  1. I too sometimes get a squeal when applying the brakes but mine emanates from the passenger seat when my wife thinks I'm braking too late!

  2. Happened to me once after 7000miles of ownership…all down to me sitting in the car doing stuff, when the car was NOT in READY MODE. Not happened since, but I do now carry a NOCO GB charger just in case I slip up. Fortunately, I had watched a guy have the same issue in his Taycan, and he didn’t know how to get out of the vehicle (he got really panicky). Double pull on the door handle folks😉

  3. Just logged on for the first time in ages, to see if I’m alone in having problems after the latest software update…and clearly I’m not! Most of my issues seem to be quite common :- Journeys not being tracked, constantly having to accept terms and conditions, no traffic information flows etc. I took the same action as @Harrier Man and reset everything I could find…personal info, restore factory settings, deleted LL+ app, and then reinstalled. Having just spent 30+ minutes in the car (READY MODE ON), I have just about managed to get things back to normal. Having been out a couple of times, the traffic flow is working, and I’m not being asked to accept terms and conditions every time.🤞this has worked. Journeys are still not being recorded though…that I can live with until the car goes in for a service shortly. User Acceptance Testing (UAT) clearly has not been undertaken, before this update was implemented which is very disappointing. I’m a relatively young Lexus owner, so can brave most of this stuff out for myself. Lord help the typical demographic, they must be quite disappointed and frustrated.

  4. Well finally picked up my nice Pearlescent white UX today, they gave me a tank of fuel and I spoke to the sales manager and told him I wasn’t very happy regarding the cockup, he looked about 12 years old ( is that my age ) anyway he blamed it on Listers, just have to learn all the bits and bobs , IE BSM, LTS and lots of others, connected CarPlay would have been nice to have wireless but ha-ho , had £400 unused from service plan so only £17 a month for next 2 services and MOT’s so that’s 3 years covered as just serviced and had it’s first MOT ( bonus ), much easier to get in and out of. 6. Further north we have Nottinghamshire County Council who provide an interactive map showing reports on potholes and the current status for each report. This makes it easy to determine if a pothole has been previously reported and the present status. Derbyshire County Council also have online reporting but update any reports by email so you are unable to tell if other reports for the same pothole have been submitted. Interestingly DCC actually state their responsibilities which to me implies liability should any damage occur due to failing in their duty of care. The problem is because of prior neglect there are so many potholes it would be a full time job just reporting them all! When I do submit a report I always remind the local authority responsible of their Duty of Care and subsequent liability should any damage occur to my car once the report has been confirmed by them.

  7. The battery is not under the bonnet (it's in the boot). However, the jump start points ARE under the bonnet - see pages 727 & 728 of the user manual.

  8. Sounds like you have the climate control "synch" option enabled. You'll notice this button alongside all the other heating controls under the Infotainment screen. If it's highlighted in blue, it will synch both left and right sides. As @AWC has stated, I think your other issues are related to the introduction of the second key. What key is now your primary one? If not already, I would revert to your original key and keep the one you've just received as the spare.

  17. My firm supplies jump start units to the AA and we have it on good authority that the major reason for call outs on BEVs and Hybrids is the 12V battery being flat. The manufacturers have been just too penny pinching with the Ah capacity of the 12V (or to save weight).

  18. The wheel Refurbished was all leading onto the next spend up …fitting a new pair of Pirelli P Zero tyres. Although didn’t go totally to plan….wanted to match the tread pattern and only wanted one tyre, ordered from Asda tyres and had it fitted at a local tyre depot. To my disappointment the tread pattern has been updated, yet I still needed that tyre replaced, so went ahead with it . So now has old and new tread patterns on the same axle ☹️, the old tread patterned tyre had a cut in the side wall …probably not an mot fail but wanted them to match and be safe so bought a second one. This time chose a different supplier, so now have the matching pair I wanted…note to myself….why do new tyres feed so much smoother and quieter on the road ? 😉😉

  19. If the tyres have good tread then keep them ….just use half throttle when drifting it out of roundabouts 😉😉

  20. Well my friends I have just got back from seeing Tim master tec at Lexus Gatwick who has inspected the car and all looks normal so a miracle must have happened. The pothole in question has been coned off so at least i achieved something last night, the prevention of a serious injury or death to a fellow driver but more importantly a motorbike rider who no doubt would have been killed thanks guys for your support 😊

  21. Yep Lucas is right, ive owned imports now for over 20 years and currently pay about £170 for my DC2 Integra-R and its not on specialist insurance. I think if you got back to when the floodgates opened with JDM cars comming over on mass, insurance companies where caught cold and bumped their prices up or wouldnt insure which will be what Linas is talking about. The other myth at the time being you couldnt get parts from UK dealers, i can only speak for Honda here but my local dealer always accomodated me, including have JDM headlight bulbs in stock. Rob

  22. Very interesting to read the comments and observations given I have just connected with a Samsung tag my disabled brother wears around his neck. My sister has been "tracking" him for some time now but it is only in the last few days I have connected via the "Smart Things" app. I've got to say I am well impressed with how it works and given its size, I'd reckon you could hide it where burglar Bill will never find or suspect it. For thirty or so quid it's got to be worth a punt.

  24. As Phil above said, do your best to report as you find them and once the council is notified they then have a duty to log a pot hole. Importantly if anyone subsequently puts in a claim they cannot plead ignorance and say they knew nothing of the offending hole. It might also be the case that your new found "pothole" has already been reported which in turn will make your claim far easier to establish. I typically use "Fill that hole" who in turn report a hole to the responsible council whilst physically displaying its whereabouts on a map. The responsible council is then aware and must inspect/resolve. Surrey County Council also has a reporting facility but frankly I wouldn't trust them as far as I can throw them and invariably after I have reported by "Fill that hole", paint markings of one colour or another is applied. There is then a duty to get the hole or defect repaired in a given time frame. Some of these so called pot holes are more like cave entrances and I frequently see traffic cones inside them to help drivers to avoid. In regards road maintenance, then SCC are bad but West Sussex Council are now worse still. Chalwood could be in either councils area of responsibility a fact that will be established when you file a report by the likes of "Fill that hole". I sincerely hope you get some satisfication and that the responsible council don't play too many silly games as is their normal want!

  28. i only managed to get this photo, but at least it's something. Will call Lexus in the morning. i have filled out a report for the council but don't hold out much hope there, knowing councils as I do from past experiences that's 6 inches deep, hitting it at 50 mph what i car no blow out, but hidden damage must have been done
    1 point
  29. I believe you need to find out if the pothole has been reported previously - if so then if there is any damage to your car you have a stronger claim against the council. If you can get photos then get those along with some reference for size and depth. As the police are there get their details and maybe a statement from them. Personally I would get Lexus to check the car having explained what happened and have a 4 wheel alignment check done and then see what you need to do to make sure the car is sorted and see how and what you can then claim off the council sending details, photos and police report/details. If the pothole was previously reported and they start denying liability I would think a solicitor may be able to apply more leverage. I try and report local potholes for just this reason. The council keep saying they do not need repairing but as I've logged them if I or anyone gets damage there is a stronger case.

  30. It was under warranty (used approved), as well as Relax being in place.
    1 point
  31. Depends on usage and attitude to risk Linas. My extended warranty costs £550, and includes UK and European AA cover. Given that I drive to Europe 2 or 3 times a year, and it's hard or expensive to get Euro cover on older cars, the warranty itself is only costing around £350. That's not bad for an older car, with a lot of expensive things that might go wrong. Like all insurance though it's a gamble, and a matter of peace of mind. The dealer servicing costs me around £260, and once you take off the cost of the hybrid health check there's not a huge saving to be made by going to my local garage. Sure, I could save a few pounds, but it's just not worth it to me.

  32. Yes that is wrong - decent battery should last 3-4 weeks at least. You driving frequently enough. Obviously, once the battery fails it has to be replaced, but you said it was replaced already, so something isn't right. Also if like you say, you need to jump start the car every time you stop, then I just can't see how Lexus can say "everything is fine with the car/battery".

  34. Update on this; it's taken nearly 5 weeks to resolve but seems to be fixed now. Diagnosed as driveshafts - replaced (took 3 weeks to arrive from Japan, fair enough). Noise better but still audible. Replaced axle bushes. Noise better, again, but still audible. Finally, whilst recording for submission to Lexus UK for advice, the source of the remaining noise was found to be - the strut brace, as originally posted. Tightened and - for now - no noises.

  36. Firmer sportier than the ES, as to be expected It is slower 0-30 without the instant hybrid push, but once it picks up in the higher revs it feels more capable. Not missing the rear seat space as I pretty much drive alone anyway, in terms of equipment it is almost the same, sunroof, CarPlay, heated seat and wheel etc, I do really like the heads up display but am really missing the auto start from indoors on a cold morning. The Bose setup is better than the standard Pioneer but no where near the ML I have averaged 30ish around town and hope to get the 45+ on my motorway trip later, so economy is looking OK. I was getting 45-55 in the ES My insurance has halved

  37. Bear in mind that I am no expert and have no inside knowledge so I can only tell you what I think - You've guessed it, disclaimer coming up! I bear no responsibility for what may happen to your system. Of course, everything should be recoverable. In my case, I felt obliged to take some risk as my dealer is 160 miles away. Remember, I'm using an Android phone. If you have Lexus Link Plus version 2.5.2 installed and it was working okay before you did the OTA Navigation Services and Voice Services update, I would leave that alone to start with. If the following doesn't get you going, I would "Clear cache" in the app (from the phone's Settings\Apps\Storage) and try again. If it still didn't work, I would also then "Clear storage" (same place) and try again. Only if the problems persisted would I: clear both caches, delete and reinstall the app. If Lexus Link Plus wasn't working okay before the OTA update; personally, I'd go straight for the reinstall. Now for the scary bit (only because I don't really understand why this works). With the car in Ready mode, in the car Settings, go to Info & Security and press Reset, heed the warning that this will delete your profile. Your personal Info, Bluetooth, etc should be gone, if not, try a reset again. I think I also pressed the Reset option in the Personal Info section as well. Be patient, the car seems a bit slow to respond sometimes; I think it may have to connect with Lexus servers. This delay, and my impatience, may be the reason that I ended up doing 3 resets, I just didn't wait long enough for the first Reset to register. Next I went back to Info & Security. This time, the screen was different, it had 3 agreement options (Not Agree, Agree with Multimedia, Agree with Multimedia and Voice, - or something like that) instead of the two agreement options seen hitherto. Also, the displayed QR code was different, denser, than I had seen before. I scanned the QR code and almost instantly was taken to the next screen. My app was now showing the mileage, charge state, location, last recorded journey, etc as expected. I then went through the Infotainment Settings screens from top to bottom. I found some of my preferences needed to be set again (such as linking my key, pairing with my phone) but others were remembered, presumably stored along with my account info at Lexus. Touch wood, several on/off cycles and a couple of journeys later, and all seems to be well and the connection arrows have remained blue (connected) since performing the above. Hope this helps and works for you. Good Luck!

  40. Hmm, good to know - one in the list of companies to never use. I don't know who told him that but it's utter codswallop. It's perfectly acceptable to do it that way and probably more convenient too, but it's equally as acceptable to connect jump leads to the battery itself, under the floor of the boot. I would imagine that that's the CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) rating. It's good to know, but in reality it doesn't make a difference to the hybrids (a) because it doesn't crank the engine, and (b) it only takes around 20A to get the hybrid system up and running in READY mode. Fingers crossed that it's all sorted for you now mate, and that you can just get down to the business of enjoying the car

  41. No, definitely not done at Halfords. Done by RS Telemetrics who are one of the National Companies that RoadAngel use for their installations. It was a brand new battery he killed. A Panasonic full flooded with removable cell caps for topping up - NOT AGM - that Lexus put in one week before I bought the car. As concerns jump starting it, he had to find out that you must do it via the =ve Post in the relay and fuse box in the engine bay. I can understand that, if you have never done such a Lexus Hybrid car before. The car is a 2018 RX450h Premier and only done 3800 miles. This morning I bought a Toyota drop in replacement battery - the correct size from my local Toyota main dealer. And with the necessary vent pipe outlet. And 540A instead of the Panasonic 460A. £96 versus £230 for the Panasonic one from Lexus. Might be interesting for other users to know that Toyota make a direct drop in replacement! And it is sealed, not open cells like the Panasonic! Fitted it myself with the misses helping and used the micro lithium pack to not lose power during the changeover as Herbie recommended. Problem over ! Thanks everybody - such a good forum.

  42. First of all, this chart is quite useful: I don't know much about the Clarke jump starter but as Machine Mart seem to be the only place selling Clarke stuff, I'd stay away from it just on principle. I've always found Machine Mart to be way overpriced. I got the Tacklife T8, which was about £60 at the time but I believe it's been superceded by an updated model now, something like the one below: These things look small and do indeed have thin leads, but they do pack a punch and will start most cars without even breaking a sweat. This is especially true of hybrids because the system only takes around 20A to achieve READY status. I went for a fairly beefy one so that I could offer a jump start to someone with a conventional car if they needed one, because although it's perfectly safe for a hybrid to receive a jump from a conventional car, you should never use a hybrid to jump a conventional car. Regarding the -ve post in the fusebox that you mention - I'm not sure there is a -ve post in there. If you mean the bare nut that I've connected to in the photo below, that's another +ve one, not a -ve one: If your fuse box is different and it is actually a negative terminal then yes, it would be safe to use it. The advice to use an unpainted nut/screw/bolt as the negative refers to the battery posts. A charging battery can cause gassing and if there are any sparks generated by removal of the negative lead, it could cause an explosion. From an electrical perspective, it makes absolutely no difference whatsoever whether the negative lead is connected directly to the -ve battery post or to some other part of the car. Your final question opens a can of worms. Fitting a larger battery can be done but may require some modification. Electrically, a larger battery will hold charge longer, but is it worth all the faffing around? Only you can answer that one.

  43. Hi Tom, yes I get a very similar experience going along a country lane that is signed at national speed limit (60mph) but the car shows a 40mph limit. It always changes to 60 mph at exactly the same place along the road despite there not being any signage present. The RSA is reputedly using the front camera to indicate the applicable speed limit, however when coming back along this road the speed limit displayed changes from 60mph to 40mph with no signage present.
