  1. Quick update. Thanks in no small part to the help and advice of members here, I picked up my new green/tan LC Convertible yesterday with my desired wheels. I'm no photographer but the pic below gives an indication despite dank conditions. I'm told it's a 1/1 in the UK and Europe due to the wheels and it even has the bespoke build badge. It really is a lovely thing and I couldn't be happier so far!

  2. I wrote to both the President and Managing Director and Head of UK Operations (Director of Lexus UK) and the Chief Operating Officer Toyota Motor group Europe on 12th March and today received a letter back stating in writing that my model of NX300h 'IS NOT susceptible to this attack method as the technology which enables CAN Bus theft is not on your car, due to its production date'. My car is a 2017 Plate model F Sport with Premium pack. The letter was from Stephen Hinshelwood, Executive Office, Toyota (GB) PLC. I'm still going to remove both inner splash guards to have a look for myself and probably make some plates up to cover whatever I find. I'm also toying with having the attached made and fitting it to each side under the car, where they attack.

  3. Yes, I know who they are owned by. If we were all wired the same and did the same, wouldn't it be a boring existence? There is no right or wrong, we generate income and have the freedom to spend how we want. I suppose because I had jobs with company cars for a long time - often changing at shorter intervals than 2 or 3 years, I have that mindset. As I said before, I am now looking at retirement and whilst I still can, I am changing. It may be that I end up keeping this one for many years, but I doubt it.

  4. Hi, I've had my 1998 century for about 3yrs now. Had it fully serviced by Toyota (they loved working on it) have only had to change the starter motor. Once you've driven one, there's no going back. It puts a smile on everyone's face. Buy one! Enjoy! They are works of art that need preserving. Thinking of selling mine in the summer to get a newer one.

  6. So sorry to hear of your loss, Alan. I can understand how the diversion of a new car could be a welcome distraction at such a difficult time. 🙁

  9. Yesterday we took a 120 mile test drive in an LBX ( Premium Design) ….some commentary……… 1. Handling was actually much better than I thought, went into and out of corners very well. They have done something to the suspension which makes it very appealing. 2. Overall fit and finish inside looked very good quality.A well put together vehicle. It felt like a vehicle that would be good enough and comfortable enough for a longish journey, quite a nice place to be. 3. The interchange between the combustion engine and the battery was flawless. We were stuck in a traffic tailback and all of this was covered in battery. 4.The vehicle looks very good although I’m not a Lexus aficionado it feels like they have had their A design team on this project. 5. One critical comment would be on more demanding Scottish A class hilly roads it does feel a little underpowered or putting it another way if you want to access more power you need to rev the engine quite high +4.5k revs. I presume this is a feature of eCVT. Anyway not sure if this detail helps anyone. I’m trying a Lexus since I have had loads of German cars and apart from Porsche I think their quality is going south. This is a daily driver type vehicle. Was going to get a Takumi Design but the suede looks doomed to be attacked by the sticky fingers of my grandchildren. I have ordered a Premium Design Plus ….(wife likes the two tone look), delivery early May. Insurance will be via NFU as per my previous thread.

  10. I do find with the RX that despite all the cameras and colourful lines parking is still tricky due to its length. There’s a surprising amount of space used at the front end of the car which makes parking in multi story parking spaces interesting. Earlier this week I reversed into a space until the braking warning stopped the car and was told by my wife that the nose was sticking out by about 3 feet (I assumed she meant the car not me!). It was due to the concrete supporting pillars so I moved to a more open part of the car park and just managed to get parked with a minor overhang of the marked space at the front. Best wishes for enjoying your new RX, I look forward to seeing your future posts

  12. A quick update to say that the car arrived and collected. It’s lovely and enjoyable to drive. Much more fun than previous one (UX) and I should say technology/gadgets improved a lot since 2020 when I bought UX.

  14. FWIIW I have never ridden on any heated seat that did not toast my backside within a few minutes. I think this is one of those common sense things. When the heated seat really isn't working right a blind man on a fast horse can tell. In which case your dealership needed a boot up the backside, because from your statement above what you have got is not fit for purpose under any test of reasonableness.

  16. Will shortly be joining this section of the LOC as I am scheduled to take delivery of a RX450h+ Premium Plus with panoramic roof next week. Currently have a 2022 NX450h+ Premium Plus with sunroof which in turn replaced a NX300h Luxury with panoramic roof. Have gone for Sonic Platinum with Ammonite Sand interior. Didn't particularly set out to go for the RX450h as I was actually considering a NX450h+ F-sport for the second half of this year, however I sat in an RX450h + in the showroom, was given a test drive and I was smitten! Look forward to future conversations and will post some pics!

  17. Does anyone know if it’s normal for comparison websites and insurers to be so slow to add new cars to their quotation systems? Or is it just the likes of Lexus that insurers are so reticent to quote for? I have previously bought cars in their 2nd or 3rd year of production and never had a problem getting dozens of competing insurance offers.

  19. Delighted, that once again apart from a couple of wiper blades the 2014 passed the MOT with no advisories and no additional service costs. I just have to login to DVLA and get the free car tax done now. The service dept also informed me that because the car is not 10 yrs old for another 3 weeks, the service gives me Relax warranty cover for another full year. They also confirmed my 5 year old battery condition was adequate in spite of my concerns over the low voltage displayed. So all in all a cheap year of less than £100 apart from the service contract plan payments. Lets see what the next service contract looks like.

  24. Whilst sales were not helpful, the Lexus Chester service desk were all over it. I phoned to book an MoT service and they said they were fielding lots of calls after the BBC exposure. They have a metal plate solution for the RX (or NX, I can't recall) and are awaiting parts. They are doing those first and awaiting news from Lexus HQ about other models' vulnerability and fixes.

  28. They've been after ours for a while, but the CT is by far the most bullet proof car we have owned. Ours is now back to looking as new and maintained regardless of cost. Unfortunately for the dealer the bulk of his offerings although newer, look no better and most have higher mileage, and would mean me parting with a decent wedge for basically a newer reg plate, and as I have a private plate to put on it at some stage it seems a no brainer for me. Of course things could change today as it's in for Service and MOT 😆

  29. Now that’s another joke, isn’t it Alan, you wag! 😄 And I don’t know about your neighbours, but its certainly impressed me! 👍 I do recall that when I had to work for a living, our accountants would recommend changing cars every three years as being the most efficient way of running them. I always preferred to buy them outright - or buy them once the particular lease arrangement had expired. But I hope that the new one will give you at least as much pleasure as the current one.

  30. No Len, I am getting a different colour although the comment about colour change was a joke about ensuring the neighbours know I've got a new car. You are never going to win buying and selling cars (sometimes even if you are a dealer)! I'm getting a new 24 reg one. I am fortunate in being able to do it, I bought it in February when there was an offer on, got both a discount and a good price for the p/x (£6k better than WBAC), although I didn't shop around. Also, they have transferred my pre-paid service contract so I've got 2 years with only RFL & insurance to pay (touch wood). 🫰 This may be my last 'family-size' car, so I'm just kicking that decision a bit further into the long grass. In typing this, Len, you've made me think - maybe I should cancel 😂

  32. Superb Glyn, your car is a wonderful example. With regard to the roof rattle I cured mine (which sounded like it was coming from a similar location as yours) buy winding a little tape around the 2 roof pins that locate into the top of the windscreen - overlap the tape to the top of the pin where it begins to curve. It firms everything up over the entire roof. Use fabric tape not duck tape as it's to sticky and can pull off the pins upon opening the roof and lodge inside which blocks the switch open preventing the roof from closing until removed. I'll probably look at mine again next month as it's been working fine for a year.

  35. Will certainly keep in touch with the NX forum! Thanks for all your comments over the last couple of years and your analysis on EV range. Delivery scheduled for next week. I attended the Lexus Edinburgh VIP event last month with the possibility of changing to a NX450h+ F-sport however the colour/trim options available didn't suit despite a great offer on a Graphite/Black & white trim combo. I just didn't want another Graphite NX having chosen that for my last two. Was leaving the showroom content in keeping the NX for at least another 6 months but stopped to have a seat the RX on display. Was suitably impressed, got figures compiled and was surprised that the monthly payment was only c£12 more expensive for a RX450h+ Premium Plus with panoramic roof versus the NX450h+ F-Sport with sunroof. Having had the panoramic roof on my first NX300h I was disappointed that it wasn't an option when I ordered my current NX, however if what I read is correct it will soon be offered on the NX.

  37. Yes, by security hardware, I’m reading this to mean a new “box of tricks” is being added to the car to encrypt the Canbus network. If so, this is great news. Hopefully the crooks will get the message fairly quickly not to bother damaging the wheel arch any more once they know all cars are being recalled

  39. I sent an email to Lexus Milton Keynes regarding Watchdog this morning. Perhaps Lexus are waking up. Here is part of their response regarding my 2018nx. “There are plates that can be fitted by us on the RX model and in the correspondence we have had this morning from Lexus GB the other models have their measures in development and we will be informed as soon as they available and I will be in contact to get you booked in they are anticipating this to be towards the end of April”

  41. Actually the WLTP figure for the IS300h is pretty accurate (and all other Toyota/Lexus hybrids too), much better than the old testing methodology which the 64mpg was based on: Sadly, WLTP for EVs is not realistic.

  43. Banks do have a pretty strong IT defense they literally spend billions in keeping safe. Its in their DNA. Companies however... Our company got hacked last year, ransom ware all systems down. After this was solved it was shocking how naive we have been the door was wide open. IT Has now become a fixed part of our plans and we allocate large sums towards it.

  44. I had this post appear on my Twitter feed today regarding the recovery of a stolen RX. If you enlarge the photo you will see the telltale sign of the wheel arch molding having been removed. Looks like a tracker was the saviour on this occasion.

  45. Correct. For battery you need 12V+ at minimum. 11.63V is considered 0% charged, 12.89V is 100% charged -12.4-12.6V is what you should normally expect for good battery. For alternator - ideally 14V+ (14.4V theoretical maximum, but in practice ~14.2 is achievable), but 13.8-13.9V still good enough. Will suck either way... from below you will have benefit of seeing what you can't reach, from the top you have benefit of reaching what you can't see.

  46. I agree! My car has now arrived at long last, today I have tried numerous comparison websites and LV, Hastings, Lexus, Admiral etc. After a long and involved conversation I’ve decided to go with NFU at an eye watering £740, I’m sure the price will come down in the next few months so I’ll be keeping an eye on what’s happening and when and if the prices start to drop I’ll cancel my policy and start again. I’m collecting my LBX on Wednesday afternoon - I’m so excited and am sure it’ll be worth all the hassle… If anyone wants to try NFU give them a call 0808 189 8702, I spoke to Cammy he was very helpful.

  47. Yes. The 5th generation RX has a signed/encrypted communication for the key and start. It’s called “Toyota Security Key” and all their newly updated/introduced models have a version of this, which means they aren’t vulnerable to the issue with the 4th gen RX, older NX, and current ES models (amongst others!). Jaguar Land Rover managed it on older models going back to 2016 that had similar flaws. Experts have also said encryption for the key elects here (doors /engine start) wouldn’t add significant overhead. Toyota are the world’s largest car manufacturer - they absolutely could fix this if they chose to.

  48. Couldn't agree more, I've had mine 3 years next month and I am really struggling to find anything else I'd want. Had this conversation with one or two people recently. A real shame that Lexus have stopped taking UK orders for the LC, but (as yet) don't seem to be planning a replacement. I probably would have waited till '25/'26 then tried to find a used '23 facelift model, but there'll probably be so few in the country I'd physically not be able to find one in the right spec/colour. Holding on to mine for the forseeable I think, I'm only doing 6-7k a year mileage.

  49. Concierge uses the auto setting for heat and steering wheel heaters, so you should adjust the sensitivity setting to a -ve number (e.g. -1 or -2) to stop it getting so hot. If you don't want the heaters to come on automatically then turn off Concierge and just have the climate control set to auto and manually operate the heaters.
