  1. It’s an utterly brilliant car. Where else can you buy a naturally aspirated rear wheel drive V8 GT that sounds like this, that is so comfortable and well built, with decent dealers? Plus point - nobody else has one. Love mine to bits. Is can bus theft a genuine concern? Yes. One LC has been stolen and recovered, the ex owner stating that’d be his last Lexus. Also have a look at the RX, ES, UX forums which are busier mainly due to there being more cars and more owners. All those forums are full of theft threads. Cars are disappearing almost on a daily basis. There isn’t a week goes by where someone new joins the LOC to state their car has vanished. They knew nothing of this canbus problem until they lost their Lexus. The common link between most of these threads is the ex-owner is planning on staying an ex-owner ie that is their last Lexus. Also look at insurance threads. Lexus owners can’t get sensibly priced insurance in many cases. It’s not at the Land Rover point yet, where insurance is refused point blank, but if Lexus don’t step up and sort this there will be a tipping point for the insurance industry and we simply won’t to be able to get these cars insured. The RX is in the top ten UK most stolen. France has the NX or UX in their top ten. America has the same problem. This is a global failure. Lexus have so far introduced metal plates to protect the canbus access point in the wheel arches for RX ONLY. Fitment is free. They’re not publicising or actively offering it, so unless you have read about it and actually ask your dealer or Lexus customer services you’d never find out about it until your RX is halfway to Dubai. The rest of us are left to fend for ourselves. Lexus’s current position is ‘tough sh t’. I have a tracker for my insurance, but due to the canbus problem I’ve paid extra for an immobiliser, plus added stickers to warn it’s fitted with a tracker. I used trackerteam - recommended. It is most definitely a concern. You could also add a steering lock but based on a car (RX I think) videoed being stolen last week inside three minutes with a steering lock fitted (quiet leafy Surrey!) I don’t see the point. Anyone carrying canbus theft kit won’t be bothered about a steering lock as they’ll have a cordless ULEZ grinder with them as well. These are wonderful cars. I honestly don’t know what I’d replace it with, but if it were stolen it most certainly wouldn’t be another Lexus. That is down to Lexus themselves. The solution : an official recall for every affected car, to fit canbus plates, an immobiliser or revised software. Only when every single car in the country is likely to be protected and therefore unstealable via canbus will the thieves move onto something else. As a potential buyer I’d ask if you could do us all a favour - go to your local dealer and/or phone Lexus themselves, and question them about canbus theft. Tell them you’re thinking of buying their most expensive product, their halo car, their concept car made real, but that you’re really really concerned Lexus don’t care about you as a customer because if they did, they’d issue a recall like JLR have done, and get this vulnerability fixed. Today’s rant over. Stay tuned for more.

  2. Managed to scratch that itch. I previously posted for opinions on a Purple model but pulled the plug on that one. So instead I got this one (hopefully managed to upload a pic or 2) Just given it a good clean after driving it back to France, it appears to be a good solid example with 16 service stamps ( 13 Lexus main dealer + 3 independents). A couple of things need attention:- Brake judder – I've got new ABS sensors and it's in the garage on Thursday to have the brakes cleaned and inspected, it had new discs and pads 2½ years ago but if they have uneven pad wear or disc warp then they'll get replaced. Wheels to be balanced. Door mirror passenger side works a bit but not fully, won't retract fully or tilt when reversing and only moves in/out not up and down. Any pointers would be appreciated. Everything else works fine, a real comfy quiet cruiser, 6 speed auto is smooth as butter and picks it feet up nicely in sports mode.

  3. NX450 delivered in Sept. Last week Dealer advised that Lexus had told them second fob was available, and they have ordered it for me. Didn't receive anything from Lexus. Dealer also advised that locking wheel bolts are being issued to Dealerships, so hopefully not too much longer

  4. I’m being a bit over dramatic but the more I read on the other parts of this site the more peed off I get that Lexus are doing less than the bare minimum. RX owners are still getting their cars stolen because Lexus haven’t contacted them to get the plates fitted. The rest of us are left with zero support. The LC is different I admit, to SUVs as it’s so low volume, and as above, why would an LC be stolen? I’ve never seen a UK damaged car needing parts? My guess is it’d be shipped overseas, whole, the same as the silver LC that was retrieved intact apart from bumper damage from a Dubai bound container by Essex police. I follow their stolen vehicle unit on twitter - it’s wall to wall Lexuses stuffed into containers or cars chopped up for spares. My take is you only live once - go for it - but do all you can to advertise the fact it can’t be stolen via canbus. Steering lock won’t stop theft but an immobiliser might. I have a Scorpion Tracker sticker on the windscreen as that’s the only method I can think of to advertise that ripping the bumper to bits might be a waste of time. Other than that, there’s nothing you can do as an individual owner. It’s only Lexus that can make thieves give up, by protecting every single car via recall. Edited to add YT video to show canbus theft https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUqXxT3CCaA

  5. The saving grace for LC is that they are simply not in demand to be stolen. The hot on the list are SUVs, that is what everyone wants, the parts are in demand, the cars are in demand for exporting etc. LC is just not that car that is on the radar, it is way to rare to for somebody to try to "legitimise" it locally, it is way to rare that somebody would try to rebuild/re-VIN a wreck, it is too expensive and not suitable for driving in Africa. So although technically it may be prone to CANBUS attack, it is simply not the type of car thief target. I would be highly worried about RX and NX, I have seen few ES stolen (really surprises me as to why ES?!), but LC just not the type of car.

  6. If i want accurate sat nav i use apple car play or google maps. The internal Lexus sat nav I’m afraid to say is well below par when compared to our German friends systems…… at present Lexus link+ app doesn’t send destination to car

  7. On the few occasions that I have used the Lexus satnav it has actually been OK. Only once did it direct me in a rather strange route and it has never failed to recognise an address.

  8. Had the car nearly two years now and here's the list of issues................... NONE 90,000 miles, no advisories on last MOT, next MOT is due soon. Full service history. Only money spent was new front grille and new back brakes plus an oil and filter service. A slight intermittent issue is that on a very rare occasion the car stalls when its cold, usually when turning out of the works car park. Not going further with this as its so rare. One other minor issue which did cost me a new battery. Moved the car off the drive without letting the engine continue running. The car would not start the next day. Eventually it did. This is an issue that happens with other cars too, so now i don't do that. Plan on keeping the car until something goes seriously expensively wrong, hope that's a long way off, touch wood. Find the car very reliable and to be honest, quite cheap to run. Fast enough for me, a pleasant commute 20 miles a day. No rust apart from the front anti roll bar, that was sorted out. Still feels like a new car to drive. Sometimes see cheap lease deals but then think what's the point

  9. Morning Folks, This is a separate thread from my 'RX400H O2 sensors' to try and illicit further responses from the Lexus community please? My 2006 RX400H, starts, drives, warms up and then engine cuts out and I have to limp home on the hybrid battery. I have checked and cleaned the MAF and air filter, checked as far as possible the vacuum hoses and even popped out the front bank of spark plugs. I love driving this car but I am at a loss of what to do next, grateful for anybody who may have a clue please? Codes are as follows - P0138 (changed 2 of these), P3190, P3193 and P0A0F. Thanks, JJTJ

  10. Some similarities to you.I was all set to move to Vodafone ,from BT,for my broadband and considering dumping my landline and use my all calls included mobile contract. Spoke a few times to BT and ended up getting a noticeable discount off my broadband and retaining my long standing land line number (Only now for a few incoming calls.).£2.00 month. Win win on broadband and landline. It pays to haggle... Now,let battle commence on car insurance....£200 up to,£600.…I don't think so.

  12. I have a Virgin Media package which does includes a fixed phone line (VoIP in our area rather than traditional telephony) but I've never plugged a phone into the router in the three year's I've had it - we just use our mobile phones and only have the VM phone offering because it is cheaper to have it than not.

  13. I used to be with sky broadband which required a landline. However I have now changed to vodafone and City Fibre. I get 930mbs download speed and use my cordless phone via voip. Accordingly I have no landline. I went into a vodafone shop and accordlingly I managed to get the broadband and unlimited phone calls in uk plus to mobiles included for no extra cost. I also have emergency backup should the fibre network fail and the system changes over to 4g. i kept the same landline number. The knowledgable people say you better having a secondary contact method for backup such as a mobile in case system goes down as voip would not work if this happened. so far after 3 months I very happy. hope this helps.

  14. I would be interested to know what you decide. We have a landline that we don’t use and no one phones now my mother is not with us except the nice man from Amazon saying there is a problem with my account. 🙃 We have fiber to the house from BT for broadband. I am not sure if you need a land line and line rental for the broadband or if you can just have broadband on fiber and use mobiles for voice calls. If you did get rid of the land line, who would you have to tell?

  15. I order CC2’s today and being fitted before Friday. The RZ has 255x45x20” rears and 235x50x20 fronts. I ordered using a local tyre dealer I have used for years - if you find the size you want on the Michelin site it takes you to Blackcircles that then offers local tyre fitters. Good price too as they are giving 10% off with the code Jan10. https://www.michelin.co.uk/auto/tyres/michelin-crossclimate-2

  17. Thanks Colin, interesting and explains why some owners have been told to expect annual updates and I was told that my map didn't need a dealer update (9.8" screen). When out today, the satnav correctly warned me of queueing traffic ahead. Only a couple of BT vans but it was right. Would I have got that with a 14" screen?

  19. Look whose back. Marketplace – 2006 Lexus Sc430 convertible | Facebook Was of course originally at £1750 and probably could be had for that. Messaged the guy who bought it. Lexus lover who bought it on a whim being local. He says he forgot he sold his last one because his knee makes access difficult so having been reminded of that is parting with this one quickly. Do we believe ? Does it matter?. Apparently, he confirmed as we generally thought the previous long term owner had been sacrilegious about maintaining this car and it is apparently in very good nick. The mileage is high of course ,but do we care that much at this price. You could throw another couple of grand at this and still be safe on value if thats all it took to be fully sorted. Posting it here in case oor friend feels like having a close look. The MOT history is very good which kind of backs up the story of a car that's basically only been serviced and looked after regularly at the Lexus dealership. Compared to a lot of the other stuff out there it looks value to me subject to an eyeball and test drive.

  21. There doesn't seem to be any signs of it being caused by a leak, so either it's caused by condensation at some point over the last 15 years, or someone spilled something in that seat. In the photo one of the rubber drain plugs looks really rusty, it turned out to be an old 1p. The only other debris was a rusty paperclip.

  22. Some interior cuts & scuffs so don't be fooled by low mileage or the 'Executive Limited Edition' that doesn't offer much more than a standard SE-L. I'd still be checking door shuts & underside for corrosion. Never heard of Triangle Advante SUV tyres, they're poorly rated and cheap, check if they're all the same or has just one been bought as a fill in. Might soon need replacing for a 'proper' brand (that's £600+). Also ask about drive belt & water pump replacement, if not done already they will need replacing imminently (more money). Good shout by David about the Lexus warranty. Well overpriced in my view, especially for what is clearly a trade-in, but it is a dealership sale so to be expected I guess! Barter. Try playing the 'old junior school' card! 😁 Good luck. 😉

  23. Hey Tesla Model 3, and the original plate is on the invoices and it has a private plate on it now. (if you look clearly one of the pics has the original plate on it). Had car for around 6 months now. If there was more space I would keep it but it won't be possible.

  24. The LC can be stolen the same way as any other Lexus models by the CANBUS , I would fit a Ghost or similar and a visual deterrent, steering lock or driveway post. other than that just enjoy the car, mine will probably be up for sale in April 2025. so start saving. lol

  27. I had the option of getting the protection pack with my NX at the time of ordering but decided against it at the time as the salesman was quoting me something like an extra £10 per month on my monthly payments... I decided to order the boot liner separately after I got the car... This is the one I have. Indeed, expensive but it does fit more or less perfectly. I have to agree with @RXtoNX. Compared to the equivalent 'official' one I had in my previous UX - it does feel rather 'thin' and lightweight in comparison. The rubbery surface of it feels about the same, but whatever backing it's been put onto is certainly a thinner plastic than I remember the one in my UX being. It'll do the job fine, but for £100 - I did expect it to feel more 'robust' than it does.

  34. I don't think I have ever had such a low figure as 10k miles over many decades of driving, I would expect 20K plus, may be 30K. Do you drive fast, corner and brake hard? rapid tyre wear is the penalty of hard driving as well as poor economy. I usually drive up to the speed limits but gentle acceleration, cornering and braking. Bill D.

  36. Hybrids and EVs are a tricky one for immobilisers but I’d expect a ghost should work ok. Advertising the fact it’s fitted may prevent your bumper getting destroyed. The correct solution is Lexus doing what JLR are doing with software upgrades to remove the vulnerabilities, but don’t hold your breath as they don’t seem to care.

  37. In Perspective.. There are Two Types of Car Thieves..Those who are Classed as Professionals Which means Largely your car Is OFF or The Opportunists Who Make up the Majority Of Attempts to Steal your car And if we take Basic Precautions Are Unable to...Sadly all Cars Are At Risk But lexus seem to be a Prime Target..Personally i think a Brick Built Garage with its own secure Alarm system is possibly the best way to secure your pride and joy But Alas not everybody has this facility...My Heart goes out to john in surrey And hope he gets his Beautiful car Returned in a Reasonable Condition Although I Have Grave Doubts......!!!!!

  41. Hello again, no the garage I endorsed JPS auto services is the garage that saved me and who will without doubt keep the old car running long after I’ve gone. They are so proactive in all aspects , there only drawback is the waiting time as they are over whelmed with customers with very expensive performance and luxury cars. The owner actually rally’s and by chance uses the LS 400 engine as he says, they are unbreakable and we have tried in our rallying . I’ll try to put some photographs on here .

  42. You are correct that I had a serious problem due to my garage of more than a decade let me down re changing a timing belt, which snapped. The garage told me the crank had snapped and the engine had no compression, all untrue. Simply down to unreliable maintenance where I was told belt didn’t require replacing.i was to trusting Fortunately I was recommended to an old school workshop who replaced all damaged parts from the timing belt letting go and found two areas of rust from rear wheel sills. All metal cut out and replaced with new. At all stages I was invited to review the cars remedial work and they also provided photos of all work undertaken. After this work , she started on the key first time and is running perfectly. I have no interest in selling her, I was curious , as to value , as I’ve been stopped twice in the street and asked if the car was for sale.

  44. I'm thinking that Tiff has developed this habit now. I thought it was a wire going to the rear dashcam rattling but the more I listen, it does sound like it's coming from the sunroof area. It's odd - Betsy didn't rattle at all. I guess that being a trollop and a tease, Tiff has lower standards though. I think I can make it to the next service before the rattling drives me insane. It puts me off taking my scheissewagen owning colleagues for a spin though. I shall let Leicester know well in advance that it needs fixing so they're prepared. I wouldn't mind but I've never used a sunroof since getting a car with A/C and would be much happier without one...

  45. I installed Carlinklife carplay on my car. This product does exactly what it says it will do. It adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality to your older car. However, since you're adding newer tech to your older car, there are some cons. Let's start with the basics. The module itself was simple and easy to install. The wiring harness that comes with it is very easy to install and use. It did take a little moving around to get everything to fit in place but once I was done, everything slid back together and it looked completely OEM. Starting up the car and getting to the unit's separate screen was easy. Just switch to the AUX input on your oem display. Bluetooth pairing with my Android and iPhone to test both wireless Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay. Both worked perfectly.. Audio quality was decent and the screen was relatively responsive. In conclusion, this beats trying to buy a whole new head unit and installing it yourself with all the adapters and wiring, but of course there are some downsides. For the price, it's worth it in my opinion because it gave me navigation on my car's display.

  46. It’s true. I was also afraid of this at first. Having done it though, it wasn’t all that scary. It was actually a good opportunity to clean below the center console. I also didn’t disconnect the battery. Anyway, to each their own, just wanted to report back on this option to upgrade. I am really pleased with it and would do it again if I ever get another Lexus without CarPlay.

  47. As Royoftherovers says, Relax doesn't cover multimedia anyway. However, even if it did, the usual rule of thumb is that you may invalidate the warranty on whichever thing it is you're working on, but not for the whole car. For instance, modifying the lights may invalidate any lighting claims but it wouldn't invalidate a claim on the brakes or the cooling system etc.

  48. The instructions are in a Chinese form of English and it takes a bit of time to interpret them correctly; however not much can go wrong as the connectors only fit one particular slot on the back of the radio. If anyone has the exact same car as I do (2013 is300h w/ nav & joystick w/o mark levinson) I can provide detailed instructions. The difference with the knob controller (non nav) is that you need to install an extra cable (included in kit) Other screen sizes from later model years also require extra cables that are included in the kit and / or some adjustment to settings. From what I can find on the US forums a lot of people got it to work well though (https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-3rd-gen-2014-present/946189-new-wireless-carplay-androidauto-for-oem-10-25-screen-14.html) Yes you do need to take apart center console and remove glove box to access everything. This takes about 30 min and the video to do it is here. It’s only a couple of screws and with the right precautions (panel removal kit + blankets against scratches) you will be fine. The roadtop kit comes with one box (not two like beat sonic) so the install is actually easier. This is good because the space behind the glove box is a little more cramped with our hybrids (there is some brake modulator there) Link to the roadtop kit: US $288.60 22% Off | Wireless CarPlay for Lexus IS 2014-2019, with Android Auto Mirror Link AirPlay Car Play Functions https://a.aliexpress.com/_mt8igNM get this while you’re at it: US $2.24 40% Off | Car Audio Disassembly Tools Door Clip Panel Trim Removal Tools Kits Car Interior Plastic Disassembly Seesaw Conversion Tool https://a.aliexpress.com/_mNis5MQ The responsiveness of the unit may depend a bit on your phone, I have the 13 pro and CarPlay is high res, smooth and fast like you would expect it to be. The only gripe is the joystick operation, but that too gets better after getting used to it. Also, that’s more of a Lexus problem rather than a roadtop problem. That joystick is the only thing I don’t like about this car. After starting the car the unit will boot automatically within 30 sec and show the CarPlay screen. You can also force start it by long pressing the menu or home button, then it takes like 5-10 sec. There is wireless and wired CarPlay though I prefer the latter as it charges my phone. Lastly I haven’t had the chance to test calling with CarPlay yet. There might be some issues with that and I will report back in a while once I have tested. What I did do was an 8-hour road-trip using Waze and Spotify, which worked flawlessly. Such an improvement, it really changes the whole car feel.
