  1. Tonight it's 48.2/42.2 - a bit colder in Leeds today. Managed 30 miles on my last charge.

  2. Got the letter from Lexus in December and contacted my dealership - got reply about being busy and closure over Christmas and they would be in touch - still waiting, so end of last week contacted my “local” Lexus service dealer (they cannot sell Lexus but can service them) they said ok we can get the keys in a couple of days when do you want to come in it takes about 1/2 hr so we will fit you in almost anytime. Took it in this morning, all OK - it did take just under the hour, but to be fair the complementary health check and the valet & wash took most of the time, and the coffee was quite good !! ps still waiting for the printed owners handbook my dealership promised me in September

  4. Mine's also slightly down at 48.1/43.3. I actually achieved 33 miles before re-charge.

  5. What difference does it make if your engine is covered in plastic or not? It has a bonnet/hood whose purpose is (along with aerodynamics) to hide/protect all the gubbins in the engine bay. When opening the bonnet I WANT access to what I need access to, so I find all of those additional plastic covers to be a royal PITA. The underbelly covers make sense from an aerodynamic and cleanliness point of view, but the top covers are purely cosmetic for something you only see when you open the bonnet. 🤣

  7. I am intrigued as to why the white one hasn't been sold to a dealer, oh wait I know, because they only give you pennies and then stick £10k on to it to sell 😂

  8. For the passenger seatbelt knocking, I resolved that by moving the shoulder height adjustment to its lowest position. Seems to have at least minimised the knocking so far. Other than that ours remains rattle/creak free 🤞🤞🤞

  9. I've had an intermittent rattle/noise form the passenger side and it only appears on random occasions. I worked out that when there is no one in the passenger seat, the seat belt buckle, if it hasn't retracted flat to the trim rattles against the trim. I lean across and move it, issue solved - until next time.

  10. Happy New Year! I have noticed that the last two charging cycles the battery went down from 55 miles down to 52.8. I assume it might be due to the low temperatures and that when in a few month time the weather improves the mileage would go back to 55.

  11. Something like Stepppy recommends above will do the job. I have one from Aldi which I suspect is a rebranded version of Stepppy’s as the display screen is identical. I used that overnight in the garage once I’d jumped my 300e to get the battery back to a full charge and balanced. If not using the car for a while I would put it on again, once full it will just sit and occasionally condition the battery, it’s designed to be left attached. I used mine on our Kia EV and our Honda during the pandemic when the cars were often not used for weeks and weeks. About once a month I would put them on a float charge and never ran into any issues. One of these, plus the Noco, covers you with prevention and if the worst happens cure. No need to worry about the 12v letting you down then 👍

  12. It seems to be a very well made unit. It's a "Tracker VLU6 Locate". It has a (very dead) lithium battery pack. When connected to my bench PSU it draws ~60mA when active and ~15-20mA in standby (when only the permanent supply cable is connected).

  13. Once a 12 volt battery loses charge, there is no point trying to charge it up again and again, just buy a new battery.

  14. I had three and a half years with my UX250h, before moving onto an NX350h last September. The main reasons for the change was pretty much for the reasons which don't matter to yourself - more boot space and easier access/headroom in the rear. For me, that's literally the only things which let the UX down. The boot space proved itself to be too small for practically anything beyond the daily commute to/from work and the aging parents were starting to struggle a little bit getting into the rear because of the relatively low roofline (they were mostly fine with the legroom). I agree with @Tickedon over the quality of materials used and sound deadening being a 'step up' on the NX over the UX - but you'd expect that at it's price point. The UX's interior door panels were a bit 'plastic-tastic' I will admit. It really is down to personal preference. I prefer the NX to the UX in most aspects - but I did enjoy my time with the UX. It's a thoroughly decent all-rounder if you can cope with the lack of boot space. I would have been tempted to get another rather than the NX if the boot had been about 25% bigger. It done almost everything else very well indeed.

  20. As a two Lexus owner and recent purchaser of a late gen 1 NX300h I’m kicking myself and reading with mounting horror that somehow I missed the RAV4, ES, RX, NX canbus theft fiasco despite doing what I thought was extensive research for a nearly new used vehicle from various premium brands and deciding on the NX based on reliability, comfort and the dealer after sales service. Outside of owners forums, the criminal fraternity and a few articles this issue seems have been kept a dirty secret by Lexus and to make matters worse the Lexus (as a brand) attitude seems to be a two fingered, not our problem, fob off to affected and potentially affected owners of vehicles subject to this theft method. A theft method made unjustifiably easy by poor design by the manufacturer and it appears they are making every attempt to deflect and avoid responsibility for. Sadly this appears to be the modus operandi for Lexus (the brand) when faced with inconvenient problems of their making that owners suffer for. Although class actions have been mooted it appears the most likely method owners of affected vehicles can gain satisfactory redress to safeguard their valuable possessions as far as possible and to a level expected of a brand whose vehicles start at £40,000 and go up significantly from there and where even used models are between £20,000 to £35,000 from authorised dealers is to kick up such a very public fuss that it has the potential to become Lexus’s Ratner’s prawn sandwich moment. Although not generally available from a casual internet search and often actively hidden by larger corporates and brands it is relatively easy to establish the full corporate structure, senior and board officers and obtain personal contact details for most large organisations that prefer to remain obscure. Lexus will be no different and it really is wasting time dealing with a ‘customer service’ mouthpiece. That is exactly what they want. Obfuscate, wear down, evade and hopefully the energy and anger will dissipate and the problem quietly go away without doing anything. Should my NX300h be stolen due to canbus theft I am an educated, assertive, persistent and vindictive retired man with plenty of time on my hands and I will make it my mission to make sure Lexus’s refusal to provide a remedial fix for a problem entirely of their own making and they are fully aware of will be their Ratner’s prawn sandwich moment. I will sell my Lexuses, never purchase another one as has been the attitude of some of the more aggrieved owners on this site already inconvenienced and out of pocket due to canbus theft and make sure this does not remain concealed from the general public who think Lexus is an aspirational and desirable brand to own with high customer satisfaction. There is no point keeping this issue under wraps. The criminal fraternity and organised crime gangs are already fully conversant with canbus theft so owners are not disseminating anything that would cause them further significant damage. I would be interested to communicate with other Lexus owners who are concerned about this canbus theft issue, who have been fobbed off so far by Lexus UK Customer Services with such nonsense as use a steering lock deterrent, owners who have suffered and are now ex Lexus owners and who intend never to purchase another Lexus again due to the experience and those who have communicated with Lexus executives or organisations such as Which, mass media generally or similar rather than waste time with Lexus UK Customer Services. As a cohort existing Lexus owners are generally more likely than the average brand customer to be educated, affluent, assertive, pro-active and have useful skills and contacts. If Lexus wants that sort of customer for its premium priced vehicles, but chooses to insult and ignore them when not convenient for the brand as far as I am concerned it should expect to die by or at least be seriously financially damaged by its own sword and arrogance.

  21. For those who have the patience this short 5 min video was taken by Phil Walker Car Sales Ltd of Sheffield just after I sold my LS460 to him a few years back. He retired not long after and spent 40 years selling cars but loved the LS460. I was so proud to own this car in this colour combination. This was my very first Lexus and I stuck with Lexus ever since. Towards the end of the video he shows the car with the bonnet up and that is what this post is really about. He sold the car 5 days after he posted the video. In my opinion Lexus set out to impress by having the cleanest look of any car I have ever seen when the bonnet was opened. A damp cloth was all it took to keep it looking like new. My current car the LS500h has a similar look but not like a LS460 and certainly most cars today make it very difficult to keep an engine bay looking like new or at least clean and for someone as anal as me that's a hard thing to overcome. OCD has always been an issue for me but the first time I opened the bonnet of a LS460 I thought "now this is what I'm talking about" and how much time I would save cleaning. The ES300h I owned before my LS500 took a lot of time to keep clean and it still looked like a plumber's nightmare. If there is a smarter, clutter free, more streamlined under bonnet look than a LS460 be sure to let me know.

  22. Mine makes a noise like someone dis-embowelling a dalek, I can sometimes hear it in the car, but it does cut off at 15mph. It's only when going forwards. I think if it beeped like a reversing truck (Kia's do this?) would make me want to change my car. Apparently it's a UN directive (UN R138.01) picked up by many countries, to help vulnerable road users to be more aware of almost silent BEVs & PHEVs. You would think that as we've spent £50, 60, 70k on a car we should be able to choose the noise it makes - I'd pick the sound of an ice cream van to upset the expectant children when they see it's me and not the ice cream man coming down the street!! 😂

  25. You probably know this, but be patient. There are never many 430 out there for sale and finding one worth having at any given time is hardwork. Let it take as long as it takes, but when you find one that is right don't flunk it trying to get the deal. If its right you don't want to lose it over a grand.

  26. Thanks for this but unfortunately that has been eliminated and isn't the problem. Awaiting the BG planning team giving me a date for an engineers visit however the cable locked in again last night but the indicator light on the wallbox now goes from green (when the cable plugs in) to showing nothing. Previously the light would flash blue (when waiting for the scheduled charging time) to constant blue when charging.

  27. How far do you want to go.... hello rabbit hole my old friend 😛 undertray(s) off, check for signs of leaks/ weeping, visually inspect bushes wheels off, deep clean of arches, suspension, brakes, underneath the car/ put some protection on/ look for any signs of rusting etc Exhaust off if you want, handbrake check, look at all areas again for rust, wire wheeling, adding protection where required. Brake lines check. Check of rear subframe components, bushes, wire wheel rust, add protection... you get the idea 😂 And a final 'buttoning up', see if you're missing any obvious clips/ nuts/ bolts/ trims etc

  31. I think you are over thinking this a bit too much, take it step by step, the cup of tea suggestion is what I always do if I am getting wound up! If you are going jump pack route, I can recommend a Nocco, they are nice and compact and great bits of kit. Bit extreme but if it gives you piece of mind, no problem. The boot lid wouldn't have to be open all the time, you can gently close it on the ctek wires no issues, been doing it for years. Sometimes if the battery is too low the ctek wouldn't do anything, you'd need to use an actual charger and then connect the conditioner after it has been charged, but hopefully the AA charge and the drive has given it enough juice.

  32. Having just had a UX for a day as a courtesy car whilst my NX was having its locks replaced I can safely say that the NX is in a different league in terms of quietness and comfort. The UX seemed noisy and quite harsh.

  33. If the battery is six years old its probably give up with the cold snap the average life of most batteries is 3 to 4 years in normal usage, beyond that they have to be maintained on charge and lightly used. Bearing in mind the national grid you have on that car your battery as done very well and I would be surprised if it is covered by any warranty. The connecting of a trickle charger seems difficult from what you describe so in some respects all the gizmos on the latest models are achilles heels for the batteries.

  34. Couple of previous threads are out there on how to seal cracked weld seams along the centre of the boot lid (behind the lights and camera mouldings) and putting a 1kg bag of silica on the rear parcel shelf. To be honest I have done both of these that have improved the situation considerably for me, but as per Paul not completely eliminated the slight bit you get either side of the centre brakelight moulding on very cold mornings.

  37. For me it has been a question of taking all things Lexus for granted based my last 6 cars being Lexus hybrids and never until yesterday had a problem starting any of them no matter how long they were left in my garage or sitting on the drive. Equally the wife's 2 Toyota Yaris Hybrids have never failed to start. I now accept that this LS has so much electrical demand on the battery due to the multiple modems and ECU's that it resulted in me ordering a jump start pack that I will carry with me at all times. The positive post I can connect to is under the bonnet under a fuse/relay box and the earth can be any earthed metal bracket or large bolt head you can find so emptying the boot isn't necessary to access the 12v battery. The test now is will it start tomorrow after the AA got it started and I gave it a 40 minute run out or will the battery be shot having dropped to 3volts which caused the no start. I see no reason why the 12 month warranty I got with the car will not cover the battery and the fact it has a full Lexus service history thereby qualifying for the 10 year Lexus Relax scheme although I think Lexus have now dropped the actual word Relax as have Toyota dropped it for Toyota cars. I have considered connecting my CTek battery conditioner but then the boot lid would have to be open and with 2 boot lights on all the time I wonder if it would ever reach full charge.

  40. Apart from sport plus (rear wheel steer etc)or sport there are only two options - the mark levinson 13 speaker stereo to replace the standard 12 speaker pioneer, plus a HUD which also comes with keyless entry I think. Everything else is standard. Seats vs sports seats - hardly any difference other than a tiny bit more side support on the sports seats. It’s a Lexus so it’s nowhere near an AMG sports seat in terms of comfort - mines got sports seats and they’re genuinely the most comfortable seats I’ve had. Do bear in mind the ten year warranty - as far as I know you could buy privately or from a non Lexus dealer, put the car into Lexus for a service and get another twelve months warranty on it.

  43. I had owned Mercedes for 30 plus years and my last turned out to be 1/2 a Renault so purchased my 2017 300is back in July last year from a Lexus dealership with 24,000 on the clock and I love it apart from getting out of it but I am 70 , I had a problem with the water pump leaking but it was done at my local Lexus dealership under warranty the mechanic said it was probably because the car had been stood a lot because the coolant also lubricated the seals, £10 road tax but insurance extra and that was probably because my B class was 1600 and the Lexus is 2.5 , go for one you won’t regret it . 44. I wonder if the lack of "engine roar" makes the NX appear "not as fast". To be honest, I am not a fan of noisy cars. They do sound impressive for about 10 seconds but after that I would find them annoying. Much better with the refined NX 😀😀

  47. The Canbus risk was so serious I felt there was no choice but to offload an ES that was only one year of age and take a near £5k loss. The Lexus position made me lose all faith in the ability and ethics of the UK division. There is a strong case for a class action here and eventually it is likely to come to fruition. Karmic consequences are pending for Lexus UK and Chris Hayes....

  48. Had all four replaced a couple of weeks ago by Lexus Reading and they collected the car for the day, but think an hour each may be optimistic. As far as I could make out the only way to get to the handles is from the inside, and this means removal of the door panel. Glad they took their time and car returned as new with no marks.
