  1. Had my 2nd keyfob and locking wheel bolts fitted today whilst car was in for service. Nice surprise when I picked my car up.

  2. Wow 🤩 indeed! How remarkably inconsistent this process is. And my dealer says “Lexus don’t supply locking wheel bolts for the NX any more”. Nor do they acknowledge or recognise this forum - unlike me, where I have picked up so much information I would never otherwise had. Enjoy your surprise! And kudos to your dealer.

  3. The same people voted for Rishi who voted for Liz, Boris, David, Gordon and Tony - their local parliamentary constituencies. We do not have a presidential system. We elect local MPs. The MP who can command the confidence of House of Commons becomes PM - that would usually be the leader of the largest political party there. I do agree though with earlier posts - we’ve given up expecting proper behaviour. Personally I’d pull everyone over with an illegal tint, number plate, loud exhaust etc. The same goes for throwing the book at everyone carrying knives, burglary, theft etc. People need to respect the law again - but I fear it’s going to get much worse before it gets better.

  4. Does GMB stand for 'Grey Metal Box' then? Also, unless you have a particularly rare model, I don't think identifying the type of car one drives really gives much away. Up to you of course as it's a free country, allegedly!

  7. I wouldn’t pay much attention to this guy who describes his cars as a grey one and a red one, many people would be very happy with the performance and dimensions as a city car. (what’s with the 108bhp ?) I’ll be very interested when we see the updated car in the UK………….

  8. My first Lexus was a LS460 SE-L, bought from Lexus Carlisle and the first owner before me was a business owner who specified every extra and pack which in my naivety I thought was all standard equipment, how wrong I was when I began to understand the model compared to less equipped examples. This was my path forever and 6 Lexus cars later, a LS500h being my latest vehicle I never looked back. What a joy it was and it never let me down, nor has any Lexus let me down. I did fit two new upper B post trims due to wear and even re trimmed the lower section in a matching coloured leather despite the original covering being vinyl. A full one dealer only serviced history and Lexus Carlisle turned out to be and still are an exceptional dealership having bought a new ES300h from them in 2019. If you look at my thread titled "So Proud it would be an Understatement" you will see that very car just after I sold it to Phil Walker Car Sales of Sheffield who chased me for 2 months when I was first thinking of selling it. You won't regret a LS460 SE-L

  10. From past experience the exhaust shield becomes loose as the corrosion around the mounting bolt becomes bigger than the bolt head . Fitting a penny washer fixes the problem .

  11. Gods NO! I quite simply don't fit in Bloody Minded W**kers cars, except for their big SUVs and I hate SUVs. Whilst looking for my LS 400/430/460 I tried several 7 series, A8s, S-class & E-class, Phaetons, and Jags,.... and the BMWs were the worst of the bunch for driver space. Even with the adjustable steering wheel out of the way and the seat all the way back I struggled to get into a 7 series. Final cost for the work on the LS was £1670 for both rear wheel bearings, change of diff oil, and a full service (oil, oil-filter, air-filter, pollen filter). Parts cost alone for both bearings was £680. 😲 I have advisories on: - Radiator - corrosion on the trans-oil cooler connections. So I need to decide on whether to get the separate cooler fitted, or just get a new radiator fitted. - One rear ball joint is seized. - Rear brake pipe corrosion. - Rear discs and pads need replacing soon. - Both silencers have loose parts inside so are rattling. - Earth strap to engine broken. - One front strut is weeping, so will need new front air-struts soon. So, once I have paid off the credit card I'll get her booked in to sort all that out. It is nice to no longer have that "whuuuuuum-whuuuuuum-whuuuuuum" when driving. Whilst the LS was down I rented an MG HS for a weekend to visit family. Yes, I know it's an SUV but to get a normal car big enough for me to fit in I'd have to rent an E-class at nearly 3 times the cost of the MG. As it was It was only just big enough for me. It had **SECONDS** of turbo-lag when you put your foot down hard. Do people really think that is acceptable in a car? It had that horrendous "lane assist" crap where it steers you where it thinks you should be going. Disabled that 💩 immediately. Also had constant flashing warnings on the dash, (You're near the speed limit, you're going too fast, you're too close, you're doing it all wrong!). Nag, nag NAG! I hated it all. I am the driver and I make the decisions, not the ****ing car. I am told that you can switch most of it off, but why is it even needed? If someone is that bad a driver, take away their driving licence. If that is an example of modern car "tech" then they can shove it all where the sun don't shine.

  14. If the service history / hybrid health check is maintained you will have an unlimited mileage warranty up to 15-years. The hybrid system will not allow the hybrid battery to fall below a certain level, so the only way the battery would get flat is either due to a fault or left unused for a very substantial period.

  16. Hello zBoomer54, Sorry to hear about the situation you were forced in a difficultsituation to by some little ****. Taking advantage of an mature gentle person like yourself. Coward! Although I live near Manchester. It has its good bits and bad bits, like EVERY place in the UK. You can take the monkey out of the jungle but you can't take the jungle out of the monkey!! There is huge frustrations on the roads. Zillions of cars, queues, red lights. Cyclists. Taxi drivers. Buses etc. Which adds to our STRESS levels. So my advice. Soak it in. You have the beautiful car,put on some chilled music and relax. The nutters we can't control or stop. BTW everyone wants to race me in my Bentlry especially the Gplf GTI and some BMW drivers, but am not bothered about them. However, suprisingly for me. now and then I let go on the ls600hl and smile, it's a nice feeling. Anyway just imagine that nutter must have pulled up against someone, who may have just took a few of his teeth out!!

  17. I think the auto position is when the column goes in when you take the key out and then resets to the same position when you get back in the car . Techstream should be able to disable the auto function , so you can still manually set the column to where you want it using the buttons and it stays where it is unless you move it yourself .

  18. I've just got off the phone to Tein UK. It would appear that there is now a fully active, height adjustable system available for the RCF. I can vouch for the quality of Tein Suspension I had it fitted to my track prepped RX7 and more recently the fully active system fitted to my highly modified Mini Clubvan. I am going to get this fitted to my RCF although my car has the Lexus AVS system this system will blow it out of the water, plus the coil-overs are fully adjustable for ride height. Prices are as follows the four coil-overs i.e. springs and dampers which are the top of the range (I believe less expensive ones are also available ) is £1320.00 And the top of the range EDFC Active Pro control unit is £751.00 these prices are for the units only so you will have to get them fitted at extra cost. I cannot put into words how this system transforms a car, my Mini which was fun to drive was to say the least a bit harsh which was okay for a while. But when I had the Tein system installed it was mind blowing, you could potter-along at a sensible speed and it was truly comfortable, then if you put your foot down it noticeably tightened up. Then when cruising on a motorway it would ride like a limo compared to standard. I believe there are a few Youtube videos of the EDFC Pro Active which are worth checking out. I'm waiting to get price confirmation fro Tein UK later today but I'm certainly going to budget to get it.

  19. So I am driving in Manchester, got in the wrong lane. Indicated to change from middle lane to inner lane, checked mirror and started to move thinking there is space. Car behind accelerates up the inner lane closing the gap and I correct back to middle lane. So, I am frustrated ,because I don't know the road and am in the wrong lane so I am shaking my head at it not even looking at the other driver. Faster than you blink the guy goes past and stops to parks diagonally across my lane forcing me to brake hard to a stop. Next second this chieftain tank steps out in my direction so I open the door without getting out and try to defuse the issue by apologising for my frustration, but the guy is still giving me a mouthful with aggression and looking pretty much as though he is going to take it to the next level. Now years ago he wouldn't have had to move ,because he would have had me in his face, but age is what it is. Hence, I just quietly pointed out I was old enough to be his grandad and with a heart bypass under my belt if he wants to hit me he stands a good chance of killing me so does he want to end his own life behind bars. Another mouthful, but now he gets back in his car and drives off. The moral of the story is when you get old enough you have to make your brain do the heavy lifting that your body can no longer do. However, put a dampener on my day to think how random it can be to just get in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong person. I am truly sorry that Santa left people like this off the prezzy list and they cannot stop being perpetually angry about it, but please do it somewhere else . Addendum, heart bypass does not make anybody more vunerable unless they also have had a heart attack. It's just a change of hose pipes not a blown head gasket, but he didn't look likely to have got past CSE's so I was confident he wouldn't know the difference.😉

If you go into the church you can also relate what you have seen to their register. It's a little bit like peeling back a curtain into history. Even the writing styles through time are a joy to see. Older forms are virtually calligraphy and so precise in the way the letters are formed and sized. It's all a bit too exciting to be a subject for the Boring Men's Club.

  30. Take a lesson from this - even the pictures are black and white ( mostly ) and really .......yawn..... Goodnight. I am thinking of proposing this chap - John Burke - as honorary member. He certainly knows how to make boring things even more mundane - My hero! Any more trouble from you lot and there's more where this came from! See Below if you can stay awake.. The Roman Road up Blackstone Edge, Littleborough Lancashire In 1982 I was freelance writing for magazines and for a year or two around this time had a fairly regular series in Lancashire Magazine called John Burke's Curious Lancashire. In each article I would focus on seven different curiosities - old village pumps, reminders of witchcraft, stocks in churchyards and so on. Anything that was a reminder of times gone by. In April 1982 I parked the car up on the moors above Littleborough near Rochdale. I was born and raised in Rochdale and whilst it has been in Greater Manchester since 1974, it is still in Lancashire the geographical region as far as I'm concerned. I started to climb up the hill from the car. Even in 1982 when I was much younger and shaped somewhat like a racing snake I was soon out of breath before I had reached the curiosity I had come to see. The gradient here is a hefty one in four - for every four feet horizontally, you climb one foot upwards. The Romans were renowned for taking the shortest route. They wouldn't spend time and money building roads round hills - they just went straight up them and over. And this is a Roman road. Getting on for 2000 years old. Better preserved the farther you climb - because once it became no more than a curiosity, people knackered themselves walking up, saw it and turned back I presume! There's a good view looking down at any rate! In this photo we are looking straight down over Littleborough to Rochdale and beyond. On the left is local beauty spot, Hollingworth Lake. Where the road can be seen curving round on the right of the photo - that's where I had left the car... It was impressive. As you get to the better preserved parts you see kerb stones at the edge of the road and a massive gutter in the centre. It may have been just a drainage channel - it does rain a bit at times in Lancashire... It has also been suggested that it could have been to take a brake. I found it tiring enough just walking up on my own. Animals pulling heavy carts or wagons would need a rest going up and would need something to take the weight of the cart or they would be pulled backwards. Carts coming down would need to be held back or the poor animals would be pushed down the hill and crushed by their own loads. Anyway I was impressed enough to return at a later date with colour film in the camera. I've often thought about going back. But perhaps I'll just have another look at these photos... Ah yes... that will do nicely!

  31. OK,, OK! Just to let you cobbleophiles know that this is not going to get you promoted above your station. I know this is a wind-up to your sensitive Chairperson ( ME😁 ). You are in severe - repeat SEVERE danger of making this boring subject interesting. This is NOT the raison d’être of the Boring person's society. Making this boring topic bordering on interesting is, to say the least, akin to perversity ( in the nicest possible way of course ). Any more misdemeanors like this will be treated most harshly. BYW have you seen that Roman road near Halifax, Blackstone edge? I am thinking of going over there one night and nicking them all to do my driveway.

  32. Like you Bob, I view most things with suspicion. Guilty until proven innocent where cars and dealers are concerned. I will take my screwdriver and see how many holes I can find underneath. The dealership itself gets some ropey reviews And a couple mention having an mot but finding things wrong a few days later. Ill see what reaction I get when I ask to call the previous owner to ask about their period owning it.

  34. You are right, this is not for everyone without some experience in electronics. The hardest part is to find the power cables by using a multimeter, and make sure everything is insulated properly after the connections are done. I still recommend the Garmin Mini 2 as a dash cam. Being so small can be easily fitted at front or rear without causing any distraction when driving. Their application is not great for getting video footage from the camera via WiFi, but as long as you can remove the MicroSD card and put it in a laptop you should be good. Their application doesn't split the video in sections (like every 1 min, 3 min) so you end up having a very long video and is very hard to trim by using the app, most of the time is crashing. I didn't use NextBase yet, but my previous dash cam were from Xiaomi and I can say that their software was easy to use and never crashed, the videos were good quality. At the end of the day I recommend any small dash cam which doesn't cause a distraction when driving, without a screen, with WiFi, and a good quality video in which you can read the number plates other cars. Regarding the installation of a dash cam you have 2 options, the simple one is to use a USB from the car to power the dash cam and you can hide the cable under the panels or to get power from the fuse box by using a fitting kit for dash cams that includes all the necessary extras, there's plenty of videos on YouTube on how to do that, and you can hide the cables under the panels. Not hard, but it shouldn't cost much to have it fitted either, it's all up to your budget.

  35. I stumbled on this thread a couple of days ago after collecting my new 450h+ on Thursday and I am very glad to know that the power drain on the 12v battery is potentially a problem if not managed. I only drive short distances and have had the same issue on my last 2 cars. I, like many others, thought that the power from the wall socket would charge the aux battery - wrong! My solution is to connect an LED voltage meter that plugs into the 12v outlet in the cubby under the phone charger (about £6.50 from amazon). When the car is in 'accessory' mode it will show the voltage from the aux battery and in 'ready' mode the system voltage (not of interest here). Slide back the charger drawer and the display can easily be seen. If the reading is 12v (my comfort level) or below, it's time to use an external charger to boost the battery. It doesn't matter if the cheap voltmeter is inaccurate and reads too high or low as it can be 'calibrated' by using a multimeter reading from the battery when its first installed, the error is likely to be fairly consistant - mine reads 0.2-0.3v higher so I take that into account. After only 4 days of ownership my battery was down to 11.7v and needed a serious charge. Probably due to dealership demo and initial setup accessory mode. Thanks to all contributers as your info has saved me from being stuffed with a flat battery only a couple of weeks after taking ownership of what seems to be a great car.

  36. No, they aren’t. E.g. Despite the noise from the Conservatives about pushing back the 2030 ICE ban, the annual BEV sale percentages haven’t changed. Manufacturers are being forced to sell and register BEVs as 22% of their total this year - despite only 16% of the market being BEV last year, and that being a slight dip on the year before. Consumers are not ready, infrastructure is not ready - but on pain of £15k fines per vehicle, politicians continue to force the impossible. US has Trump, across Europe we have all sorts of new & interesting populist parties. At some point, citizens and societies crack - and I think voters are only just getting started after being ignored for decades.

  37. Let me point something out. Badly managed debt taken onto the public books is not a way to lower interest rates. The fact is that debt then impacts the rates you have to offer to attract investment. It doesn't stop there indeed an outflow of investment peessures your currency which in turn is pressure on your rates. The key determinant is exactly what balance of your debt is domestic and what is held by external creditors. You want to understand the economic implications of this situation deep dive into Japanese economics starting about 30 years ago is a very good starting point. China's boom and bust is very much a clone of a forerunner that started in Japan post WW2.

  42. 84931-24030 appears to be the switch below the radio head unit that operates the door so I don't think it will be that.🙂 I thought it was a rare fault but we have seen and chased this or similar on a few cars now and I don't recall anyone reporting that they solved it. The first thing I would do is connect Techstream or a good obd reader to see if there are any stored fault codes. Some of the advanced equipment can send signals to the switches to test operation too. If you can't easily test for codes, it does sound like a wiring /connection / earth fault to me so I would carefully check the fuses and fuse junction box in the boot and if that looks fine then the wiring to the boot lock/latch and the fuel filler release. I would start by pulling fuse 33, to disconnect the fuel flap and test it. If no change, try fuses 36/37 for the boot lock. I think we looked at the following in the past; Fuel flap lock Valet switch connections (glovebox) Master door lock switch on driver's door. Gateway ECU Wiring fault in boot/signs of damp that might cause an issue. The boot release and fuel flap switch connections

  44. For winter tyres 100% 225, they will actually be better for driving in winter, you can also go for 225/50 if you want to keep speedometer indicating somewhat similar speed as before. I had square 225/50 for winter and they were great. For summer, I had 235, 245 and 255 and I probably would go for 225 or 235 in future. Basically, 245 and 255 in my opinion ruins the balance of the car. Lexus did it deliberately, because understeering is considered "safe" by those who can't drive, but I find it just annoying. 225 in front and 235 in rear would give you perfect balance, or as close one could get to it i.e. car would neither understeer, nor oversteer and if you go past the limits all 4 wheels will slide (which in IS250 is not very likely). Square 225 set-up would make IS250 feel like RWD car should and there would be slight oversteer, which could be fun combined with the right skill. And I don't mean it would be unsafe or anything, it is not very powerful car, 225 is plenty to keep it on the road, but the balance will be little bit more natural for RWD, little bit of oversteer. Nice bonus - if you have square 225, then you can rotate the tyres and that means set will last longer as you can wear them down more evenly. Keep best tyres always in the rear. That said 225 will look a little bit silly in the rear on standard wheels and offsets, so 20-25mm hub centric spacer would be nice. Also remember entry-lever IS250 came with 205/55/16... so 225 is really PLENTY for this car.

  45. I am absolutely not condoning violence of any sort, but people need to be careful these days as the person they are abusing may well have a shorter fuse than they. It just isn’t worth it, the world has gone mad. Back in the 1980s, an elderly relative of mine - now sadly long passed - was being abused by a Porsche driving ‘Yuppie’ following a ‘road rage’ incident. At traffic lights the (young) Porsche driver decided to get out of his car and abuse my relative. Unfortunately for him, the elderly gent in a Volvo he was shouting out was a former WW2 Commando. He’d been there, seen horrible things and done horrible things (we assume). Never spoke about it though. With seatbelt unfastened, the Volvo door was opened - hard - into young abusers face. That was swiftly followed by a couple of punches. He learned a lesson that day, via a broken jaw and several lost teeth. Don’t assume the ‘old guy’ is just going to take it. The story goes that a taxi driver (this was London) and a couple of other bystanders had to pull him away forcefully before the police arrived. The red mist had descended, not a side of him I ever saw as a youngster. Charges were never pressed. Different times, but the police on arrival (I’m told) essentially took the position that ‘Yuppie boy’ started it and got what he deserved… Like I said, be careful. You just never know who the other party is…

  46. We do pay, but self evidently not enough to deal with the myriad assortment of issues that afflict our society. Indeed, one could argue that the increasing scale of these issues is outstripping our abilty to pay enough to even maintain a status quo. Now less I lose a sense of perspective here I need to remind myself I meet many more decent, likeable people than the odd ne'er do well who crosses my path.

The emergency filler door release is under the boot floor - this may help. The emergency tailgate release is at the bottom of the back door - you have to crawl in. See my post about my recent failure - there are many others. I have attached a useful document for people who are new to the RX450h - it is the electrical system dismatling guide. However, it has some really useful info in it. Regards Bren RX450_GYL2.pdf

  48. These problems pre date 13 years of Tory government. Indeed it is easy to blame government, but lest we forget the government are elected by voters. You want the blunt harsh reality ? We, the people of this country don't want to pay for the issues you state are the root of the problem. Indeed, we elect govts who act on those wishes. Like most things in life you really want something then be prepared to pay for it.

  49. You have my sympathy. Manchester seems to have more than its fair share of aggressive idiots. We had to stay there for 2 weeks and there were at least 2 nasty incidents from drivers who seemed to enjoy confrontation. I don't understand why, I never understood why they do it because escalation can lead to all sorts of very unpleasant consequences. I just wish there were more ( yes more ) police about. My policy is to ignore them, not make eye contact, wait until they go away and hope that they do not damage anything, if you take them to court they their defence team will get your address and then God knows where that will lead. Believe me I KNOW. A lot of things are recorded nowadays so it pays to let them do the first aggressive act. Only then can you kill them. It is so sad and upsetting that we all have to live amongst this low life. Just be on guard and drive defensively.

  50. I had something similar too recently where I was dropping a friend off at the station and the car behind mine parked up right next to me and started telling me off for blocking him when i stopped to drop off my friend. So i was like if i was really blocking you how come are you parked right next to me and telling me off? And I told him to FO and leave. He got very upset and was like "make me leave" . Agree I should have tried to diffuse the situation.. but it became a bit of an ego battle and things just escalated further. The guy got out of his car and tried to force open my door. I fortunately pulled out my phone started recording him at this point. Told him that he would be hearing from the police. He sat right back in his car gave me a death stare didn't say a word and drove off. Moral of the story pull out your phone and record them if things escalate.. Also make sure your door is locked..Under no circumstance do i recommend getting out of your car or trying to get into a physical brawl. If you record them they know you've got their face and number plate on camera and are unlikely to want to end up with a criminal record.
