My understanding is that the latest generation of NX (22 MY onwards) and 5th generation RX aren't vulnerable.

Some car enthusiasts hate this sort of stuff but surprisingly the original badly stained grey calipers look tidier with a uniform colour finish. Anyway it's done now. The front calipers are huge on this car, looks like they are 4 pot, maybe even 6. Off to test drive the new hybrid LBX at Lexus Hull tomorrow which might be a suitable replacement for her Hybrid Toyota Yaris but sounds like the pricing will be a bit of a stretch.

It's not the same as on the new ones. IS250s don't get stolen. Not a desirable car nor expensive one, it's not a hybrid so it won't be a subject to catalytic converter thefts either. Lots of parts available thanks to the diesels going bang so even parts demand isn't really there.

That's my understanding too Ken. I read that this is because Lexus implemented Toyota Security Key (TSK) a unique encrypted key which the ECU's require before executing any CAN commands. This means that the physical key has to be present. However we don't know when or if the criminal fraternity will overcome it. It doesn't stop the scum doing damage to the wheel arch and bumper finding out though.

She was the only person on site when I collected my car. that was my main concern also parts as when I had my body shop many years ago, we used to work for a company who imported Toyota Amazons and if we add to order parts, the first thing Toyota asked for was the VIN number and if it was an import, they refused to supply parts as for insurance my current company have given me a really good price of fully comp & protected NCD for just over £500 I saw this one too pimped up thanks for your advice

Mistakes happen but as you rightly pointed out the liablity lies with them to make it right. If there was a perceived risk that removing the sensor was going to cause it to break. They should be calling and informing you about it. Anyway whats done is done. I think its fair to give them an opportunity to make this right and replace a like for like sensor themselves. i reckon it will be cheaper for them to fix it themselves with original parts than paying you to go to the dealer. Also do inform them about the valve caps and do this over a text message or email in addition to a call. Document your grievance and the solution theyre willing to offer in case you need to take them to small claims court.

After the update my info and security selections would not stay on causing me to have to reset after restarting car. Nipped into Lexus Bolton hoping for a solution. They got the multi media expert to look at it whilst I waited. He reset the system a couple of times and this resulted in the system working correctly. Everything now back to normal inc. info being sent to the app. Once again a great service from the dealership on responding even though I had no appointment.

Like Vlad said, it's most likely the alternator. Try charging the battery over night. Check with the volt meter. Have a look at this video and see if you think it's difficult or not. "easy" is down to personal opinion/skillset.

OK 3 to choose from and decided to go with the first I saw, an 18 plate advance with 25k. The 69 plater has clearly been used as a taxi as the shiny rear seats testify so that's off my list, plus it has only 1 recorded service at 30k (the 40+ interval) so missing some history. They had another 68 plate Advance in red looked clean but has no dealer history at all and is practically sold, also mileage higher at 40k. Without dealer history not sure I'd want it. Either way, looks like I'll be staying in Club Lexus for a while now.

I'd say yes as we aren't getting reports from owners here on theft, or attempted thefts. We have LV refusing to cover CT200h that aren't even vulnerable, so I feel pre and post facelift NXs might be all tarred with the same brush with some insurance companies. You would need to shop around.

It will have CANbus but it's probably not easily accessible enough for a thief to connect to. The models that have CAN headlights (IS250 does not) have vulnerable CAN wiring just above the wheel arch that can be reached with very little damage to the vehicle bodywork. I have not seen any IS250 reported stolen via CAN injection.

Tat? I think it's a very clever design. Seems well constructed, weighs almost nothing, easy to hide away and looks good. Only my opinion of course!

It’s a funny thing, a Lexus V8… they’re the halo car, but Lexus has never really seemed that bothered with them in the UK (or buyers weren’t…) I’ve had my GSF for 6 years now - it’s my daily driver and I can’t think what I’d ever replace it with. I’d probably choose the GSF’s successor but… there isn’t one! Bit of a shame the IS500 never made it here, but I’m not sure that’s quite what I’d want. Makes me laugh the occasional mailshots from Lexus telling me that “there’s never been a better time to trade up your Lexus..”! The sting of the annual VED of around £700 lasts a few minutes, but the GSF has been my ideal car since I first sat in one in Hedge End showroom whilst my ISF was being serviced. A sad, but inevitable end.

I’ve just insured my NX with LV for £405 for the year. It’s a 2021 so facelifted gen 1, ie Canbus vulnerable. Insurance issues must be dependant on postcode.

Most of luxury cars have this vulnerability, just some are less vulnerable than others. It really depends on where the CANBUS is routed and where the ECU is, basically how easy is to pull the cable and connect to it. I think most affected will be Lexus, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Ford, Range Rover, Jaguar, but I have also seen information about Audi and VW, BMW, MB stolen the same way. PSA/FCA cars so Renault, Peugeot, Fiat, Maserati, JEEP etc. I have not seen Porsche stolen this way, so maybe they just routed the cables differently. In short - most cars and most makes. Then it is more model specific whenever access is simple or difficult. For example Toyota RAV4 (and also Lexus NX for same reason, because it is same car) and Range Rover Velar and Sport are very widely know to be targeted, because CANBUS is literally under front bumper or in case of LR under wheel well liner, basically accessible by bare hands. Other models may require tools or extensive damage. I think BMW has the access under headlights, so thieves rip the headlights out to access it. As you can imagine driving the car without headlight is much more suspicious and much harder to do than just pull the corner of bumper.

IS250 has CANBUS indeed, but it can't be stolen via CANBUS easily. Basically, the reason why new Lexus after 2016 can be so easily stolen is that Lexus (Toyota really) started using "smart" headlight ECU. For whatever reason (which is really beyond me) they decided to connect that ECU via CANBUS. So the reason why new Lexus are so easy to steal is not because they have CANBUS (all cars since like 1994 maybe have CANBUS), but because CANBUS line runs in easily accessible place (e.g. just under the front bumper) and can be accessed from outside of the car. In IS250 you can find CANBUS junction near the drivers and passengers footwells, meaning one would have to get inside of car first before being able to attack CANBUS. So that makes CANBUS attack meaningless on IS250, because by the time one is in the car presumably it is already stolen. If anyone would bother stealing IS250, then most likely they would try "keyless relay attack", not CANBUS.

Just another quick update. The solar panel despite being now on the top of the roof was not enough to maintain a fully charged battery during the winter months. Now the days are longer it does now seem to be able to keep the battery fully charged. I have also now purchased a tracker with its own rechargeable battery so no additional drain now. Hopefully I won’t have any further issues.

Just front shocks from Japan. Rest UK sourced. Another factor is that I have a 5000 mile annual allowance for insurance. Trip would burn up 4000 of them! .....and fuel costs about double the other car. It will probably rain in Spain as well!

Use voltmeter and see what voltage it's showing and take battery off charge overnight and see if charge's my last battery was Toyota original one tried charging overnight but was totally dead

Hi Lex. I'm sorry to tell you that I had Exactly that and it was indeed the Alternator. Considering the age of your car too its the Alternator gone. I managed to get mine to Lexus to sort as I was desperate because I was going away that day. It cost £800 but I did get a free loan car for actually 4 days.

I've just had the windscreen removed and refitted. It should hopefully fix a small water leak I had which was causing the A-pillar trim to get wet, and general dampness in the car. I asked the guys to let me know when the roof gutter rails were removed if there were any broken clips, and it turned out there were loads, and quite a few missing completely. When they finished they said they had spares so they replaced them all. Result! The windscreen adhesive primer had deteriorated and they could see loads of places where water was getting in - but also said it's not done too bad as they are currently refitting loads of screens on cars that are less than 3 years old. I had to agree to have the whole screen replaced if it got damaged during the work because they couldn't guarantee it (£624), however they managed to refit it without breaking it so it was only £216. So I still have a genuine Lexus screen. The only non-original part is the rubber seal at the top of the screen, but it looks like factory to me. I used Express Windscreens and I'm very happy with the service.

So the questions for me now are: Do the criminals know that the pre-facelift NX is not an easy target? and will the insurance companies fix their premiums accordingly? It would be interesting to hear from owners of pre-facelift NXs on this forum.

It's pretty useless basically if you want to use cheap rate electricity, I ended up setting it start at the beginning of the cheap rate and just hope it finishes before it ends. Got fed up with it after a few weeks and bought an Ohme charger so charging was fully controlled.

The self healing paint I do believe has some merit. It's supposed to use sunlight to remove light swirling in the clearcoat that comes over time. Whether other manufacturers also use the same I couldn't say however. I recently posted on here a while ago about my own car and the good condition of it's paintwork despite the fact that due to doing a lot of miles in the car and not having much opportunity to pamper it I do very little to look after it - my Lexus dealer has probably washed it more times than I have...!

Yes, that is a fault on the second knock sensor (bank 2). This is a somewhat common error on these engines - probably corroded wiring rather than the knock sensor itself. See here for an example:

See I do not sell rubbish and it never had leaves on it when I owned it😃 TBH I fitted those sensors they are dolphin ones as Bob describes, you do not need to to remove bumper to fit from memory there is a good length of wire and a little connector and each sensor just pushes in from outside the car then click connectors together I used the original buzzer🤩 Stew

The NX/RX shortage is due to Toyota moving from using wheel nuts to wheel bolts. I believe these are manufactured in region, and someone on these forums mentioned in Russia which may have further complicated the supply chain - although how it can take well over a year to recommission the manufacture of some wheel bolts is beyond me. The bZ4X/RZ had a flawed hub design where wheels/hubs were becoming detached which led to a halt in production for several months and a worldwide recall. Not sure this redesign has affected the locking wheel bolt design - probably not and just the same as the NX/RX issue.

Yeah... lots of places seem to sell replacement sets - but there are only four sensors in the set. The car should be good, then, for the next 16 years : o )

Had it ceramic coated as part of the prep when I bought it so hopefully keeping it clean will be a bit easier. Just need a nice dry day to get it properly washed and gone over with some of the supplied detailing stuff. With the warranty and being a Toyota which are all virtually immortal if looked after I'm looking forward to the next few years of trundling round in it. When the time comes to settle up on it I will be stuck for what I'd get next if I don't keep it. I can't stand the way a lot of newer cars have gone with all the touch screens and silliness that ensues. And I'd be looking at models I haven't driven 100's or 1,000's of by that point. Years of valet driving had its uses.

Update after a solid 12 months searching for a 450 I've finally bought a 2014 low milage of 26.000 miles full Lexus s/h one lady owner with grey interior grey exterior advance model. Absolutely love it comfort and power on tap .

Lexus NX350h is the best option.
