  1. Don't know if others have noticed but they've updated the site to know show who and where your car was tested in the past. Thus is a pretty useful research tool perhaps for those looking to buy, as previously all you had was the testing station number. Big Rat

  2. This guy might have over 14,000 but he is not a true performance guy. we was comparing apples and oranges.. he kept on going on about how the RC-F lacks tourqe... No it doesnt lack torque for an NA engine. infact the 5.0 in the RCF produces the maximum torque per litre an NA engine produces which is between 100 to 110 NM per litre. most high performance NA engines do not produce anymore torque per litre than this figure. The ZL1 hes currently driving is supercharged. the new M3, M5, E63, C63, RS6 are all Bi-Turbo engines which translates to having more power and the ability to artificially generate ample torque at low-mid RPM. The RC-F is indeed a heavy car and could do with some weight loss... lets wait and see the turbo engines Lexus releases for their new F performance models... Video below proves a TRACK car as he puts it does not need to have a lot of torque or 650 BHP to be fun to drive.

  4. I'm not saying the RC-F and GS-F are bad cars, they just don't seem to move the game on too much from what I already have. Driving characteristics wise. I absolutely love driving mine (which is shown by my average of 17 mpg from most tanks) and I'm looking to keep it for a good few years yet. When I do come to replace it though, it'll be for something a bit lighter footed. Just feel that the sense of mass does dull the experience somewhat. I tend to mix up my cars a bit and don't look for the same recipe with newer ingredients. Saying all this though, if anyone asks me what to buy with mid 30k/40k, I do always mention the RC-F as a great used proposition.

  8. Disconnecting the battery then operating the brake pedal till it goes hard will remove all the pressure in the accumulator. It will also discharge the emergency capacitor battery backup for the accumulator pump making things safe to work on. Putting hardwood blocks in place of the pads can be an alternative, but not recommended. If it is required to bleed the brakes the two abs relays must be removed, and Tecstream or similar connected to open various valves in the hydraulic system. John

  9. Small update....... Now you see me........ Now you dont........ I had the engine stand ready to bolt it onto but the bolts i have are not long enough to get through the stand holder and the block. Easy enough to pull the engine out, i removed the a/c condensor to make life a little easier. Going to find some longer bolts tomorrow and get it on the stand.

  10. The brakes on the GS450H along with many of Toyota hybrid cars cannot be bled properly without Techstreem or a suitable service tool. It also requires the removal of the two ABS motor relays. Failing to do this can mean the loss of fingers as it is possible for the brake system to pressurise without the key fob being in proximity to the car. Opening the drivers door can initiate pressurisation. If this happens with pads removed the caliper pistons can be pushed out resulting in loss of fluid, and air entry. You have been warned. John.

  16. It's very easy to get sucked into chasing numbers with this sort of car. I personally, couldn't care less whether the ISF/RCF/etc has 400bhp or 600bhp. The difference on the road will be negligible and after a track day at Silverstone which is a big power circuit , I would suggest not massively important there either. It's all in the balance and the delivery. That being said, the ZL1 is supposed to be rather good!

  17. Good points made there @noby76. Obviously Lexus realise they need to up their game with the V8 twin turbo LCF.

  22. I changed my disks and pads a while ago. When I removed the rear disks, I thought the hand brake shoes were looking a little thin, so I ordered new. When they arrived, the new ones looked the same. Both rear calipers were seized, which is a common fault. Care should be taken when bleeding because the pedal doesn't go down to the floor, it's electronic. By the time you've realised whats happening, all the fluid is in the jar. :) But if you don't encounter those problems, the task is no different to any other car.

  23. This is a well timed query as also I'm planning to get all my brakes refreshed soon. The rear brakes have the handbrake nestled inside the disk bells, using shoes #oldskool Which I've not come across before. But it seems you just line up the bell access hole with the shoes adjuster and knock it off to release the disk.

  25. Not sure if the newer CT's are the same, but mine will only dim at night if the knob for adjusting the dash brightness is turned down slightly. I'm not explaining this well, but there is a click when the setting is max brightness - if you hit this then the night mode wont activate

  26. Pads down to 2mm front and 3-4mm rear in 15K miles? Have you seen this for yourself or is this what Lexus told you? I only ask because Lexus told me the pads on my ISF were worn out and when my mechanic took them out to replace them (with non Lexus pads) they were only about half worn! Check this before you go any further as it might be just the local stealer trying to gouge you. Hard to get alternatives in this country as Brembo Europe do not seem to even list them for the front, but the US site from an earlier response indicates they are the same as LS 460/600h pads. I think this is worth checking out as that model has been around for a while. I'm certainly not going to be paying £1200 for a set of pads for my GSF when the time comes. It would almost be cheaper to fly to the US and buy some there.

  28. I agree @yeahchap although we will have to see exactly how consumers react to the negative press about diesel over a longer period. How local authorities chose to implement congestion charging will also have a big impact on future customer behaviour. Sales figures are showing a sharp decline in diesel sales, with strong growth in hybrid sales although normal petrol is also growing to fill most of the gap left by the diesel decline. http://cardealermagazine.co.uk/publish/decline-diesel-car-sales-offset-demand-petrol-across-eu/140127 IMHO in order to fully capitalise Lexus should start to offer 'scrappage' as an offer on the CT. From a customer perception perspective, offering (say) £5k scrappage rather than discounts or deposit contributions could see them shift quite a few CTs. Certainly a number of other manufacturers are being quite aggressive with such an approach.
