  3. I would have likely done the deal had they moved £300-400 on either the NX, the part ex or some accessories. Was a good shout above about trying some complimentary servicing, that was going to be my next tack, but they’ve ended up doing me a big favour in the end. Too greedy. I’ll be dealing with the service and parts staff from now on and they are great in there, they’ve already sorted me out for some bits for our UX (extras not issues)

  5. Hello, Before you purchased your Lexus. What other car/s did you choose from and what was the reason/s they were no good Mine were Rbage Rover Vogue SW (SDV8) reliability, running costs, security. Bentley Flying Spur (w12) reliability, running costs, depreciation. Audi A8L(4.2 tdi), purchase cost, hard to find one with good spec. So I chose (wisely) and bought the Lexus LS600hl which also cost me only half my budget!! Happy days.

  6. For completeness sake (and probably not relevant for the topic starter), you also get this error message when you move the shifter to D or R before the hybrid system shows 'Ready' on the dash.

  7. After a couple of partial fills to keep the fuel at around 50% of capacity, I've filled up with fuel up to the top today. Top to top I've done 2691 miles and have achieved 56 mpg overall for this mileage. I've added together all fuel used in this period + cost of electricity converted to current fuel cost per gallon, then divided by miles driven. Overall using the same method from new (I'm now on 15286 miles) I've achieved 62.98 mpg. This is not fully accurate as the cost of fuel has fluctuated over the last 21 months but it wont be too far off.

  8. I’ve literally just got back from buying one from another dealer instead. £2000 less for a year newer car, 10,000 less miles, better condition, and identical exterior colour and interior trim! FSH. They also gave me more for my part ex than Lexus offered. I had initially skipped it thinking the VED would tip £40,000 being a year newer but the dealer checked on Gov.uk and confirmed £170. I will ring Lexus on Tuesday when they are back open to politely explain that I’ve gone elsewhere.

  9. All UK NX are all wheel drive & have 240bhp so they are good at towing, fitting a genuine oem tow bar on the nx involves removing & cutting part of the rear bumper out, crash bar deletion, removal of the kick sensor if it has one, strip down of the boot floor & rear quarter panel to run the wiring & ecu fitting. If it wasnt done right it could affect the warranty & you wont know if the independant did it right/properly or not.

  10. The old adage capital rich income poor comes to mind. You don't actually have to even be income poor not to be able to support running a Bentley. Although looking at cars in the market including Bentleys it's a very frequent sight to see cars that have been owned by people who could obviously afford to buy them, but basically could not afford to maintain them properly. Autotrader is teeming with them.

  11. John at least it's now over and done with now and a compromise reached and sorted, in my younger days I was always willing and ready to fight the system as best as I could, in my old age I take a more pragmatic approach to life and things in general lol 😆

  12. Hello, I am not an expert and so this my opinion only... As I own both the Ls600hl and a Bentley Continrntal Gt, just tthought I would do a quick comparison (yes I agree it is a bit unfair as the Bentley has two turbos). So we are looking at the Lexus v8 (438bhp) and the Bentley W12 (550 bhp) Weight the Lexus is 2.8 tonnes and the Bentley is 2.5 tonnes. 00-60 for the Lexus I would say 6.0s and Bentley 4.8s. Torque I don't have at hand, but think the Bentley has more. So performance the Bentley is the clear winner? NO, if we take the two turbos off the Bentley I would say it would be a draw, so Lexus are right by saying the LS600 can compete directly with a v12. Also I would like to talk about real feel. Both cars are heavy barges and for me you don't feel you are doing fast speeds as they are so well insulated, especially the Lexus. However. At 69mph or slightly above the Lexus feels floaty (even in sport mode) and the Bentley is very stable indeed. Overtaking wise but cars are very very fast especially 50mph upwards. Stopping, the Bentley has huge brakes and they feel much better than the regenerative ones on the Lexus. Mpg the Lexus is 17 to 30 mpg and Bentley is 7 to 20mpg, so a big difference in town and motorway (and going to Europe and back). So both cars are super luxury cars. One is made to tour Europe and back elegantly and the other is to take on the worlds finest luxury cars. So what do I like.. In the Bentley I love the power. sound of the W12 and the tiptronic gearbox. In the Lexus I like the drive (lower speeds) and effortless acceleration. They are two completely different cars,in the sense that the Lexus is discrete and dependable. The Bentley is louder and has more presence and occasion I am a petrol head and love the W12, silky smooth but potent. The V8 aldo snarls but rarely. But if it is one car and I want to smie every time. then would have to be the Lexus! Can't stand waiting with a broken down car.

  13. The Continental Flying Spur would be a more direct comparison. Practicality is another factor where Lexus wins I imagine the rear is pretty cramped in the Bentley, but Bentley Continental certainly wins on the looks.

  14. I can imagine everything will become low displacement petrol turbo hybrids in the future…. Never driven a Continental but they have certainly grown on me. I’d consider owning one if I wasn’t terrified of it breaking down. Particularly like the facelifts and newer shaped ones…. How has reliability been??

  16. w12 ftw, they are endangered species, I imagine at some point in the near future the government will find ways to make it very difficult to own such a thing.

  19. Yep, sounds like the 12v battery is on the way out. Book it into a Lexus dealer to get it replaced. It’s not the sort you can buy off the shelf from Halfords. There are cases where replacing the battery has blown the radio so best let Lexus do it. It won’t be covered under warranty. Take it for a drive and don’t leave it in neutral with the radio on. Happy New Year Paul

  25. My goodness. Not easy at all.I think it is clearly passion that comes first. The issue with parts is a difficult one. Even for Lexus some parts I asked the dealer and thry said back order, which basically means they can't get it! However, this is a risk, but there is an ever increasing supply of parts from the Middle East. BTW I had the Legacy estate with the boxer engine, Brill car especially in the winter. Worked in Horsham, West Sussex and lived on a farm, sadly the field mice took a liking to the engine so much so they started chewing away some of the wires!

  26. BTW it makes life a bit easier if the Japanese car has a UK equivalent. Thus spares and replacements are a bit easier to find but still pricey. Also remembered that the speedo change to mph was not just a setting on the trip but actually not available, so a replacement speedo was needed, but could not find one anyway. He has had to keep the Kph and put stickers on the 30, 50, 70 points.

  27. We used these when transporting two cats. It kept them calm and no side effects. Each species has different kinds of pheromones, released under different circumstances to achieve various effects. Nursing dogs, for example, release a special kind of comforting pheromone to let their offspring know they are safe—and that’s exactly the pheromone that’s effective in calming an anxious dog. This pheromone, termed dog appeasing pheromone (DAP), has been produced synthetically. The synthetic version is available in several formats, including room diffusers, spray, edible treats, and wearable collars. In scientific studies, DAP has proven effective in treating separation anxiety. It can also be used to help dogs stay calm through anxiety-inducing situations such as thunderstorms and fireworks displays. These are flexible and can be stuffed into a back seat including a superimposed dog picture!?

  28. My son has now bought two subaru cars - Impreza and Legacy. Both cars were immaculate and rust free and great value for money. He does not regret it. But the old issues are still there. His later car ( Legacy - with the best 2.0 turbo impreza motor) has proven difficult to convert to English spec. I believe this is due to the fact that all the electronics/ alarms/systems/audio/ speed limiter/ pollution control reducing BHP etc. are inextricably linked to the main ECU computer and would need VERY expensive total replacement even if it were actually possible. The Insurance and resale values are still problematic as they have always been.

  29. We use a dog hammock for our Cocker Spaniel in my IS 300h - this covers the whole back seat (it's waterproof and very tear resistant). It has a restraint that fixes to his harness (shouldn't connect it to a collar though) and plugs into the seat belt fitting so he can't get to the front of the car or out until we release him. Do a search on Amazon etc for car dog hammock and see if this would be an alternative.

  31. Yes I would agree. You don't need to be rich to buy a Bentley. Running the damn thing is another matter and the 8mpg, well that is the last of ypur concerns

  32. I went to a friends 60th birthday party in 2019 in Linden and was followed the last 5 miles to my hotel by another LS430. It was German registered and we chatted for about 30 mins after he reassured me he wasn't a weirdo. 🤣 He had never seen another in Germany. He bought his silver/grey 05 in Austria in about 2008 and it was in really good condition when I saw it. I mentioned this forum but he said he didn't use the internet.

  33. Sorry to hear about the funeral - it's often at times of great stress that we get ripped off like this - I've been there myself - hope you can move on from this now it's paid and you at least had the reduced rate which at a minimum was small positive in the outcome.

  34. I got that too btw... Didn't like it and ended up returning it. I mean its ok but honestly i didn't see myself using anything other than google maps/android auto. Everything else like ability to play spotify etc the car already has via Bluetooth and i much preferred the higher resolution and AMOLED display of my phone, it didn't make sense at £450ish. Id rather save and use that money when i need to upgrade my phone.

  35. Sounds a bit obvious, for which I apologise, but have you given permission for the car to access your data? The request should pop up and you just click yes I think. On Android anyway.

  37. Thanks Kevin, I get that now. The Lexus installed Nextbase 380's rear camera is a similar shape but clearly smaller whereas my GW522 rear camera is very small and shaped like a ball and attaches to a small mounting by a magnet. Your rear view unit is better for mounting flat to the rear shelf. Jeff, the plug and play rear dash cam is specific to the 322GW, 422GW, 522GW and 622GW front dash cams so the rear camera doesn't have a specific part code. As long as you use any of the 4 models I quoted then the camera will fit. There is also the " cabin view camera" which I guess is favoured by taxi drivers etc who need to record what's going on inside their cars. £69 delivered to your door and no sticky pad mounts as it just clicks into the main body of my camera a 522GW.

  39. I bought my 460 from the Lexus dealer in Breda in 2013. It had been the garage demonstrator then the MD's personal transport, so it had been very well looked after. Cars, in general, are in good condition over here - second-hand prices are pretty high. The conditions of the roads has, in my opinion, a lot to do with it. In a recent survey, the roads in Holland and Switzerland were considered to be the best in the world. The Louwman museum in The Hague is really great. I've been there a few times when friends and relatives are visiting. As I said, the 400 on exhibit is the first one sold in Holland.

  40. Had a look at the museum from dutchie01's link he provided. It looks like a great day out, especially if there's an LS400 in there. Must have been fun getting a 460 over in the Netherlands. How was the experience? What condition are they in over there in general. I've seen frequently in the UK that some people are buying them for cheap easy power and so some are getting a but neglected sadly which is terrible.

  41. Absolutely brilliant 🤩. Just the other day I was at BP in London and got approached by a Lebanese man calling me "boss" and complimenting the car, wanting to look at it. He told me about his late Father's Merc in Lebanon that the family still keeps locked away. I think he said it was an old E class. Even at Newland's Corner I was approached by a couple of young JDM fanatics who complimented the car and asked me loads of questions about it. Can't go anywhere really 😉 My Dad actually has a gold 430 but it's enjoyed occasionally, rest of the time pampered in the garage. 20 yrs later it still smells like the day we got it. I've always known about the huge love for the LS and Lexus in general in the Middle East and an ophthalmologist from somewhere over there actually told me at an appointment that oftentimes, Lexus are inherited and left as legacies in the family over in UAE. Love the F16 nickname, the engines in these are so utterly brilliant that you just don't realise the speed that you've got to. Best feeling in the world.

  44. I completely agree but we’re kind of stuck with what’s on offer - either use cheap visible deterrents which can be removed with grinders etc, or fit immobilisers and so on which will theoretically stop the car being stolen but don’t show any signs they’ve been fitted. I suppose belt and braces is the best option. The perfect solution : Lexus remove their vehicles from the top ten of the stolen car market. Recall all affected cars, add immobiliser or wholesale change of the canbus system (retro fit of immobiliser is probably cheaper and quicker). Simples. Thieves realise the cars anre unstealable, and move onto something else. Value and image of used Lexus increases, dealers can sell more, owners can get sensibly priced insurance again. Downside : forum traffic goes down by several percentage points! Over to you Lexus.

  45. Mileage now over 17000 so time to refuel. Total consumption since the last refill has worked out at a very satisfactory 73.66mpg. This is arrived at via actual petrol purchased plus the cost of electrical recharges (power cost converted to latest price per gall of E10). Power is supplied on the Octopus Go tariff of off-peak charging. Using a standard tariff the result would be 49.26. Certainly proving to be more economical fuel wise than my previous NX300h.

  46. This is very sad John, because I seem to recall that you're the one who said this was the worst car you'd owned? Which variant is it? Maybe the SE-L what with the dipping mirrors and the auto-tailgate. 🤔 Mine's the SR, next to basic, same year as yours but doesn't have those fancy extras. I've also had mine for 12 months and I'm very happy with it ... but maybe you don't want to hear that! 🤨 Sorry that you've still got issues but not much I can suggest other than hang on in there and I hope things improve. 🤞
