  1. Had this discussion with Ganzoom on a similar thread by saying EV technology is great but its not for everyone well until car manufactures force it down our throats just like the way they are now doing with downsizing turbo charging instead of NA engines . oil companies with their trillion dollar revenue will not sit back and let EV technology take over without having an influence oil generates too much tax revenue for US government to allow EV technology to take over.. some people prefer to hear and smell the sound of an internal combustion engine and exhaust rather than dead silence when driving. and at this moment in time i recon Toyota/Lexus has got things right with the Hybrid technology as its a bit of both technologies combined into one which helps keep costs down. just been on the tesla's website and a Model S 60kw which gives just over 250 miles range on the full charge will set you back over £55,000 where as an IS300h starts at £30,000 so one can save £25,000 buy opting for the IS300h over the 60kw Model S. IS300h takes 14.5 gallons to fill the tank or 66litres so if it returns say 50 mpg in lets say town (urban) driving this equates to 725 miles to a tank full. Petrol is currently £113.9p where i live so it will cost around £75 to fill the tank. lets say one does exactly around 725 miles a month, the £25,000 saved from not buying a model S can go towards fuelling the IS300h so £25,000 / £75 = 333 . so based on this figure if one spends £75 a month to fuel an IS300h to drive 725 miles a month, £25,000 can fuel it for 333 months. 333 months in years is 333 / 12 = 27 years if 0-60 is not of importance to one then going for the IS300h over the cheapest model S Tesla makes more sense as based on these example figures, it will take one 27 years to break even but your 0-60 will be about 3 secs slower compared to the model S60Kw even if it costs £5 to charge model S fully i still would have paid £25,000 more than an equivalent car like IS300h minus the 0-60 performance of course. I think most who can afford it are now jumping onto buy Tesla because its the new Hype new Tech on the block and like any new thing it settles in and no one is interested any more.

  2. I wouldnt be bothered and im picky. Reason as soon as you go over a large speed hump,or hit a big pot hole it will just be the same. And you will be £150.00 lighter. Seems expensive for a bumper repaint anyway, painter i use would charge around a £100.00.

  3. Thanks Chaps for so many active and helpful replies, I have now used a strong dose of Valve/injector Cleaner which helped and then took advice and changed to top quality petrol. Previously i used Super Market petrol but since changing to Super Plus at a Shell/Esso station th pinking is all but gone. I really do treasure my old 1997 Lexus Ls400, having personalised it with Chrome Grill and Wheel Arches and now fitted a Dash Wood Kit, my last effort is to have the wheel centres sprayed to match the lower 'Grey' colour of the car body. Not seen it yet as i am in Germany with the Ls430 which drives like a dream. Lucky old me? Never in my life would i have believed i would own two such wonderful cars, having been a grease monkey in the Army.

  8. I've been doing reearch on Nissan leaf forums to see peoples real life experiences. One thing that strikes me is lithium battery degredation, lost of cells) and also problems with charging to 100% ( apparently is like cycling 200 times to 50%), also what problems with charging to that level brings ( charging and leaving it to sit there without use also damages cells). The recommendation is to charge to 80% and use it, then when longer journeys are needed, charge to 100%. So eve with lonegr journeys on Nissan what is range 100-130miles ? I've not rrsearched for tesla, but if I apply Leaf experience to Tesla, would i not be worried, ?, are there not intrinscis limitation with Lit-Ion batteries in terms of contatnt cycling and cell degardation due to re-charging but also due to time itself.. I would not like to pay so much for a car where a large proportion of the car is made up of such batteries. Hence my point about Li-Ion not up to it for real mass deployent of EV.

  9. Hi John, True I have informed the dealer already and they advised it is ok for Lexus to have it diagnosed. Once I know what the issue is i will call the dealer straight. I rather have lexus fix the issue rather than the dealer. Any way I will consult the dealer before authorising lexus to carryout the repair Thanks Harry

  10. Harry, please remember that it is the dealer you bought from who is required to fix the problem(s), NOT Lexus. If the supplying dealer authorises Lexus to fix, then that`s fine, but do not become involved yourself in trying to effect/arrange the fix. Regards John

  11. Personally I am a bit wary of auctions, but I work in Risk Management... so what do you expect!? I came across an app called Vehicle Smart recently, which you might find useful. Once you have downloaded and installed the app (IOS or Android), all you do is enter the vehicle registration number and make and it pulls out some useful info such as a car full MOT history, including past failures and advisories.

  12. i am pretty sure you can do a hard reset by pressing the on/off button in for about 10 - 15 seconds this can be used if the audio crashes and needs to be restarted.

  16. Its a PITA cleaning a black car - thats why I went white! Its just the dirt really that makes it really annoying to keep on top of. With the black wheels, you are certainly going to be very busy

  17. The bumper is plastic so wont rust or anything and if its not visible then there's not really any point in doing it. BUT, like all things it depends on how bothered you are about it.

  18. Had her diagnosed today by an automatic gearbox specialist. No problems with the box as it threw no codes. The problem is the throttle body. At some time a 'temporary' repair has been made to the part that the throttle and kickdown cables run through. This repair has now given up and snapped,so the cables are 'floating' if you like. I've made an offer on a used throttle body on fleabay, just awaiting reply.

  19. If wear occurred in not a uniform way I would check alignment of tyres, 10000 miles are too few to need change.

  20. Harry, If you bought the car from a dealer just two months ago, then it is his Statutory Responsibility to correct such problems at his expense. Do not allow anyone to attempt to repair or replace anything until you have contacted the dealer and reminded him of his responsibilities and received a response.Do keep us all informed and good luck.. Regards John

  21. If it were me (and I have to get my front brakes looked at), I would go with Lexus parts if possible. The original pads and disks last a heck of a long time, so in long run probably cheaper, though I might investigate Brembo as Steve suggests, as previous experience of them has been good.

  22. Always use pagid from ECP on all the families cars. Never had an issue. You can get conflicting views about everything on Mother Earth if you believe everything written on the WWW.

  23. A couple of things to consider. The LS430 has much more to go wrong due to it being overloaded with gadgets. A good MK4 LS 400 (if you can find one) is probably the most reliable car you could ever own, absolutely bullet proof. The main thing is good history for either car. Good luck with your search, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

  24. Have you checked the manual for FAQs? - You might be lucky and find that it is something simple that you can sort out yourself. I know it's a long shot but... fingers crossed...

  25. I'm now running my LS400 Mk1 on Tesco Momentum, which is considerably cheaper than the other makes of premium fuel (typically only 5p dearer than their "cooking" brew) and it is definitely smoother and peppier at lower revs, ie most of the time. Reckon the mpg improved a little too. I did do an ECU reset before changing to help it learn the different octane rating.

  26. Shouldn't be more than £150 for sure. I got my friends Jag XF done for £150 and that needed a mirror painting, and the full right side of the bumper doing due to a scrape
