This... Why do I need a dashcam? As it happens, I also have a dashcam fitted in my motorhome and now have something like a terabyte of video data which should keep me occupied in my dotage as I try to edit it into something memorable and/or entertaining2 points

As a postscript to the above - nearly 2 years on they have proved to be absolutely fine, cross-drilling better than standard fit. bearing that in mind, I have just fitted grooved and crossdrilled front discs and they are a considerable improvement on the old ones. The discs and pads were about 150 quid from the U.S.of A. via fleabay. And the old girl sailed through yet another MoT with no hint of problems.2 points

Got to love driving in snow. Just after Christmas 2015 we had it heavy in Sheffield for a few days and I went out more than once trying to get the XC90 stuck I even managed a couple of rescues and since then I've always carried a tow rope too. That's when I found out that black cabs are rear wheel drive and really shouldn't be on the Snake Pass in a snow storm...2 points

Full winters are more appropriate year round for most cars on UK roads than full summers, certainly for 4x4/SUV types. I'm surprised RAC/AA/IAM haven't campaigned for cars to be shipped with, at least, All Seasons in the UK for road safety reasons. Less people would get stuck, less people would have accidents and the country wouldn't come to a standstill as easily as it does. I was surprised at how well my Vredestein winters stood up to the heat of summer, despite getting thrashed occasionally with 262bhp and a shedload of torque on a 2 ton car. In winter 2016 I towed a stuck, fully loaded, 7.5t truck with a heavy trailer up a slope in heavy snow to unblock a main road. Even other 4x4s with summer tyres were stuck and they didn't have a 7.5t truck and trailer to tow. I was blown away by the performance of the Vreds in snow. Even without snow or ice on just wet, cold, greasy roundabouts they still got a huge amount more power down than the tyres that came on the car.2 points

Full LED lighting bar the boot. The reading lights in the front are actually touch sensitive rather than buttoned. Pic below shows the ambient lighting. It's always on at night but gets dimmer once the car is started2 points

If you offered that to me for less than 1K you'd never drive again because I'd have bitten your arm off! What a bargain, and what a lovely colour. Well done you!2 points

I have one "just in case" Apart from that, some friends of ours were staying at a remote cottage in Cornwall where we go, and it's hard to find. So I recorded the route there and put it on an SD card for them! A great little bit of technology.1 point

My dashcam and I were witness to someone pulling out of a side street into the path of oncoming traffic so I supplied my dashcam footage to the guy he hit and it helped him to win his claim.1 point

lol that was my cousin's M3, but it wasn't a fair race, he only had a cat-back exhaust at the time and was heat soaking while waiting for me to finish work. He has installed a full exhaust system, remapped ECU and tranny ECU and the his car is a different beast now, it ends up being a very close race.1 point

I have one too. I consider it insurance that one day may be useful. It was only 60 quid and excellent.1 point

Just bought IS300h Premier (2015) and here are rambling thoughts after one week of ownership. It's the (almost) fully loaded version with Mark Levinson Audio and Premium Sat Nav. Almost didn't buy it due to all the reviews. I've driven the same vintage 3 series and A4 and they just don't compare. The 3 series was a better drivers car, by a small margin, but are generally diesel and diesel is the devils fuel. The IS is very smooth and refined during normal driving, no loud diesel clattering as you drive around. The engine does rev up and get loud when you floor it but you only really notice due to the lack of noise the rest of the time. There's also enough power (for me) to perform brisk overtakes without flooring it. The more i drive it, the more i like it. The CVT gearbox is far better than people say. I drove the 8 speed auto 3 series which was very smooth for a regular auto but you could still feel the gear changes. It was never a perfectly smooth drive like the IS. Also that car had a lag when flooring it just like the IS in normal mode. (Combination of turbo lag and the gearbox hunting for a lower gear). Another plus of the IS is the tech you get with it as standard. (We have an i3 with the upgraded widescreen sat nav, which is great, but lights for the vanity mirrors in the sunshades was an extra. Unfortunately that box wasn't ticked so we have no lights there.) I actually quite like the remote touch 'mouse' and find it quick and easy to get around. I really love how the mouse feel 'adjusts' to the buttons so you can feel the cursor going over them. My biggest issue is how slow the system is, possibly this is why people get aggravated with it. When you come from super smooth BMW iDrive it really does show it's weaknesses. Even changing songs on iPod is far too slow. Average fuel consumption is 5.9l/100k (48MPG) at the moment and i'm not doing any fancy fuel saving maneuveres. I know a diesel might get better economy but life is too short to drive a diesel... Thanks to every poster here who helped me make the correct decision for my new car!1 point

an Ls400 at 100k miles is quite unlikely to suffer any costs related to suspension/steering stuff woes, nor waterpump nor alternator nor steering box and if this is a Mk3 then the steering column motors are unlikely ever to need attention. The starter motor is quite invincible too if it was dealt with under the Lexus recall for that specific Mk3 component. At about 150/160k miles one might start to need replacement bits and bobs ! 16 years driving Mk1 and Mk2 and of that some 6.5 years driving my Mk3 now at 200k miles They seem to be very often rather more robust than the Ls430 and if a UK supplied car will not have that dreaded air suspension which might start to cause issues at 100k together with the radiator/gearbox specifics too Malc1 point

@Steve Yes very unfortunate that's the price you pay with advertising endorsements even when they are in the background. Don't know if they endorse him or his business interests but I'm guessing if they do once they've consulted the appropriate suits they will be parting company, but only presumably if it financially suits them 😂 Big Rat1 point

@Defratos What was that little white German speck disappearing fast in your mirror 😂😂😂 Someone should set up an anonymous account on M3cutters and post it 🤓 Big Rat1 point

To be fair, I haven't been bothered to change to winter tyres in any of my cars since 1993 including RWD Mercs and Lexus. I've never been stuck Common sense would suggest if the weather is bad, stick to the main roads and set off early although I did end up not following my own advise when dropping my son to school about 4 years ago when I had my 3RX on OEM Dunlops. Living in Yorkshire, the hills are crazy and it turned out a Citroen C3 was spinning its wheels until it gave up and just stopped. Obviously I went around in the RX in Snow Mode with a huge grin on my face.1 point

I had Joe-Z on my car for well over 3 years and absolutely loved them. Personally drone was no where near as bad as the other exhausts out there, the only one that probably drones less was the Borla exhaust. The sound of the Joe-Z with headers was orgasmic, below video is a sample but does not do it any justice in real life:1 point

You’d be crazy to go with summer tyres. Go all season or full winter. Unless you’re driving it like you stole it you’ll never get any benefit of summers. I ran Vredestein wintrac Xtreme S on my 2015 Touareg. If I didn’t have 7mm on 4 corners on the RX I just bought I’d be putting the Vreds on it too. Just so happens my wheels and winters from my other car will fit the RX too so I’ve got winter and summer wheels with winter and summer rubber too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Nice to see Alfa quite high up the list. I like the new Quadrifoglio thing they do.1 point

Yes, I agree that with the white outside, the black/rose interior is the best option. I have ordered the Sonic Red with all black inside as no other interior option seems possible to me with this exterior colour. I have gone for the glass roof, however, to brighten it up a bit inside.1 point

Yes, Im on DW, the only member who rings a bell with a Touareg and Q30 is Nanoman! Before signing, just take a good look around the car, Im sure you'll spot any poor paint or dents that should be sorted beforehand. Lexus Sheffield has great customer service though so you should be fine but I don't know what their prep department is like. If you do spot anything, I am pretty sure they'll sort it out without any quibbles. The wheels are probably worth checking as they corrode and for some reason, the 2nd Gen RX tends to get a lot of stonechips up front so its more than likely been resprayed or touched up. And yes, the RX350 is permanent 4WD The DVD changer does play movies, but Im pretty sure you can only play them when the car is stationary so probably no use for an output (which I dont think exists anyway).1 point

I already have a wife and her name is not Michael. Takes an average Joe quite a few weeks to actually save up £700 pounds to spend doesn't it? That's why it makes me feel quite ticked off to hear about professionals taking advantage of their position. These people just don't understand what a great proportion of a persons annual disposable income they are asking for when they make such slapdash repair estimates. I am very pleased that my input saved you a wedge, now go out and spoil the wife and bank the change!1 point

Lol, MOT today, 56,801 Miles, fell in love again, don’t think I can sell her, can’t find anything I like as much, the wife has desided to stay too 😂🤣😂.......car got clean bill of health by Lexus and MOT with no advisories again 😉1 point

Well, I costed bushes, ball joints, susension arms-possible age related things at close to £2000! Same 'value' as the car nearly, at the time. these are big heavy cars and costs aren't cheap just because the skewed market depreciates things so much.0 points
