  1. Was trying to find out about 220d and was the best place by miles... Thanks to Jamboo as well, all of my questions were answered by just lurking!!
  2. I have a question which is slightly but is kind of related... In the centre console there are two displays for the climate info and the radio, both of these on my car are covered in (not deep) scratches. As you view these from the side you can always see the reflection of the windows in it and this makes the scratches look worse, or from my viewpoint at least. Does anyone think a careful application of scratch X or other similar products mentioned on this thread would sort this out ? Apologies for hi-jacking the thread but it's not really worth one in it's own right :D
  3. Really sorry to hear about this - it appears the scumbags are at it again!!! Since getting my 220 I've been driven in to, broken in to, and also had my valve caps knicked!!! It does make me think what is the point of getting and looking after a nice car only to have some low life have a go.
  4. Hi Ian, welcome to LOC. You'll be needing this link to post up pics of your shiny new car when it arrives! :winky:
  5. I bought a cheap 'bug remover' sponge from Halfords for £2 and it works a treat!
  6. I have a mate with a new 220d in Canterbury Blue, he never looks after company cars so it's been through a car wash at least 20 times :o , parks in it the trees/bushes near his house, basically treats it like it was a 15 year old Fiesta Pop plus. Apart from a few swirls from the car washes though it's is still in remarkably good condition, might be worth going back to the dealer and seeing what you can push them to if some of the colours are known to be soft or have a low durability.
  7. 250d SE (L) MM 250d Sport 250 SE Auto My only reason for getting the 220d was for the company car tax, I also chose not to 'top up, being a tight git so went for base model. Although the MM is great, the standard sound system is superb anyway and a very good portable GPS is a lot cheaper than the MM and can have bluetooth as standard. If I was choosing for more than my wallet I'd go for the 250 SE Auto (but add parking sensors). The SE has as much kit as you'd need, the SE-L is great but I could cope without some of the gizmos. The gearing in the diesel is it's worst aspect and if you cruise at 80-85 this is the lowest it'll do in 6th unless you get a sport (which'd be my second choice). Go to the dealers and have a spin is the best you could do - that'd narrow down the petrol/diesel argument at least.
  8. The spoiler is nice, might help the back end to not look quite so dumpy. Also noticed the wheels on the auction, full set of 18"'s (without tyres) for $964 - now that is worth thinking about :D
  9. :shutit: Mine is still rattle free, 5k miles, and it spends most of it's life on cr@ppy back roads and being wrung by it's neck. ;)
  10. Welcome to LOC, you'll love the car as well. As for the questions, not so nice..No and No are the answers as far as I know. Rich.
  11. ..but I might have to visit the dealer to see if they are for real - 'Nobby and Dicks used car emporium'. Surely a wind up
  12. I'm with you, they are ugly, unreliable and monumentally badly built. Again, only my opinion.
  13. I've always really liked them - even after they were described as a 'Rich mans Probe' Main issues are electrics, when they go wrong it's never a small job and the older they get the harder it will be to get decent parts and hence prices to repair will go up.
  14. I've just been and checked - the warning lights do come on when the needles light up on start up. I didn't check to see if they still did when you press the start button without the clutch pressed though - that might be different.
  15. Although mine is not particularly nothcy, it certainly doesn't like to be rushed. On quick changes I get a bit of drivetrain 'clunk' but I don't have the crunching of the synchro. I might ask the dealer about what mods are being made to the gear box though. As for.. Don't always believe the reviews from car mags who rely on heavy advertising. They are different cars, I personally would hate the stigma of having a 3 series and the comfort and experience of having the Lex far outweighs any minor niggles I have. Rich.
  16. Congratulations - before anyone else says it - we need photo's :winky:
  17. If the wheels have got a 3 year warranty from new, the you might argue that the 3 years should start again from the time they are replaced. I've had this agreed with other warranty work before so it's got to be worth a try.
  18. Gutted for you - it only happened to me a few weeks back and I still get angry now thinking about it
  19. How invisible is it really? I've seen it in magazines but it must surely leave a faint line where it ends and the 'naked' car starts again. That would gather polish/dirt etc I'd think. Be interested to hear your views when it's fitted.
  20. That is shocking, it may well be worth changing dealers. I agree with the sentiments of giving them a chance to rectify problems but the recall work should be straight forward. As for the comment.. That made me laugh out loud
  21. You must remember the 'Large Injectors' saga a few weeks back. That spun off another thread which covered warm fuel being nearer flash point etc etc Post #6 in the below refers. As to a measurable benefit, who knows??? I covered it at Uni but can't remember much from then nowadays Forum
