  1. Finally! Everything looks fine, no noticeable damage in the back or panels, all doors had their official stickers, total history all from Lexus garages since 2014. Tomorrow I'll be taking it to my local Lexus dealer to do a health check.

  3. I hope this maybe of assistance to any of you owing an old Lexus like mine. I’ve owned an LS 400 since new for 26 years and over the last 15 years went to a local garage for maintenance. She is immaculate in all aspects and has never , ever let me down. Whilst the garage did the maintenance there was no pro active support for the vehicle ending up in the Cam belt going and causing damage to two cylinders. At this point all interest and support from that garage ended , actually providing me with completely incorrect information. By good fortune I was recommended to another garage by a good friend in the motor trade to his garage , a garage he has used for many many years. I asked for assistance from that garage and without fail in all aspects they have provided a first class professional service to me. Following the car being trailered into them , they immediately diagnosed the precise facts of my situation and advised me on a course of action , with costs , the journey I would be on, to retrieve my wonderful and totally reliable old car. I would like to let you all know this garage, for no other reason ,you will receive the same excellent service I received and I would like this garage to benefit for further Lexus work that might be out there. JPS Automotive based in Lancashire in a town called Burscough , John Stanmore is the proprietor and lead mechanic 0151 245 7444. I hope this note may help someone out there. Michael Vercell.

  4. Hi Les, The Lexus software requires a perfect match because apparently they are unable to write an algorithm to just match the last, say, 10 digits of the phone number. This is another bug I reported in MM19 that they never fixed.... If you store all your numbers in your address book with the dialing code i.e. starting with +44 then it should work fine (almost all the time - unless the call happens to come in as a 3g call...) ...It seems that when you have an incoming call on 4g and above, it is seen with the international code, but on 2/3g it is seen without it. As we move to better 4 and 5g all incoming calls will be high quality 4 or 5g and will need +44 in the address book to match the call. Perhaps just try for the entry in the phone book of your wife and test it works before making any mass changes. If the names that seemed to match do not have the +44 stored in the address book, they may simply have come in as 3g calls. As usual, it's buggy and annoying but there is a work around. Cheers, Paul

  5. I’ve now been contacted my CR: “We are finalising the logistics in terms of its cost (part) and labour and will be notifying our Lexus Centre partners in due course as to when they can be ordered and provided to those owners who would like to safeguard their investment. We would be more than happy to fit one of these protection plates to your RX and have already contacted the Centre to advise that one is on the way to them for you. Once this arrives they will contact you to arrange to have this installed, this will take about an hour and of course will be at no cost to yourself.” Looks like they’ve come through so the way to go about things is clearly through customer relations!

  6. Ask the Ghost 2 importer for some recommendations for fitting( someone put a video up on the owners club of good advice) and they kindly give me some suggestions of companies that are trained by them. One of them called me to check on model and called me back, and said a big NO. The Lexus software on the latest NX450 will not work with the Ghost. Ghost are said to working new software. So just a heads up.

  8. Could it be picking up a signal from another key fob Not necessarily yours, To ellimate the key fob Theory put both your key fobs in Faraday pouches and if it still happens its NOT YOUR key fobs which are at fault..That would only leave two options ie The car is picking up another signal from an outside source Or there is a fault within the computer system controlling the activation of locking/unlocking the vehicle...if this is the case take it back to the dealership who will investigate this problem especially as it compromises your car security ... does that make sense.?

  9. Just sailed through with a welcome 'green' pass for another year, having bought it just last December. 👍 In fact it's had 15 MoTs in its life, all 'green' except three 'oranges' ... two for tyre wear (2010 & 2017) & one for a worn brake disc (2016). 👏 Such a record was a major reason behind me buying it and I intend to keep it 'green' going forward. 🤢 As everyone on here knows, you look after your car and it will look after you. 😊 Happy days, am enjoying the ride. 🥂

  10. Just has my lovely 2003 SC430 cambelt and water pump renewed and got a great deal at Lexus Teesside main dealership in Stockton. Whole job done for £650 including the dreaded and the also did a full health check and reported any potential issues (none as it happened). Great team, superb service and I recommend this dealership without exception! Cheers!

  11. I doubt there's much difference in MPG between any of the 3rd generation 450 models. My 2014 Luxury is currently getting around 37mpg, but that's with 4+ years of hybrid driving experience behind me and wafting around on relatively gentle East Anglian roads. Shorter journeys and/or hillier routes would make a difference. There's a good guide to the RX450 trim levels and their equipment pinned at the top of this forum.

  12. Thank you for the advice. I've just changed up from a 2009 rx400h to a 2016 rx450h and was having the same issue, but changing the prefix to +44 on the phone contacts has solved the problem.

  16. My car is currently at Lexus having the plate fitted. It has taken a while but it seems that things are moving quickly now. The dealer did show me the plate and how it supposedly works as he also had another one for another customer. It should certainly stop the car getting stolen using the can bus method but unfortunately the thieves are still likely to cause the damage trying to access the cables before they realise they cannot. Better than nothing, I guess....... I still think some razor wire under the wheel arch would do wonders to any hand trying to access the cables!

  18. Yes agreed - for average person this sort of TPMS is better than nothing, for me it is more of a nuisance than anything else, because most of the time it triggers incorrectly, so basically I am driving with TPMS light with obstructs my view of more important things (like remaining range) despite me knowing the tyre pressure is correct and light was just triggered because of sharp corner. I was actually surprised it didn't trigger at all when I replaced the wheels, but that was short lived - half way from London to Birmingham TPMS decided to start working and informed me that I was apparently driving without wheels for last 100 miles. Now when I clear the code for TPMS it triggers only when I take sharp turn at speed... which doesn't inspire confidence in me to trust the system works at all... I guess workaround would be to press button that switches between main and second set and that should get rid of the fault until next sharp corner. The other solution I am thinking off - just put 4 sensors in the boot, set warning to 0PSI (not actually sure that is possible) and just carry them around.

  22. I also have a 2015 3rd generation RX 450, I replaced the Dunlops with Cross Climates which improved things in several ways including ride but have to say still not good on poorly maintained roads, My daughter's Sorento is better in this respect but inferior in almost all other ways. I was unlucky with mine in that the 2 front struts needed replacement at around 40K miles, There was knocking from front and excessive movement. Some people do 200-300k miles before this is necessary, so perhaps I was unlucky. Several posters have needed to replace the front top mounts, so you could check these.

  23. As mentioned, totally different cars! Suppose it depends what you are after… The track spec thing doesn’t appeal to me much anymore but I use my car as a daily driver! If it’s just a toy then suppose it makes sense. I’d be reluctant to get rid of the engine, would miss the V8 too much, think I’ll always have one now. I’m at the point when I’m considering getting a comfy daily and using the RCF as a second car and the only thing I’d contemplate swapping it for is an LC500 convertible and even then, not entirely sure yet….

  24. The three LS430's I've owned have all had the same misty headlights. I found masking the surrounding paint and spending about 5-10 mins on each light with compound and then waxing lasts a good few months. Once you've done it it's much easier to do it the next time before it gets too bad. I've used elbow power in a circular motion but a small polisher in a drill works well. I certainly wouldn't pay to have it done!

  31. LOL Pat. I most definitely do Not need counselling for suggesting you need an EV for the distances you travel. I'm a petrol head and Proud of it. I'm also a realist and know that EV's have their place Today. The fact is an EV is the vehicle I should be driving for the distances I do. I would too if I could afford it so I'll stick with my V6 and continue putting my 2 penneth in within the fabulous forum 😁

  32. As per @H3XME recomendation I have tried different product of Liqui Molly. He has generously given it to me to try and i think it worked. Its an Intake valve cleaner but its the one you spray into intake when the car is running. Did it when the car was running, holding it at 3.5k rpm and sprayed hole bottle inside the intake. Car was pouring some white smoke out and then took it for a test drive in manual mode and keeping revs high. It mainly helped to get rid of the egg smell from the cats it probably cleaned some of the carbon as well. But will take intake off soon so will see how 110k engine looks on the inside. Thanks again @H3XME

  33. That's great news Rowley, and an outstanding MOT record for a 16 year old car. Mine's similar, with it's only failures being for tyres, which is a huge improvement over my previous Jag, which usually needed something doing, as well as various extras at each service. I think it was called a grand tourer because each time it went in it would cost a grand 🙂 With a service plan and extended warranty, I now feel less anxious when it comes to service and MOT time each year.

  36. Thanks to all for your replies, particularly Malcolm, Gary and Alan. I now have the car running in HV mode, and expect to refill (with E5) very shortly. To those who told me I needed a full EV, discard any sharp objects around you, and urgently seek counselling. 😀 EV is not yet the way forward. Pat

  37. I switched to E5 some time ago on my IS 300h. Simple supermarket brand E5 gives measurable better mpg than any E10 (supermarket or any of the branded). At least 5% and up to 10% improvement, which I know is a lot more than should be the difference, but found this reliably over many tankfuls comparing E5 and E10. So, as long as the price difference between E5 and E10 is less than 10% I generally save money using E5 (supermarket E5 is less than 10% more expensive than E10, but branded fuel is probably not). I also noticed that E10 mpg gets noticeably worse as the fuel ages in the car (even over a few weeks) whereas the E5 mpg does not degrade when left the same time in the car.

  38. Just seen my old NX350 for sale on my dealers site and it’s only £2750 more than what they paid me. It had 7 years wear and needed a service so I think I got a very good price and very good service.

  40. I'll be buying a new hybrid just before they are banned unless a) fuel cell cars come forward at a sensible price b) BEV get significant reliable range and much lower charging time and reduce in price, and c) the EV infrastructure improves dramatically. I'm sure I can't be the only one thinking like this...

  41. Just in case, I'm not letting my car anywhere near supermarket fuel and only give it BP or Shell 98/99 E5. Call me paranoid, but for the difference I'm not gonna take the long-term risk (I don't do lots of mileage anyway)

  43. It might be worth posting the car's registration number here (assuming you're not someone who is fearful of putting that out online for all to see) - maybe a member on here previously owned the car and can throw some light on the missing service history. Just a thought.

  45. Fairly certain the timing is adjusted with these sorts of ECU, to what extent I'm not sure but here's the advertising blurb from Japan on a SARD ECU I have in one of my Starlets: Analyse is an ECU set to provide alteration of high boost & rev control at high speed driving, and provides accurate engine control in various conditions, such as partial range, street driving, and engine idling. Resetting items of Analyse: Fuel map resetting. Ignition map resetting. Rev limiter resetting. Speed limiter cancellation. Boost limiter cancellation. It's strongly required to use high-octane gasoline after the replacement of ECU (in Japan "high-octane gasoline" values is 100~101%. * When ordering Analyse, it is required to inform the serial number of your factory standard computer unit. Regardless of minor changes, the serial number of the factory standard computer may be modified. It is very important that buyer inform us the serial number on the factory standard ECU actually mounted on your vehicle helps to prevents unnecessary trouble. Listed are the trade in prices of the factory ECU meaning you are required to send us your factory ECU for Sard re-writing the ECU data. You may contact us for vehicles not listed here in the application chart. Sard is ready with analyzed computers for many different vehicles. Sard will be able to modify your factory computer data. (Note that certain vehicles cannot be modified)" I have dealt with a few other aftermarket versions from Blitz, Mines and JAM in the past which are just a variation on the above mentioning the same advantages. TOMS did produce a Starlet unit but I've never got my hands on one unfortunately. Hope that helps!

  46. Steven Eagell only operates Lexus / Toyota dealerships, unlike operators such as the Marshall Group that cover multiple marques. I think that's a better model than a dealership that may be BMW one month, Jaguar the next and then Lexus.

  47. My take on this is: I have used supermarket fuels for decades and run cars to high mileages without any problems. I found a noticeable drop in economy using the new E10 (over the old spec 95 octane fuel) - strangely not immediately but after a number of months. I switched to the new E5 instead of E10 and the economy went back to previous (or slightly better) levels making the same trips in the same conditions comparing the same supermarket E5 and E10 (in this case the same Sainsbury's). The difference between E10 and E5 fuel economy is between 5% and 10% - I find if E10 is in the tank for some time (a few weeks) the economy definately falls off which doesn't happen with E5. As for performance I can't really tell the difference between E5 and E10 but the car does run noticeably quieter and smoother on E5 - again this is comparing E10 and E5 from the same Sainsbury's. My conclusion from the above was if there is less than 10p (at today's prices) difference between E10 and E5 then using E5 will break even or save me money (and the car seems to run better on E5). Now, Sainsbury's used to be about 6p difference per litre between E10 and E5 (so definitely saving me money) but more recently I noticed the difference has crept up to 10p a litre. I've tried various branded E10 and have not noticed a significant change over the supermarket fuel - for me BP E10 seemed to offer a small improvement, Shell E10 not (in fact I thought it was slightly worse) and so overall I do make a saving using supermarket fuel given the extra cost of branded fuel. The E5 price difference for branded fuels I've tried (which is often more than 10p a litre) could never be more financially economical. About 6 months ago we got a Costco fuel station near to me and so I switched to Costco for the majority of my fuel. The fuel is always a few pence per litre cheaper than even the cheapest supermarket alternative - sometime more - and the difference between their own E5 and E10 is about 7p per litre. So I now use Costco E5 wherever I can. The car runs very quietly and smoothly on this and compared to any branded E5 (BP, Shell etc.) the price difference is some 20p a litre cheaper so a no brainer really.

  48. Hi all - as an update: I called up Lexus HQ who checked their process - they'd carried out everything according to spec so no faults there. I've collected our car this morning but noticed 3 things; 1. Car was not washed despite promise that they would (it's their policy to wash all cars that come through the dealership for any works); 2. They ripped a window shade that was placed in the rear passenger window, the other was bent out of shape; and 3. They (for whatever reason) made a right state of the items in the boot and left my windscreen wiper fluid (5L container) open and without trace of the lid?!) - had I driven away without checking, that would've tipped over and created a right mess, not to mention ruin all the other items in the boot and quite dangerously - right above the hybrid battery pack?! I raised all 3 points with the staff, their response to the above (in order) are; 1. They claim they did wash it - they did not, same bird poop on the roof of the car as when I left it with them and brake dust build up on the rims, same as when I left it with them. 2. They claim they have no reason to remove these - neither do I, they were both fine when I left the car with them and both attached to the windows properly. 3. They again say they have no reason to go into the boot - they claim I must have left it like that when I brought the car to them - there is no way I'd risk damaging the car like this, I also use the boot daily so would've instantly noticed that he lid wasn't on. Furthermore, I have OCD so would've checked the lid is on, tightly, several times before I'd close the boot whenever I use it. Currently having Lexus HQ follow up and contact the dealership manager - apparently there is no manager available until next week. Makes me wonder if that's why the standards have dropped, there's no one to check up on them... So far, they have offered to compensate me for the window shades and played down the windscreen wiper fluid - I've told them I need it investigated properly as it could've done quite a bit of damage to to the car and contents. Will keep anyone interested posted.

  50. Well I wish I had some better news, but the car company just called me to tell me during the cleaning process today (I'm supposed to go to collect the car tomorrow!?) the rear window smashed...apparently it was due to it being so hot and them cleaning it with cold water. Not sure what to do now, totally thrown me off course, I've already arrange everything and paid the deposit...Any advice please?
