  1. Hi all, I though I would share my latest situation with my CT. A while ago I posted about it using oil and to update the issue.. it is taking about 2litres to top up between services. I had the 160K service done as its on 159K and I told Lexus about the oil consumption and they have agreed under the warranty to fix the problem. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least, as it being a high miler now I was happy to keep topping the oil up. The car is fine and runs really well but on Monday it goes in and it is having new pistons, rings etc and whatever else to fix the problem. Its in for 3 to 4 days. I think I have done well as the warranty which I took out was about £600 and they have already fixed the steering UJ issue and it had a new built in tom-tom Sat Nav fitted when that went faulty. I was always weary of warranties as in the past and from previous experience they always seem to refuse to pay out, but not in this case with the Lexus one.. fantastic. I was wondering what to expect from having the new pistons fitted and your thoughts?

  2. Today’s work Strut arm bushes were pressed out last week, arms de rusted, treated and painted. New bushes pressed in this morning, not the poly bushes I bought but bushes from a Toyota Century - part number 48674-40051. Outer shell was wider than the original bush by a few mm either side so had to make sure it was centred but apart from that they are fine. Once the bushes were in it was full steam ahead. Strut arms are in, shock/arb brackets in, suspension struts back in, drop links are in ready to attach to arb tomorrow. Everything torqued up apart from the strut arm bushes, tomorrow camber will be set as close to were they were before and torqued up as much as I can. I don’t think my torque wrench will go up to 186 lb per ‘whatever’ but the car will be in at Lexus in a few weeks for alignment so they will be torqued up by them once done. Tomorrow will be: new arb bushes to be fitted, drop links attached to arb, camber set and all torqued up. Then it will be fit new discs, refit callipers etc, fit new pads. If it all goes to plan, paint inner wing arches, refit arch liners and undertray. All weather permitting of course.

  3. A black w/ red interior up on autotrader, with ML and S/R, at a reasonable price I would say for the year/ mileage. I presume the seller is not on the forum? I am only curious as it is 7 miles from me and I've never seen it being driven around! Roll up, roll up! 😉 https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201911013923200?advertising-location=at_cars&radius=1500&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly New&onesearchad=New&postcode=gu528aj&sort=price-asc&make=LEXUS&model=GS F&page=1

  4. Well an update from me, I ran an engine flush additive, then, flushing oil, then refilled oil with 0W 20. Early days but not heard the rattle once and engine seems to run much smoother (maybe placebo). Very easy DIY job. But would defo recommend as a first step. Willn update again after a few more months of testing. Ps: info for the flush to get the engine running at idle: To activate maintenance mode (Without using Toyota's Intelligent Tester computer): 1. With foot off the brake pedal, tap the power switch twice to put it into Ignition On mode. (If you see a green READY light come on, you've actually done it with your foot depressing the brake pedal) 2. Leave the shifter in the P position, and then fully depress and release the accelerator pedal fully twice. 3. Move the shift lever to the N position (need to press the shift lock button to allow the lever to shift out of P), and then fully depress and release the accelerator pedal fully twice. 4. Move the shift lever back to the P position, and then fully depress and release the accelerator pedal fully twice. At this point the display will say something like "FWD Maintenance Mode" 5. Then depress the brake pedal and press the power button to start the engine. Do all of this inside 60 seconds. Important: Do not drive vehicle when in maintenance mode. Hope this helps!

  5. Thanks John. I bought my Celsior knowing a rear shock was bad, it had oil misting and bounced a lot. The front is now bouncing but not leaking visibly yet. Sadly there is no way to refurb air shocks. The ones I've ordered are apparently engineered to the LS and (according to their info) made to sit and stay at the correct ride height. The LS430 was made with conventional suspension as well, especially in the US, and I've been in another member's Celsior with coils and I couldn't tell the difference. I've spoken to the guys in the US and they convinced me! They told me they sold 14 kits for the 430 last month alone. Here's hoping. I'm happy to spend on what is otherwise an immaculate car inside, outside and underneath, and it's still only on 69k.

  9. It doesn't really matter. Personally I've always removed the battery and taken it into the garage to charge, but only because running an extension lead out overnight isn't ideal (our garage is storage space rather than a house for the car). It sounds like there's something more involved going on, rather than just a flat battery though. The reason I say this is because the 12V battery of a 'normal' car provides more than 300A to the starter motor for cranking the engine, but hybrids don't require anywhere near as much power. As you'll see from the photo below, my RX450h only draws 15.32A to get the car to the READY state, which should have been very easy for your VW van to provide when you put the jump leads on. I'd be inclined to try with the jump leads again but clean the battery terminals and clamps first and then connect directly to the battery terminals instead of any 'dedicated' or 'special' jump start point.

  13. Hi there I had this issue on an sc430 I had in the past, I replaced all the parts you have, and still had the issue, it turned out to be the variable valve timing solinoid, they are located at the front of the engine, the drivers side one controls the left side, you could either clean it or replace it, I replaced it and all was good. There's a video on you tube showing where it is and how to replace, it's very easy. I bought the part from rockauto, make sure you take the battery terminal off before replacing the sensor Remember bank 1 is the passenger side and back 2 is drivers side

  14. Phil. I cannot fault your reasoning. If you were to replace the car you would have to spend much more than the cost of the parts you are buying with no guarantee you would not end up paying for repair parts for the replacement vehicle. Better the devil you know comes to mind. Good luck with your en-devours. John.

  17. A wonderful response from Lexus, Peter. Difficult to imagine Audi, BMW or Mercedes acting like this. Which Lexus Dealer in Cheshire did you use to pursue the Warranty claim?

  19. Yep... keep the aircon switched on and may sure your don't have air re-circulation switched on. Careful with the latter one though: it is automatically controlled UNLESS you manually select re-circulation.

  21. If you go to Amazon and search for Rocboc Coccyx Cushion Gel Seat Cushion Non-Slip Gel Cushion Relieves Sciatica and Coccyx Pain That will get you to the one I have - yes the heated/cooled seat function won't work as well but you are not supposed to use heated seats with these anyway (it says so in the instructions) but as I rarely used mine its no biggy and its used for long runs (over 20 minutes) its not perfect but better than any of the others I tried.
