  1. taken from another post: I have found the receipt for the Hybrid Pump bearings. Not sure if the part numbers would make sense, so I have measured the bearings with vernier callipers so the correct parts can be ordered. I bought mine from Brammer UK Ltd, in Hereford (01432 276630). The part numbers are 61900-2Z and 608-2Z. They were in stock at the time. The dimensions for the front bearing are 22mm OD, 10mm ID, 6mm width. The dimensions for the rear bearing are 22mm OD, 8mm ID, 7mm width. 2. Yes they can. You should find all the info you need using the search box because this very thing generated the longest topic ever on these forums if I remember correctly. There's also a pdf file with full instructions too. EDIT: These are the LEDs I got for the job and they work really well. SECOND EDIT: This shroud needs to be removed from the light fitting:

  3. I am loving my new to me RX350 2006, and will shortly be going for LPG on it as I did with my old RX300. One minor gripe I do have with it though is that the reversing lights are not very bright. Can these be uprated without upsetting any of the bulb gone systems?

  4. If you want to liven up a bit go on to any BMW forum. I'm a present 5 series E60 owner who's feeling the heat badly when it comes to German car ownership. 2009 523i (apparently the most reliable model) with just 70k and a FSH has cost me over 2k in repairs this year. Oil leaks, warped rocker cover, misfiring you name it. On the contrast I ran my previous Honda Accord V6 Coupe from 30,000 to 80,000 miles without a single incident. Now the TypeAccord forum was as static as hell in the technical section. However the general banter section was a bit more lively. Am 99% looking for a 2012 on GS. However......a low miler LS460 could be a bit of a coup. Pay less initially and more on fuel. Pay as you go motoring I call it.

  6. Small update. Thanks to the excellent design of the ISF rear suspension, I was recently able to swap the oh so thin rear anti-roll bar on the SC430 for a much thicker American ISF sway bar. With new ISF drop links and brackets for the larger bushes it's a simple swap. The back end now feels so much better through the twisty bits. It's just a shame that the UK ISF owners are so careful with their prized machines that I had to resort to importing the part from the US.

  8. Here's an update on the 'washer' problem following a little more digging. The one thing I hadn't bothered to do was remove the pipes from the splitter to the nozzles themselves. I did that and that's when i discovered that Lexus fit in-line non-return valves/filters just before the pipe reaches the nozzle. You can't immediately see them unless the pipes are actually removed as they are tucked into a void space in the bonnet. I removed them and then attached some plain pipe to the nozzles and hey presto! problem cured. So basically it seems both non-return valves have failed in the space of a couple of weeks. Small beer I know but what chance of it being sorted under warranty...? cheers Phil

  9. Not really, it's a common occurrence on that piece of road for some reason. Also, most drivers seem to have no idea how wide their cars are as they all slow down when there is oncoming traffic even though there is enough room for a fat old Lexus with several feet to spare (it is a normal width road).

  10. That did the trick, safely installed. Thanks to everyone who helped. Maybe that Video should be a sticky.

  13. Sorry to hear you've had a bad experience. I can understand that you feel aggrieved at this situation. I have purchased some items from Rockauto in the recent past and found them to be excellent. Like Lee, I cross referenced everything I was considering just to be as clear as possible that what I was ordering was correct. I too was concerned about LH and RH orientations especially as their market is LH drive vehicles. You are quite right when you say .... Be careful what you order Hope you manage to get the car problem resolved in the not too distant.

  14. Here are the photos. If you remove pipe A temporarily to get access there are two hose clips (circled) on pipe B and C , move these down the pipe and with some force the pipes unplug. Ive marked the water flow (B is the inlet to the matrix) so stuff a hose pipe up pipe C to flush it. Kev

  15. Andrew @Odysseus, the heater core has both the feed and return pipes on the same side of the matrix, so flow on the far side is reduced and can clog. Here's a pic crib'd from the www that shows what can occur (note: it's from a US forum)

  17. Never had that pleasure, just the design makes me think of the Zil. Seeing vu-tube vids of Russian calamitous driving don't think I'd be brave enough to drive on their roads.

  18. It's not difficult.. Drive to the reading on the speedometer, don't try second (GPS) guessing it. The time 'saved' would be insignificant. Speed limits are a limit, not a target.

  19. Yes, they're online operation appears to be based in New York. I recently ordered parts from my local Lexus and others from Rockauto on the same day. Both orders arrived 3 days later. I had to drive the Lexus dealership whereas the long distance order arrived on my doorstep [emoji106] Priority shipping was Regular shipping wasn't much less and usually takes 5-7 days. Prices vary depending on the package size and weight, as you'd expect. I'll definitely be using them again as their prices are good, they have a wide choice, great shipping and an easy to use website.

  22. Yes, good man, we need more people like you on our roads. Who knows how many accidents (maybe serious) you prevented. I spent hours driving in London yesterday and the lack of consideration for other motorists is shocking. Give yourself a pat on the back (not when you're driving though!)👍

  23. You are a good man George, most people (most likely I am one of them) would drive off after this but you stayed and tried to warn people! Well done and thanks for drivers like you!

  24. A mini update... My self-levelling headlight sensor arm looked like this, on inspection: (yes, the bit 'pointing up' is sheared and is supposed to be 'pointing down', or at least connected to the bit that's to the right of it!) So my headlights were on maximum height and obviously going to be blinding everyone. Worse thing being Xenon, in conjunction with the height issue. I temporarily made a little splint to fix it in the short term, as I was going away for a week or so.. Having seen the costs of replacement, I pulled my finger out and fixed it for less than £2: Then refitted it for now. I gave the threaded bar a spray of copper grease after the photo, as it may well still need some adjustment I also replaced the NSR drop link and ARB bush, which has removed the ARB knock, but there's still something a bit worn on that side, only noticeable on a pothole/similar. May well be a bush on one of the rods, but it's less of a priority for now. I also finally got the camera working, but it involved a lot of trail/error. The first few attempts were using some rear dash cam cameras I had kicking about. The first one worked for a while, then stopped responding. The second one worked, of sorts, but seemed to only output in B&W, and with a "bad vertical hold" kind of effect on the screen, which was a bit weird: I ended up ordering another from Amazon, which I fitted tonight with more success. May need some tweaks and a tidier install. but it's now the correct image and in colour: (That's a bit of the drive and the garage door visible) So not bad for £10 or so. Certainly a lot cheaper than a Lexus one. I'm not sure why the first two had such an odd effect, possibly the difference between using PAL and NTSC. Who knows. Despite the other link suggesting so, I completely removed the old camera. The new one takes +12v and ground from the NSR reverse bulb, and provides signal via the yellow wire. The original black, red and white wires are snipped. Also managed to get the parking brake working. The old shoes were passable for now - the discs were a bit lipped inside though, so I adjusted what was there for now and will think about replacing the shoes (which I have) and pads (which I have) when I get a new pair of discs to stick on. I'm guessing the rods that connect to the hub (one just visible above) are connected to pressed in bushes? I'm considering changing them over at a point (for the bump/reverb over potholes) but can't quite see them on this diagram https://lexus-europe.epc-data.com/rx400h/mhu38r/5163/chassis/4804/?partno=9017912091

  26. Hi, Don't worry about driving your car with the failed transmission pump,it will be fine. I drove mine for about 6000 miles before I resolved the pump issue. The hybrid battery charged just the same, as this is from the alternator, so it will always stay at the same charge. The hybrid system still works, it is just limited in its functionality. After all, as there is no mechanical reverse gear on the car, the hybrid motors still let you reverse your car electrically. The only real difference is that the car can't change to its high ratio, as it needs the pump for this, so you cant go above 80mph. Also, you won't have much power from standstill until the engine revs, as it relies on electric power to give you the low end power (especially when setting off up a hill). Don't worry about it, just order your bearings continue to drive it and then fix it one weekend when you get round to it. Giles.

  27. REPAIRED FOR £7 !!! Hi all, I have finally repaired my transmission oil pump on my GS450h !!! After many months of 'trying to find time' to repair it, I finally got the car on a ramp today. Firstly drained the ATF fluid from the gearbox (approx. 4.5 litres came out). I them removed the exhaust bracket mounted on the gearbox (4 bolts). Then I unbolted the oil pump (4 bolts) from the gearbox and unclipped all the connectors from the oil pump controller and wiring mounts from the chassis and fed the cables back from the engine compartment to the gearbox area. I then checked out continuity of the wiring from the connectors to the pump. All were fine. Next I removed the pump housing from the motor and inspected the shaft by trying to spin the shaft on the output of the motor. It was seized. I tried moving it with some mole grips and the shaft moved, but grated. I then took the pump assembly apart to look for brushes (had to drill out 3x M5 screws as they were seized on), only to find that it is a brushless motor with 3 coils, like a stepper motor. I checked out the front shaft bearing and found that it was worn, causing the shaft magnets to grate against the motor coil assembly. Bingo.!!!!! Fault found!!!! I then visited my local bearing specialist and, hey presto, he had the correct bearing in stock! I also purchased the rear bearing too, just as a matter of course, totalling £14 in parts. They are only little 22mm bearings, and are common parts. Then I started to reassemble the motor with the new bearings. I had to drill out the 3 M5 screws completely and re-tap the threads to M6 and fit 3x new M6 screws in place. I then reversed the removal procedure and then filled the gearbox with ATF. I started the car. The same Hybrid fault came up. So I plugged in my code reader and cleared the P2797 code, and HET PRESTO. NEXT TIME IT WAS STARTED, THE CAR RAN PERFECTLY. I now had full Hybrid functionality and a fully wrking car. I am ecstatic. and extremely pleased with myself. Considering Lexus say the only remedy is a new oil pump at the cost of £3240. I have fixed it for £7. All in all, it took me 5 hours to repair (not including finding a bearing supplier). Lets hope this is good news for all of us GS450h and LS600 owners (same pump on both cars). Regards, Giles.

  28. Hi, I am having the same issue with my GS450h (see my thread near the top of the list). I am still driving the car as normal, but without Hybrid. My car too ground to a halt when the pump failed, but when I restarted it, the hybrid fault message was displayed, but the car drove perfectly. Have you tried re-starting the car and driving it? When you press the power button, it does a self check, finds the hybrid oil pump is not functioning, then starts the engine. This process takes about 10 seconds every time you start the car, but you get used to it. Just don't put the transmission into 'D', until the READY light goes steady (if you do put it into 'D' while the READY light is flashing, it will cut the engine (due to the self-test failing) and you will have to restart it). In my opinion, go back to the Lexus dealer, start the car and test drive it. I think you'll find tht you will just drive it home as normal. The transmission cannot be damaged by driving the car without the oil pump running, as this is only controlled as required so isn't on all the time anyway. I'm affraid that main dealers are not competant at repairing cars without looking into the techicalities of why a car isn't working or a part has failed. They are under such pressures that not enough time is spent properly investigating issues, which is why I always investigate matters by myself before coming to a satisfactory conclusion. The main dealer is very wrong if they say you need a new transmission when the pump fails. This pump is a separate part which is readly available from Lexus and other suppliers on the web. And it's relatively easy to replace too!!! In relation to Tonyrocha's comment above, the pump is not located inside the gearbox. It is mounted on the lower offside of the gearbox in full view. You can see it and it's mounting bolts, even without removing the transmission plastic cover. To conclude, don't loose hope yet and certainly don't scrap the car, just because a little pump has failed. What's the worst that can happen; you still have a beautiful car but without the Hybrid economy (I am getting 28mpg over the last 2000 miles without Hybrid functionality). There is a limitation to not having a working pump - the overdrive gear will not operate, so you car is limited to 80mph (I know, I tried it and lost power while overtaking at over 80mph, then investigated why). This is because the CVT hits its maximum possible linear ratio at 80 mph. You basically have a 2-speed auto gearbox with a continuously variable transmission (not a six speed gearbox like most people think, as the so-called 6-speeds are vitual gears selected by an ECU controlling the CVT ratio). Anyway, enough of my waffling (I could go on for hours). Let me know how you get on retreiving your car and watch my other thread over the next few weeks. Hopefully we can both have working pumps soon. Giles.

  29. the point with my specific problem wasn't that the perfectly ? good front long cooler pipe was ok, nor that the pas reservoir and all that was ok ....... it was the gubbins mild steel pipework in between that had failed / rusted ...... where's the longevity of these parts gone eh ! ........... and it all seems like yesterday too Malc
