Is this a record price for a Mark 3 ??

Recommended Posts

It's simply an underused Mk3  .......  what's the point buying one unless you're going to get the benefit and fun from using it  ???

Might be the new owner is going to do just that  .  i hope so eh !

Someone on here  ??

I feel blessed with my Mk3 at just 235k miles more 🤣

and at an advanced age and ability that there's no way i could possibly get any benefit from stuffing shed loads of pound notes into another ...  hahahahahahhaha

Remembering buying my second Ls400 at just 3712 ? miles from a car sales guy in Windsor some years back .. I did up to 43k miles in it before some toad wrote her off ......... and all that car had from new was a change of cambelt too ........  think I paid just under £4k at the time for her ,,,,,,,,,,,,,  delighted to have an almost new Ls400 at the time for little money too . felt lucky and blessed .  as i do now, every day driving my Mk3

luckily I've got one the same

nope, yours is a Mk4, the front bumper lights are different is the simple tell-tale sign  ..................  the parking sensors on the Mk3 were an addition methinks, coz i don't have them either

Make sure you get to use your car lots and lots, these Ls400s thrive on happy and good regular use

It was a Second Generation (Mark 2) wasn`t it ?

Opening a can of worm there 😉

Whilst (incorrectly) referring to the LS400 as a MK1 to MK4, a Mark/series/generation increment is determined by model code and that didn't change 4 times within the timeframe of the 400 engine. Therefore:

LS series 1 - UCF1x model code

    1989-1992    (aka MK1)

    1992-1994 facelift model (aka MK2)

LS series 2 - UCF2x model code

    1994-1997    (aka MK3)

    1997-2000 facelift model (aka MKIV)

LS series 3 - UCF3x model code

    2000-2003    (LS MK5, or LS430 MK1?????? This nomenclature doesn't work).

    2003-2006 facelift model

etc.

etc.

parts availability situation would put me off, regardless of the price.

I think you'd be OK finding any parts you ever needed .  well, for the next 25 years anyway 🙃

I stand corrected Malc ;o)

Well she's done over 16K in the last year and is getting looked after, (just changed the rear shock mounts and bushes), so all good.

Some fairly major parts are either unavailable or eye wateringly expensive. I needed a power steering pump and alternator for my MK3/UCF20 not long after purchase and had to gamble with non-Lexus parts. Turned out OK but with the lack of available body parts it was one of the reasons I decided to stop using mine as a daily and eventually moved it on. The possibility of some idiot pulling out in front of me and my car getting written off was too much of a risk, lovely though it was.

That said, everyone should experience an LS400 at least once.

in my case it's about once or twice each and every day for about 22 years ........  quite blissful and sublime driving for sure .............. and if mine was to get properly written-off where she couldn't be repaired, well, I know there's another not too far away ready to be purchased and used for so long as i can drive

Replacing my alternator was a bit of a faff to be sure ...  there are about 3 or so different options and only the ONE would do for my specific Mk3 .............  no good asking Lexus parts .  they didn't have a clue ........  I didn't do this BUT one could have the existing alternator " rewound " is it ? by a specialist fabricator .....  that way it would fit ok your specific car .......  if there's a next time that is .....  I think my original alternator lasted just over 200k miles

I think it does work because the LS400 is generally known as mk1, mk2, mk3 or mk4. The LS400 is generally referred to in this way, although it is technically incorrect as you say, not a L430 or LS460 or LS600. It’s a ‘LS400’ thing not a ‘LS’ thing. LS430 onwards is referred to in a different way as with many other makes and models, pre-facelift and face-lift.
My favourite is the LS400 Mk3🙂

So that would be the series 2 mark 1 then.......stop it, no don’t go there, I can’t control my right hand it’s trying to strangle me.

Anyway I now have a post facelift LS430...it has parking sensors so I don’t hit a post and give it a facelift 😀
