  1. Hi guys, I would just like to introduce myself as the owner of the isf police car. I must own the most famous isf for my sins ;). I have owned the car since January and have been a member of the forum since then. You guys have been really helpful, sourcing missing exhaust tips and good advice. i thought long and hard before buying the car and was following it for sometime, I read all the chats on the forum, some good and bad but definitely well debated. I looked past the bad advertising, and went with it. The car is in good condition but just needs a bit of tlc that I am enjoying doing, missing exhaust tip sorted, bit of wear on the leather, ( booked in next week) cap on the bumper missing sorted. New brake pads all round sorted. Few bits of stone chips etc just to sort then she will be a shining pearl again. The car obviously has no lexus history as the police carry out work themselves. I was originally a little apprehensive but one of my friends worked on police cars and said they are cared for regardless of any expense or time, which is good to hear. It does have a service schedule of all works ever carried out, from tyres to services to any body / paintwork. So far so good i love this car and am fortunate enough to be able to run it as a weekend car, ( much more fun than the company volvo) the power delivery is so different the m3 I had previously, and does take some getting used to. But when that 2nd intake opens it smiles all round. The rareretey of this car is great also, I have only ever seen one in the flesh and that was about five years ago, and since then I have always hoped I would have chance to own one. Sorry for the life story, thought it might be of interest. i will ill attach a couple of pics if I can work out how to Thanks guys thanks guys

  2. Had to be done... edit: added a sneaky short vid just because well, I started the thread so I can mess it up. Handle well on the limit these motors.

  3. Your description of the fault is a little confusing saying (quote) "When the car tries to start now there is a horrible grinding noise from the transmission tunnel area." Then "it now appears to start and run fine." The 12 volt battery is nothing special. It does have a temperature sensor that can be removed, and fitted to the top of a replacement. This sensor helps control the charging voltage for the 12 volt battery. Can you get the car into ready mode? Put the car in drive with the parking brake off holding the foot brake firmly on with your left foot. Then apply some accelerator. The display should show the traction battery charging. This is called force charging, and is safe to do as all the engine power goes to MG1 (motor generator one) to provide a charging voltage. John

  4. Indeed I did, clear conscience Even warned him of Lexus dealer and parts prices. Having said that, he hasn't come back with the money yet Time will tell...

  5. Your colour code is on a label where the vin code is on the passenger side center pillar, open the passenger door and you should see it.

  6. Nice addition to the eBay ad - "Contrary to the geeks on the ISF Lexus forum the reason I did not sell previously is because I changed my mind to keep her after selling for 18,200. Now my circumstances have changed and I'm prepared to let her go" Not sure why the owner is so annoyed by this thread. As forums go this one is by far one of the friendliest I have encountered. Given the small market of ISF buyers it makes no sense to just go off on one over something so trivial.

  7. Dont leave. Members like Rayaan & Messi are very knowledgable and helpful. Learn from them and be grateful they posted the answer. Constructive discussion is what makes forums interesting. To be fair you did put your foot in it. Take it on the chin. I was on a forum for my previous car and everyone agreed and it was dull and boring!! Ed

  8. Yes, they seem keen to do the work. It was done under the agreement that there was no guarantee but it was a risk worth taking vs the cost of a new part.

  9. I use one every 3-4 months. It'd very easy to use and creates a fantastically smooth finish before I re-apply the Armourshield. I use it in small bits, rather than the whole block. It also works on the wheels to get the crud off

  14. The rattle seems to be coming from the lip above the sat nav, I have wedged it which helped, but I think it will have to be a dealer bodge.

  16. I think you're supposed to put it In cruise control then get in the back and "fix ham and eggs" as the vehicle drives itself.

  17. I have removed the grill it is simply a case of prying up carefully, with it raised, the buzz can be eliminated by pulling the trim between the grill and screen lip forward, so I have just today tried wedging a couple of matches in the gap, will see how it goes over the next few days.

  18. Had to Tiger seal between the Maf adapter and silicone hoses. so once thats cured will do a test drive see what the response is like now. Have left the air scoop on above the rad as am thinking of fitting the heat shield up to it so can use it as a feed. All the hoses and clamps etc are from Auto Silicone Hoses (ASH) and seem to be of decent quality. Also had to knock up a joiner between oil breather and the intake as couldnt find one. didnt get pictures before i fitted unfortunately

  19. I run a 13 year old Golf 1.4 as a daily, for me it is so much cheaper to run the 2 cars than it would be to use the IS-F every day, and then when I do get In it after a few days it feels special.

  21. Dealer is having you for a fool IS300h has service intervals of 10k miles/1 year for private buyers and 12k miles/1 year for business users. Therefore, that IS is missing 2 services and warranty will be affected. However, having said that the warranty is set to run out this year regardless. The warranty is 3 year/60k miles. All Lexus vehicles have a service book, Lexus stores information on their system but its not readily available by each dealer. Its cheap because it doesn't have a service history.

  23. I recently had my 300h with ML in with the dealer for a week during which I was given a CT200 with standard audio as a courtesy car. Having always had ML systems as integral to the top-spec packages of the four IS's I have previously owned and therefore not having had a basis for comparison, the experience was a interesting one, and I am able to offer the following thoughts. (1) The clarity of the sound in the CT200, while acceptable and the equal of that of any standard Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Porsche, Volvo or Peugeot system I have experienced as a driver or passenger, was nowhere as good as that of the ML in the 300h, by which I mean that the clarity and detail were inferior in complex sounds of the type exemplified by symphony orchestras or jazz big-bands. Similarly, the combination of purity, realism and range on which the pleasure of listening to, for example, unaccompanied classical piano, chamber music or small-group jazz is much dependent, was far superior in the case of the ML. (2) As with most premium audio systems, whether domestic or mobile, the ML gives an impression of effortless performance, great reserves of unutilised power with no potential threat of distortion, and a general feeling of spaciousness. Not surprisingly, the standard system by comparison does not. (3) While it is difficult to say to what extent the foregoing impressions were influenced by the superior proofing of the 300h against road, tire and engine noise, I would judge the difference between models in this regard, if any, to be insufficient to invalidate the comparison. (4) As regards FM but more particularly DAB reception, I noted that the 300h is better in the sense that more stations are received for more of the time over a wider area. I really don't know if this has anything to do with a ML or non-ML system or whether the 300h simply has a better antenna (incorporated in the rear window and not sticking out of the roof as in the CT200). I would conclude that any music lover in possession of a substantial supply of well- recorded music of a nature that demands fidelity as distinct from mere adequacy of reproduction should plump for the ML system as a guarantee of excellence within the confines of a car that is in itself a product of excellence. In other words, if the cockpit of a 300h is a nice place to be, the ML makes it even nicer - and you are not going to procure the system anywhere else or reproduce your music better. Of course, the cost has got to be amortized over kilometers and time according to personal parameters, and even if the thought that Lexus has charged an extortionate price will always weigh on your mind, there are worse things in life on which to spend your money.

  24. You do have to adjust it - but systems like the ML need to be turned up a bit to get the best of them. The best I have ever is the B&O in the Audi A8 - with the pop up tweeters. It is the most concert hall like experience I have ever heard - though the MLS in 2IS I thought was slightly better then the 4GS. I think it's the "Green" energy efficient speaker set up - takes a little of the deep bass away. Still worth the extra conga in my book - it is still excellent. It is all relative though....I used to think the standard stereo in my Corolla was brilliant, until I heard a mates Alpine set up in his Mitsubishi Sapporo Turbo.....this is going back to 1990....

  25. You need to fiddle with the settings on ML to get the best out of it. It sounded average when i collected my car but now sounds phenomenal after fiddling with the equalizer. Volume also needs to be turned up to hear every single detail because at lower volumes, detail cant be distinguished.

  26. I had a demo of GS300h Lux, with added ML and I wasn't that impressed. To me, it appears it is very music specific, I thought it was a very clear sound, very clinical and bright, but had too much top-end and not enough bass and mid-range. Something I tried to dial out with the tone controls, but it has the same, treble, mid, bass as the standard system so i couldn't affect it much. Great if you like Jazz and Classical, not so good if you prefer rock/pop etc. I subsequently listened to the standard Lexus system and preferred the sound, which i though was much warmer. Functionality it's identical, so ML is only adding different amp and speakers. Each to their own, but I'd urge a demo with your own ears before deciding.
