Living in the N West as some of us do that rules out about 80% of the year.

Will shortly be joining this section of the LOC as I am scheduled to take delivery of a RX450h+ Premium Plus with panoramic roof next week. Currently have a 2022 NX450h+ Premium Plus with sunroof which in turn replaced a NX300h Luxury with panoramic roof. Have gone for Sonic Platinum with Ammonite Sand interior. Didn't particularly set out to go for the RX450h as I was actually considering a NX450h+ F-sport for the second half of this year, however I sat in an RX450h + in the showroom, was given a test drive and I was smitten! Look forward to future conversations and will post some pics!

Yup I was looking at that one. I spoke to them, and the reason they jacked the price up is because they did the timing belt and water pump. Nice colour and reg number on it though. I tried to buy that grey 2008 model in Bristol that was only £8995 but just missed out on it. It's getting serviced by Lexus Croydon next week and I'll be picking it up the week after. It is on the mileage high side (167,000) but a facelift model for less than 6 grand was too good to pass. So long as it's been looked after (16 Lexus service stamps) I can't see why this car won't do another 167,000 miles. Elite Motor Company are a Lexus specialist and so I think I'm in good hands.

Yes it does take time for everything to appear. I picked up my new RX this week, dealer had registered everything in readiness but first two journeys in the car haven't been recorded. All OK since.

For sale is my 2017 Lexus LC500 V8. The car is immaculately presented throughout with Full Lexus Service History - the last service which was a major service was in 08/2023 at Lexus Leeds. Well equipped by default - heated and cooled full leather seats, heated steering, lane keeping, radar cruise etc - the car was also spec'd with HUD. 2 Previous Owners I purchased the car 2 years ago with 28967 miles in 2021 and car has been my 2nd car - garaged and maintained obsessively - paintwork is excellent - there are some stone chips on the front less than 1mm and only one other chip which measures 4mm but paintwork is excellent - touchless washed when possible, DI rinsed - has been waxed twice with Fusso Wax 99 and topped up every few months - only run on Shell 99 Octane. In the light of all the worries about Lexus RX theft, has any bright spark on this forum come up with any ideas on fitting a hidden switch to disable the car starting? Bit like the switch I fitted to my Ford Thames 100E van about 63 years ago, which cut the supply to the distributor contacts. Yes, I know my RX450h+ is a slightly different beast! Tom

True enough, they are not off roaders. You’ll get people saying it’s a waste of time but it isn’t because it’s dialled in to the stability control so it will handle better. It’ll behave better in the wet too.

All the revised NX range (350h/450h) were equipped with the new security measures I am told so they were all produced from October 21.

Did your NX leave the factory before October 2021? According to Lexus, NX cars from October 2021 have a new security platform which they say means they can't be stolen via the CAN Bus method.

Technically your car is still below the average and good on you for not being afraid of a few miles. The American and Australia example do 250k with drama, it’s just underside corrosion that can be an issue in the UK. lexus with do a safety check as well, so will tell you anything they find. Just don’t rush into any advisory work straight away 👍🏻👍🏻

I believe all NX Phase 2 variants use Lead Acid auxiliary batteries as original equipment.

I am not wanting to replace the battery as I have only just taken delivery of the NX this week, therefore the battery is brand new. I was just curious as to the type of battery it is, but you have answered my question 🙂 I am so used to putting my Prius battery on my smart charger when I go on holiday, so I wanted to do the same as I know how quickly the 12v can discharge if its not used for a couple of weeks or more. I expect the NX is more likely to drop charge due to it being 'connected' which my Prius wasn't. Thanks

Ha ha! Indeed - almost impossible to get an accurate reply from anyone - had the same query a few weeks ago but as you can see from the other thread, I sorted it with a flooded slightly uprated battery. Worth saying that the original was not an AGM in my car. All working well and I can already tell that the new battery lasts way longer with good charge than the old one. Can therefore recommend the Bosch S5005 as a good replacement. Currently £104.09 from EuroCarParts if that's any help! 🙂 Good luck.

I forgot to add that my Lexus app also showed the current build progress. This can be found by selecting garage followed by car purchased.

You can't start most modern cars without the brake light switch working - that's a very easy DIY option. There's also the fuel pump relay if it's not a hybrid. Even the gear selector is electronic - cutting the earth feed to that would stop the car driving.

I have a cat S5 tracker that my insurers required and upgraded to include an immobiliser on that for another £100. Well worth doing. Ghost etc also works but all these solutions are invisible - I've also added a sticker off ebay in the hope the peasants will leave my bumper alone.

Wow- that looks horrible! I had my disassembled my mirror in the past and I can't remember it looking that bad. That is what I ten to do as well, just blast around the block after washing the car and park it and walk around one more time... and there are usually some drip around certain places - 1. is at the end of driver door 2. is this one from the mirror 3. is from the boot when you open it drips on rear quarters 4. is from the fuel filler cap. There may be few more on IS. But basically I just walk around and dry what has come out before it could dry and leave water deposits.

I think the Swindon one was reserved even before the photos went up - and probably quicker than it took me to type this up haha

Is it really a brake problem ? Have you checked and double checked the tyres for bulges or summat not right that's throwing it all awry ? Malc

I have not washed a car for about 10 years. I take the car to the local hand wash ( about £8 ) for a quick wash'n'scratch. They have a method of washing the really dirty gritty lower areas and then use the same unwashed/unrinsed cloth on the bonnet and roof and sides. I like the mottled areas where they missed a bit and the contrasting filthy parts of the wheels that never get touched. It seems beyond reason to wash the car too much when you see the state of the underneath areas. I prefer the good old days when the engine gearbox and diff leaked oil everywhere and kept the underneath of the car protected from salt and grime.

There are 2 Trim Options for my Model Choice & one is perforated seat material that will easily allow a vented seat cushion. Back in the day, I paid 0000's to get heated/cool seats but many Members got cooling by connecting to the rear seat ducting. Tel

Jack the car up until the front wheels (wheel if you do one at a time) are off the ground. Rotate the wheel by hand and listen. If the disc has excessive runout you will hear a definite metallic rubbing sound that occurs with the valve stem (or a chalk mark) in the same position each time. If the runout is normal you will only hear a very light continuous rubbing sound, or a light rubbing that is present for most of the wheels rotation. If the runout is severe, the wheel maybe difficult to rotate and after half a rotation it will make a scraping noise and stop as if the brake had been applied lightly. If the runout is in spec then as mentioned above, and you didn't follow the approved "break-in" procedure for new discs and pads, you may have pad material transferred unevenly onto the surface of the disc. You will need to inspect the discs for uneven patches of discoloration. Excess pad material can usually be removed by flat sanding the braking surface, cleaning the disc with a spray-on brake cleaner, and repeating the correct break-in procedure. Post up what you find after inspecting your brakes. Cheers...

Pad material deposited on the discs can cause a brake judder. A couple of hard stops from speed can remove this but depending on driving style and where one drives can cause a build up again. When you say 'new front brakes' what exactly did you change? If you replaced the discs you may have introduced some dirt or rust between the disc and hub mounting face. The smallest amount can cause a very bad judder. The mounting faces must be scrupulously clean. I'd recommend getting a good garage to check over the brakes, if it is that bad a quick test drive by the technician will illustrate the problem.

The secret is catching them before they start to rust the slam panel….new nuts would also help. Maybe go stainless steel 👍🏻

Well after a month of ownership I’ve decided that bought wisely (and with the help of my Forum Friends) these are incredible value for money. Pound for pound smiles I don’t think they can be beaten. I wanted a car that made me want to drive anywhere and everywhere …… not just to get from A to B but to enjoy the experience of getting there. Im one very happy SC430 owner.

It was the case with the old app and probably still the case that not all services were available straight away. In my case, my dealer had set up my email address with Lexus HQ prior to collection so the car and app could be linked when I picked the car up. All the services were fully working in 3 or 4 days.

Yes, it will stop a relay attack against a key. If you don't want keyless entry then it is better to just disable the feature in the car, that way you don't have to remember to put the key fob into battery save mode every time - you just need to remember to hold your key against the start button to disengage the immobiliser before you start the engine. There are potentially new attacks against remote locking systems with rolling codes that don't rely on relaying the signal from a key - if this becomes a reality for Toyota/Lexus vehicles then disabling smart unlocking, battery saving functional or faraday pouches won't do anything.

Last year when I took my F in for the recall work I was given an RX as a courtesy car and the dealership had indeed deactivated the keyless entry facility via the fob due to having had one of their RX' stolen whilst a member of staff had it for a weekend. So maybe it's something all lexus vehicles have the ability to do.

It is quite difficult without pressure washer. Basically for cleaning you need two key tools to use for cleaning are pressure washer for exterior and vacuum cleaner for interior. You can get around the pressure washer somewhat if you have "jet wash" close to you, that is what I used to do. Go there is more quiet time, maybe early morning or late evening (most importantly not during the day, both because it is busy and because you down want to be in the sun when washing the car). Then I would spray car with APC (all purpose cleaner - that works well as TFR/traffic film remover), wait few minutes for it to mostly soak all the dirt and then pressure wash the car, sadly you have to be quick, they usually only give like 2 minutes, 3 minutes if you lucky. But that is enough to knock down most of lose dirt. Then if nobody is waiting in the queue I would spray wheels with "bleeding" wheel cleaner (basically it is acid that dissolves rust), brush the wheels, tyres and wheel arches, then go over the wheels again with APC, especially around callipers (the APC is usually base, so it nicely neutralises acid in the wheel cleaner), go over badges, grilles, window mouldings etc with detailing brush and APC... basically to knock all dirt that may be stuck in small gaps. And then go over with pressure washer again. It is not ideal as it costs something like £4-6, for just couple of minutes with pressure washer, but that is better than nothing. Just one tip - never use the brush in jet washes, remember the first rule, anything that ever touched the ground should never ouch the paint... and that brush has been on the ground more times than anyone could remember. And once you knocked all lose dirt you can come back home and just continue all the steps with two buckets as before. But even doing "2 buckets technique" without prewash it will just cause more scratches than hand wash around the corner. Then you will need to consider interior cleaning, you don't need to be as careful in interior and there are less steps, but they are important as well. It is decent product, the problem is that for ceramic coating 90% of work is in preparation and 10% is in applying it. The problem is that for £450 Lexus will be skipping that first part which is 90% of end result. So it isn't just ceramic spray, it is professional product, perhaps not the best in the market, but decent enough. Problem is that it will look shaite if not applied properly and Lexus just going to give it to their showroom cleaner to apply and it will never look right. I can put Gtechniq ceramic coating for £40 anytime on somewhat clean car (because that is how much C1 costs), that is really not complicated at all, but it will look shaite, because for ceramic coating (that cures and makes proper had coating) in particular car has to be applied on car which polished to perfection, otherwise any scratches or old waxes/coatings etc. left on pain would be highlighted and just look even worse if car isn't polished prior. So £1000 I assume is for at least 2 stages polish, Gtechniq coating is just last step in process.

Rubber floor mats no longer part of the optional protection pack but Lexus Edinburgh added these. Mud flaps still unavailable so these will be fitted once they are back in stock along with locking wheel bolts.

Tax savings for company cars, and salary sacrifice schemes, means that new EVs are relatively cheap - but with leases typically only being 2 to 3 years in duration means these soon come onto the used car market and private buyers aren't purchasing them at the same rate - hence values have dropped. But having said that the number for sale is not disproportionate. Last year the market share for EVs was 19.7% of all new car sales. This is an industry-wide issue, concerning all vehicle manufacturers and affecting the most popular models first. In order to further reduce the theft risk, we regularly collaborate and share information with insurance associations, police and law enforcement authorities, theft prevention experts and other key stakeholders around the world. This enables us to understand new threats and techniques used by thieves and develop more secured systems. Alongside our efforts, we urge those authorities to focus on reducing the number of thefts. We would also like to see action taken that leads to the end to the online sale of devices used by criminals to steal cars without using the car keys, as these devices serve no purpose other than a criminal one. How do thieves manage to steal cars this way? The thieves disconnect part of the headlamp and use a malicious device to send signals to the control CAN bus (the communication ‘backbone’ within a car) that allow the doors to open and the car to start without the key or remote control. Thieves need to: Purchase a relatively expensive rogue device (third-party ‘emergency start’ device which costs around £2,500 – £4,000 each) Gain physical access to the vehicle’s CAN bus communication wires for an uninterrupted period. The third-party ‘emergency start’ device has the capability to initiate an exploit in the following manner: Once connected to the vehicle’s CAN bus communication wires, the third-party ‘emergency start’ device can send a prioritised series of CAN signals to bypass the vehicle’s security and immobiliser systems, which could allow a thief to unlock the doors and turn the vehicle’s ignition ON. The third-party ‘emergency start’ device is then disconnected. At this point a thief can enter the vehicle and start the car without the key What is Lexus doing to prevent these types of attacks? Lexus takes the issue of car theft very seriously. We are continuously developing technical solutions to make our vehicles more secure to help reduce the risk of theft. In the UK market, an enhanced security hardware was introduced in October 2021 on the latest versions of the models that had previously been targeted by criminals. It is not so much vulnerability of the security systems but more so the growing rise in criminal gangs targeting vehicles for ‘cannibalisation’ and / or complete theft. Instances appear to have been rising significantly from 2019-2020. There are many factors involved and at a global level. This includes parts of the world experiencing parts shortage which results in targeted thefts to supply vehicles and/or parts sent to countries experiencing trade restrictions. When is the enhanced security upgrade going to be available and will it be free of charge? Exact timings are still to be confirmed. We anticipate being able to advise the Lexus Centre network with full details before the end of April 2024. The required enhancement needs to be carried out at a Lexus Centre. Costs are under review and customers may incur a nominal charge. Are new models such as the LBX targeted by thieves? While no car can be considered 100% immune to criminal intent, more recent models are equipped with enhanced security systems aimed at deterring CAN bus type thefts. Given that the rise in this type or car theft has been known for several years in other countries and is growing in the UK why wasn’t I told about this? Lexus takes the issue of car crime very seriously. To protect customers’ vehicles our approach is not to disclose our vehicle theft analysis data. The sharing of information could enable thieves to find ways to circumvent anti–theft technologies or make some models particularly attractive to some thieves and unnecessarily vulnerable to attack. Why are Lexus owners not being invited to install protective plates to their vehicles and why were they only supplied to London Centres? Lexus offers a free of charge VPP (Vehicle Protection Plate) to any RX450h customer. Every Lexus Centre across the UK has access to this part. Parts were issued to London Centres in the first instance in line with where the demand has occurred, but all Centres can order the VPP. The strategy is however, to focus attention not to the roll-out of the VPP but to a sophisticated vehicle enhancement. What is the countermeasure and the plan moving forwards? We are continuously developing technical solutions to make our vehicles more secure and reduce the risk of theft. An enhanced security hardware was introduced in October 2021 on the latest versions of the models that had previously been targeted by criminals. Since then, we have seen a significant drop-off in terms of successful thefts of those models. Also we are able to supply and fit a VPP (Vehicle Protection Plate) to targeted RX models We endeavour to make available another solution that can offer enhanced protection. Why is there no recall for vehicles susceptible to the CAN bus attack? Recall announcements in the UK are guided by very specific guidelines as drawn up by Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). To qualify as a recall, the issue must relate to a safety or thermal type issue where there is potential for injury as a result of vehicle manufacture or component failure. Only in these such circumstances can a recall be announced. In recall circumstances, the DVSA will provide manufacturers access to ownership records for purpose of communication. Instances of theft do not trigger a recall. Will Lexus pay for damage caused by an attempted theft? No. This will need to be addressed by the customer and the vehicle insurers. While we understand theft or attempted theft can be highly upsetting and, in some cases, a costly experience, in such instances customers are first and foremost victims of crime. Lexus does not cover costs associated with criminal activity either under the terms of the warranty or as goodwill. What is the position with insuring affected models? As a manufacturer, we stay close to Lexus Insurance colleagues and indeed all motor insurers. We are aware that in many cases, insurance premiums might have increased as a direct result of vehicle crime. I’d say low 50s is easily achievable in summer. You would need to drive very carefully to average in the 60s over multiple drives. Fuel tank isn’t very big but you should be able to get 400 to 450 miles from a tank full. But these thing are very dependent on driving style and the type of journeys you do.

Sorry I can’t provide a link but I think these came from Amazon a year or so ago , I seem to remember the brand was something like Black night.They have worked faultlessly and I’ve had a number of complements on the look and brightness.
