  2. Hi all i have just had my LC500 delivered last night at 10pm, it’s a 69 plate in Sonic red with the ochre interior didn’t get chance to drive it as had been out for a meal and had a few drinks, Put a tears for fears cd in the stereo and wow even though everyone say the Levinson is good it was still better than I expected. can’t wait to take it out later as have never driven one or seen one I had bought it from Lexus Wolverhampton over the phone so excited to see in the daylight. Will post some pictures later if anyone is interested. it’s 6.45 and it feels like getting up early at Xmas have a good everyone Winston

  3. What really annoys me with this ethanol directive from the government is that it is a direct assault on the car owner and under any commercial instance would end up in court. The greens of this world do not give a toss about anyone else as long as their pie in the sky objectives are pursued at any cost to the individual but have no chance against the big polluting nations of the world. The damage the ethanol does to vehicles of a certain era is enough to cause the scrapping of same therefore the carbon footprint is multiplied in supplying new replacements and a propotion of evs at a bigger carbon footprint than a petrol or deisel. Fortunately according to government guidelines my 98 ls400 can cope with ethanol but a lot of vehicles after that year cannot so what does that say about a measured approach . The wealthy who bought Lexus vehicles are fine but the not so well off who had to buy bog standard transport are going to be forced into buying a replacement for the car the Government policy as ruined. The future is bleak for anyone who as a car that will not cope with ethanol and these additives may work but are a added cost to what is a very expensive fuel.

  4. I don't agree with that last sentence. Politicians may be the same like industrialists, but there are far more cars on the road than 10 years ago. I observe this locally in the number of parked cars near me and in other places I visit and congestion. Increasingly both partners in a relationship have a car and as soon as their children are old enough, many of them get cars too. The foregoing applies to one of my two daughters and the other in all respects other than she does not currently have a partner living with her. Also, just look at the way more people have cars in developing countries, so the demand for fuel increases worldwide and with it the cost and amount of pollution. Also, whenever I use certain roads I am surprised at the number of lorries also making an impact. Pollution from vehicles is a significant contributor to pollution and in my view it is right for Governments to incentivise the use of less polluting vehicles and aircraft, also to encourage other industries to be more efficient and less polluting. People love the convenience of their cars so particularly away from large towns, bus services become less used resulting in reduced or in some cases non existent bus services. This in turn leads to more people relying on private cars. While it can be argued that BEV's only put much of the pollution elsewhere, it makes sense to reduce pollution in busy areas where it is high and adversely affects health. Actually, the Government has been quite successful in getting people not to start or to give up smoking, even though reduced sales means less tax despite higher tax rates. So campaigns can work. Of course I am going to complain about the escalating cost of fuel which was bound to happen with increasing demand and sanctions against Russia. But the Government have to raise sufficient money so we begin to pay our way and begin to reduce the debt much increased by borrowing during the pandemic. It will be interesting to see when most people are driving non ICE cars how lost tax on these will be recovered. I

  5. Well I'm 3 weeks into my latest RX having previously had a 2005 SEL (air suspension went belly up at 61K miles). P/exed 5 years ago for a 2012 Advance (Lexus Bolton). Brilliantly reliable but always had an interior rattle somewhwere that I couldn't remedy. Now into a 2018 with 36K on the clock in blue with light interior and opening pan roof (again Lexus Bolton). So lost £9.5k over 5 years against the latest version but oh boy haven't they gone up in price never mind the impact of higher road tax at £510.00. But having toyed with the idea of a Range Rover and Porsche there was always something about the uniqueness of a Lexus that drew me back. Apart from the air con which needs a regass and a few marks that I'll sort out in due course she's a beauty and feels like a step up in class, which I guess you'd expect. My old RK was so tidy that it's up for sale with Lexus Bolton at a £4.5k premium over the p/x price. Hey ho. there you go. Oh and for the first time I've taken a 3 year Lexus service plan having used a very trustworthy independent across the Penninesup to now..Time will tell if that proves to be the right decision.

  6. I had a call from the dealer today. I originally ordered my Premium Edition in mid February, when it was quoted as July/August delivery. A call in April put that back to November/December. Today's call tells me it is currently showing October delivery. When I asked, it was confirmed it would be MY23, and that the change for the model year was the completely updated multimedia system. The dealer also confirmed the price I would be charged was as stated on my original order, and we know from the MY23 Price List already available that the car will still be under the £40k VED barrier, so I'm back to being a happy customer again. I'll be even happier once I see it's entered production. but I suppose I'll have to wait untill at least August to see that.

  8. I have had 2 faulty sunroofs. The first which could "chatter" was quickly sorted by Lexus Leicester whilst Lexus Coventry tried adjustments before replacing the unit. The closed roof could "Bop" on poor surfaces. Record your noise & get Lexus to sort it. Tel

  9. what is clearly reducing emissions these past days, and i suspect for some months to come, is the clear experience of seeing much much less traffic on the roads this past week ..... I'm thinking the fuel price has simply driven people to park-up and hide away their keys ....... non-use will have a brilliant effect on the planet's health .... the Green Brigade will be rejoicing I'm sure Better for me to put me foot down and burn a little more V8 juices Malc

  11. I'm sure, but not enough to justify legislation and even then it won't guarantee it fixes the issue. 99% of drivers on the road are qualified to drive - that doesn't eliminate drivers being at fault in accidents.

  13. IMHO You really aren't doing the car any favours by trying to eek out more time with this battery, all of your ECU's, and you have a lot, will not like getting less than their usual 12v+ some may spit their dummy out and you may start to get spurious faults popping up. It's just not worth the bother, you could end up with all sorts of problems as a result. Trickle chargers are to help you out if you don't use the car much, they are not designed to keep a dying battery at a voltage it just doesn't want to be at. The battery has tried it's best to warn you of it's impending doom... listen to it and give your car the help it needs.....

  14. Ok, I’ve been in touch and had to send them an email which they will put in front of the Director to see if he is happy for this to go ahead. I’ve asked for a list of Saturday morning dates that will suit them and then we can take it from there with a majority vote on a date that suits us. 👍🤞

  15. Weird place for a rust spot when it’s not directly subject to road crud and salt. Have you checked the door seal in the same area for any lodged stones or grit which may have abraded the paint through? No spillages like cola in the area, that stuff seems to eat through anything The sill cover needs to come off to determine the full extent but if it has not spread under it take it back to clean metal, prime and touch up paint. For the seats maybe a coloured leather restorer product which would help fill in the tiny cracks and blend in the rest.

Hi T They were not really interested in giving any discount but after a lot of hard work back and forth I managed to get them to up my part ex by £500 and then knock another £250 of to make it a round number. Not much but as in the words of an unnamed supermarket chain every little helps pictures to follow

  19. Couldn't hurt to clean the gutters where the seals are on the boot lid, mine were clogged up with gunk a while back and it caused rain water to leak into the car. Keeping them clean should pretend that.

  20. You must always disconnect negative terminal of battery when working around panels with airbags. Try that now to see if the airbag light goes away. There is a trunk lock button in the glovebox which you might have accidentally pressed.

  21. First course of action is to go back over the work you did checking for trapped wiring or dislodged plugs from sockets. Did you move the front passenger seat back for better access? There are SRS connectors under the seat. SRS connectors are generally yellow plugs/sockets and wiring so easy to spot. If you do find something disconnect the battery and leave for 10 minutes to discharge the airbag system or something may go off in your face. After that Techstream diagnostics.

  23. And adding pointless bike lanes - and park and rides -- in Yate they spent £4.5 million on a park and ride that no body uses, and idiotic bike lanes to Bristol taking up valuable road space heading into one of the most congested cities in England. Bristol has so many charging points its like the land of the future Its like they are deliberately wearing out the patience of people

  27. Am still to hear back from my dealer as to whether mine is MY23. I ordered in December and expected delivery is late September currently. The infotainment change is a big deal and could make or break a sale based on individual preferences - it bemuses me that there is absolutely no announcement publicly about this from Lexus (well not one that I've seen anyway and I'm searching on a daily basis in anticipation). This kind of change isn't an overnight decision, makes me wonder whether it's a response to supply chain issues rather than a considered road map and therefore communications is playing catch-up.

  29. In the same situation ordered mid feb - ETA- October- fingers crossed. I am interested in the new multi media set up and wondered if we have had any other update on this. I was not overally impressed with the sound quality on my standard pioneer stereo on my old Es300h and would be interested to see if the sound quality was likely to see an upgrade.

  30. I have never used it, but I know many who swear by it for winter storage of their motorcycles. However, those have steel fuel tanks, and the LS430 tank is plastic (not sure about LS400) so may be less useful. It does prevent water separation in petrol that sits for months without use, and that alone reduces most of the corrosion.

  40. Not that I have the money, (and the parking spaces), I would have a ES300h (for long hauls up to the Lake District) and an LC500 convertible (for days like today, pottering about the Brecons), and keep my LS for old times sake. Look forward to seeing some pics, the Lexus web site does not (IMHO) do the actual colours justice

  41. I’m sure I read somewhere about it being used for track time or spirited driving. I’ll see if I can dig out the literature. It’s certainly designed to de removed so Lexus has intended it to be taken off and put back on multiple times.

  43. Just had the car on the ramps at the rear to have a good look at the arms and what needs to done and figure out how to do it. I planned to put the car on the ramps and jack up one side so the wheel is free which will give me plenty of room underneath, work on that side and repeat on the other side. After getting the trolley jack under, it isn’t really possible to do that and be sure it’s safe. Ideally I would like to jack the whole rear end up and work on both sides but due to the way my drive is I wouldn’t feel safe doing it. I’ll need to do it the normal way and jack up one side at once, much safer for me. I am going to do all the suspension arms and then planned to maybe do the shocks and UCA’s but after looking where the ball joint is fixed on the UCA’s I’m definitely not doing the UCA’s at the moment. From what I can see the drive shaft needs to be removed or the whole rear hub assembly removed which means disconnecting the drive shaft anyway to get to the ball joint nut. Maybe someone can tell me different though. If I am right, when I decide to do the shocks and UCA’s, I may as well fit the new hub assemblies and bearings as well. That will mean removing the ABS sensors, although they are plastic they can be a pain to remove and the bottom part of the plastic sleeve which goes into the hub can break in. New ABS sensors are not cheap at all…….

  45. .... if indeed the Main Dealer is being truthful ......... was there any Advisory at the last MOT ? and the mileage covered in-between ? I'm sad to say that I wouldn't trust these people to be at all acting in your best interests ........... next thing they'll be wanting to charge you a couple of £000s for all this wheel and brakes work ..... wish I was in your part of the country Martin, I'd be down there like a shot and be rather inquisitive of these guys with the little knowledge I have with some 55 years driving and car servicing behind me ........... and prior owning a GOOD used car business for some years Malc

  46. ............... it's a simple negligent failing of Main Dealers ( and others ) servicing that the calipers are never greased as needed ............ it's not on any servicing schedule .... and you get these expensive failures of the calipers ( so they say ! ) My indy has always checked the calipers at every service and doing what's necesssary, a 10 minute job all round ........... and in 239k miles my car has never needed replacement calipers The 4 Wheel Alignment cost is simply a Main Dealer " Rip Off " ..... why don't you ask them to allow you to watch as they do this .... checking the printouts as they get churned out by the computer ....... does the Main Dealer even actually do the Alignment Check or is your car being sent down the road to the local tyre place where the equipment is together with the trained and competent operator ? I'm so frustrated and annoyed for you ........... they're being so disingenuous with everything Malc
