For sale is my 2017 Lexus LC500 V8. The car is immaculately presented throughout with Full Lexus Service History - the last service which was a major service was in 08/2023 at Lexus Leeds. Well equipped by default - heated and cooled full leather seats, heated steering, lane keeping, radar cruise etc - the car was also spec'd with HUD. 2 Previous Owners I purchased the car 2 years ago with 28967 miles in 2021 and car has been my 2nd car - garaged and maintained obsessively - paintwork is excellent - there are some stone chips on the front less than 1mm and only one other chip which measures 4mm but paintwork is excellent - touchless washed when possible, DI rinsed - has been waxed twice with Fusso Wax 99 and topped up every few months - only run on Shell 99 Octane. Alloys are in excellent condition - no scuffs or marks. Registered on 01/09/2017. Low mileage at 32500. Lexus Relax Warranty until 1/9/2027 - so 3.5years. Very Low Tax - about £15 per month. Car will have nearly full 12mth MOT and if serviced at Lexus Leeds next service - it will be a minor - included FOC. All Bridgestone Turanza tyres - these are the OEM tyre specification - are measured at approximately 4.5 to 5mm all round. The car has a professional rear window tint - just personal preference and can be removed. Well after a month of ownership I’ve decided that bought wisely (and with the help of my Forum Friends) these are incredible value for money. Pound for pound smiles I don’t think they can be beaten. I wanted a car that made me want to drive anywhere and everywhere …… not just to get from A to B but to enjoy the experience of getting there. Im one very happy SC430 owner.

Dressed up the slam panel with a fresh coat of satin black, also stripped off all the brackets and painted them, then reassembled with my obsession of black plastic caps on all the bolt heads….I really need to get out more ! 😄😄 10mm plastic caps can be found on eBay 👍🏻👍🏻

I did have a look at the LBX the other day - the Tacumi variant. Ride height nothing special for sure. I think for real Lexus quality you need to look at the UX upwards. I remember the Mercedes A class didn’t feel much like a Mercedes back in the day. Same applies here I think.

You are right to test drive both. I doubt the Toyota will have the “quality” feel of the Lexus but should still be good. The increased ride height and narrower body might well be the clincher for many. Coming from a Skoda Yeti I really felt that the LBX was low with less visibility than I’m used to, not a deal breaker but concerning nevertheless. Still going to take an extended road test but now looking at alternatives as well. Finally seat comfort was so so, though I think that maybe because in a lower car your legs are straighter rather than more naturally “bent” as in a higher seating position SUV. My passenger remarked on that aspect particularly.

Just upped the mileage allowance on the classic insurance policy from 5000 to 7500. Still comes in under £400 for the year. I will drive this thing!

I have to say that the Lexus dealer in Exeter, Snows, treated me very differently from John's experience. Second key handed over along with locking wheel bolts fitted, coffee and biscuits for me the missus and the dog and a nice chat with the charming receptionist! Made arrangement to have the CANBUS theft protection plate fitted, but in the event it transpired that this was already taken care of during manufacture.

It was the case with the old app and probably still the case that not all services were available straight away. In my case, my dealer had set up my email address with Lexus HQ prior to collection so the car and app could be linked when I picked the car up. All the services were fully working in 3 or 4 days.

I will give my brackets the full works then.

The slam panel I done in satin and the radiator brackets in gloss👍🏻 I guarantee the rad brackets will rust again only answer is to buy new…for me enjoy the challenge 😉

Since I had the boot interior out looking for a water leak (now fixed), it seemed a good time to sort out the broken parking sensors. Pulled out the original dealer sensor kit and fitted one I’ve had at home for ages . I managed to pull the new wiring through the bumper holes by taping it to the old wiring and pulling it into boot. once tested and all good, I refitted the whole boot interior , also tested roof still folds away . parking sensors are black but so close to the Windsor blue, I’m happy with it 👍🏻

One of your most sensible decisions ever …… absolutely no point having a fab car that one’s afraid to use coz of some silly worry about putting miles on an invincible engine and / or saving a few bob on the insce costs whatever ….. Unfortunately the fan and filter cleaning is not a something on any service schedule as far as I am aware. Depending on the age of the car and how much use the rear seats get the filter tends to accumulate quite a bit of crud that reduces air flow. While it still works its not at its best and hence battery usage reduces. You wont get any error on the display until its severely blocked and thats the only time lexus will clean it. I did mine at ~90k miles/8 years old and was surprised at the crap that came out. If your car is relatively new / low miles its probably working optimally already. Heres a thread on it in case you fancy having a read or plan to do it yourself.

Changing something part way through a test certainly wouldn't help with setting a benchmark. Given I do a lot of miles I have been able to do some pretty exhaustive testing comparing E10 to E5 over many thousands of miles on the same roads, same weight in the car (hybrids seem sensitive to weight, even the contents of a full tank compared to a near empty tank) and weather conditions (very important, especially to a hybrid as air temperature can make a lot of difference to the battery efficiency and how much it supports the ICE / runs in EV etc.) to try and remove any placebo effects (I'm not one to be drawn in by the petrol companies marketing claims). My tests have been mainly done comparing Sainsburys E10 (95 octane) and Sainsburys E5 (97 octane) all bought from the same fuel station with a high turnover of fuel (using the same fuel station with a high turnover is important as different E10 and E5 brands will produce inconsistent results, old fuel vs new also, and even different fuel stations of the same brand can). I am confident that under the same conditions that E5 delivers between 5% and 10% better fuel consumption than E10. This of course comes from a mix of the lower ethanol content and the higher octane rating of E5, though which contributes the most is anyone's guess. A few other points that I have noted are: a) The car runs more quietly and smoothly on E5 compared to E10, especially at higher speeds and accelerating hard. b) I haven't tested for any performance gains with E5 over E10 and I doubt they would be measurable in a hybrid, but just noted as in a) above. c) The improvement in fuel economy seems to be better with E5 at low speeds (there seems to be better pulling power from low speeds on E5 lowering the amount of throttle needed) than higher speeds - hence my 5% to 10% span for improvement as it does seem to vary a little depending on what sort of journey is undertaken. d) As the fuel in the tank ages the difference between E5 and E10 become more noticeable - so E10 left in the tank for a couple of weeks seems to deliver noticeable less mpg whereas E5 doesn't seem to anywhere near as affected. Since doing most of my comparisons I have now switched to using Costco fuel and did a few tests with that which largely bore out what I found with Sainsburys fuel. So my rule of thumb now is that if E5 is no more than around 10p per litre more than E10 at the same fuel station (at todays prices) I will be saving money or at worst breaking even using E5. More than 10p per litre difference then it will cost more to run the car on E5 (putting aside other less quantitative benefits such as smoothness and noise etc.). Given that Costco E5 is as cheap as the supermarket E10 and much cheaper than any branded E10, and the car appears to run very well on it, that is now what I use wherever possible.

There may be a rallycross circuit nearby?🤨. Many years ago I had my soft top sports car in for a service and later saw and heard my car being driven at speed down the road with the hood down ( it was up when I took it in ) with two blokes in it. I complained to the garage and got a shrug - roadtest matey! Tossers! They even put a scratch on it when putting the hood back. They were RAC authorised - and I was a member too, so I reported them. The RAC dealt with them and insisted on an apology and a refund and a scratch repair. I don't think the RAC are as good now as they used to be though.

Yes brakes and various other consumable / wear and tear parts aren't covered as you say. A TPMS sensor I'm pretty sure wouldn't be covered. The 10 Year Plus Extended Warranty is pretty comprehensive (better than 3rd party ones) but is more for the bigger things that could fail and shouldn't in the time/years of the warranty. BTW if you didn't know - it also includes Lexus Roadside Assistance within the annual cost (LRA is around £155 per annum and so makes the overall circa £500 of the 10 Year Plus Extended Warranty better value still).

Hi Phil, Good to see you’re still watching. Can you remember which pads are on at the moment? Reason I ask is I have millimetres to spare in the garage getting the Celsior in and the door fully closed, I put a couple of wooden blocks on the floor in front of the tyres to avoid hitting the end wall. I have to creep very slowly but at such a low speed the brakes are either on or off accompanied with a “ grunching” sound when released and a sudden lurch forward. In other words I can’t touch the blocks smoothly. After a bit of digging this appears to be a common issue with modern brake pads so I was wondering if another make would make a difference. The car is till running great with 3 advisory free MOTs since I bought it from you although I did have to spend £16.00 on it last week for a split passenger side wiper blade which by coincidence were also Bosch branded. Still not clocked up 100K 😀

Well, I test drove a Premium Plus LBX on Tuesday. Initial impressions were that it looks better in the metal than any photographs and is beautifully finished and assembled from top quality materials. Interior is lovely and everything - switches etc. - have a solid, quality feel and cabin is just a nice place to be. It drives nicely, firm but compliant suspension and performance was perfectly adequate if not scintillating, handled well and generally integration of engine and electric motor was seamless, at above crawling speed I couldn’t tell when the engine had cut in. On hard acceleration there was some engine noise but certainly no more than from a normal petrol car and as soon as I eased off the hard acceleration the noise all but disappeared. A very nice car.......BUT to be completely honest it really was nothing extra special, you sit quite low in the car, barely higher than a standard hatchback, there is not a lot of room around you in the front and less in the back and I am only 5’ 7” and my wife shorter. The road refinement was disappointing to me, more road roar and wind noise than I expected, not terribly excessive but significantly more than in a VW T-Roc for example. I enjoyed driving the LBX and it does give you that hint of luxury which I don’t think any equivalent competitor can approach - the T-Roc seems low rent compared to it - it just wasn’t as special as I hoped. Did the test drive put me off? No, but I have arranged a much longer test drive to really see how it feels over longer distances and in urban and rural driving.

I went to the dealer today. Checked it over and said they'd had several people in with the same and similar issues, but only Lexus models, not Toyota. They believe the last "over the air " update from Lexus has somehow corrupted the Multimedia system - but not affecting every vehicle and not always the same fault - some had Navigation issues as an example. It's been escalated to Lexus to release a fix and they have promised to ring me once a fix is ready and either have me back in to install it, or advise if it can be done over the air. Will update as and when I get it resolved.

Hi Alan, Just picked up this thread. I tow with a RX450h and have done for several years now with both a 400h and a couple of 450h's. I find them to be a very good tow vehicle and have never had any problems so you should manage a 1500 kg van with no problems at all ( I currently tow a twin axle at 1900kg MTPLM but have towed previously a couple of 1700kg vans). As for battery failure they are few and far between I believe. If you have a Lexus service it includes a battery check and think that extends the warranty for another year up to 100000 miles but check on the RX forum as there are several mentions there around battery warranty. As Mike says perhaps posting on the RX forum will illicit more info. Bri

In addition to driving smoothly there are two things that may help. Firstly, accelerate up to speed, say 30 mph, then come off the throttle so the EV light comes on and then lightly press the accelerator again to maintain your speed without forcing the petrol engine to start up again. This makes use of electrical running more than if you just kept your foot constantly down. Secondly, when braking glance at the energy meter and watch the meter go into the charge area - don’t let it get to the end and stop because at this point the mechanical brake start supplying additional braking effort - you want to brake gently where possible so all braking is done via electrical energy recovery.

I removed all the engine bay covers when I got mine and left them off. They don't do anything other than be in the way when you want to do anything...

You do not have to go to the dealer you bought the car from. You can get it done at any Lexus dealer / service . So If there is a dealer nearer to you just contact them, they can then get the key and clone it for you. That’s what I did & saved a 100 mile round trip

This is Canbus theft, not relay theft from the keys. A pouch does not protect from Canbus theft sadly. Would need an immobiliser fitted to stop it.

Like you say, what else would you replace an LC with? 🤔 I’ve bought a little warm BMW to daily….. probably faster than the LC 😀. The LC will remain in the garage and only be used occasionally. Not driven the LC for three weeks, then started it yesterday. God…… it’s so loud for a stick car cold start. 😂

I am still a new NX owner and was a bit concerned about the 12v battery etc.. My NX was fully charged and then not used for 3 weeks. I had no issues and the car just "started" and drove as normal which is quite reassuring 😀😀

As has been pointed out, disconnecting the power supply can have a downside. But the concept of a ‘Kill Switch’ is very appealing - and something I fitted years ago to Lotus Elan convertible. Rather than isolating the battery, I have mentioned in other threads an ingenious solution which involves isolating the fuel pump. This means that if the thief manages to start the engine, it will simply churn away, gradually flattening the battery. Few thieves are going to stick around to run a diagnostics check. Or call the AA! It’s a DIY job and I’ll post the link again if anyone’s interested.

Unfortunately the RX protection plate will not fit the NX - I already asked about this. I agree that the "not being aware" line seems a rather thin excuse. Paul
