Had A Crash!

I was coming home from somewhere late last night and was approaching a blind corner. Road conditions weren't too great, pretty wet and dark. Just as i was exiting the corner, a deer ran out onto the road infront of me - I instinctively swerved out of the way onto the otherside of the road and lifted off at the same time (bad move) and started to lose the back end, so I countersteered the other way still off throttle (bad move again). The tail snapped back the other way, the car swapped ends and I went backwards off the road, up a kerb, into and over a roadsign and down into a 6 foot deep ditch.

The good news in all of this is that me and my friend in the car were both unharmed as it was a relatively low speed accident. No-one else was involved either. The bad news is that the whole back end of the car is buckled, the spare wheel is wedged in the well and the rear right wheel is now pointing in towards the centre of the car at about a 5 degree angle. I expect it to be written off really, which is where I could do with some opinions of people in the know.

Its a 1999 T reg SE with 36k on the clock. The insurance say that if the repair bill will cost more than 60% of the value of the car then it will be written off. Add me to the list of crashees!

Im absolutely gutted, but at least no-one was injured.:crybaby::crying:

Glad you're all OK.

I hope you get the car sorted, or get a good price for the write off.

I'm no bodywork expert but it looks pretty broken :crying: .

I did similar to my Astra GTE (piled it in backwards) but the chassis wasn't buckled so it wasn't written off, had it been buckled the bodywork guy said it'd be a write off and to be honest do you want it now it's had chassis damage?

Hope it all works out for ya.

I do fear that if its repaired it will be terrible to drive. Theres a part of me that wants it to be written off for that reason, but I still want my baby back. I also doubt i'll get anything near what i paid for it (9K).

$h :tsktsk: t man. Bet you're a bit peeved off. Good to hear you were both OK.

Is the a sign the the bad luck for Lex drivers is running over into the month of July as well...

Think the car may be safer on the drive until next month... :tomato:

Main thing is that you are both okay.

That looks like a lot of damage, especially what you say about the underneath.

I really wouldn't want that car back.

If it is a write off then the insurance will probably pay out on the current

"middle" value in the "Glass's guide. Taking into account your mileage.

"Glass's " guide May 05 edition

99 T plate SE Auto with 61K £7.200 ( can't get a lower Mls. figure) I would say about £8,00 with your Mls.

Same car on a manual box is around £500 less.

Hope this helps

Terry

I'm only new here but would like to offer my sympathies to you - it sucks. I rolled my car last week (hence looking at an IS200 now)

Complete pain in the back-side. Just got to play the waiting game now. Got to get the private plate off of the car before the documents can go off to the Insurance company )that can take the DVLA up to 7 weeks ! ) then i'm going to have to haggle with the insurance company over the settlement figure :tsktsk:

Hope you get it all sorted but the main thing is you can't be replaced - a car can. Bit of a cliche' but it's true enough.

Here is my mishap for those interested - lost the back end on a corner after the dry spell then the rain, no amount of correction worked for me. This was at 30mph too ! :crying:
