  1. When it comes to belts, age as well as mileage causes degradation so must betaken into consideration.

  3. All 400h, of all ages, have a cam belt (as do the RX300/RX330). Only the series III 450h onwards has a chain driven engine. It should be changed every 100k/10 years. If it breaks it will almost certainly damage valves/pistons as the engine is an interference design.

  4. Take it to the dealership and get the error codes read, or at very least a hybrid health check. If you really have done all you listed here you have no problems spending money!

  7. It's a standard 20k major service (oil, oil filter, brake fluid, rear diff oil) + engine and hybrid inverter coolant (the first change from the factory fill). Coolant is then changed every 50 miles so your 150k miles service will be larger than a normal intermediate service. The next major service (120k miles) will also be larger than normal as it would need plugs changing (every 60k miles) and air filter (every 40k miles).

  8. Once on the ramp 2 1/2 hrs roughly across the road is a small lake and a good walk around it I seem to remember a cafe but take a flask and sandwich, we sat outside because of covid and it was quite cold, not the best of experience but worth it in the end he offered me either 2inch piping or 3inch I left it up to him and apparently I have 2 inch pipes, he has a rack full of tailpipes I went with slashed ones, he also had some blue burned ones 😀 stew

  10. These cars are pretty bullet proof engine and gearbox are good for some huge mileages so not a problem, bodywork is good, chassis suffers from surface rust but usually treatable, main dealer parts can be expensive but plenty of aftermarket suppliers, most cars will need exhaust replacing at 10 + years old and often shock absorbers though at £300 a corner a set of coilovers may be the way to go,abs rings seem to be coming up a lot recently but £200 at an indi or £25 if you can DIY, finally a good service history is better than a lower mileage these are just my opinions and hopefully far more knowledgeable people will answer your post, good luck whatever you decide 😀

  11. The drivers seat will tell you how the car has been loved. brake pedal rubber wears on edge at about 100k. check for water marks from leaky roof seals esp in boot. clunky transmission may be water in gearbox

  12. Thanks but may want to remove it so if I use bolts or rivnuts the firm I bought off do chrome or ss studs to cover the 4 holes up but sikaflex is a great idea even pop rivets have a 500lb tensile strength?? Ps this is a porsche boxter rack with alterations to fit Lexus £220 if anyones interested thanks Stew

  13. If you don't want to drill the lid what about using an auto adhesive bond like sikaflex to attach it.The glass bond stiff one needs a primer. Aston Martin use it to glue chassis together.

  17. I think you will find that next Friday 22nd is only 2 months since your order. I ordered my 350h Takumi on the 12th Feb, the last delivery update I had from the dealer was October 22, and mine is also still showing 'order in progress' on the Lexus Link app. It's a long wait for everyone I think.

  18. Hi Guys, I placed an order for my 350H Takumi in end of Feb 22 the dealer said it's going to be end of Jan/Feb 23 for delivery, then he said good news it could be in dec 22, but after checking in the lexus link it's still showing as order in progress and end of this month it will be 3 months.

  19. Have you, or has anyone, done any proper diagnostic fault-finding on this car or are you just throwing money and parts at it and hoping that something will work at some point? The error messages are just an indication that something, somewhere, is going (or gone) faulty. This is the sign that you need to take it to a Lexus dealer or any other garage that has access to Techstream to have the OBD codes read. You could even do it yourself with a generic code reader, but Techstream is the same diagnostic software used by the techs in the Lexus dealer workshops. Even when you get a code, even that is not guaranteed to be the fault itself, merely just the starting point for more in-depth diagnostics. For instance, code P0AA6 covers SIX possible problem areas. Generic code readers would probably stay at that, but Techstream goes further by also giving sub-codes and narrowing it down more. For example, P0AA6-123* points to one thing; P0AA6-124* points to a different thing; P0AA6-125* something else again, and so on. *Not real sub-codes, just for illustration. So, you need to have the codes read and then come back to tell us what they are and maybe we can help, but until then it's all just random guesswork.

  21. Having worked through the wiring diagrams I have identified the Door ECU's have the MR (Mirror Retract) signal and of course the MUL (Motor Unlock) and ML (Motor Lock) signals, I wonder if the LS switch that Neil E shared is simply linking two signals in the door. Does anyone have the LS wiring diagrams to see what the switch is connected to? M

  25. Only 1 “handle” which is off centre to the right to close the boot. Previous cars [Hondas] had handles on both sides. I always seem to have something in my right hand. TBH, if that’s the worst I can find, it shows how happy I am with the car.

  28. Sorry but I have to strongly disagree there. The art is in getting a good installer who actually understands what they are doing and not just 'painting by numbers' as it were. Anybody can get a kit of parts and fit A to B to C and so on, but understanding the way the system works is crucial and can make all the difference. Until getting a hybrid I ran LPG in various cars for about 17 or 18 years and never had a single problem.

  30. Problems with diesels: Injectors Turbos Egr valves Dpf filters (if they have them) Ad blue if newer Aby savings in cost would be wiped out if any of those things go. However, I'd take 4.5 litre turbo diesel V8 300 series Landcruiser all day long! 😉

  31. Ok - now car is definitively fixed and I am saying it because I am 99% confident of what has caused it. So, the night before the fault I took it for car wash, I washed it and because after washing the engine was warm I thought I will rev it and see how smoothly it revs, so launch the car few times revved it out probably 5000+ RPM, came back home and next day it would not start. Yesterday after finally somehow clearing the immobiliser fault, it let the engine warm-up revved it few times and noticed that after revving engine nearly stalls. This led me to conclusion that there is still some other issues with fuel delivery maybe pump, HP pump, fuel pressure sensor or something in between, but as car was still staring I was mucking about with immobilisers and various stuff and eventually it would not start again. Could not figure out why, but thought enough for tonight, immobiliser comms got corrupted again or something and left it until today. Today I repeated what I did yesterday, changed immobiliser, reset and resync, but was still getting trouble starting the car. At this point I thought - I had new fuel pressure sensor anyway, because I bought it believing it may be causing issues, so I tried changing it to see what happens. Changed fuel pressure sensor and all problems are gone, even Shift Solenoid Performance and O2 Sensor codes are gone! Now the biggest issues diagnosing it was that it is intermittent and requires special circumstances to occur (that is my "favourite" type of issues, because they nearly impossible to diagnose). So the way to reproduce the issue is as follows, start the car, rev the engine past 5000-6000RPM, this causes fuel pressure sensor malfunction, which as result interrupts and corrupts communication on LIN network (which is 5V and communicates between immobiliser, wheel lock and certification ECU), like it is not enough, you can start the car again and you won't know there is an issue as long as you don't lock it. So what caused the issue yesterday was that I locked the car at some point when trying to link the keys. If you lock the car something happens with immobiliser and it won't work again, so when you come to unlock it next day car won't start with immobiliser communication error. Now in theory if you can clear the error from immobiliser, car would start and run again until you reach high RPM and cycle repeats, but for some reason the error was not clearing (I don't know why, maybe again because immobilisers somehow corrupts itself). In my case I had to use another immobiliser for the code to clear. Anyhow if one never reaches high RPM then this issue does not repeat itself and fuel pressure sensor works fine when idle or with engine off, so when I was measuring it there was no issue with it. Basically I took out dashboard for nothing (although ultimately it helped me to find the issue), but I don't hate myself too much, because realistically there was no way to diagnose it to fuel pressure sensor when it was failing in this very specific intermittent way. @Lythics and few others were right, it was fuel pressure sensor, but I knew this could be the case and have actually checked it before without finding any issue. And what is conclusion - modern cars are complex and damn annoying to work on! Obviously better electrician probably would have been able to find ways to troubleshoot it properly, but where do I suppose to find them?! It is nearly impossible, I have had 4 different people to check the car and they could not diagnose it.

  32. I too like to have the armrest down but I can’t say that the void has ever really bothered me. But if you fill it then I guess you won’t be able to raise the armrest again should you need to sit three across the back. Of course, that could work to your advantage! But the question remains: What goes into the space? Well, how about a drinks cabinet with a drop down walnut-faced door? A tea, coffee, cold drink dispenser? A fridge? A chilled drawer in which to keep pre-prepared sandwiches and panini? Or fruit 🍎? Bird Watcher’s bins, ready for instant use? Games for the children? A Shewee (yes, it’s not all about us!). A powerful portable torch that connects to a recharging point. A small loudhailer for correcting the behaviour of other road users. Recharging points for phones. A small automatic umbrella. A change of shoes. Or underwear. Remember, you heard it here first.

  34. My 1948 Split Windscreen Morris Minor had TWO front seats Andrew. Must have been the De Luxe version I suppose ?🤣🤣🤣 And the Headlamp Flasher was a button on the floor, just left of the clutch pedal. And my Starting Handle resided in the Boot with the Spare Wheel (I think). Great cars. My uncle had an A40 Somerset. Thanks for the memories.

  35. I'm a bit stunned by this. If Herbie gets locked out then what chance do we stand ! I thought there was a a release lever in the petrol filler cap but was getting confused with my washing machine. Didn't someone connect a set of leads to access from the cabin ? What do Lexus do to open the boot ? Can't you apply 12 volts to the OBD socket ? My battery was over 14 years old on my beloved RX300 and this thing fails after 4 years ! I'm heading over to the Austin website to see if the latest A40 is due soon or maybe the latest Morris Minor.

  37. PANIC OVER! My wife is disabled and has one of these 'grabber' thingies, so I used that to lever up the back seat 'drop down lever' and then used it to grab the bag with my things in. The jump start battery pack hasn't been recharged for about 6 months but was showing 99% charge on the LCD screen and it worked like a charm. Seconds after connecting it I pressed the power button and the engine burst into life. It's currently on the driveway with the steering wheel crooklock on and charging the battery up while I now find a new battery

  42. Hi, I have Lexus RX400H 2008 model (Toyota Harrier Hybrid), the issue is the vehicle stopping while driving, then it shows Check VSC system and Hybrid control system. I faced this many times. While driving vehicle suddenly disengage driving and can't control steering wheel. Since the vehicle still moving can be park with saftly. Then swich off ignition and then switch on all the errors are fixed. So have done following things but issue is still the same. *. Changed the normal battery. * Changed the hybrid battery. * Change the Hybrid battery control module. * Change the temparature sensors. * Swaped with same inveter. Non of above method worked. I am in very curious situation what to do next. It seems issue is with power steering or hybrid system. Can anyone give your valuble ideas on this issue.
