  1. And so it is just about everywhere in Europe, which doesn’t mean everybody knows it.

  2. In the UK it is a fixed penalty offence to drive with snow on the roof of your car.
    3 points
  3. When you remove snow from the car don’t be lazy and leave any significant amount on the roof. If you brake suddenly it may slide down onto your windscreen and block your view. Or if it blows off onto the road behind it could turn out to be even more of a danger than a discourtesy to other cars.

  4. Take care where you pull up when driving slowly …… unexpected black ice on the road today and knew the rear wheel spinning to “ go” wasn’t a sensible place to stop ……. Very gentle reversing, slipping back to a dry spot to get some grip traction to gently go forwards …… all ok of course BUT just be more aware of your limitations AND take your time to achieve what you wish for I always vow not to take the Ls400 out on snow and ice ….. she’s USELESS , zero traction Will i never learn 😂 Malc

  8. I see the LBX has just won the Car of the Year accolade by What Car. That's quite a boost. Described as first car in its class to combine hybrid efficiency with big car luxury.

  9. So today I test drove the LBX Takumi Design out of the Lexus Bolton dealership.. as mentioned I’ve been an NX owner three times over but am now entering into retirement.. I was surprised with the LBX, I found it technically advanced (over my 2yr old NX), quiet to drive, handled well, responsive, comfortable.. there was a mention of a small boot space.. well I compared it side by side with a UX and found it to be bigger.. clearly not a NX space but that size boot for me is no longer needed.. so all in all impressed.. Order upgraded and delivery expected mid to end of April

  10. It is common for used cars to be kept with minimal fuel in so that in the event of a theft from the forecourt the thieves can’t get far. It does seem common for dealers to not respect their customers cars and drive them in ways the owner would not. For example, the first time I saw my new to me car in the flesh it was doing 80 mph in the fast lane of a dual carriageway on its way to the dealer to meet me for a viewing. I rescued her from the nasty dealers and Pookie is now well cared for and driven with care and respect.

  11. Had my handles changed yesterday, excellent service as always from the team at Leicester. Discussed the cause and changes to rectify the problem so looking forward to easy entry to the car for the rest of the winter I’d definitely recommend getting them changed as soon as you get an inkling of an issue

  14. @RXtoNX It's a regular 'thing' with mine, unfortunately. It'll work perfectly well for a bit but then it'll go several days at a time where it just refuses to work. I can stand right next to the car and get the same message. Yet, as what happened when it was only a few weeks old, I can stand in the middle of a field, the best part of 300yds away and it worked perfectly. 🤔 🤷‍♂️ So yes, as @Hayzee says, I don't think it's down to distance. It's all academic at the moment as I had these this morning - after my phone decided to update itself overnight. No options for remote climate - just an immediate error message and not being able to detect anything about the car other than what it is: Pfffffff..... 🤦‍♂️ I literally have no words...! Well, I do have words to describe this app - but if I actually spoke my mind on here, I'd likely end up with at least a warning so I'll keep those choice words to myself! Anyway - in better news in this freezing weather... Still no issues at all with regards to the door handles. It's been faultless over the course of this week. I've had slightly 'sticky' doors caused by the ice and frozen washer jets this morning, but the actual door handle pressure pad things, which many owners have issues with, are all fine on mine. 👍

  15. Thanks David, I've not had a problem with screenwash and I've used it for years but always open to alternatives and views.

  16. You might be better of using GummiPflege as the spirit/alcohol in screen wash might cause the rubber seals to perish prematurely.

  18. Whether particular model years are affected or not, sh t sticks. They need to sort the problem while they’re still trading. This is a global problem too, it’s not like it’s just the tiny UK market.

  21. Let's not big it up. I was actually having lunch in Bingley with my oldest friend yesterday and Shipley is a small spit away. As for the one and half hours it's not a marathon. I would have been there longer and done the test drive as well, but I just ran out of time having had the lunch set the start time.

  22. Had I not bought mine already, and knowing what I now know, I think I would be happy to pay upfront deposit and have a trip up north. New tyres can be bought for two years road tax saving! And you get 12 month mot and probs 3 month warranty. Pay £15k for one and you might still get original exhaust and shocks. £30 for leather dye sorts interior. Engine good for another 117k miles. Doubt they will budge much on price though. It is Yorkshire.

  23. Very interesting. When I asked to have the plate fitted to my wife's 2015 NX I was simply told the ECU was different and so the (RX) plates did not fit. I was not told the wiring loom was routed differently. I would be interested in seeing if we can obtain more certainty over this. Paul

  24. As above from Tickedon, UWB is a wireless technology that is used in this instance for the vehicle to more accurately determine how near a key fob is to the vehicle using Time of Flight calculations - therefore if your key is 'relayed' from your home to the vehicle it will know and won't unlock. It also potentially allows a UWB capable phone to be used as a key fob. I'm 99% sure the LBX will use authentication on the CAN bus, the same as the Yaris Cross, and therefore isn't susceptible to the common attack we see on the ES and RX but Toyota haven't officially confirmed this.

  25. Definitely recall, I said same thing elsewhere - right thing to do would be to recall every car, but it seems they are not biting that bullet yet. To fix issue properly I assume they need to replace ECU, reprogram it at very least, although I assume if it wasn't designed for encryption it is fundamental enough to warrant replacement. That is a lot of money. Other thing which may happen (and has happened), they may do it for US and leave UK to suffer, UK just isn't their key market and honestly they don't care what happens here in grand scheme of things, they have showed it times and times again over the years. The other problem - this is not considered safety issue so DVLA does not give a flying f... I still think this is consumer protection problem. This isn't individual car, or small number of affected cars... this is issue with ALL the cars for like 5 years period (actually it is broader than I thought, before Colin listed all affected cars, perhaps only saving grace - not all cars are attractive for thieves). On top of that - let's just face it, it didn't come from nowhere, Lexus already had security vulnerability with keyless entry, so they are not Tesla that is coming from nowhere and who didn't know what the "real life" looks like, they knew any vulnerability will be exploited by thieves, they not small company either (Toyota certainly isn't and this is system comes from Toyota, RAV4 is widely known to be one of the most affected cars due to easy access of wiring). So it is absolutelly inexcusable they that they have not considered every aspect of the system. Like engine start and immobilisers has to be isolated from the rest and it should be buried under panels etc. This isn't even new concept - if you tried accessing immobiliser even on old Lexus/ Toyota you would know that is 2 hours job with dash out and then you need to program them once done, which is another 30 minutes. It is just unthinkable that they left CANBUS totally open and you can just plug into it and do whatever you like.

  26. Biggest increase in thefts are Range Rovers and Lexus RXs. A lot of insurers will not insure Range Rovers in London. As for insurance, companies are no longer allowed to differentiate between new and existing customers. In effect existing customers were subsidising new business. What happens now is that as your policy renews the premium drifts upwards. I had a gap of 3 weeks between selling my old car and receiving the new, so I was going to cancel the insurance for those 3 weeks. My Broker advised me to maintain the existing policy, otherwise insuring the Lexus would be treated as new business.

  30. Waiting on a quote coming back to fix/respray the passenger side rear arch which has a semi-circle of rust about 2 cm in diameter and, some bubbling just above the chrome strip in the middle of the driver door. Depending on price and available funds, I may also get the rear bumper which has a few scuffs, resprayed. What joy this car has brought in to my life! I feel blessed to have found it. 🥰 Ouch! That's twice my budget. 😔 I can live with the bumper and could probably touch up the arch myself. I'll maybe just get the door done and a machine polish...

  32. Sounds a tad extreme. I mean I know my tailgate is slow, but by the time I've got from the rear of the car to the front, sat down and put my seabelt on, it's shut by the time I'm ready to drive off. As I get older I suspect it will eventually beat me to the driver's door 🙂

I’ll go off and enjoy my holiday now and resume the search when I get back. I’d much rather be freezing my nadgers off at home but someone’s got to occupy this sunbed in Florida!!!

  37. Alas not yet Piers... Despite days of drying the car with the heater and no rain in the interim the check hybrid system fault still prevails. I took the car to a local garage yesterday - they did a diagnostic on the car and got the same code that the AA had shown me - the dreaded P0AA6 code. They are not able to help me assess if the issue is an actual problem with the hybrid battery or the relay in the battery compartment. I now have to search for someone who can assist. Slowly losing faith and hope in my Lexus

  40. Hello, Interesting views and comments. The first thing we should think of is humanity. All innocent lives are the same and does not matter if you follow a religion or not The second thing is, most of what you think is not what it seems, hidden agendas. If you are having big issues in politics only two things come to mind.. 1. Go to war everyone forgets politics 2. New election, very risky. In any war there are Countries that gain.e.g.Uk/US make profits on selling weapons. So going back to hidden agendas, Israel is not targeting Hamas as much as it is showing strength in the Middle East and saying look we have backing from US etc. Hamas do not represent the Palestinians just like IRA do not represent Ireland, however desolate people have no choice as PLO were ousted out of Palestine, there are no fair politics or rights for the people. Also why have none of the Muslim countries taken Palestians as refugees? Iran may back the Houthis and the Hezbollah, and this is not to do with Palestine as it is a Sunni Muslim population and Iran is a Shi ite Muslim population, so hardly get on with each other, but more on Western intervention. Regarding China.yes they are not happy about Taiwan and also regarding g shipping know that it will hurt Western countries. That is a gamble they want to take. It is chaotic and sad to see what is going on, their are Countries and people that will gain and sadly innocent people will die. It is nothing new. I always say. What is man's greatest invention? The GUN to shoot his own brother!!

  41. If you sell a nearly new car you will definitely take a big financial hit in depreciation. If you keep the car it may get stolen, (but however bad the stats are the majority of vehicles are not stolen), if it is you make an insurance claim, albeit you may not get a full market value pay out. The disadvantage of keeping a car at potential risk is peace of mind and insurance costs. This is my logic at least.

  42. Oddly I have learned from my local Lexus dealer today that the 2016 NX (so I assume 2015-2018) is NOT affected by the CANBUS problem either (as I was requesting the steel plate fitted during my next service). The dealership said that Lexus changed the route of the wiring loom, (presumably as part of the 2018 facelift) so the wheel arch isn’t a weak spot in the pre 2018 facelift NX. Perhaps a cheaper option to consider is to buy a 2016 cherished plate to make your vehicle look older? Anything to deter the thieves!

  45. I had been asking myself the same question and last night found a LSFT video released about a month ago that, whilst not definitive, strongly suggested we are okay as far as CANBUS goes. He refers a lot to the OpenPilot info that Colin references. After I watched it, I went back through many of the 'NX Stolen' threads on this forum; all those I found referred to the older model; further strengthening the argument for the latest model being more secure. I wish Lexus were more open about this (without giving the details away), it would have saved me a few sleepless nights 😉

  46. Going to look at a car this weekend. If anyone hears of any of the normal LC 21" wheels for sale 2nd hand, then please get in touch. Also potentially interested in any after-market 21" wheels, depending on style obviously.

  47. What he said. Speak to owners, complain to your dealers and use social media to question Lexus about their proposed solution (if any). RX gets canbus plates, everybody else gets nothing other than advice to spend hundreds on immobilisers (which do work) or use a steering lock (which don’t work). Jaguar Land Rover have so far recalled 65,000 cars to update software and prevent this sort of theft. Lexus : it’s your turn, while we can still get insurance.
