  1. On Saturday at about 3pm I ordered these parts from Rockauto, and they were delivered at 11 this morning (Tuesday) That isn't even three days! And less than I thought, £93 all in. And yes I realise they're from the Far East etc but it does make you realise what a massive mark-up there must be on OEM parts.

  2. Hi, changed the tyres on my NX to four Michelin Cross Climates and what a difference they make. Road noise greatly reduced and rides a lot smoother over rough roads. Has completely changed the the way the car rides and drives, well impressive...

  4. I think I have too many on the Celsior with 2 retrofitted integrated rear fog lights, 2 reversing lights, 4 brake lights plus the high level one and 6 rear lights.

  5. There we are then, a list so small it hardly deserves a mention, I bet you wouldn't see that on a German car forum!

  6. Yes, if the security lights doesn't go out you are wasting your time cranking the engine - it will not fire.

  7. I have owned some 20 cars so far and i would have no clue whatsoever of the number of reverse or fog lights. I do remember the power ( or lack of), The way the brakes worked, or not. The steeringfeel ,or lack of. The color, leather or not and sometimes even the music i played or the person that was in the car with me at that time of my life. But the number of reverse lights?

  8. Whatever we say isn't going to help much. Suggest you take one out on a test drive, experience it for yourself?

  9. I guess you won't have a newer Lexus ever again then? Haven't you owned an IS300h before, I assume you survived the ordeal relatively unscathed?

  12. Remove the calliper bolts to access the slide pins then see if they turn with a 17mm spanner on the nut and slide our easily.

  13. Guy just to give you an update. Removed the strut I had suspitions of. No reason I choose the one I did, just thought it was going down faster than the others. Once removed, I got to removing the rust with a toffy hammer (Lexus you should be ashamed). There was LOADS of it. Result. There was a unbelievably tiny pin hole. Now for the repair. Best way, I'm going to see if it can be welded and if not. An old fashined way. Screw with a rubber seal. 3rd option, replace it. New one is around £800. Thanks for the input guys.

  14. In my experience there are 2 problems with these floating calliper brakes. The major problem is certainly stuck slide pins. The other is what Paul Brooksbank mentioned in April. He said 'The pads needing a hammer to remove is quite normal in my experience due to corrosion on the upper and lower edges of the backing plates'. As the rust develops it squeezes the channels in which the pads slide. This causes the pads to become stuck, thus resulting in a premature replacement of pads & discs. I fix this by using a wire brush to remove the rust & then applying a trace of silicon grease to reduce future corrosion of the disc brake cylinder mounting at the undersides of the stainless steel pad support plates.

  16. I also just purchased my 2015 IS (20k miles) last year and I would say to save yourself a future big bill, have the slide pins pro-actively regreased now. I just did a major service on mine and Lexus Sidcup charged me an extra £100 to do all the slide pins when I requested this on top of the standard service items. Once done you probably only need to redo every 20/30k or 2/3 years. My original pads still had 10mm left on them so first regrease due at 5 years of low mileage, sooner if higher mileage.

  18. When you use washable filters which need to be sprayed with some kind of oil every time, there is a possibility that this oil forms a film on the mass air flow sensor, thereby causing it to read wrongly the amount of air entering the engine. It is worth checking and cleaning the maf more often for peak engine performance and fuel economy. I use Vic air filters, OEM to japanese cars and change it at the annual service, about 5000 miles. I live abroad and there is a lot of dust especially in the summer. Chris.

  19. It perhaps should be noted that a discharge level of 50% is considered a deep discharge, and any thing above that level of discharge is likely to cause damage to the battery. Also AGM batteries have a slightly higher cell voltage compared to flooded batteries of around 0.1 volts increasing the fully charged 12 volt battery voltage to 14.2 plus volts. John.

  20. see this video which shows voltage part way through. If you are in Ready mode then the battery is being charged so the voltage will be higher than checking with a meter. To get out of the service menu, press and hold the audio power button for 10 secs until the system reboots.

  21. There are floats that stop fuel getting to the canister so you shouldn't have too much to worry about. The pump is in the tank with a filter in front on most Toyota's so no dirt can get to the pump or fuel system. Not that it is a big problem these days anyway. Fuel is better, stored so there is less moisture than in the past and the vehicle tanks are treated, plated or plastic so rust isn't a problem.

  22. Have you tried any breakers? There are quite a few on ebay if they are willing to take it out but you may have to collect https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1311&_nkw=lexus+gs300+breaking&_sacat=0 Just be aware there was a change in 2000 so check the dates carefully. The later one is available new but expensive!

  23. Series I RX300 - purchased at 77k miles, kept for 5 years and sold at 114k miles. No real expense other than regular servicing, tyres, one sidelight bulb and a couple of O2 sensors. Series II RX400h - purchased around 65k miles, kept for 5 years and sold at 105k miles. Servicing, tyres, 12v aux battery, two front brake disks and a brake sliding pin + rubber. 10 years old and/or 100k miles is really the limit for me to get out before any issues arise.

  26. Well guess what? He rang me today. It turns out he has to give up driving (Parkinson's unfortunately) but I was the first person he thought of getting in touch with. Obviously I have my own now but if anyone is after an extremely low mileage GS300 give me a shout.

  27. Hello, Could UX owners please advise the best cleaning method for the Black wheel arch mouldings and sills. Reluctant to use polish as will leave a "white" residue. Thanks for advice, Paul

  28. Problem is the slide pins on said calipers, they do need regular ( ideally every 6 months) maintainance to keep them free moving but alas this is not a detailed item in any service schedule so it is a case of 'When and Not if' unless you state specifically to have it done at service time or do it yourself.

  29. Just picked up a replacement for my RX400h. A brand new NX300h. I noticed when I got home that only one reverse light was working. Called dealer. They said it was... a feature. ARE YOU FRICKIN' kidding me Lexus!!!! :tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk: I hate this to be my first post but why is Lexus going backwards??? My RX400h had two reverse lights and (I think) two fog lights. This seems to have only one of each. When I see a car with only one reverse light I always think its broken. I always thought it was a legal requirement too...like having two brake lights. Cars have had two reverse lights since the 1960's.. Why oh why the retrograde step? I just don't get it? Feeling let down and angry...sob...
