  1. Did a 100 mile trip from Bristol yesterday mainly motorway at a steady 60mph. 8 deg temperature and raining most of the way so wipers, ac and lights on. Worked out at 2.9miles/kwh which I thought was good for this car in these conditions. On a previous trip from the Reading area a couple of weeks before in better conditions again mostly motorway I got 3.2miles/kwh. Since the update I have also been getting up to 3.5miles/kwh from local driving which I got nowhere near before so overall pleased with the update which has made a significant difference.

  3. These are good news. If one buys a used one ( there is a 23 plate Premium plus for 45K on autotrader for instance), I expect we can just request the update from any Lexus dealer?

  4. yeah, but in other hand I have seen businesses that are like that, who are kind of pervasive when it comes to personal life. I would say... if it is really IT security company, then I assume they would have restrictions on their devices... and by policy I mean - you would not be able to even access prohibited sites, nevermind downloading something or installing something yourself. So if they need to ask employees not to do it on company devices then this is big issue, if they ask employees not to do it on their personal devices... it is also an issue, just different one. I myself also have taken offense to some of the training material (I work in highly regulated sector), because it implied that "I am representing company outside of my work" and I always been very clear, as soon as I finish work I live my private life and I will do whatever I pleased. Also employment tribunal agrees with this view, so any disciplinary action or dismissal outside of work would count as unfair. I have bought several things on facebook and have no issues with it, but I have noticed and I agree that facebook is full of scams, everything that is too goo to be true is not just bargain or good deal, but almost always a scam. Also it seems facebook doesn't take it seriously like other sites (ebay, gumtree), so I am always extra careful when shopping there. But I have seen actually good deals on wheels, some car parts, furniture etc. PC parts seems to be 50% scams, car adverts seems to be like 70% scam, but there are certainly some genuine ones, just don't expect to buy a car that is worth £9,000 for £3,000.

  5. Well my friends I have just got back from seeing Tim master tec at Lexus Gatwick who has inspected the car and all looks normal so a miracle must have happened. The pothole in question has been coned off so at least i achieved something last night, the prevention of a serious injury or death to a fellow driver but more importantly a motorbike rider who no doubt would have been killed thanks guys for your support 😊

  7. Just got my GS back from it's annual service and MOT, 7 years old now but still looks and drives beautifully. Total clean sheet from Lexus, no advisories at all. Thought I'd treat her to a full detail to celebrate. Kudos to Lexus Hedge End for their usual spot on service. I was just thinking, what else could you buy now in the Lexus range (excluding LC/RC-F) that can rival the comfort, power and economy of this GS ? It's a keeper for sure! Dave.

  9. So... I've decided to take the plunge and jump on a 2020 IS 300h F Sport and something I like to do is swap a few things out or add the odd bits to give it a bit more of a personal touch or add things that are a bit more functional than standard Having previously come from a Fiesta, I'm sure you can imagine that I'm feeling a tad stranded given the vast difference in size when it comes to the modding community of the two vehicles... Given the risk of me going on a huge ramble here... These are probably the main points Anything specific worth knowing that I might have missed upon initial searching? Obviously, the LCA bushes are a topic that seem to have been covered to death. That very specific spot below the air box that seems to rust. Admitedly, I saw this after the fact... I;ll have to check on that just before collecting, but I can't imagine it being an issue at this age. I do have a question about the intake... Because there are some roads a tad prone to flooding in my area. It appears that the intake port is pretty much presenting itself once you open the bonnet, which seems unusually high... I mean, I'd figure it is the only intake... But it is definitely taking air from there right? Silly question, but I'd rather be 100% sure given some of the road conditions it could be up against rather than find out it's actually taking air from lower down the hard way. I suppose I may as well ask for tyre recommendations. 220BHP isn't massive by any means, but I'd figure tyres are a tad more important on a RWD 220BHP hybrid than a 15 year old Diesel putting out 68BHP... It's a bit of a step up for me, being my first RWD car as well. I probably won't end up binning it... But I'd rather give myself a good chance of not doing so... I was looking at Cross Climate 2... All seasons seem to be the way to go for our roads, they seem to do particularly well in winter which, given my area, is the primary season of concern and I'm not sure I can justify forking out for rims to somewhat conveniently run winter and summer tyres. Especially with how winters have seemed to flip flop between the switchover point of summer and winter tyres in recent years... So are there any other all seasons worth looking into? Any ideas for mods/accessories worth doing/having? So, having come from a Ford, as you can imagine, ForScan was a friend of mine... Lexus' closest equivalent seems to be Carista, but the app doesn't offer any previews of its function so, has anyone tried it? What's it like? And what options are there when it comes to coding? Infotainment is probably the biggest one here... I wasn't coming across many with the bigger screen, so for now, I'm kinda stuck with the dinky little screen with Nav. I hear a direct replacement to the bigger screen isn't possible without essentially ripping and replacing everything out the centre console... But is that really the case? If so, aftermarket system... Does anyone have any recommendations? IceBoxAuto seems to have a solid system for £730 😨 I mean, worthwhile investment... I got a good 8 years out of the now 15 year old Fiesta, but is there anything else that might be worth considering? Obviously, again, LCA bushes... I was planning to have the GS-F bushes fitted but I suppose if anyone knows of any better options, feel free to suggest them. Wind deflectors are on the list, Hekos will be on shortly after collection. Mats... 🙄 I'll probably get some hood stays (basically just a little safety device for use on failed/failing struts) I suppose air filters are there too.. Not really something I've bothered with. But is anyone running aftermarket filters? Any noticeable changes that make it worthwhile? But bar that... It seems pretty thin out there... I was hoping I could potentially throw some OEM upgrades in there for a fraction of Lexus' cost... But there really doesn't seem to be much of anything out there really... Maybe you guys know of something that could be worth looking into. Guess I still rambled on a bit 😅 Hopefully it wasn't too much of a pain to read.

  10. Agree with colin on the tyres. In London for example you can make do with UHP tyres all year round (I have the good year asymmetric 6) and am quite happy with them generally speaking but in the peak of winter they do feel hard and harsh when cold also they make loud popping noises (crabbing) when setting off in the winter. But if you live in a place where it snows might be worth getting the cc2s they are probably the best all seasons. Also on ordering from China and paying customs its luck of the draw really. i have bought several interior mods, mudflaps and loads of other small bits and bobs from Ali express they all arrive quite promptly within 2 weeks with regular shipping and i have not once paid customs. I even ordered a Chinese android screen once worth ~£500 and didn't have to pay customs. I think if the boxes are bigger they are more likely to be picked up by customs. Else customs probably get millions of parcels from china daily and im sure a lot of them slip under the radar. On the android screens. Yes you do retain all of the button functions on the steering wheel. But the audio is sent to the lexus system via aux so the quality is not as good as if you directly streamed via Bluetooth to the factory system. It does add functionality in terms of android auto etc and looks cool. But i didn't like it...because of the sound quality and the fact that it got confusing with calls being on the lexus factory system but audio and navigation being on the android. Also the overall fit and finish of the unit i bought was not great something about it screamt "unoriginal" and i struggled to live with that and just preferred using my phone with the original system. But you might get a good one just buy one that has many reviews. There are several sellers on ali express and a few different brands like nunoo, navi rider, soarcomer etc. I had a soarcomer unit and it was absolute rubbish and didnt fit correctly avoid this one and avoid this seller. I think navi rider may be better - something i learnt after the fact. With Aliexpress you only have 15 days to return products that are marked free returns and you can return it to their uk warehouse so make sure you install and test the product soonish.

  11. Any decent dealer would install it prior to sale. You can easily tell by the battery state having a % in the display - pre-update this was not available. I am sure the update isn’t a recall as it isn’t a safety issue.

  12. I'm in the UK, I just don't want to advertise where on the internet and the forum software doesn't just give a generic UK option. CC2 are fine all year round in the UK, plenty of members here have them. Actually I'd say it is the perfect country to run them, especially if you aren't in the south (where you can realistically get away with summer tyres all year round if you are careful). Most northern European countries have harsher winters than we do, where they really need proper winter tyres for part of the year. I was happy to have UHP on my GS F, not necessary on my previous IS300h F Sport. You certainly need to retain the standard controls - I think most will support that. You need to make sure whatever unit you are interested in supports then infotainment system you have as there are a couple of different options. I'm not so sure. Many people take the cheap Chinese products and repackage them and sell for a higher price - they might provide helpful installation advise but if they have no control over the firmware/software then you are stuck with bugs until the OEM issues an update, if they ever do. Hopefully other members here who have done this will be able to offer some advice. I've never do it, I just used a phone cradle and my smartphone for improved navigation and access to music etc.

  13. The company I worked for had a 24/7 contract. On call any time of day or night. A worldwide private VPN for all our network traffic use and full monitoring of all their/our remote devices. We were 100% logged in to the servers at all times or nothing worked. If we did not accept those terms ( and their decent salary ) then we were free to leave anytime. Maybe today this could be seen as intrusive but we accepted that basically it was good practice and very safe. We had a " demilitarised" network zone available to outsiders and all the servers were virtual machines that had no physical presence and no way to get at the base systems from outside.. It may help to know that the servers were based in Tel Aviv and were under attack most of the time, so go figure why the security was so absolute. We all learned a lot from these practices.😇. I just wish our banks were half as good as this lot.👮‍♂️

  17. What Gray said above Linas may have been put clearly. Personally I read it as if anyone downloaded it on any works computer. That is a company practice, and especially a security company, a standard practice. I know of someone who many years previously downloaded porn on his computer, which was in a private limited access room, and that many years later got sacked for it. It's quite difficult for me personally to find a genuine sale on Facebook market place. I don't mind that. Apart from the sale of cars I was gobsmacked to see how many scams are on the dating sections. Geez it's like 99.999% scam from what I've seen.

  19. Depending on what kind of "mods" you want availability might not be a big issue. The is300 is very similar to the 3is gas only cars sold in the US and there are several cosmetic mods that you could source and apply to the is300h including fancier led taillights that look like the gen 4 is, RGB DRLs, Bodykits, spoilers etc. As far as performance mods go i dont think you can do any with this hybrid system. Even air filters - just go with stock its pretty pointless running a k&n etc on this set up. As far as a larger screen goes plenty of chinese Android options out there. They work well but are a bit clunky to use as you end up with 2 systems the cars original system + the chinese android. Quality is a hit or miss with these but it might work well for you if a big screen is what you want. They normally cost around 4-500 Also in the UK i highly recommend mudflaps and rubber mats. Theyre awesome.

  20. Check the forum. There's plenty of informative posts for mods, tires etc. My view: - tires: personally the CC2 were a step back in driving experience. I've gone back to UHP tires. - mods: TPMS details in console display with a 30€ module from Ali 😁 - Android Carplay unit - Sound deadening - Space saver spare wheel - Rubber boot mat But foremost, just enjoy the car! It's worth it.

  21. Not sure you would need to replace the LCAs on a 2020 vehicle. Air intake is high, at the bonnet level, but not sure if the resonator is air/water tight that sits lower so I wouldn't be submerging the vehicle in any deep water. CC2 tyres are a good choice. Not the ultimate in performance or economy but suit the IS300h quite well and give good grip all year round. Carista is a good way to change the vehicle customisations that aren't available through the in-car menus. It can be expensive to subscribe long term but most people would only need one month's access and then don't touch it again. If you look in the owners manual at the customisations there are a bunch of options that are dealer configurable only - these you will be able to alter with Carista - e.g. how many indicator flashes on a light press of the stalk, how long the headlight stay on after you exit the car etc. Standard infotainment is a bit rubbish. Many of the Android based third party options have good features but are flakey in operation. Aftermarket air filters - directly OEM replacements are ok to save a couple of ££, although may not filter as well. So called performance ones are a complete waste of money on the IS300h unless you go for a complete induction kit - and even then the gains would be minimal at best.

  22. Hi Tom and welcome to the best Lexus forum there is. You're dead right. The 2is is getting older but so are you and we all. The 2is however is undoubtedly one of the greatest cars ever built. If you're prepared to look after one then it'll out live you. It's that simple. By look after it I mean treat it as you'd treat your child, for instance. Yes you could spend a few hundred quid a year on one But just think. How much to buy a much newer car? About a couple decades ownership of a 2is worth that's how much.

  23. You are so right Paul. I've just had my council tax bill for the new year and they have put a £30 levy to help fund their gold plated pensions. Yet my private pension was reduced after a certain Mr Brown withdrew dividend tax credit all those years ago which finished off DB pension in the private sector years ago. I know this is not the place for this type of conversation but it annoys me that I have to fund a gold plated public sector pension out of my reduced private sector pension. Rant over and mods feel free to delete my post if you think it is inappropriate.

  24. If they are now at the stage of cutting the wiring loom to gain access they would not even need to smash the plate. The plate only covers the connector area, not the entire loom. This was only a matter of time. The plate should have bought enough time to engineer a software fix.... But here we are still discussing the lack of solution...

  25. Is there any theme to where these attempted thefts take place? On a side street, supermarket carpark, at home on the drive etc? Or totally random?

  26. Must admit I don’t find them gimmicky. I’ve had them on all of my cars since 2013 and find that they are a great help turning in to country lanes and a driveway on a dark country lane. I also think that you will find them fitted to most cars these days.
    1 point
  27. You will probably find that a large percentage of the council tax levy is used towards funding their gold plated defined benefit pension schemes. This is one area of spend breakdown that they never provide. These schemes are so costly to keep funded that they were closed by private businesses many years ago.

  28. Talking about quality and value for money - This is from a local restaurant in the South of France near where we lived, from their website recently. Includes a quarter litre of GOOD local house wine. You would be lucky to get away with the equivalent of €20 over here and that would not be fresh local food but would include a glass of the most awful mass produced plonk.

  31. I think you are asking the right question ,but to the wrong people. Ask the dealership exactly what they are intending to do before they do it. As mentioned in an earlier post this won't be an inhouse job as it requires specialist skills and equipment. Obviously take pics of the seat and indeed the areas around the seat so that you can clearly show the condition it was in when you left it in their care. Just a precaution.

A neighbour of mine tells the story of how he was recently pulled over and breathalysed (with a negative result) by police who didn't believe he had been swerving in order to avoid potholes and the occasional loose kerbstone on a road near where we live. Driving back along the same stretch an hour later, and suppressing his instinct to honk and wave in recognition, he saw, to his joy and delight, the same two policemen replacing what looked like a burst tyre on their car.

  43. An interesting and useful comparison. My car is a GS300h Premier, pre face lift. A couple of nit-picks: My car has RCTA and head-up display. It has 18" wheels and the larger discs - I didn't know 17" wheels wouldn't fit but can well believe it. The sat nav shows speed limits (not always accurately, but my last map update was 2019). I think that improvements/spec changes are incremental and come in randomly during model life, so some pre face lift will have features that others don't and that probably carries on for post face lift as well. I don't think the ride is all that wonderful - I'd agree with the post somewhere that gave it 6/10. I understand that pre facelift cars are Euro V and post are Euro VI My road tax is £25 per annum. I love my car and expect to keep it for many years!

  45. I have a phase 4 facelift GS450h Premier, and previously had a pre-face lift GS450h Premier. The premier and f sport GS450h have larger front disc brakes and 17” wheels will not fit. I am unsure about the GS300h. The Newer car has 19” wheels, the ride is OK, but the tyres and wheels are more likely to be damaged by kerbs and bumps I think. The facelift drives and rides better than the previous model. I would get the facelift if you can. My notes are below: I have listed the differences between the pre and post face-lift premier cars. Face lift has the Lexus Safety System + LSS+ - Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) - Pre-Crash Safety system (PCS) - Lane Keep Assist (LKA) - Sway Warning - Traffic Signal Recognition (TSR) - Automatic High Beam system Facelift has Blind spot BSM and rear cross traffic alert RCTA, Pre-face-lift only has Blind spot indicator. Head-up display. This became available in around 2015 in the GS as I think an optional extra. It is standard in the facelift. Headlights. Facelift has 3 Eye LED headlamps with AHS (Adaptive High-beam System) Pre face lift has headlights that point toward direction of steering, but do not blank out light to other road users on full beam. Interior. Facelift analogue clock is automatically set by GPS or similar which is handy whereas pre-facelift car is manually set. Main display is split screen so two different items may be displayed, Sat Nav is updated, though there appears to be no speed limit display or recognition on the sat nav that I can find. Steering wheel display is much more comprehensive, the LSS+ features can be set here. Heated steering wheel with wood rim in facelift, compared with full leather no heating in older car. Display controls in front of armrest are more comprehensive and better. Rear camera picture quality is markedly improved in facelift. Seat patterns are slightly different but the seats feel and adjust the same. In the facelift I have set the seat heating so it come on when the car starts and stays on at 3 bars, features I could not do in previous car. Driving; comparing a 25k newer car with a 80k older car. The steering on the facelift is much more direct and not at all vague. The suspension is much better, with fewer crashes in potholes and none of the very slight swaying in older car. I would have thought the engine and transmission are pretty much identical, and the consumption figures so far a very similar (about 40mpg in summer.) Drive mode for facelift includes the ‘customise’ setting where you can specify desired throttle response, suspension and eco/normal aircon settings. I was worried that the ride would be harsh on the 19” wheels compared to the older car’s 18” wheels, but it is fine. Overall the facelift is a better car due to the improved steering, suspension, LSS+ features and displays.

  47. I reset the average mpg on filling the tank. Having travelled 405.1 miles I then refilled and calculated the fuel economy. The reading on the dash indicated an average of 54.1 however, on calculating my fuel usage (4.546 litres gallon equivalent) I was astonished at the accuracy as my calculations revealed 54.61 mpg. Although using the same filling station the only variable could have been a different pump dispensing a slightly different amount - I always stop at the first click. Never had any car where the car's estimation was so close to real world results.

To round this off…spoke to local Lexus salesman, they did paint protection at around £400, he didn’t sound too keen on it and even told us what day to book it in as they had one good valeter and one not so good !!! Plus they did it outside in under a day, needless to say we passed. Had to wait for 2 months as he’s that busy but it went in yesterday (Monday) to Mark at Detail Thugga, who is not too far away, for a proper full polish and ceramic coating session for 3 days. God knows how shiney it will be, this is it after the first day, more to come apparently, other pics on his farcebook page.
