  1. Today's charge replicates the previous 52.1/50. Actual on the previously predicted 50 was 47.

  2. Thank you for organising David. It was lovely to meet everyone 😁. We really enjoyed looking round the venue too. For info I bought 3 tickets/wristbands at the kiosk (I have a pic of the numbers if needed) Hopefully I’ve attached the pictures I took. Sorry I’m no photographer

  3. I had the same problem during my 15 years of LS 400 ownership. When I switched the AC 'ON' there was a discernible drop in engine RPM but no AC operation. It turned to be a compressor fault and I had it replaced. It was the only expensive problem I had with the car in all those years. Unlike Malc, I think that AC is essential......and why would you drive an LS with the windows open, when one of the joys of owning one is the complete silence as you waft along the highway!

  4. Just as I turned up I got a call from my wife saying our neighbour at the back of our house reported water pouring down our roof. So I told her her to turn the water off and call British Gas emergency service. It would appear that my efforts to book us into the Museum have gone pear shaped. I will call them Monday to find out how this happened. Hope you all had a good time.

  5. Probably because there is a little bit of work involved! My dealer had to go away and find out but was happy to get back to me when he had found the information. If your salesperson wasn't helpful after spending all that money buying a car, I would speak to the manager in the first instance. If no joy there, then maybe consider another dealer and a letter to Lexus UK.

  6. That may well be the case, Paul. But if you were a thief it would mean an additional five minutes with the car - possibly generating an attention-getting degree of noise - and increasing the risk of discovery. In contrast a £40 set of locking wheels nuts will provide additional protection to what can easily amount to a £1K set of chrome alloy Lexus wheels and tyres. Were I a Dealer faced with a supply problem from Lexus, I’d buy half a dozen sets from Halfords rather than have a dissatisfied customer who’d just spent £40K with me!

  7. I have just seen thar Calvin at SC430mods.com is now starting selling clear side marker lights. Coincidentally I only fitted some myself a couple of weeks ago which are the same but from ebay. Obviously they don’t light up because they are not wired up on UK cars so are just clear reflectors. I bought them as all amber LEDs but I would have liked white then I might have considered wiring them up as daylight running lights but I couldn’t find any. I did also buy some bulb holders and wiring if ever I wanted to wire them up as amber indicators.

  8. 106 by the end of May, but the vast majority will be press, employee and dealer demonstrators. The Toyota is at around 700, with just under 300 of them registered this year (not quite sure how they ‘sold’ 400 of them last year).

  9. Big thanks to Birma for making this happen today. Saw more F cars than I've ever seen on the roads. Great seeing and talking to all, learnt more about my own car from you all than ever the dealer told me. Till the next time.

  10. It somewhat depends on how well charged the battery was to begin with but yes, if the interior light was on for 24 hours you would have issues with a flat battery on a Lexus hybrid as the 12v battery isn't very high capacity. Unlikely to be anything more serious.

  11. The revs increase when the compressor engages which is why they say the Car uses more petrol when A/C working. I just reported that my Car A/C was reharged and goes down to 9.2 degrees. If and when I drive to France it will be essential to keeping me safe. An old boy with too much heat has a tendency to fall asleep !

  12. Hello. Not sure about how fines will be imposed. I will do some digging. They seem to be a lot better informed here now and access a database. As for classic cars. If they have a normal Spanish number plate there will be problems. If they are on Historic plates then it is ok. To get historic plates you need to do quite a few things. Be in a classic car club in Spain. No modifications to the car, has to be all original to qualify. Then it needs assessing by a technical person etc... Can only drive a certain amount of Kms yearly. Lot of stuff. I had a 1966 Merc W108 250se. I changed the tired engine for a 280 M110 and installed efi. This was on a Madrid number plate so I wouldn't have been able to put on historic plates because of the engine swap. I sold it. Google historic number plates in Spain for more info.

  14. I could not agree more. I went for Lexus (after having a BMW 530e) not only for the car itself, but for the Lexus' reputation of providing service beyond any competitor. Have they decided it was too much and will they become like the mainstream dealership? I have been trying to contact my dealer for a few days to no avail. I will give him the benefit of the doubt, he might not be in office (although no automated response was sent back) and will give him a few more days before I take the car there.

  18. Hey Malcolm, thank you for your kind words. It's a 2nd gen LS430. I have to wind the windows down aswell :D. I may need to go abroad with the car, which is why I kinda wanna fix the AC, if I can, ASAP. If not, my family will be in for a nice ride of 40°C air slamming into their faces at 80mph 🙂.

  19. Mert hi and welcome to the LOC . sorry you've hit upon a snag . might be lucky and someone here with a Ls430 might be able to help ! What's the regn by the way . is it a first or 2nd generation Ls430 ? I have no discernible advice to offer sadly Good Luck with it all Mine on the Ls400 stopped working about a month after I bought her some 12 years back . reading the issues with re-charging and replacing it all I just decided to open windows at the appropriate times 😥 . the cost even then of fixing it seemed disproportionate to the price I paid for the car ..... £1400 ....and I've now doubled the mileage to 246k miles too ✌️ wot wondrous cars these are eh ! 21. P.S. my NX350h Takumi was unloaded from the ship yesterday at Portbury, so we'll see how long it takes to get to Leicester Lexus.
    1 point
  22. When I asked my Lexus dealership for the ship name they said that they have tried to get the ship name from Luxus UK in the past but can't. So, I sent one quick email to Lexus customer relations asking for the info which was answered the next day with the ship info.

  23. Twelve years ago My first Lexus LS400 mark 1 was coming to the end of its life mainly because of rust .I decided for reliability I was sticking with Lexus but which one ,I did a lot of research into the post ls400 Marque and looked at ls430 ls460 and the sc430 and with the winner being my Ls400 mark 4 here are the reasons. The issues with the 430 were at the time very out there and were covered comprehensively by Qamar ,The LS460 was very expensive to maintain especially the suspension and the SC430 was a harsh ride not designed for our roads more the american interstates. If you couple that with the 17 years of improving develoment of the LS400 it is a stand out winner ,no other car in the Lexus range as been in production for that long .

  24. Well I had a couple of attempts that ended up like a Monty Python script, so gave up. But to be fair, I had the same result with my previous Honda Accord. So either one has to persevere - or it’s Japanese sense of humour.

  25. The Issa Brothers (whom purchased Asda from Walmart (with help from a Capital provision business), previously ran (were Co-Directors for the EG Group (https://www.eg.group/retail-segments/fuel/) and a few food supply and retail areas too! ( https://www.eg.group/) Wherever you've bought your petrol, Malc, you've probably helped pay for Issa brothers mortgages! 😉

  26. Interesting. Locking wheel nuts are normally taken into consideration when insurance groups are set - I wonder if they would rerate the vehicles. You obviously ordered the vehicle when they were standard - whilst they can alter the spec you would think the Lexus UK or the dealer would just supply them for in-flight orders. The website / vehicle brochure and press information still states these are standard:

  27. Can you try putting it into manual mode and holding the revs high but at low throttle - would give an idea if it is related to engine load vs rpm. Also what drive mode are you in?

  29. Went to clean windscreen on inside as had a film of something on it. Then started to see 4 stone chips and 2 very small cracks in it. Think a lot of this only showed up after a very hot day up here 27c (usual summer temp is 20c-22c). Then came the thunderstorm (highly unusual) rained on scale that ive not seen in uk. Similar to auzzie cyclone or bad storm on Canada's west coast. Phoned insurance company for go a head to claim for a new screen. Got go head no problem. To get done a home earliest date was end of July ☹️. If I take My LS430 to company windscreen fitting centre in Inverness it can be done next Wednesday. So I'm off to Inverness next week. Another drive for the LS430 to stretch its legs.

  30. Consumers Act 2015; this letter I wrote seems to have got Lexus a bit more focused on the issue. I've now had an kill switch fitted and pledge to fit the prototype armour. They've not agreed to a CAN bus immobiliser. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives me rights when I buy a product that it is fit for purpose, as described and in satisfactory quality. It has come to my attention through reliable media reports that my Lexus RX has an easily exploited security vulnerability due to a non-encrypted CAN bus network, which is easily accessed by hand prying open the bumper and wheel to expose a front headlight connector, overriding the immobilizer. My Lexus now has the unenviable boast of entering the top 10 most stolen cars in the UK, according to the Telegraph newspaper, with associated increased insurance costs and difficulties. The security evidently isn’t fit for purpose, as described or of a satisfactory quality. I’ve discussed this with my local garage, and they mistakenly think this is my problem. I am temporarily using an additional steering wheel lock, and reducing use of my car, but this isn’t a proper resolution. The way to resolve this issue would be to upgrade the CAN bus with encryption and protect the vulnerable access point. I’ve investigated myself and have recommended to me by a specialist an additional CAN bus immobilizer (Approx £500 for a Ghost system). I would like you to cover the costs of this additional security or advise on what other measures you are planning to take and the timescales. If I don’t get a satisfactory response, I may install the additional immobilizer myself with a protection / armor for the entry point, and additional out of pocket costs related to theft insurance, and pursue the costs through a small claims court.

  31. I got all excited today, saw the whole picture coming together and beamed at her in all the soon to be glory. The body shop kindly allowed me to come put some bits back on to make her a runner instead of a pusher. So all 4 calipers were installed, brake lines reattached and parking brake cable reconnected. Reinstated rad, condenser and associated pipes, air box etc all put back in and then finally all fluids refilled, only to realise I had forgot my EZ bleed kit for the brakes (doh!), so going back tomorrow morning to finish that off. Battery has been at home on trickle since its departure to the body shop, I had to give it a go right? Car of course started first time, no exhaust attached so a thumping V8 grumble rang through the building. 7 more sleeps and I should be good to have the car back at home 🙂

  32. The odd thing about the exaust on these cars is that rust didn't form inside, just surface rust. The first comment from the shop owner when he looked at the departed box was 'oh ye, seen these few times before on this model, and it always the weld that gives up the ghost after many years of service'. So maybe Lexus of those years produced a very good part from a material point of view, but the weld is of a lesser quality. Real shame it can't be welded back properly. Not from the expense angle but I hate trowing away parts that still have a good bit of life left in.

  33. Malc1 price of my LS430 was £1k originally owner wanted over £1500. With final bill for repairs and servicing I've probably still got a good deal.

  34. Malc1 glad you think my LS430 looks good for its age and mileage. It passed its MOT today with 2 advisories. Near side rear upper ball joint slight play and off side front upper ball joint. Get those sorted when I'm back home. It will be good for you to see my LS430 and me 😂.

  37. ŴVHC.pdfVHC.pdfLmafudd yes you are right car is 19 years old, 333000 miles on clock. Body wise it is immaculate even technician on video walk around said i had superficial rust. Bought with known issues for handbrake, so expected issues mainly in braking dept as I had warnings in written and big red triangle on dash. Which I remedied by replacing "cut" brske wear sensors 🤔. Test drive before purchase never gave any indication of wheel bearing or back end feeling "sloppy/loose". The 230 mile drive to dealer from very far north of Scotland to Edinburgh was very smooth and relaxing. Even booting it off the line it went like stink with no tugging or steering correction nesscary. I now understand that technicians that work for lexus as marque err on the side of caution. The sheet listing everything that needed to be fixed comes in 3 different groups. Nesscary, recommend and OK. To be fair to lexus they didn't find a lot wrong. See if I can attach inspection sheet and video of my car.

  38. First pit stop 5,5 liter per 100 km or 51 Mpg (imperial) 43 Mpg (US) pretty good for this big boy with 65% motorway 30% b roads and 5% city driving

  39. Ouch! Worth it though, only thing that keeps a car on the road in extreme situations is the tyres. The one area I try and steer clear of is recycling centres. You see so many nails and screws and other sharp things on the ground around the bins that I always think they are a breeding ground for punctures. I just get the missus to take everything in her car....

  41. To put it very politely my dealer was less than helpful when I asked for details of the vessel my vehicle was on. Having researched vehicle carrier arrivals at Portbury and departures from Nagoya I am now fairly confident of the vessel name and that it is now in the Arabian Sea to arrive in Portbury 2nd week of July, probably the same boat as Bill's is on. Hopefully I will take delivery of my new toy sometime in August, 13 months after the order.

  42. Ordered mine in February 2022 and looks as though it’s on the same ship. Looks like Takumi’s were held to allow other models. It will be 18 months from ordering to delivery.

  43. What did I do with my lexus today, took a huge gamble. Dropped my LS430 off at Lexus Edinburgh, all very efficient and polite. Courtesy coffee given. Went through list of work for approval and mot test. Got a video walk around of my LS430 and faults. Lexus discovered a leaking core plug 😬. Other bad news is condenser on air-con has no cooling fins but still in working order no leaks, steering rack gaiter torn (out of stock so lexus is getting me one from a motor factor 🙄), near side wheel bearing has excessive play (never felt or heard it), brake pipe corrosion, high level brake light bulb out. Now comes the biggy bushes are worn in rear trailing arms. Lexus do not replace bushes only complete arms. Pair fitted is £2500 but not avaliable until July at earliest. MOT is booked in for Friday. Lexus has decided with my agreement carry on with MOT Test and see if a get an advisory on trailing arm bushes. Now in hindsight I should of booked MOT first then decided what to do with my LS430. Knew it would need some repairs when I bought it so was prepared to sink a few thousand into it. A few thousand has turned into a lot of thousands. If my LS430 fails MOT I will have to see if they will let me drive it away, so I can get it sorted at home. If not it's going to fun trying to get to work for Saturday night. One way of looking at this is I could of paid a few thousand for an LS430 and still been in same boat. Repairs will be up to lexus quality standard. Comments good bad and ugly most welcome, blunt comments greatly appreciated as I prefer a straight answer to straight question with no faffing about. A spade is spade 🙂.
