  1. My understanding is that the latest generation of NX (22 MY onwards) and 5th generation RX aren't vulnerable.

  2. Some car enthusiasts hate this sort of stuff but surprisingly the original badly stained grey calipers look tidier with a uniform colour finish. Anyway it's done now. The front calipers are huge on this car, looks like they are 4 pot, maybe even 6. Off to test drive the new hybrid LBX at Lexus Hull tomorrow which might be a suitable replacement for her Hybrid Toyota Yaris but sounds like the pricing will be a bit of a stretch.

  4. Thinkware can supply side cameras to compliment their dashcams. https://thinkwaredashcam.eu/product/extsidecamera/ As pointed out though, the 12v battery isn’t much use for parking mode - I think I get about 5 mins with my Thinkware dashcam before the camera shuts itself down due to the low 12v battery charge (it monitors the 12v battery. However, if you want an all singing all dancing system they also supply auxiliary back up batteries. Anything is possible, all depends how much you want to spend. https://thinkwaredashcam.eu/product/ivoltminiexternalbattery/ https://thinkwaredashcam.eu/product/ivolt-pro-external-battery/ Disclaimer: I have no association with Thinkware, It has just been my dashcam of choice over the past 6 years

  5. It's not the same as on the new ones. IS250s don't get stolen. Not a desirable car nor expensive one, it's not a hybrid so it won't be a subject to catalytic converter thefts either. Lots of parts available thanks to the diesels going bang so even parts demand isn't really there.

  6. That's my understanding too Ken. I read that this is because Lexus implemented Toyota Security Key (TSK) a unique encrypted key which the ECU's require before executing any CAN commands. This means that the physical key has to be present. However we don't know when or if the criminal fraternity will overcome it. It doesn't stop the scum doing damage to the wheel arch and bumper finding out though.

  7. I shall find out when I go back in the morning. Will report on here the results of my complaints. Thanks. Much appreciated comments. I’m not going to allow them to get away with it. I don’t think the lass on the reception has any idea of the replacement part, she will do in the morning as will the proprietor of the business. She was the only person on site when I collected my car. Perhaps the proprietor had disappeared on purpose as she stipulated that my car would be ready at 4:15, maybe giving her boss the opportunity to disappear.

  8. that was my main concern also parts as when I had my body shop many years ago, we used to work for a company who imported Toyota Amazons and if we add to order parts, the first thing Toyota asked for was the VIN number and if it was an import, they refused to supply parts as for insurance my current company have given me a really good price of fully comp & protected NCD for just over £500 I saw this one too pimped up thanks for your advice

  9. Mistakes happen but as you rightly pointed out the liablity lies with them to make it right. If there was a perceived risk that removing the sensor was going to cause it to break. They should be calling and informing you about it. Anyway whats done is done. I think its fair to give them an opportunity to make this right and replace a like for like sensor themselves. i reckon it will be cheaper for them to fix it themselves with original parts than paying you to go to the dealer. Also do inform them about the valve caps and do this over a text message or email in addition to a call. Document your grievance and the solution theyre willing to offer in case you need to take them to small claims court.

  10. After the update my info and security selections would not stay on causing me to have to reset after restarting car. Nipped into Lexus Bolton hoping for a solution. They got the multi media expert to look at it whilst I waited. He reset the system a couple of times and this resulted in the system working correctly. Everything now back to normal inc. info being sent to the app. Once again a great service from the dealership on responding even though I had no appointment.

  11. Like Vlad said, it's most likely the alternator. Try charging the battery over night. Check with the volt meter. Have a look at this video and see if you think it's difficult or not. "easy" is down to personal opinion/skillset.

  13. OK 3 to choose from and decided to go with the first I saw, an 18 plate advance with 25k. The 69 plater has clearly been used as a taxi as the shiny rear seats testify so that's off my list, plus it has only 1 recorded service at 30k (the 40+ interval) so missing some history. They had another 68 plate Advance in red looked clean but has no dealer history at all and is practically sold, also mileage higher at 40k. Without dealer history not sure I'd want it. Either way, looks like I'll be staying in Club Lexus for a while now.

  14. I'd say yes as we aren't getting reports from owners here on theft, or attempted thefts. We have LV refusing to cover CT200h that aren't even vulnerable, so I feel pre and post facelift NXs might be all tarred with the same brush with some insurance companies. You would need to shop around.

  16. Hey Ifti ... The usual thread hijacking going on above I see, same old suspects, some just love talking among themselves 😆 . Back on topic, every car has its price so there must be a good reason it's not selling 🤔 . The used market's not great mind, on the slide some might say, but keep trying eh? Is it on AutoTrader? I don't see it on the 'Cars for Sale' Forum!?! No details. Makes me wonder, do you really want it sold? 😃

  17. It will have CANbus but it's probably not easily accessible enough for a thief to connect to. The models that have CAN headlights (IS250 does not) have vulnerable CAN wiring just above the wheel arch that can be reached with very little damage to the vehicle bodywork. I have not seen any IS250 reported stolen via CAN injection.

  18. Tat? I think it's a very clever design. Seems well constructed, weighs almost nothing, easy to hide away and looks good. Only my opinion of course!

  19. It’s a funny thing, a Lexus V8… they’re the halo car, but Lexus has never really seemed that bothered with them in the UK (or buyers weren’t…) I’ve had my GSF for 6 years now - it’s my daily driver and I can’t think what I’d ever replace it with. I’d probably choose the GSF’s successor but… there isn’t one! Bit of a shame the IS500 never made it here, but I’m not sure that’s quite what I’d want. Makes me laugh the occasional mailshots from Lexus telling me that “there’s never been a better time to trade up your Lexus..”! The sting of the annual VED of around £700 lasts a few minutes, but the GSF has been my ideal car since I first sat in one in Hedge End showroom whilst my ISF was being serviced. A sad, but inevitable end.

  21. Hello, Think roads are bad come to Oldham or Greater Manchester! Even the motorway, the M60 has gots some really bad bits. The issue is is down to.. Patch repairs when done, a few layers and that's it, come winter back to same situation. Too many vehicles on the roads, can't take the loads and pounding of the vehicles. The solution is actually 1.This countries infrastructure is broke, so raise taxes and do a proper job on the roads like they used in the 70's and 80's. 2. Invest in better public transport, that is reliable and frequent, so less cars on the road.I am not in favour of public transport, but we have bloody queues everywhere and some people wouldn't drive if public transport was good. 3. Whoever wins the tender on the roads and motorways, it needs to assessed on quality, materials and workmanship and guaranteed work, as cheap and ineffective work e means we all pay more road tax. 4. MPs who represent their areas and understand about car driving. I am sure there is more, but will get off my soap box now.

  25. IS250 has CANBUS indeed, but it can't be stolen via CANBUS easily. Basically, the reason why new Lexus after 2016 can be so easily stolen is that Lexus (Toyota really) started using "smart" headlight ECU. For whatever reason (which is really beyond me) they decided to connect that ECU via CANBUS. So the reason why new Lexus are so easy to steal is not because they have CANBUS (all cars since like 1994 maybe have CANBUS), but because CANBUS line runs in easily accessible place (e.g. just under the front bumper) and can be accessed from outside of the car. In IS250 you can find CANBUS junction near the drivers and passengers footwells, meaning one would have to get inside of car first before being able to attack CANBUS. So that makes CANBUS attack meaningless on IS250, because by the time one is in the car presumably it is already stolen. If anyone would bother stealing IS250, then most likely they would try "keyless relay attack", not CANBUS.

  27. Just another quick update. The solar panel despite being now on the top of the roof was not enough to maintain a fully charged battery during the winter months. Now the days are longer it does now seem to be able to keep the battery fully charged. I have also now purchased a tracker with its own rechargeable battery so no additional drain now. Hopefully I won’t have any further issues.

  28. Hi Lex. An good thanks. Not seen you on here for a while. I'm missing my beloved is250 after writing it off. As stated above yes charge the batter ideally with a smart charger. The reconnect the battery and your car should start but with probably some lights on your dash. Your car should have enough battery power to get you to a garage you trust to fit a genuine Toyota/Lexus alternator. I charged the one on mine and it got me 18 miles to the Lexus dealer. A competent mechanic should be able to change the alterations. If you feel confident then first have a look where it is and how accessible it is. From what I remember it's not an easy job.

  29. Hi There are some of the pointers it is a Japanese Import 1) Imports will not have UK service history or Hybrid Health Check 2) the sat nav and some buttons maybe in japanese 3) Imports may have wind deflectors and extra bodykit and non standard UK reg plates 4) They may have an additional foglight which is required for the UK SVA test 5) They may have parking pole stick out of the front bumper 6) The mileage maybe displayed in KMs and not miles Here is an example of an import LS600h 2010 Black Lexus LS 600h WALD 5.0 V8 Saloon 4dr Petrol Hybrid CVT 4WD Euro 5 (s/s) (445 ps) for sale for £14,495 in IPSWICH, SUFFOLK (autotrader.co.uk)

  31. A Voltmeter will also give an indication of whether the alternator is charging, should be around 14V with the engine running, also check it under heavy load (headlights, rear screen heater, blower fan, heated seats etc).

  33. Hi Lex. I'm sorry to tell you that I had Exactly that and it was indeed the Alternator. Considering the age of your car too its the Alternator gone. I managed to get mine to Lexus to sort as I was desperate because I was going away that day. It cost £800 but I did get a free loan car for actually 4 days.

  35. So the questions for me now are: Do the criminals know that the pre-facelift NX is not an easy target? and will the insurance companies fix their premiums accordingly? It would be interesting to hear from owners of pre-facelift NXs on this forum.

  36. When I had an NX I certainly noticed a sound difference when the shelf was out but usually that meant the back was down too. Even with the seats down the noise levels are not that different in my UX but the UX is much noisier to start with! Of course the seats are down much more often in the UX for obvious reasons.

  38. I had a problem with Siri in messages in CarPlay. After dictating a text Siri would only read back the first word ! Consequently, sending a text I had no way of knowing whether Siri had compiled it correctly. Did a lot of research and concluded it was caused by IOS 17 - I updated to IOS Development Beta and problem solved. Maybe that is your issue.

  40. Normally I wouldn't accept what a dealer says but I've not seen any reported pre-facelift NX thefts discussed here on LOC so there is something different. The headlights have CAN bus wiring to all years in the wiring diagrams I've seen, for all three types of headlight so either wiring is different (maybe difficult to reach on one or two of the headlight designs) or the theft device doesn't support the older ones (or the body ECU/gateway ECU doesn't get tricked on the older model).

  41. See I do not sell rubbish and it never had leaves on it when I owned it😃 TBH I fitted those sensors they are dolphin ones as Bob describes, you do not need to to remove bumper to fit from memory there is a good length of wire and a little connector and each sensor just pushes in from outside the car then click connectors together I used the original buzzer🤩 Stew

  42. The NX/RX shortage is due to Toyota moving from using wheel nuts to wheel bolts. I believe these are manufactured in region, and someone on these forums mentioned in Russia which may have further complicated the supply chain - although how it can take well over a year to recommission the manufacture of some wheel bolts is beyond me. The bZ4X/RZ had a flawed hub design where wheels/hubs were becoming detached which led to a halt in production for several months and a worldwide recall. Not sure this redesign has affected the locking wheel bolt design - probably not and just the same as the NX/RX issue.

  43. Yeah... lots of places seem to sell replacement sets - but there are only four sensors in the set. The car should be good, then, for the next 16 years : o )

  45. I have an LC with tracker, immobiliser and ‘stuff’ - Lexus offer non-RX owners the square root of f all so far. I’m confident my car cannot be stolen without a flatbed and winch. However… A Lexus with protection won’t vanish but it will get damaged… over and over again until Lexus issue a recall and upgrade every affected car.

  49. Hi, Canbus theft has only just started in 2023 and is clearly going to be increasing and a major issue for 2024 for all Lexus model owners, but Toyota can ignore it because everyone is divided in their own forums and topics. Please visit general forum and view canbus theft scandal topic. Please comment on the topic and also ask this site owner why canbus is not a main page permanent link until Toyota / Lexus fixes this with a recall to fit physical plates as it has done for a few RX owners for all 2014-2023 owners. The only way Toyota will react is when poor reputation harms sales. On the gen CTS topic add your own Lexus 2024 tag line. The wittiest, most pithy will be widely circulated. Thanks.
