexpensive wonderful miles Malc

  9. If your like me, the best part about owning a Lexus is the nice toys and technology that Lexus offer. I've recently swapped my IS220D SE-L for a IS250 SE, The SE-L was fitted with the illuminated door sills that light up "Lexus" when you open the doors, a really nice feature which should be standard in my opinion. Unfortunately my 250 SE only had the basic plastic sills that look a bit cheap on a Luxury car so i pulled off the plastic ones to find that the cars are fitted as standard with the plug for the illuminated sills, so I thought I could just buy the illuminated sills and plug them in. Unfortunately it turned out that this is not the case, all the cars do indeed have the plug however the plug is only wired in on the Luxury and sports spec models, to get around this problem you need to do some basic home wiring which I will show you now. Please note: I take no responsibility for any damage done to your vehicle while following this guide. For this modification you will need the following: 1-2M of Auto Wire 4x Scotch Locks A Pair of Bull Nose Pliers A Pair of Snips Stanley Knife/Craft knife Step 1: Remove the existing door sills to reveal the wiring loom underneath ( A bit of brute force pulling straight up will remove the sills) Step 2: Using a Stanley Knife or Craft knife, carefully cut away the electrical tape that covers the wires that go into the door sill connector (Be particularly careful not to cut into any wires in the loom). Step 3: Take your Auto Wire and 1 scotch lock and Scotch lock your auto wire and the White wire going into the Door Sill Connector together (Leave the blue wire as it is). Step 4: Remove the interior trim that covers the seat belt tensioner system (to aid this process put the seat in the fully back position and the backrest all the way back, and open the rear door. Again some force will release the clips holding the panel on). Step 5: Locate the wire that connects to the Door switch, it sits on the inside of the pillar behind the switch. (A White Wire on the drivers side and Purple on the Passengers side, shown in the image above). Step 6: Trace your auto wire around the current loom to reach the Door Switch wire behind the seat belt panel. (when doing this ensure that your auto wire cannot rub on the seat belt as it moves back and forth during use). Step 7: Take a Scotch lock and scotch lock the Door Switch wire and auto wire together (Ensure you don't short out the wire on the vehicle's body work while using metal tools. I also wrapped some electrical tape around the scotch lock to ensure nothing metal would contact the bodywork in the future). Step 8: Plug in your illuminated door sills to ensure they are working correctly, when you push the Door switch the Sills should shut off and then light up when the switch is released. (If your Sills don't light up please check to see if you have your interior light switch set to come on when the doors open). Step 9: When you are happy that everything is working correctly, push the interior trim panels back into place. Some pressure on the areas should clip everything back in to place. Finished Product. I hope this guide was helpful, if i've missed anything or you have any questions please post here and I will endeavour to help the best I can.

  10. If the reliability is as good as claimed and experienced by Lexus owners, then why not. In years past I could cheerfully take much lesser cars well into 6 figures and apart from an Alfa Romeo, they all made it without any complications. I would also say they were all serviced by the book except the Alfa, lesson learned! Additionally, these were always new cars driven only by me.

  12. My understanding is that most often the “ red “ for the Rear Wheels alignment isn’t going to affect your driving nor handling of the car …… nor detrimental to the car, tyres etc …….. is there detrimental, discernible rear tyre wear ?? …… if yes then action is needed ……. if not then, well, you know my layman thoughts Perfection will necessitate a remedy …… Practicality …… it might be ok to leave ……. AS with the aircon recharge ! Your depth of pockets will dictate I’m sure Best wishes Malc

  14. Make sure you get a print out of the tracking / alignment results, you can then have a discussion with objective data. Same with brakes, what is the pad / disc thickness and what are the specifications for wear. If the dealer can't answer these simple questions them most likely they are trying it on.

  15. Thank you for all your comments. The trust element is a conflict as I like the dealer doing the service especially with the hybrid check, and you want to trust their advice, but..... No we don't hit curbs and don't recall dropping into a deep pot hole (which also usually affects the front tracking more than the rear). Again, for this to be an issue three years in a row is not a good thing for the Lexus brand.

  16. How have you been able to track the exact location, Tel? Reason I ask is because all I can see from My Garage on the Lexus + app is "Left the factory..." but no details as to where it is or on which ship. I was informed there was an LBX Takumi in White with Saddle Tan en route when I ordered it last month, with an ETA of around mid-May.

  17. Just thought I would ask whether anyone has had any related contact with/from their dealer? I, too, was supposed to hear from mine around now, and perhaps during the course of next week I may well give mine a prod unless others might be aware of any change to the Lexus scheduling.

  19. Most insurance companies will also let you choose your own repairer, but usually you will have to pay an additional £200 or so excess.

  20. Service managers are required to upsell in order to try and meet targets. Two of the most common items you have mentioned - tracking and air con re-gassing. Easy money for the dealership and the customer will never know if these items were completed or not. The other common advisory / campaign for additional work - brake discs and pads. The usual speech, " Your brake pads are 50% worn".

  21. The air con top up is recommended every 2 years but doesnt require doing if its OK really The alignment probably needs to be done. It will wear your tyres out and likely due to road conditions / potholes

  22. Sorry Dan, wouldn't touch it. Called up Adrian Flux as someone I was involved in an accident with gave me a false insurance company... searched the DB for £10 , found that he was actually insured with yourselves, and it was a total nightmare to find the contact info, then the person on the phone was awfully rude to me. Thanks but no thanks.

  23. Managed to find the answer. “From the side, lower 'Electric' badges are one of the few giveaways to this model's BEV status; that and the fact that it has two 'filler' flaps, one for a Type 2 charger on the driver's side and one for a fast-charge CHAdeMO plug on the near side. “

  24. I’d go further. I suggest that Lexus Dealerships don’t have tyre fitters. They have mechanics who occasionally fit tyres. Although I have been surprised to find that my local Lexus dealer has matched my regular tyre supplier in price, I would probably only use them if I was combining it with a Service at the same visit. On the whole I think someone competent fitting tyres all day for a living will generally make a better job of it. I apply the same reasoning to using an auto electrician to install accessories.

  25. It's not just cars. LV won't insure my house because I have oil central heating! They have become very picky lately; acting like a start-up that only wants low risk business. I won't use them for this reason but, in fairness, I have always been happy with their travel insurance.

  26. The last 7 weeks have been a complete nightmare. Forensics we're finally done and I was allowed to collect my belongings from the pound, but wasn't allowed to see the car. Only thing they took was my dashcam. The car was moved on Monday just gone (22 April) to the repair place, and I was finally able to see my car. There is no damage, and wires have been pulled in the boot and carpets in front under the dash. She drives too which surprised me. So now I wait for a few scratches to be repaired, wiring put back, then I'll get my car back probably in about 2 weeks or so. Insurance sent my documents and keys back, reinstated insurance and I've re-taxed the car.

  27. A new vehicle comes with them. If you purchase new pads or even a new calliper you would be expected to reuse the existing ones. I wouldn't expect a Toyota/Lexus dealer to use copper grease, they have specific service bulletins that mention the correct grease and the amount to use.

  28. Ah naw, they agreed this time to use genuine parts no argument or anything. I’ll be double checking! I wonder if it’ll take ages. Nothing too high tech and 15 years of production behind the CT unlike a RR so fingers crossed

  29. Wheel alignment / tracking is often influenced by the state of the roads you’re driving on and that impact on your tyres, steering set-up whatever ……. and at the tiny mileage covered you might not even see undue tyre wear either …. Yet …. Might be the service guys are recommending as they’re just touting for business whatever It used to be that if there was nowt wrong then the checking wasn’t charged for …… you’d get a printout showing green and red indicators and green at the final printout when all adjusted …….. Often the rear adjustments are just a little unnecessary ( over the top ) as that won’t affect your steering …….. On this basis you might want to have it checked out at an independent tyre place that does tracking etc AND not charge if there’s nowt to be adjusted ! You’ll see by the printouts I’ve mentioned The air con re-charge …… seems OTT to my mind too 🤔 Good luck ! Malc

  37. My multi-car renewal quote from LV has just gone up by 40%... 😞 The UX250h element went up by +80% compared to +22% for each of the other 2 cars. Nothing had changed - no claims, no convictions; just no claims bonus increased by a year and cars all a year older... So I thought I'd shop around with multi-car providers I'd used before. Admiral wanted +52% more than LV!! Aviva wouldn't cover... despite emailing me and inviting me to get a quote! We need these security upgrades - and insurers need to know they are fitted!

  38. I would agree aesthetically 20” wheels do look better as well as the lowered look. The downside is reduced comfort and being more prone to damage from pot holes, etc. I guess it is what is more important to you as it is your car to do what you want with it. I have read posts in the past where people in the UK have gone for 20” but then went smaller because of the ride. Interesting outside of the UK 20”’ seems to be a popular choice, perhaps the roads are far better. Personally I went from 18” to 19” and to be honest I haven’t noticed any difference in the ride.

  39. Hello everyone. Became an LBX driver at the end of March. Fortunate enough to have a Dealer prepared to sell a showroom car which exactly met spec and colour we were looking for and therefore avoided the 3 month wait of a factory order. Early days yet and haven’t driven many miles but so far delighted with the car.

  40. Had my LBX for a week now and really like it. My first Lexus and I'm impressed with the quality. Changed from a Leon SR and wanted more bells and whistles as well as a better mpg having just retired. As a previous poster said, I tried both xc30 and xc40 Mazdas but we both really didn't like the lack of any grunt to get away from junctions etc. As also mentioned, not too bothered about the rear leg room as there are only the two of us. I find the online manual really frustrating as its not easy to go to what you want to find out and then to have to go to another reference. The actual hard copy owners manual is much better but only skims the surface. My dealership (Teesside) hadn't/couldn't load up the Lexus sat nav and pushed me to use Google maps instead. Taking time at home I was able to activate Lexus's myself and find it very good, I don't intend to faff around with using my phone for guidance (old gadgie alert!) The dealership are going to have to get involved though as asking for any map updates brings up advice to see them! I really enjoy the drving with the car and it will take a while to get used to all the driving and safety aids. Cosmetically the car looks top class and I'm pleased to have taken the plunge.

  45. rayaans- Where did you learn of CanBus thefts and Lexus providing the plates ? Why would a normal owner of a Lexus be aware of a post manufacture fitting of a security measure, other than by a recall. Keyless thefts have been all over the media for years and manufacturers have changed key devices etc as did Lexus. It’s because Keyless became more secure the thieves found and exploited the CanBus vulnerability. Newspapers and other media explained how keyless theft works and how to overcome it. In all the articles I have read about Lexus having the 2nd highest theft rate, none of them mentioned CanBus attacks so normal owners assume it is Keyless. Other than on these type of forums / websites no media has broadcast or informed about CanBus thefts. Lexus aren’t going to, as that just attracts even more thefts. I think it is wrong to suggest that the owner is in any way responsible for a theft because they didn’t have a little known post manufacturing device fitted - that is a small step away from saying insurers shouldn’t pay out if an owner hasn’t taken every single measure to prevent a theft.

  46. I think a very small subset of Lexus owners use or read this forum (and why should they - for most people it is a way of getting form A to B - they are not enthusiasts). I don't think it is reasonable to expect an owner of a pretty new vehicle to know that a security enhancement has been made to their vehicle if neither the dealer of manufacturer has alerted them to the fact.
