Interesting Discoveries (good & Bad)

Recommended Posts

With regard to the reversing light, never had a problem as the rear LED tailights are plenty bright so bright up the area pretty well. The reversing camera helps when on a brighter setting too

Not really a discovery nor interesting, and not sure if anyones posted about these..

Bad : Single reverse light only, the 2nd Gen IS which i had previously had twin reverse lights whch was soometie handy for lighting up the rear in the dark,

Moving off in the morning, there is a judder in mevment when the engine kicks in ( perhaos engine cold?), i would have thought the PSD would have smoothed this off..

Rain sensors sometimes get confused

Good - plenty of good points

I agree about the single reverse light. I changed the bulb for a high power LED equivalent which is loads brighter. I haven't noticed any judder on engine kick in on my car.
Hi Edward, do you remember the part number for your replacement LED reverse lamp please? many thanks.

I thought it was just a 501 bulb???

Could be wrong?

i checked mine today and the reverse bulb has a 501 fitting but the bulb is approx 30mm in length

,maybe if you use a canbus LED as they are longer and they also have the leds positioned on the end

to throw light outwards maybe something like these

I used one of these. The bulb is a W16W. I ordered both but one of them was a little to long but I cannot remember which, sorry not very helpful. The COB LED on the end is very bright.

My rain sensing wipers work great on the IS, on the RX not so much.

On the IS I have them on medium and they come on exactly when I want them to. They also wipe on startup when the windscreen is saturated with water but it's stopped raining

My RX on the other hand refuses to wipe a saturated windscreen unless it is raining at the time and therefore needs manually operating on those occasions

its quiet surprising how the technology differs from model to model ,it would be reasonable to expect both

systems to work in exactly the same manner.

You would think so wouldn't you, but mine on the IS were better than those on my new NX.

To be fair I think the RX is still running on 2009 wiper sensor tech which has probably been adapted for new cars.

I guess windscreen rake would make a difference too

The auto wipers on my old 05 400h were light years ahead of the rubbish on the IS. I've had the sensor replaced under warranty, sadly it made little difference.

I thought the rain/wiper sensor was OK on my car. The headlamp/light sensor on the other hand has a mind of its own.............

Also, you would have thought that lexus could have linked the wipers to the lights, so if wipers are on and continuously wiping, it would bring the lights on, like on my previous car.

The sensitivity of the auto lights is adjustable mine works pretty well now. To be honest I wouldn't want the lights to be activated by the wipers. if it is raining the auto lights activate regardless of the wipers, seems a better option to me.

Yep, aware of that, but don't see it makes any difference really, have tried it up and down and the lights sometimes come on really early and are on and off at the merest hint of darkness, and sometimes decide to not bother.

At least you can turn the auto lights off if you want. On the new Jazz you can't turn the auto lights off so they stay off next time you start the car.

Now if they invented a car where the driver was in complete control over the lights and wipers that would be great!

We are just getting lazy and expect technology to be as clever as a human. A long way to go before that happens.

Works well on both RX and IS on lowest sensitivity. Never had it come on too early. In fact, it comes on same time as my house sensor lights!

I often drive on long stretches of motorway with lots of tunnels where daylight and relative darkness alternate

in variably quick succession, most notably in Switzerland. More often than not I turn on the headlights and

leave them on, but I sometimes let the auto function do its work and must say that the factory default light

sensitivity setting has always proved effective enough, by which I mean that the lights come on practically

simultaneously with entry into a tunnel at normal speeds. If you are driving significantly over the speed limit

there is a slight but noticeable time lapse which, if it worries you, could no doubt be eliminated by customising

the sensor's sensitivity.

Having looked at your links, the first one, the LED appears to be 45.5mm long and the second one is 48mm long. Am I correct in thinking that the longer one doesn't fit anyway?

Thanks for the links. Are you still happy with the end result?

The LED bulb is much brighter than the filament bulb it replaced. It almost makes up for there only being one lamp fitted.

I would post a picture but on the train at present on my way home.

One of the bulbs in the links fitted although I think it was the girth rather than the length but to be honest cannot remember now. I would have a look but it involves removing the boot lid liner trim which is a pain.

Just found that the seats have a small pad between the side of the seat and the centre console to stop pens etc falling down the gap between the seat and centre console. How thoughtful.

Also, I can play my music in random mode from any directory of the memory stick. So I can put all my music one one stick and have it play any song at random.

With the single reversing lamp, what i miss is the symmetry of my previous car with 2 lights.

Even though i have the reversing camera and bumoer sensors, under certain conditions it still cannot make up for the missing light...

HEATED SEATS.....

Used mine in earnest today, and was a tad disappointed to find only the centre bit is heated, and the side support cushions aren't. Makes the cold bit even more noticeable!
