  1. New car day today! Usual exemplary handover by Lexus Edinburgh. Fully charged, full tank of fuel and TWO KEYS! 🔑 😁. Second key issued in a presentation case! Rubber floor mats no longer part of the optional protection pack but Lexus Edinburgh added these. Mud flaps still unavailable so these will be fitted once they are back in stock along with locking wheel bolts.

  4. I would like to think so given how pricey they are. Almost all dashcams even the cheap chinese ones offer a parking mode where it takes images / snapshots at fixed intervals and records in case it detects shake / motion in the car. But for parking mode to work you need to hardwire your cam to a fuse thats always on. Detailed instructions from a previous thread can be found here I installed a chinese one a few months ago but power it through the cigarette lighter. Managed to hide the wires well enough so they're not visible.

  6. Why, James? If by that you mean that it is only active when the ignition’s on, then you might want to reconsider that. I’ve always wired my dashcams so that they are in standby mode when the ignition is off. After all, your car is just as likely to be attacked - if not more so - when it’s parked and unattended. I have a BlackVue and their website is full of clips catching cars damaged in car parks and attempted break-ins.

  7. The thing is with the capacitors in the ECU over time they do become thermally sensitive and their internal resistance increases (ESR). Greater resistance results in more heat so the capacitors then begin to swell up. Their construction is foil, paper and liquid all sealed inside by a rubber bung where the leads emerge, due to internal pressure build up the seal eventually ruptures resulting in a leak of the liquid (electrolyte) which being corrosive then attacks the copper print on the board and the capacitance continues to fall below its nominal value (i.e. it doesn’t do its job anymore). This could explain why everything seems OK when cold but when warmed up the problems start due to heat also building up inside the ECU. Another issue is “dry joints” on the soldering again due to heating and cooling over the years. If you want me to take a look at it for you P.M me, I’m a retired electronics tech and have repaired quite a few ECUs for other members.

  8. You don't need a warranty until it is 10 years old if you start having it serviced by Lexus. You get a rolling free I year Relax warranty with every service up to 10 years or 100,000k. Also up to 15 years on the Hybrid battery with service. Mine gets serviced just before its delivery anniversary date so I will get 11 years Relax warranty. The advantage with it being serviced while under warranty you don't get loaded with dubious add on work that may be needed or not, like some service providers.

  10. Hi Phil, Good to see you’re still watching. Can you remember which pads are on at the moment? Reason I ask is I have millimetres to spare in the garage getting the Celsior in and the door fully closed, I put a couple of wooden blocks on the floor in front of the tyres to avoid hitting the end wall. I have to creep very slowly but at such a low speed the brakes are either on or off accompanied with a “ grunching” sound when released and a sudden lurch forward. In other words I can’t touch the blocks smoothly. After a bit of digging this appears to be a common issue with modern brake pads so I was wondering if another make would make a difference. The car is till running great with 3 advisory free MOTs since I bought it from you although I did have to spend £16.00 on it last week for a split passenger side wiper blade which by coincidence were also Bosch branded. Still not clocked up 100K 😀

  15. I went to the dealer today. Checked it over and said they'd had several people in with the same and similar issues, but only Lexus models, not Toyota. They believe the last "over the air " update from Lexus has somehow corrupted the Multimedia system - but not affecting every vehicle and not always the same fault - some had Navigation issues as an example. It's been escalated to Lexus to release a fix and they have promised to ring me once a fix is ready and either have me back in to install it, or advise if it can be done over the air. Will update as and when I get it resolved.

  16. Had this a few years ago on mine. There is a thread about it on here somewhere where have also reported my problem. Mine would stop in any position on the screen and would only work manually. Lexus wanted £85 just to investigate. I bought a couple of denso relays off eBay for about £6. Exchanged the intermittent one and not had a problem since. denso relay 90987-04004 The relays are located below the brake fluid reservoir. Under the black cover are 4 relays 2 for the wipers and 2 for the abs I think. The relays are available from lexuspartsdirect but they are expensive on there so you might want to look around as they are a common part. You’ll only need one I would think as it would be strange for both to be faulty. You also could swap the relays round to see if it cures the fault but creates one in the other wiper mode. Bob

  17. Excellent result. Drove 40 miles with new bits on. Less rattle, tighter drive and brakes feel much better. I ended up paying £1060 all in. Lexus quote £2700. This mpg is as high as is achievable over a 40 mile cross country run.

  19. Is it plastic? I dont remember now. If it is, there is some stuff that's incredible called Cerakote trim coating that if applied on a clean, grease-free surface, will bond with the plastic to restore it. I used it on the wheel arches of my former car (honda civic 9th gen) and it was great, and very long-lasting (still there a year after when I sold the car) Apply it to pastic, not rubber though. https://www.cerakote.co.uk/shop/cerakote-coatings/auto-home/trim-coat-kit-1-vehicle-kit-r-gtkit1004/

  20. What a relief! thanks to the OP for clarifying! 💙 It's a shame that this is all it would have taken the designers/engineers to avoid such a wave of thefts and disappointments (and insurane hikes!) for so many people Next time someone at work tells you "design is ancillary/secondary" think of this... (yes im a designer myself)

  22. Exactly this. Typically you would hardwire it only if you wanted it on all the time. Else most people just use the cigarette lighter - that switches on with ignition.

  24. Hello Folks, I hope you are all well! I'm Igor from Notomoto Co. It has been a fair while since I've been into forum's. Years! So here we go... I never been part of any Owners Club, however I'm giving it a go. Purchased my 1st ever Lexus (and Japanese car) at the end of 2022, Its a Black 2006 Lexus IS250 SE that had only 41.000 miles on the clock. I was extremely surprised that it was so low mileage, and so cheap from the get go. It has some weird headlight modification made by the previous owner where he removed the interior mask and left everything exposed, therefor they now leak. (He claimed he wanted to do something different 🙄) I now need to replace them with the IS-F or something similar or OEM. The car initially was running on Nankank's NSR Semi-Slicks. It's currently on Nankang NS2'. Wheels: 18x10 (255/35R18) & 18x8.5 Rotiform RSE's (225/40R18) Suspension: Tein Street Advance Adjustable Coilover's. (It does change A LOT from stock drivability improves it considerably whilst being comfortable) Performance: Stainless Steel Dual Exhaust Non Resonated. Cosmetic: Rear middle tail lights facelift to 2010, front bumper lip spoiler, roof small spoiler, boot spoiler, Window Rain Guards. There are quite a few things I still want to do and improve, we will see how that goes. Well hope to eventually get acquainted we you all if there is a meet or gatherings, and to learn more about Lexus in general. My best regards, Igor.

  26. To test electrical drains you will need an ammeter with ranges of 100mA and 10A. Disconnect the battery -ve clamp, connect the -ve wire of the ammeter to the battery post, connect the +ve wire of the ammeter to the battery clamp. DO NOT attempt to start the car like this. That WILL destroy your ammeter. Wait 10 mins for the car to settle into "parked" mode. With the ignition switch still off, see how much current is being drawn. Anything over 5mA is too much but if it is flattening a 70AH battery in 2 days, then it will probably read over 500mA Now you need to start pulling fuses and checking to see if the drain drops below 50mA. It is laborious work but is made easier if someone else can keep an eye on the ammeter for you. Once you figure out what is drawing the power, you can investigate that. From your descriptions, chances are it is the Amplifier that blew and that is what is sucking all the power out of your battery.

  27. Just as an update, Admiral are now insuring the Original edition. I have sadly already taken out an insurance policy with Tesco Bank Box to collect the car (it is lovely but I didn't take any pictures yet!), but I will be cancelling that to switch to the Admiral policy as soon as possible - £600 cheaper with no black box.

  28. In addition to driving smoothly there are two things that may help. Firstly, accelerate up to speed, say 30 mph, then come off the throttle so the EV light comes on and then lightly press the accelerator again to maintain your speed without forcing the petrol engine to start up again. This makes use of electrical running more than if you just kept your foot constantly down. Secondly, when braking glance at the energy meter and watch the meter go into the charge area - don’t let it get to the end and stop because at this point the mechanical brake start supplying additional braking effort - you want to brake gently where possible so all braking is done via electrical energy recovery.

  43. We take the issue of Toyota and Lexus vehicle theft very seriously. We are continuously developing technical solutions to make our vehicles more secure, to help reduce the risk of theft. An enhanced security hardware system was introduced in October 2021 on the latest models targeted by criminals. Since which, we have seen a significant drop in thefts of those models. For older models, we endeavour to create solutions that can offer enhanced protection to our customers. Following significant investments by Toyota GB, in line with that of other vehicle manufacturers, newly developed official Toyota and Lexus security hardware components will very soon be available to fit to those targeted models registered before October 2021. Following communication from Lexus in the coming weeks, owners should contact their local dealer to arrange free of charge fitment. Customers can already speak to their local dealer about the fitment of a protective plate to block access to the vehicle’s electronics. This is a nationwide customer care offering. As a vehicle manufacturer, we can never completely eliminate the risk of vehicle theft. This is an industry-wide issue, concerning all vehicle manufacturers and affecting the most popular models first. In order to further reduce the theft risk, we regularly collaborate and share information with insurance associations, police and law enforcement authorities, theft prevention experts and other key stakeholders around the world. This enables us to understand new threats and techniques used by thieves and develop more secured systems. Alongside our efforts, we urge those authorities to focus on reducing the number of thefts. We would also like to see action taken that leads to the end to the online sale of devices used by criminals to steal cars without using the car keys, as these devices serve no purpose other than a criminal one. How do thieves manage to steal cars this way? The thieves disconnect part of the headlamp and use a malicious device to send signals to the control CAN bus (the communication ‘backbone’ within a car) that allow the doors to open and the car to start without the key or remote control. Thieves need to: Purchase a relatively expensive rogue device (third-party ‘emergency start’ device which costs around £2,500 – £4,000 each) Gain physical access to the vehicle’s CAN bus communication wires for an uninterrupted period. The third-party ‘emergency start’ device has the capability to initiate an exploit in the following manner: Once connected to the vehicle’s CAN bus communication wires, the third-party ‘emergency start’ device can send a prioritised series of CAN signals to bypass the vehicle’s security and immobiliser systems, which could allow a thief to unlock the doors and turn the vehicle’s ignition ON. The third-party ‘emergency start’ device is then disconnected. At this point a thief can enter the vehicle and start the car without the key What is Lexus doing to prevent these types of attacks? Lexus takes the issue of car theft very seriously. We are continuously developing technical solutions to make our vehicles more secure to help reduce the risk of theft. In the UK market, an enhanced security hardware was introduced in October 2021 on the latest versions of the models that had previously been targeted by criminals. Since then, we have seen a significant drop-off in terms of successful thefts of those models. For older models we endeavour to create solutions that can offer enhanced protection to our customers. We cannot divulge the precise nature of the imminent security enhancement; should we do so we risk offering information into the public domain that could be of interest to criminal parties. The intention is to make the security enhancement available to all vehicles where a countermeasure is available. In October 2021 (introduction of NG NX), a new security platform started to be rolled out. There are no reports of theft using the CAN bus injection method on any model with the new platform. What models are known to be targeted by this issue and are newer models affected? The model primarily targeted is the Lexus RX Gen 4. Other models have also been targeted. Which Lexus models can be fitted with the enhanced security feature? It can be fitted to previous generation RX, NX, plus ES, LC, LS, RC, GS, UX and UXe Which models are affected by year? Lexus models Affected years/months Lexus LC / LC-C 2017/03 – 2024/03 Lexus RC 2017/03 – 2024/03 Lexus RX / RX L 450h 2015/10 – 2022/10 Lexus ES 2018/10 – 2024/02 Lexus GS / GS-F 2015/11 – 2020/11 Lexus NX 2017/09 – 2021/10 Lexus LS 2017/10 – 2022/09 Lexus UX / UXe 2018/10 – 2023/12 When did Lexus first become aware of the vulnerability in the security system? It is not so much vulnerability of the security systems but more so the growing rise in criminal gangs targeting vehicles for ‘cannibalisation’ and / or complete theft. Instances appear to have been rising significantly from 2019-2020. There are many factors involved and at a global level. This includes parts of the world experiencing parts shortage which results in targeted thefts to supply vehicles and/or parts sent to countries experiencing trade restrictions. When is the enhanced security upgrade going to be available and will it be free of charge? Exact timings are still to be confirmed. We anticipate being able to advise the Lexus Centre network with full details before the end of April 2024. The required enhancement needs to be carried out at a Lexus Centre. Costs are under review and customers may incur a nominal charge. Are new models such as the LBX targeted by thieves? While no car can be considered 100% immune to criminal intent, more recent models are equipped with enhanced security systems aimed at deterring CAN bus type thefts. Given that the rise in this type or car theft has been known for several years in other countries and is growing in the UK why wasn’t I told about this? Lexus takes the issue of car crime very seriously. To protect customers’ vehicles our approach is not to disclose our vehicle theft analysis data. The sharing of information could enable thieves to find ways to circumvent anti–theft technologies or make some models particularly attractive to some thieves and unnecessarily vulnerable to attack. Why are Lexus owners not being invited to install protective plates to their vehicles and why were they only supplied to London Centres? Lexus offers a free of charge VPP (Vehicle Protection Plate) to any RX450h customer. Every Lexus Centre across the UK has access to this part. Parts were issued to London Centres in the first instance in line with where the demand has occurred, but all Centres can order the VPP. The strategy is however, to focus attention not to the roll-out of the VPP but to a sophisticated vehicle enhancement. What is the countermeasure and the plan moving forwards? We are continuously developing technical solutions to make our vehicles more secure and reduce the risk of theft. An enhanced security hardware was introduced in October 2021 on the latest versions of the models that had previously been targeted by criminals. Since then, we have seen a significant drop-off in terms of successful thefts of those models. Also we are able to supply and fit a VPP (Vehicle Protection Plate) to targeted RX models We endeavour to make available another solution that can offer enhanced protection. Details will follow in the coming weeks. This will be communicated to the Lexus Centre network, which will also be responsible for fitting the enhanced security solution. Why is there no recall for vehicles susceptible to the CAN bus attack? Recall announcements in the UK are guided by very specific guidelines as drawn up by Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). To qualify as a recall, the issue must relate to a safety or thermal type issue where there is potential for injury as a result of vehicle manufacture or component failure. Only in these such circumstances can a recall be announced. In recall circumstances, the DVSA will provide manufacturers access to ownership records for purpose of communication. Instances of theft do not trigger a recall. Will Lexus pay for damage caused by an attempted theft? No. This will need to be addressed by the customer and the vehicle insurers. While we understand theft or attempted theft can be highly upsetting and, in some cases, a costly experience, in such instances customers are first and foremost victims of crime. Lexus does not cover costs associated with criminal activity either under the terms of the warranty or as goodwill. What is the position with insuring affected models? As a manufacturer, we stay close to Lexus Insurance colleagues and indeed all motor insurers. We are aware that in many cases, insurance premiums might have increased as a direct result of vehicle crime. We need to refer you to your insurer for further comment. https://mag.lexus.co.uk/lexus-uk-statement-on-vehicle-theft

  44. Delighted, that once again apart from a couple of wiper blades the 2014 passed the MOT with no advisories and no additional service costs. I just have to login to DVLA and get the free car tax done now. The service dept also informed me that because the car is not 10 yrs old for another 3 weeks, the service gives me Relax warranty cover for another full year. They also confirmed my 5 year old battery condition was adequate in spite of my concerns over the low voltage displayed. So all in all a cheap year of less than £100 apart from the service contract plan payments. Lets see what the next service contract looks like.

  48. I don't find the CT that harsh, mines a 2017 as well. I hear it was worse in the original release modes up to the change in 2014. It's relatively harsher than the Avensis I had (but it's smaller and 'sportier'). It's nowhere near as hard as a 2017 DS3 Prestige I owned also with 17" low profile tyres from factory. That thing on a rough surface road would shake your fillings out! I reckon it's the perfect compromise from being too rolly and soft like the Avensis was, versus being overly sporty with zero comfort like the DS3 was. Have it checked out, in case there is something wore out in yours or broken that might be making it excessively harsh? That's a possibility
    1 point
  49. Are you sure you own a CT and a Yaris? The CT is globally acknowledged to have a harsh ride, and a Yaris is globally acknowledged to have a comfortable ride, and certainly not a harsh ride. If you find the CT to be a smooth ride and not harsh, either your suspension is broken or you’ve got an incredibly meaty backside.
