I’ve moaned about the state of education in this country previously, and you’ve hit one particular nail fairly and squarely on the head there! Speaking with my extended family, and interacting with youngsters through volunteering at my former University, I see one aspect missing these days - context. There seems to be a move towards a single ‘correct’ or ‘valid’ message, from which nobody should deviate. Teaching Elizabeth I simply with lots of references to the evils of colonisation and empire, or Henry VIII as a misogynist tyrant, the Great War trivialised as ‘lions led by donkeys’ and ‘unnecessary slaughter’ - I could go on. Nowhere does there seem to be any appreciation of the context of the times, the simple truth that thought and belief was alien to how we think now. That’s not to say that we shouldn’t teach the evils of the past, far from it. But, and it’s a big but, we need to give our children the appreciation that things have changed and will continue to change, and that reflecting our values onto history is at best problematic and at worst just lazy and ineffective teaching. I appreciate I’m going back some years, but our school made us - MADE US - debate and argue points of view with which we didn’t agree, simply so we could try and appreciate other viewpoints, and that there WERE other views than those we considered to be the consensus of the time.

I was told to expect something in the post by the salesman at Lexus Stoke in approximately a weeks time after collecting the car. It arrived today and now I know why he was taking photos of the car in the hand over/viewing room. Just need a place to hang it but thoughtful I think.

I could not find the right car mats, on lexus car parts website the ones for sale were not the same quality as mine which are a thicker pile and the front ones have lexus chrome badges. Disappointed, I then phoned up the lexus direct parts and lucky for me my exact car mats are available (only £60) so happy that I made the call.

Repeat business is the throbbing heart of most business models. Looking above I suspect they practice it better than most. I find it refreshing for my personal experience which over time has become jaded by the lack of such an interaction.

I'm convinced now that this dealer's family run franchise operation is all about making you want to keep coming back. The salesman said he had worked for Audi for a long time as part of a big group and their policy was to give nothing away.

Hello, My 2010 Lexus Ls600hl starts first time, but upon startup I notice that it is a bit noisy, the revs are about 1.5k and it vibrates little bit. After a minute or so all is well and it is quiet all day and night, is this normal? Is it due to the cold weather, 0 to 2 degrees? No errors, no smoke and drives fine. Not sure if it timing chain rattle, mounts etc Thanks

Fully charged today, with aircon on, showed 38 miles. And seems to be pretty accurate based on my recent local trips.

Actually i did splice it in the reverse camera wiring but for some reason i messed up there and then i tried the new camera to the factory connector and voila a clear picture. My car was a is300h 2013 year. I have attached pictures from another forum

I had the misfortune of having to drive in greater Manchester today. These roads are full of agressive d*ckheads. All the bullying, cut you up, nasty offenders were driving Mercedes ( black ) BMW ( black ) Audi ( RS7 dark grey with two young asian gentlemen in it ) and range rover (matt black with personalised number ) - what a surprise! Taking a generous view, they are probably just victims of overcrowded roads getting frustrated and hating everyone else. A bit like when they crowd rats together in a cage and they all go for each other. But at least the rats don't play stupid finger waving games at each other - Maybe? What a world and why is it full of idiots? I'll just get myself another glass of Aldi premier Cru champagne to calm myself down.

It's swings and roundabouts. I've worked with US and European companies, and travelled to the US and various parts of Europe. Here are a few random observations, based partly on dealings with high level execs at large corporates, or successful entrepreneurs, and partly from visiting family over the last 25 years. Mostly I like the US, but it has it's downsides too. Europeans tend be happier and more chilled out, with a better quality of life. Americans seem more stressed, and will be dealing with routine work at all hours. Met far more European entrepreneurs than US ones, as most of the latter seemed to be employees, albeit senior level. Americans tend to treat negotiation in a confrontational, win at all costs way, while Europeans tend more towards win/win solutions. I found that with Europeans (and even more so Middle Easteners), that you could do a deal on a handshake, leave the contracts to the lawyers, and both parties will understand and honour the spirit of the deal. With American companies one had to examine the contract line by line because, if there was a loophole they could exploit, that would benefit them at your expense, they would have no qualms about using it. The level of service, and hence expectation is far higher in the US. People will complain more readily, and expect results. Somewhat surprisingly, other than in the leisure/entertainment/hospitality sector, this doesn't seem to result in any noticeable improvement in quality. In Europe, people are less likely to complain, as often it only results in a shrug. Things tend to get done quicker in the US, Europe less so. Spain is manana and Greece a day or so after that. They have some strange ideas about freedom. You can own a gun at virtually any age, go to war and get married as a teenager, watch porn at 18, but can neither celebrate nor commiserate any of these things with a beer till you're 21. Strangely they think that anything other than their way is not only socialism, but consists of third world living standards. I once heard an American being genuinely concerned about a move to a Canadian city, because he was worried about basic utlities like water and electricity. On a wider level, both are socialistic, but in different ways. European policy is weighted more towards the individual, with things like holidays, healthcare, employment laws etc. The US heavily subsidises certain corporations and industries, either directly with taxpayer money or through regulation, such as corn, food production, finance, agriculture, aircraft and auto manufacture. This results in certain things like making it harder for smaller businesses and entrepreneurs, as well as reducing consumer choice. Corn syrup appears in virtually all food items, which is why their Coke tastes so bad, and bioethanol in fuel has been an issue for much longer. The US is both a great place to live or visit, with many things to experience and enjoy. The people are mostly friendly and hospitable. It's very much sink or swim though and, if you're a swimmer, life is great but, start to tread water, or sink, not so much, and you're on your own. Oddly, and perhaps as a result of the myth of the American Dream, those either drowning, or most likely to, are just as vociferous about maintaining the status quo as the swimmers.

Hello, Yes I have used the satnavi shop to update the maps on my RX. However mine come on a micro SD card (2016 gen4). I found them very helpful and very cheap. I will be updating again next year when the latest maps come out. Bri

Took a friend from Kent to Essex and back, for him to buy a car (don't ask the make or model!). My LS 400 averaged 32 mpg over 175 miles. He commented what a comfortable car the LS 400 was to ride in! I could not agree with him more!

There may indeed be some kind of connection. It seems that the original Meltis New Berry Fruits - made in Bedfordshire from 1908 - with their unique LIQUID centres, have long ceased production and been replaced by New Berry Fruit Jewels! I have seen various adaptions to either allow a special seat to rotate and drop to make access to a wheelchair beside the care easy or a hoist fitted to a special roof rack which does the same. A man in a wheelchair used to use something like this to go clay pigeon shooting in Cyprus and it allowed him to be completely independent. I don't have a source for this type of adaption but I am sure your local occupational therapy department would be able to help.

I managed to find a mobile welder, he's fabricating the plate and sill repair section tomorrow. I'll post up some progress photo's when he's done. Buying a welder and doing it myself was my last option, fortunately I found a man who can.

This security for employees is not only in France but thesame in most European countries. Germany, Benelux, Spain, Scandinavia etc. Only thing setting France apart is they take management hostage! If the company is successfull and profitable but changes course so no longer need you or your department fine, but they will have to to pay no questions asked. And yes this could be expensive but all will be calculated in the total reorganisation package. Whats the issue.

I think if Insurance companies were really ripping people off then their return on equity capital would be noticeably higher than it is. The unpalatable, but less dramatic facts are they are subject to inflation like everyone else and they are being impacted by unexpectedly high costs via new tech costs and of course claims for theft etc. No angels, but rip offs, I really doubt it holds up.

Having followed much the same route, NX - retirement -UX, I can say that although the UX is lovely and the driver's area does not seem much smaller, overall I wish I'd stuck with an NX. Boot space is restrictive and the rear seat drop is now a regularly used feature. I am thinking that when we go to one car in 3 or 4 years time then the LBX may seem a logical step.

If size is not important then I am sure you will like the car. It does feel very much like a Lexus, the doors shut with a nice thud and it has the e-latch handles like the new NX so it feels very up to date, especially with the new digital dashboard. It certainly feels much more than a Yaris Cross in a posh frock which I was pleased about. As I said above, I will be interested to see one in full production trim and build to see how it compares.

My RAV4 plug-in was 5.8 to 60. I thought the UX would disappoint but I used full bore for the first time tonight (over 5k miles on it now) and it impressed. After all, that used to be hot hatch territory (without that front wheel scrabbling) not that long ago 👍.

Sorry for delay in replying. Previously I had aRx400 and like you say The disc player ( I believe it was 6) was in the boot. The 2013 Rx 450 uses the single cd unit in the dash and takes the dealer about 2hours to load the full 5 discs.. Lexus Nottingham had to see my vehicle to ensure they ordered correct version, I do not think the usb stick option is available on early Rx 450's. At least I was not offered it. Hope that helps

I know the one! I don't think that you can drive to it anymore unless you're in a taxi or delivery van.

Finally I got an email from my dealer for a delivery date as next week. it took 1 year 4 months

Had my doors fixed yesterday. Prior to that I had to use warm water on two occasions in the last few weeks. I put the warm water in a flask and took it with me in case it froze again at my destination.

All four doors frozen this morning. Warm water and patience was the highly unsatisfactory solution. I have my car booked in early next month for replacement handles and the dealership said I can use the manual unlock (using the blade key in the fob) as a temporary solution.

after having no issues last year I’ve finally been caught by the frozen handle problem. As I’m popping to the dealer today to discuss the fuel filler flap not opening again I’ll add this to the list. Car has been in the dealership almost as often as a Range Rover now! not impressed with this iteration of car but looking at competitors out there at least Lexus seem to be doing something about things, once you convince the dealership of the problem

My washer nozzles are frozen but I know that my washer fluid was nowhere near being strong enough to stand the frost so on next top up I'll be putting in a winter concentration. I called my local Lexus dealer about the stuck petrol cap so they're going to order the replacement part for that too - something to do with the spring apparently. Lexus Norway must be busy at the moment.

Coldest night of the year so far but all doors opened easily having had the revised handles fitted.

Also had issues with not being able to see through the windscreen as the washers were frozen. My old Volvo had heated washers but don't think the NX has.

The frozen door locks are known on the NX350/450. The rubber pressure pad freezes and does not then function. Ask the dealers to order and fit the replacement door handles which Lexus have developed to overcome the issue. Mine were ordered last week. If they sayvthey know nothing about it tell them to read the bulletins issued by Lexus.

Ha ha. So far the charging cover and boot have remained fully accessible.

Hi Matt - Lovely looking LS400! I had one a few years back, sold it but I really regret it. I should have kept it 😞 Love the wheels too!

I had trouble this week getting in due to frozen handles (same as last year). Luckily I went into Lexus Bolton for car to be serviced today. I mentioned the handles and said there was a bulletin about replacements and was told they would check. I collected my car tonight and result. They have ordered the updated handles for my vehicle. Booked in for next week for fitting subject to parts arriving.

From previous post I have had the door freeze issue on my 2022 NX350h, on annual service in September I asked the service department about any solutions, and there is:- ref Bulletin BE-00971L-TME Parts were ordered, and I have had 4 new door handles fitted - so far all OK

Does this sound familiar to anyone? When I drive over slightly uneven roads I hear what wouldn't necessarily be called a knock, but it's the only way I can describe it. It's not loud, just annoying. Its not one knock but continuous over that kind of surface. Definitely coming from front drivers side. I'm booked in somewhere on Wednesday but thought I'd ask in case others have had it. Maybe I'd say it's more of a muffled rattle. I can't feel it through the steering. Thanks

I've the same problem with my 2011 CT200h after those heavy raining days in Southern California and the good news is: I've it fixed ! Just a few easy steps. Open your hood, remove the fuse box cover, full out the Radio fuse ( check It, make sure It wasn't burned) spray the WD 40 into the fuse connection (you might need to reinsert and full it out couple of times to get rid of the burned spots) Turn on the car ignition ( press It twice) reinsert the Radio fuse into the connection and wait for the system to reboot and that's It ! You're good to go. Everything should go back to normal ! Meanwhile, the Lexus dealer asked me for thousand of dollars to replace the system !!! SCREW THEM ! OK, good luck and have fun folks.
