After car was stolen last week, after the house was broken into and both keys, from different rooms were taken I now have a settlement figure from insurance co. They have offered my what I paid for it 3 years ago. I think that is pretty good going, no depreciation in 3 years.

So legally you should have cover for any major defects for 6-months, take it back to the dealer to fix or refund, don't throw money at it. Go to your local Citizens Advice or Trading Standards if the dealer does not play ball.

It was 3 years old but had only done 16k miles. So no depreciation in 3years I think is pretty good.

I am a bit late to the discussion, but I think it is correct to say that equivalent BEV is much heavier than equivalent ICEV... BMW 3-Series is bad comparison, because it's size is like previous gen BMW 5-Series, so it is really more the size of Model S than Model 3. So the statement is not that Range Rover or LS is light, but that equivalent car with battery would be even more heavy. There is even talk of changing rules for driving licenses because in many countries 3500kg is the limit for Category-B License. Where I agree with you is that it is not ONLY BEV issue, the whole SUV stupid fashion doesn't help for sure, where in the past the person would have had Fiesta or equivalent car, now they have some for of crossover or SUV. Basically all cars got much larger and heavier over the time, BEVs are just last straw really. So it is correct to criticise the BEVs for the weight, it is certainly a negative thing for the car, but to blame them for car parks collapsing is probably not right. Blaming any car regardless of the size of weight really sounds like an excuse for me - they failed to build sufficient infrastructure to accommodate changing needs, not only we don't have enough car parks/parking, but as well every time I go there the spaces are so tiny that no modern car fits and no wonder, because all of them were built in 50's and 60's. And then they find reason to actually demolish "unused" multi-storey car parks... really?! "unused car park in central London..." how did that happen?! This isn't anything new really, UK infrastructure is crumbling, this is not different from blaming motorists for traffic jams... Well... "you collect the money for the roads, but then don't build the roads to meet demand and we are at fault?!". So same here - they collect the money for parking, but then don't want to accommodate the cars they collected the fees from?! Solution is really simple - just redraw the markings and whereas the car park had 600 places, make it 400, because that is the size of the cars nowadays... You can't fit 600 Teslas where 600 Minis used to be parked. The weight problem will be gone as well. And by the way parking charges have already been raised and not by 30%, but rather by 3000%, so they can't even complain about getting less out of their car parks.

Really sounds like Lexus are now like all other pseudo luxury brands once they achieve status, chasing the money, cashing in, rather than chasing the quality. I remember when Merc went through a similar thing circa late 80's / 90's. They produced terrible cars for quite a while.

It's an in-house developed Toyota engine. They switched to using BMW engines at a later date for Auris/Corolla/Avensis etc. - presumably because their lack of ongoing R&D into diesel engines meant they were not competitive.

So glad you are not getting a Range Rover! Horrid, cash cow of a vehicle. You certainly had a bad run of car thefts. Why not have a look at the the Yaris? Hope all goes well for in the future.

The title of this thread should be updated to 'A new lexus owner'. Picked up the car, took it for a 100km spin through city, motorway and mountain driving. Can't complain so far - and I don't know if this is just me over compensating for giving up a beamer, but I no longer feel the need to throw the car into and out of every corner you pass, and to race past every other car, it is just so comfortable and relaxing a drive!

Hi all! Bit about myself. 48yr old male from Milton Keynes. Owned loads of hot hatches since the early 90s. An ex girlfriend had an IS200 in 2008, brilliant car, this gave me the idea of getting a Lexus! I bought an IS250 a few weeks ago. 92,000 miles with full Lexus service history. I have suffered from terrible anxiety and agoraphobia over the past 11 months, so as yet not been able to drive it. But I can do little jobs to my car and it helps me get out of my house. Hopefully I'll be able to drive it soon as having therapy for the anxiety 🙂

Thank you for the welcome Len. I bought it from a small town in Surrey, can't remember the name. I arranged for it to be delivered due to the severity of the agoraphobia. It was great seeing it arrive. It's in excellent condition with full Lexus service history. The only thing that needs doing is a new dashboard as it has a crack in it due to the previous owner driving to Southern Italy and staying there over the summer months for the past 7 years. Usually known for going rather sticky, in the sun. Mine is a bit sticky but has developed a crack. I've seen a second hand one on Ebay for £210 including delivery. That should keep me busy!

Mine had XGG95 applied today during its second service, it applies to the camera apparently. I mentioned about the other issue people have been having of the connected services requiring you to log in over and over again, it was claimed there is a software update coming in a few weeks to fix it and Lexus are aware of the issues people are having ...

I’d guess because some are second/third cars, some are owned by elderly/retired types and some are ex-demo or showroom models. Mine is august 2021 and only had 4,000 miles on it after 18 months as it was owned by lexus head office. The previous owner of the yellow 79,000 mile example needs to be congratulated though - good effort!

Lok, Thanks for your thoughtful comments. I agree that there appears to be an optimal "urban use" cycle for the NX - and very low speeds <20 mph do not fall within this definition. I must admit that this is not something I was expecting: indeed I was hoping for extra mpg at lower stop start speeds. It's ok; just slightly disappointing imo. As other cities/towns introduce lower speed limits, I suspect others may have the same issue. I agree that that the mpg might improve - although it may not - as I haven't been using the A/C and this typically would decrease mpg by ~ 10% I placed the order with Lexus Twickenham in Oct/Nov 21 and the car actually arrived very suddenly in the middle of December 22. Initially, I was told that it HAD to be registered in 2022 (likely to make annual sales numbers) which would have been very inconvenient as I was in Australia. After a LOT of fuss and a formal complaint, I managed to get it deferred to March - in time for the new registration.

Well that didn't work! Back later with test drives views.

I've been wondering about this thread. Collapsing multi storey car parks. Mmmmm I certainly can't remember hearing of this happening. Though I can believe a small percentage were built errrr shall we say by taking short cuts like reduced cement content concrete. That went on a hell of a lot in the 70's 80's and 90's. I know as I was in that industry. As for parking charges. A work colleague was Stunned when he and a few others took 2 trucks to our headquarters in Covent Garden Market. A car park next to it. For 24 hours parking how much? Yes you got it £200. Yes £200. Oh and to enter that market is a fiver even if your collecting from there or delivering. WTF is going on in this ruddy country? That mayor needs horse drawn and quartering for utter treason.

Only problem then is that 400 cars pay less than 600 cars. Not sure they like that idea.

Experience from when living in Africa and driving on roads that would not be called roads here and seeing very few Peugeots stranded, I suppose they could be called reliable. Peugeot has had electrical problems when the 106 Rally was new (around 1990 I think) because the common ground (negative) was placed just under the headlights and in cold wet countries that made the dashboard a lightshow with blinking lamps. The newer ones seems to not have that problem.

I must admit how quickly they have dealt with it impressed me. The only things they haven't agreed to pay is for a courtesy car (it wasn't included in my policy), and cost of retaining my cherished plate that was on it.

I wouldn't recommend a Peugeot 308, personal experience, that was a money pit, but that was related to the Prince engine, not sure if they are the same these days

I’m increasingly thinking it doesn’t work like that because there’s so few cars. Yellow and tan base car sells, yellow high miles sport stays at the same price - they don’t seem in any rush to shift it. My favourite colour too! Or they could hack ten grand off it, it sells instantly, then the other cars for sale… errr… stay at the same price. I think the way the trade works is they have a price cutting plan over weeks or months, then when it doesn’t shift at their rock bottom almost zero profit lowest price they either sit on it at that price or swap it into trade. There was another yellow car with 44/45k miles that went through two Lexus dealers and an independent before it disappeared. A structural blue car I looked at dropped more than ten grand I think before eventually selling, but it put no pressure on the prices of other cars as far as I could tell. Mine had to be a done deal by the end of the month according to the dealer. There were two similar cars on the market, my black interior, and a red interior car, both have now sold, there’s nothing comparable and the prices of the newer cars aren’t moving despite few sales. Supply and demand doesn’t seem to work very well in a very small market. The odd car pops up, seems good value and quickly disappears eg a very recent green over tan convertible - that went in literally days, whereas others just stick.

Hi Paul and welcome to the best Lexus forum there is and especially to owning the superb is250. You made a great choice. This car because of the way it drives and that sound from its V6 will help you overcome your anxiety and agoraphobia. Every time I drive mine I feel great. I love driving it. Any excuse to get in it and drive it I'm off. So what made you go for the is250? Which spec is it? The only achilies ankle of the car is the sticking rear brake calipers. It's the sliders that seize up due to lack of cleaning and greasing. Have a good read in the gen 2 is section of this forum. Every possible thing you want to know about your car you'll find it there. We're a good bunch of folk here. Don't be shy. Oh we kind of expect photos of the cars the new forum members have.

Yeah, would definitely be interested to see how polybushes affect the ride, from strong flex for the rear upper wishbone bushes they only have the harsher ones of 90 sha, which has put me off. I believe oem is 70, so could live with 80 provided there was no other option and the longevity of them is definitely a plus, i think on this occasion when I get round to it I will try the febest ones, if they don't last long even when fitted correctly then I guess it's either a whole new arm at considerable cost or hoping that polybushing just the rear upper wishbone doesn't ruin the car.

hi thanks for your reply yes your right it will be a design. wanted to get the fsport itself but to add the extras was going to take me into the higher RFL band which is unreasonable in my eyes £500 extra for 5 years is no joke. i also have seen the aftermarket systems you are talking about but i assumed, rightly or wrongly, that getting the bigger screen might just have been plug and play apart from the usual canbus setiings.years ago you used to pay extra to have a certain thing, on a new car that is,fitted by lexus individually like the upgrade sound sytem but now if you want an extra one thing you have to have others as well i.e a sunroof. i can't see the point on one of those if you've got aircon. anyhow will leave it there thanks again for your reply

Absolutely not only in UK. In Denmark you get fined for parking 5cm outside the marked area and the marked area is 10cm narrower than tha car. Extremely good business. Here on the island they are not as strickt with such rules, but marked spaces for parking are too small here also. And we are only looking for space enough to park a CT.

I would put it into UX forum, I found it strange that 12" was not available on F-Sport, but I assume what you got is called "F-Sport Design" pack, which seems to be very cut down version... Lexus are honestly weird with locking people into trims like that. So F-Sport can get Takumi-Tech pack, but F-Sport Design can't? Why would the prevent people from spending extra money on the car?! Although that said Takumi-Tech is £4500, so not exactly great value anyway. To be fair I doubt you find option here. For older Lexus there are aftermarket retro-fits, but for your car which is so new it will be near impossible to find the bigger screen infotainment system. Your only option is to find somebody who is parting out crashed UX which would have the system you want, but as you can imagine there isn't many around. Sure - you have an option to order it brand new from Lexus, but it will literally going to cost thousands... like £3000-4000 for whole system. I don't believe you can just get bigger screen and call it a day, usually the whole unit is made by different company. I am not certain about UX, but for example in IS the standard system was made by Panasonic, the premium was made by Pioneer and ML had mixture of Pioneer and ML components. So if UX is similar then you can't just get screen made by Pioneer and connect it to Panasonic head-unit - hope that makes sense. All in all, Lexus are really difficult when it comes to OE retrofits. I was about to say you may have to wait until Lexus US aftermarket re-retrofit comes out, but it seems you are in the luck, they already exists https://www.dvdgpsnav.com/blog/2019-2020-lexus-ux-200-250h-300e-android-head-unit-10-25-hd-screen-replacement/, you just need to make sure they have it for 2021 model year. However, just to be clear - this is not Lexus system, it is chinese made generic Android system. Now being generic Android that is not really a problem, actually it is million times better than what Lexus has made in terms of functionality, but don't expect same quality and warranty conditions. Who can do it for you I don't know... usually these are sold as "plug&play" DIY kits, there are probably some AV companies in UK which specialises in car AV which could do it.

Range Rovers are a bigger target than Lexus for theft.

It could easily be the Tilt & Telescopic Computer as much like all the other computers in the LSes built from 1998 onwards it was built using lead-free solder and that degrades with age. That is most of the reason why companies like SIA and others in the USA (and elsewhere) have built up a business from reflowing the solder joins on old Lexus/Toyota computer modules. The system consists of the switch, the wiring, the computer and 2 motors, so if the switch is good and the motors are good, then try replacing the computer. Also, don't forget it could be more than one fault. A short-circuited motor could have blown the power transistors in the computer or similar.

I don't know about specific planning rules and indeed you are likely right.. but the UK norm for parking spaces is 2.4 metres wide by 4.8 metres long... which shockingly I have never seen being done. Most of the time I would estimate parking spaces to be ~2.2 x ~ 4.5 meters, and many roadside spaces are just 1.9-2m wide, but often slightly longer ~6m (to accommodate parallel parking I guess). That said I know of several cases where local planners insisted for parking to be removed from the plan or otherwise they refused to grant planning permission. "Several" - that is exactly 5 and it was trough word of mouth so you can treat it as anecdotal evidence, but what I am trying to say - planners are putting pressure on developers to remove and reduce parking spaces to absolute minimum... and then government blames drivers for parking in the hedges!

was reading a little while back that the Planning Rules even today allow for a car parking space to be the dimensions of a 1930's model ........ narrow by comparison to a current SUV or even a simple Lexus . so whoever builds car parks nowadays, and indeed draw the lines in open air car parks, is quite legit to make them narrow Sad i know but there we are ......... Actually I've just read the information on it and it is the older one which has a top and bottom glovebox. As mine is a "54" it only has one box so will need to find the right one.

Security reasons? That's rubbish, park up in a town centre you've never been to before, forget where you've left the car, then use the app to NOT find it again! I kid you not this actually happened to me in London many years ago with my old Merc. After a few days down there enjoying life, couldn't for the life of me remember where I'd left the damn thing. Ended up buying a car to get back home.

Windshield wipers are ridiculously expensive and they always want to change the whole thing even though the metal parts are perfectly well. Maybe they are too lazy to replace just the rubber parts or they just want to sell the most expensive. Rubber inserts can be bought cheap on eBay. Thanks, I ended up reading the manual for the newer version than mine, unintentionally to begin with, and saw that it says to hold both buttons on the key at the same time and it will change the door touch option. I then tried this and found it worked on my car even though the manual for my car year doesn't say anything doing this.

Bit the bullet and confirmed I will buy the car. It’s at the dealers, still with the protective tape on it. Collecting it next Wednesday. Had a lengthy test drive and my concerns were overcome - after the Range Rover I thought the seat height would be more like a saloon but it isn’t. It’s not quite as high as the RR but fine to step into. I’m 6’ 2” and there is enough headroom for me to raise the seat and still have plenty of clear headroom. The fit and finish is classic Lexus. I was concerned what the Orage Ultra Suede would be like on my Copper / Black car - having had leather for 20+ years. It really felt prestige and is a good & practical colour. It goes ok with the copper / black externals. My major concern was the range. Having done some research it all made more sense now. Lexus appear to calculate the range shown more realistically than some other manufacturers - they keep some back so even if the range is showing 0 you still have range to get to a charger. Lexus are the only manufacturer warranting that the battery will be no less than 90% capacity after 10 years. When I got in the car (fairly warm day) it was about 80% charged showing 195 miles. Putting the aircon on full blast shrank the range to 160. I have since found out that studies confirm that all EV’s loose between 11% - 17% when the heating or a/c is used. BUT if you precondition the car before driving and use the seat ventilation to cool it doesn’t affect the range. Similarly in the winter if you use the heated seats and radiant heaters after pre-heating then you don’t eat into the real range. Not very helpful if you regularly carry rear seat passengers ! Having learnt you can turn off the speeding bong and others the only snag I found was that the instrument cluster was a bit dark despite the illumination being on max. I found that my ‘reactor lite’ glasses were dark which hasn’t happened in previous cars with tinted windscreen. When I took them off the display was ok. I’ll have a pair of normal specs in the car for just driving. The dealer has been great and matched a very good price for my Range Rover Velar and of course held last years price which is £ 3k below current list. I took the dive to buy the RZ as not least it was available now - I am convinced that the used car / residuals are going to normalise over the next 6 to 9 months and if that happens I would lose a fortune. My px on a 2 year old car is 89% of what I paid, if the residuals normalise the car would probably draw no more than 50% at 3 years old so it would lose me £ 27k over the next 12 months - worth taking a risk with RZ then as I can’t see it losing 40% in the next year. I hope I haven’t bored everyone with this long post. I thought it may be useful to all those waiting for a test drive.

Thanks everyone for your answers . It's put my mind at ease somewhat. It took me by surprise that it failed the hybrid health check but then again it seems the hybrid system is more complicated than I thought . I was fearing the worst to be honest . Hopefully the retest will pass it as Hybrid Healthy after I put up 500 or so miles 👍

App says the car has landed in Bristol, so up to Derby them down to me, I reckon another 10-14 days. that means 3 months from order in Feb.

According to the Haynes manual, the recommended fluid is Toyota ATF Type T-IV. For a drain and refill the capacity is 3.9 litres.

Sadly shows how things have changed. With the gearbox recall on my LS430 in 2005 Lexus Sheffield, collected, left a replacement and returned the car the next day together with flowers and chocolates.

Not had this letter yet. Very annoying particularly when it's issues that should have been addressed prior to launch. The Lexus reputation is being tarnished.
