  1. I bought my wife a vacuum cleaner for our wedding anniversary. The local accident and emergency department managed to get most of it out.

  3. Make sure you are in Auto EV/HV mode and not EV mode and basically put your foot down. You can change drive mode into Sport mode to make partial throttle more responsive but at full throttle all modes are essentially equal. By the way the transmission works, it provides a progressive surge in power rather than a delay and sudden hit that you get with a transmission dropping down gears and people often associate the sound of an engine steadily increasing in rpm with acceleration and therefore a hybrid might 'feel' slower than it actually is.

  6. True story, many years ago we had just done the bathroom i gave my wife a brandnew digital scale for her birthday. All hypermodern in the color of the bathroom and not only measuring weight but also fat percentage and i dont know what. Well that didnt go down well.... Its more than 20 years ago and i still am told off every now and then, all neighbors and friends know so lesson learned i guess..

  7. Just a quick update on progress so far: There are still a few jobs to do, but I'm really glad the weeks of flatting, compounding and polishing has finally finished! I've also repainted the wheels, although one day I might get them professionally stripped and repainted.

  8. Had an attempted theft of my 23 plate ES300 this morning at 6:15 in east London. It was a can-bus attempt through left headlamp. Looks like the cable got stuck stopping them getting access. When I was reattaching the cable I thought that using tie wraps to restrict the cable movement might prevent access to the port if the cable could not stretch to the wheel well. Its looks easy to try, remove the pollen filter then secure cable to bracket for wiring loom. It won't stop them trying but may prevent loss of car.

  9. Go to Screwfix website and type in Titan Vacuum and between £65 and £95 you can have a 1400W motor , between 16 - 33 litre capacity that will suck your face off and can be used as a wet vac too. Been using one for years with no breakdowns.

  10. I received the same response from my dealer however Lexus UK said that locking wheel nuts (or bolts) WILL be supplied eventually. I know what you mean about being too worn out 🙄🙄

  12. Officially no. Some Toyota dealers might service Lexus vehicles (but they risk losing their Lexus franchise if they do). If you did find a Toyota dealer willing to service it, you wouldn't get the 12 month free extended warranty or hybrid health check. Toyota/Lexus have been thinking of allowing Toyota dealers to perform Lexus servicing (they have surveyed Lexus owners on the idea) but nothing official yet.

  13. Yes, it is my first Lexus and first Hybrid and I felt the same. I only occasionally want to go fast for a safe overtake and quickly found that EV was not the best. I usually select HV to ensure the engine is running, or will start quickly, and I have Sport acceleration, sport suspension and low AC programmed into the custom button (F Sport) so I can select custom with a press on the button and select HV. I have not yet experimented with dropping a 'gear' on the paddles. I think Colin may be right in that it feels slower and takes a little time to wind up.

  14. I certainly don't class it as a slow car. I probably drive more sedately these days but when rapid acceleration is called for (overtaking etc) there is more than enough horses under the bonnet to complete the manoeuvre safely.

  15. Found it..this is what I read on here last year … "Most space savers will not fit on the front. If you puncture on the front, replace with a rear, and put the saver on the rear. Not ideal, but it would get you moving temporarily." 👍🏻👍🏻

  17. Actually just triggered a true story about my late father. For all the years I knew him he carried a stark white scar above his eyebrow. As a child when questioned about the scar he would tell the tale of the japanese soldier and the blade that made the scar. Somewhere in my early teens whilst on this same subject mid tale my mother very exasperated burst out with " rubbish I hit him with the iron". The why of it never quite came out, but come to think of it she did have a vacuum. 😉

  19. I'm a big fan of Dyson, but not so much a fan of their prices. As such, I bought three Dysons off ebay, two for 99p, and one for £9.99 (I know, I splashed out on that one), which were "broken", fixed them, and gave two to relatives. The good thing about overpriced items is that the people who buy them can often afford, and even prefer, to ditch and replace, rather than repair. This is especially true for items used by the fairer s*x, who will use the slightest fault as an excuse to get something newer and shinier. Often though they're quite easy to fix, with one just needing a plastic bag pulled out if its hose, and the reset button pressed.

  20. I'm currently looking for an interesting 'triple triple' (because I can't afford a 'double double'! I believe that you can contact the DVLA to ask if they would list a particular number provided it's not been previously issued. When they schedule it for auction they notify you via email. I'm currently watching four on eBay & have found that in many cases if you add them to your watch list after a day or two you receive a notification that a discount is available. In my case they were between 6%-25% so well worth doing.

  21. I'm now in the process of putting the car back together but find that a small bush/grommet on the driver's door handle has gone missing. The rod from the door lock mechanism fits into it and is not available separately from Lexus. The good news is that new door handle assemblies appear to be available from Amayama at £44.46 plus postage etc. However, if anyone reading this has a spare driver's door handle assembly lying around then please contact me. I have effected a temporary fix, but I don't know how long it will last. The part number is 69210-50010.

  22. If you have FB, join the UK LS 400 430 460 group, great group overall, but there is a guy Scott who is breaking a 96 LS400. I've had a few bits off him before, he's a lovely guy and may have what you are looking for! 🙂

  23. I have a 450h+ and previously drove an Audi diesel… As long as not forced into Ev mode, and you have some battery charge, I find it plenty fast. Especially a 0-30 start from traffic lights if there’s an idiot planning to undertake and pull out before the bus lane ahead…

  27. It did appear that Sport mode didn't make a lot of difference so that would make sense. You could be right with " a hybrid might 'feel' slower than it actually is". The NX is certainly not a slow car. Thanks 😀

  28. No that isn't needed. The vehicle has multiple sensors to locate each wheel. If you change wheels/rotate your tyres then you need to reinitialise the system using the dashboard menu so it learns the new positions (and desired tyre pressures). To register new sensors with the vehicle then you need a tool such as Carista, Techstream etc.

  29. If you are buying it yourself but haven't bought it yet Nextbase are offering discounts on their cameras if you buy online direct. If you are using a company to do the whole job for a fixed price, supply and fit then it will be unlikely the discount will be passed on to you. I assume you are having a hard wire kit to serve both cameras. Remember to make sure you keep the fuse box cover lid which can't be refitted to the fuse box because they will piggy back of a fuse with an adaptor which prevents the cover going back on. If the dash cam is ever removed and the hard wire kit is removed too the fuse box cover lid should be re fitted otherwise you won't know what fuse is serving which electrical circuit.

  31. Yuasa and Varta make good batteries, but the cars they are fitted to either need regular use or else plugging in to a battery maintainer. Trickle charging occasionally does not preserve a battery. If you don't use the car regularly and want the battery to last, you should always plug it in when parked at home. However, it sounds to me like you may have a parasitic drain or your alternator may be on it's way out. Since I now work from home and drive maybe 20 miles per week, mine is almost always plugged in to a cheap battery charger/maintainer (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08MQGHC2V) and the Yuasa battery fitted is now 5 years old and doing just fine. The battery got flattened a couple of times during COVID lockdowns, so I wired up the charger to connect where I park the car. The charger recovered the battery and has maintained it well since then. I extended the wiring from the charger to the battery by 10 metres so the charger is on the wall in the garage but the 12V cable runs to where the car is parked. If you can't get wiring to where the car is parked, then consider one of the solar chargers. Make sure it provides at least 5W and ideally 10-20W. Then all you need to do is park where the solar panel gets direct sunlight. I've seen a few cars with the solar panels on the parcel shelf and it seems to work if you can find panel(s) that will fit.

  35. Here's an update: Problem reappeared today and after a bit of research I found the following: OEX RLO and S Alternator Regulator Function Tester In a world where vehicles are getting more and more complicated, picking the right alternator can be difficult. A problem amongst many Toyota Camry and RAV4's that use the 2AZ-FE engine, there are two different types of alternator, based off the regulator function, but their plugs look virtually the same. One type of alternator has an S function, also referred to as "Sense" and one is "RLO" which is "Computer Communication". Long story short - it causes all sorts of headaches ordering the right part for the job. OEX have taken the guess work out of it with a simple tester. The ACX6250 simply plugs into the harness which would normally plug into your alternator. You turn the vehicle to ignition (vehicle without starting) and with the flick of a switch to identify the regulator function. The alternator I installed was an "RLO" type and I am assuming I need the "Sense" type. Will confirm with the distributor tomorrow, but it would appear, given the symptoms, that will be the issue. My symptoms are now identical to Alex in the original post and by switching the lights on (and creating a load on the alternator) the problem goes away. But it seems if you have the lights on when you start the car, you can also get the issue. The voltage bounced between 13.05 and 13.95 when the issue is present, then flattens out to around 14.20 when it goes away. Keep you posted.

  36. I get my batteries from Lexus dealer or Lexus Parts Direct. They last well over 5 years without trickle charging and put up with my flattening them from time to time working on the car or when leaving an internal light on…I don’t use the car much.🤪

  37. It's the inconsistencies that frustrates. Missed journeys, car showing as unlocked when in fact it is locked and vice versa , car being shown as parked miles from where it is actually situated, mileage incorrect and number of days countdown to service incorrect, mileage sometimes shown as km etc etc. Some days its perfect but on others it's not. You just have to look in the NX forum to learn of the issues with the app! Twenty-one months on and the system is improving but in my opinion its still not robust and worthy of the Lexus brand.

  38. yes you should soon be good to go, as was I after 6 months. However the locking wheel nuts “are not now supplied with the NX” was the response from my dealer. I’m just too worn out with protracted deliveries of car and keys plus poor dealer communications all round, to fight this. I’m enjoying my beautiful 450h+ as is, and getting on with life.

  40. Not sure if you've managed to solve this, but just incase you haven't. I have to do this often as my wife leaves this can sitting for months at a time, and this causes the batter to die. To reset the door windows. From closed, use the switch on each door. Run them to fully open and keep the switch pressed for a second, then run the window to fully closed. To reset the sunroof is similar. Using the 'tilt' switch, press and hold it untill the sunroof runs back and forward through a cycle. You will have to hold the switch for approx 20 seconds before this starts. Sorry but I can't remember if it's the front or rear of the switch you keep pressed.

  46. I consider two factors. One is price; this time last year there was a massive 32p/ltr difference between Esso E5 and Asda E10 and I couldn't justify the higher price of E5. The other factor is that I have a PHEV meaning that I have only added 18 tankful's of petrol in the last 15 months. Methanol absorbs moisture more easily than petrol so if the fuel is sitting in the tank unused for weeks on end (which it does sometimes) then it will have absorbed water, E10 more than E5 because of the higher methanol content. I don't think moisture is good for the engine or related components. In practice, if I am doing a long trip and/or filling regularly than E10 is acceptable. If I don't anticipate running the ICE for a period, I will try and ensure that the majority of the fuel is E5. Subjectively, the car runs better on E5. When I do fill with E5, it is usually Tesco Momentum due to availability and the more reasonable price difference.
