  1. Hi Everyone, So a little bit unpredicted and spontaneous I've decided to swap my high millage GEN3 SE-L (facelift) to even higher millage GEN4 premier :) In that thread I just wanted to share some thoughts about how both car compare - hopefully it will be helpful for all those GEN3 owner like myself who consider theirs next car. First of all even if both car looks completely different from outside underneath mechanically they are really similar. Engine, gearbox, brakes, suspension all is very similar. Of course I'm not saying it is the same as there is a improvement in the mpg due to new Atkinson cycle engine + I got feeling that batteries got a little bit more "umpf" :) Nevertheless it is a evolution rather than revolution on that side. On the other side whole interior is a complexity new experience. Again I can see a lot of common with the GEN3 but there is a big improvements. I like new seats (same nice leather), I love new screen. I even like the nav system/management which is almost identical to the GEN3 one. Sound system wise there is no such huge difference that you would expect from looking at the number - 3xx watt vs 8xx. It is a bit louder but not twice, audio source options are the same. It is still very nice audio though. What I don't like is those small handles above doors - in GEN3 they got leather cover while in GEN4 it is just soft plastic. At the end of course there is the boot which is way bigger than before which I also like very much due to a pushchair which is traveling there from time to time. Final question is it worth extra 10-15k ? In my opinion not really, especially if you don't need bigger boot and your GEN3 is running strong. GEN4 are keeping value quite high, while GEN3 are already cheap hence big price difference making nice GEN3 a good bargain. At the end just 3 remarks: - I've noticed that passenger side windscreen nozzle is aiming way lower than driver side one. Is it normal or there is some blockage somewhere ? In the part catalog I've noticed that there are 3 different nozzle with different angles so maybe it should be like even if it is new for me. - Glove box button is a little bit stiff and not so smooth as in GEN3. Should it be like that or is it just mine and need some cleaning/lubrication ? - Some time ago there was a discussion about LED headlamp. As mine got that feature I'm happy to reply for any potential question about it. In short I like them and of course they are way better than GEN3 xenons.

  2. So the @Grey One helped me out with a car can anyone come forward with info on this one,it was one of the first into the country and spent time on the press fleet and is being used on the Manchester launch day. The car never reached its first MOT so presumably it was written off before hand. Big Rat

  3. Hi This is my old car, px'd at Lexus Nottingham two years ago against my current 2012 ISF. The car was a 'good'un' but that was two years ago, and I'm surprised it has only come up for sale now - maybe they've been running it as a pool car? The wheels are original but sprayed black after various bad curbing repairs - I actually think it works well with the colour. Likewise, the steering wheel is a quality aftermarket one I imported from the US - better than the stock cheapie one (have put a similar wheel on my current Lexus), the car also had/ has a cat back exhaust fitted by me. TBH if the price is right and it comes with 2-3 years warranty should be a safe bet unless it has been severely abused since I had it..

  4. Had another part turn up yesterday thanks to co-ordsport (part box) my mishimoto oil sandwich plate is here. Got this trial fitted to just to see how it went on, it can be rotated to sit in what ever position you need for the ports. This will now allow me take an oil feed for the turbo and also fit oil pressure/temp sensors for gauges. Rod bearings are going to be here on monday along with my turbo, cannot wait to get some momentum back to this build! Hope you guys are enjoying the updates, ive been toying with the idea of doing a youtube channel dedicated for the build, not that confident infront of the camera though so we will see how that goes

  10. When the ISF becomes a modern version of the Lotus Carlton, you’ll feature on some Channel 5 documentary! It’s great you’re keeping track of all of them - very useful too!

  11. I looked into this & can tell you that the LED lights that replace them also have a reflector so would pass an MOT. I never did it as I figured fogs & reversing lights are not used very much!! The cost of a LHD lamp for the extra reversing light was also costly. Thanks Pal!!

  13. I was really impressed with the ride in the 300, and I think it has plenty of power. It's frustrating the way some dealers have a very liberal interpretation of "immaculate"

  14. I had a deeper look today, and i believe ive got a light assembly from lhd car or something and it has the led fog light inside the clear lens, and i see a very careful wiring going from the front end of the car to the light assembly, whoevers done it did a decent job at least in wiring. And because light units cant be easily taken apart ill try to source unit with reverse light for both sides to have proper light at the back.

  15. Yeap exactly that one. I was a little bit sceptical but after looking at it, it seems pretty solid. In general I know something more than average about cars and I’m not afraid of high mileage car if correctly looked after. Of course I wouldn’t buy turbo diesel as a high mileage but na petrol I’m not afraid of. Major problem is gearbox oil which wasn’t changed at all. I’ll need to check condition of oil - if still good I’ll change if dirty with sludge better not to risk and just leave it. Have you found anything wrong about it ? I’ve manged to find: - right corner of front bumper was very slightly hit from bottom and resprayed on the car - left rear door probably hit sidewalk once as very gently out of alignment on the rear bottom - when water pump was changed upper hose was taken out wrongly as it got a lot of coolant marking. I’ll just clean it to look nice beside above it is really nice car. Unless I missed something.

  16. Back in Glasgow. 250miles at 75mph with a few opportunities to get the foot down. 36mpg. 14.5p/mile (brimmed the tank when I left and when I arrived home). Pleasantly surprised with the economy so far. Very comfortable car. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  17. This is a different middle section saves over £100.00 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Type-Approved-Direct-Fit-Catalytic-Converter-for-Lexus-IS250-2-5-11-05-07-08/263075110323?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D49129%26meid%3Df1521107d4814794ba6756a517aaf456%26pid%3D100

  19. Nope I don't have but it would be a nice options to have. Of course it was possible to bought that but it was 3k £ + so not many wen for it. Facelift models got it as standard, so maybe next one will have it :) GEN3 was in the 35mpg area. Current one so far is closer to low 40 so there is a difference. Hybrid system is also more effective as in engaging more often. In GEN3 it was mostly active while in stationary traffic where here it also working nicely while cruising slowly through a city - I assume better mpg will show up to. For now it looks like there will be 10-15% better fuel economy so quite good. I haven't found anything new in the entertainment system so far. There is some more customisation options but beside that it is all the same but with updated graphics and more powerful audio output. I've also noticed that DAB antenna gain is lower as same station which was fine now brakes up from time to time. Thanks, so far I'm enjoying it. When I give it a nice wash and wax I'll share some photos.

  21. Sorry I did 29 ft/lbs in the end, just a typo. Interesting this oil change went really well. If I had a 4 poster I could do it in 45 minutes as the 'oil filter flap' in the under tray is just two small screws. Problem is it opens 'away from you'. So. I opened up about 8-9 under tray nuts till the oil filter was exposed. Then a simple sin off- spin on. The total cost was £21. 71p. Yes really. It was Euro Car parts internet on a good weekend at 40% off. The oil is the very very best, i.e. Shell Engine Oil (Helix Ultra Professional AG Engine Oil - 5W-30 - 5ltr) plus a Mann oil filter (made in Germany - We all love that really). Unlike my previous oil change, I lifted the car, did the oil change and then, lowered it before starting the engine. All was well. Starting the engine 'in the air' = the air suspension drops to 4 inches above the floor. Very scary. Noticed the air cleaner is a tad dark so decided on a whole service package from: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Lexus-Service-Kit-LS430/172714797592?fits=Model%3ALS|Cars+Type%3A430&epid=2228869058&hash=item28369aaa18:g:8M8AAOSwcLxYCMIU So, say plus say £20+ for Shell oil, i.e. One can service a LS430 each year, (actually slightly over servicing + the bits) for £80. That seems good to me. Have not 'changed oil/serviced' etc, on a car for ages. The satisfaction of 'doing it properly' is wonderful.

  24. I think I saw that very car working my local town not so long ago. It was parked in the taxi rank and had a yellow light on top. Having said that, it was dark and it could have been a Toyota Avensis. ;) Wheels look wrong colour and steering wheel - was it flat bottomed???

  25. I can simplify that. Fit every new car with a tracker from the factory. If you walk around with a mobile phone you've got one in your pocket anyway so the snooping argument is moot. Your mobile provider has access to that information so the case against letting insurance companies have it too is also irrelevant. If you want to be off the grid then wear sheepskins and live in a cave. If you want to protect your £££££ vehicle then let it be tracked. Many vehicles already have this technology but at the moment we ask it to find the nearest supermarket. There. Sorted. If anyone wants me to look at Arab/Israeli two state solution or what we should do about the glaciers melting just give me a shout. I also find contributions from people who watch too much telly amusing too. The sort of physical violence you may experience in real life isn't reflected in TV drama. It's nasty, vicious and it hurts. And trust me, you're allowed to try and defend yourself regardless of what The Daily Mail may tell you. Battering someone unconscious because they try to steal your car is a different matter entirely.

  27. Mine will be 18 this year, so it is going to celebrate by going out on the town - having a few Jaeger bombs, some vodka chasers, and then hit the disco floor and see if it can chat up some cheeky little Subaru for a blast (or maybe pick a fight with 911). Teenagers !!!!!
