  1. Because why not? Cat-back system from GTHaus, SUS mid pipe and titanium rear boxes, videos in order - cold start valves closed, cold start valves open, cheeky rev in an acoustically pleasing car park. Maybe not everyones cup of tea, but the ear to ear grin hasn't worn off for me whenever I press the go faster pedal 😛 IMG_3886.MOV joined_video_0f729a34cc6649f59d298f2b077bfecf.MP4 IMG_4128.mov

  2. Finally made a decision and decided to go down the dealership route after negotiating a good discount on an immediate service and service plan 👍

  3. I have just sold my 63plate gs450h f sport after 16 months/10,000 miles. I would say interior quality/cabin noise is better. And like others have said it has more power in terms of the initial acceleration. I find the mid-range acceleration can be lacking especially when the battery is used up. The v6 sound is ok/ cvt. tax is 150/year. Insurance is same as my nx300h. servicing is more expensive. Warranty is more expensive. fuel economy is early to mid 30s for me. but yea, do test drive one or may be try out the es300h. hope it helps barry

  6. New HID bulbs have arrived! Which was pretty quick.... All installed, was a piece of cake. Despite not being able to feel my finger's... Lol. Definitely a whiter light and actually looked a little brighter than the oem one when side by side. Tonight will be the test especially as it's going to be raining... 7. Hi everyone.. picking up my first Lexus today having never owned one. Needed a reliable diesel for a commute, had enough troubles with the Ford's, GM and pugs in the past so thought I would give the Japanese a try..

  8. There's also Climair, which I used to have, but like the Heko ones, they sit in the window channel and have potential issues like damaged rubbers and your windows not actually being properly closed. Better off with the genuine Lexus ones. Yes, they're way more expensive but they stick to the door frames and don't impact on the integrity of the window or it's ability to close. They also look miles better, imo. https://www.lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/parts/lexus-is/lexus-is-phase-ii-2006-2013/lexus-is-2006-2013-exterior-interior/lexus-is-phase-2-wind-deflectors/

  9. I had a Primera (the last of the cracking pre-Renault ones) which had the cabin palette like the contents of a tin of mushroom soup. This they contrasted with fabric that looked like a child had crayoned all over. So I know something about the Japanese take on interior design. The 'coffee and cream' vibe of your GS puts me in mind of Y-fronts we had in the seventies... 😁

  10. The exact card I bought is no longer available on ebay, but there are other sellers if you search for "Lexus Toyota Premium Micro SD 13mm Card Sat Nav EUROPE LATEST MAP 2018 - 2019". This is for the "Premium" nav that is in my IS300h F Sport. You may need a different card if yours in not the premium one. Check here to see which one you have. https://www.lexus-mapupdates.eu/Coverage/Index. Once you get the SD card, it's pretty straight forward. Disconnect all bluetooth devices paired with car. Do not use while updating the audio and navigation systems. Do not turn the car off until the update is complete !!! 1. Car is stopped. Ignition is OFF. 2. Insert new micro SD in slot (after removing old micro SD) 3. Swith ON ignition. 4. Update will start automatically. 5. Some messages will come up, do not do any action, just relax and wait. 6. After the upgrade, turn off Ignition of the car. Wait about 1-2 minutes and "Start" again. 7. Enjoy I would reiterate that there are better nav solutions out there on your phone. I have my phone mounted on the right hand side vent and I use Google Maps. I got the update and I dont think I've used the Lexus nav once successfully since. I'm in ireland and when I used it locally it was sending me insane routes.

  11. My 2007 Lexus rx400h has also just passed its controls technique with no modification to the xenon headlights. I also used Autosur in Les sables d'olonne. Quitis fiscal sorted without an appointment, took about five mins. Still waiting for certificate of conformity and then ANTS.

  12. It was working fine before the recall work. Lexus Bristol trying to tell me it's a Common sc430 condition! Saying 3 others they have had in all have same dysfunctional delisting as if that's to be expected in this model! Deny it's anything they did during the recall. Tried disconnecting battery for an hour with no joy. If they cannot come up with a solution I shall be in contact with Lexus head office. Nobody else so far reports similar problem. Thanks for all your help and advice. Harry

  13. All a matter of taste but I like the interior colour.

  14. Thanks - I've driven a few Teslas. Astonishing machines! Not a fan of the interiors though, I much prefer Lexus build quality and luxury. I did wonder about business benefits with an electric. Hmmm.... 🙂 The big issue with the GS450H seems to be insurance costs and tax, which is around £600 per year in total more than my current IS. Oh, and their rarity! My IS is a Premier so I need to get a high spec Luxury, F-Sport or Premier to match its existing equipment levels. It's times like these when going for a brand which doesn't sell millions of vehicles in the UK is a bit of a pain!

  15. if there is enough interest I would be happy to arrange a group buy, what drives the cost on items like this is the initial engineering to develop it, if that engineering cost can be shared over multiple units instead of a one off it will dramatically reduce the cost, , I have worked for the likes of Jaguar Land Rover, Rolls-Royce etc sourcing components like these. Likewise I have worked with a UK manufacturer to develop 2 piece bells and rotor brake setup for the ISF, if a few are interested I would be happy to setup a group buy for these too

  16. If you do a search on "Youtube" I think you will find a video of the complete strip and rebuild of the Toyota V6 engine for replacing the timing chain. This should help you find what is holding the plate. The chain can be replaced however by splitting the chain on the drivers side cam sprocket after the tensioner is removed. Then attach the new chain "also split" with a split link. A simple tool can be made and bolted over the sprocket to keep the chain in contact with the sprocket so as not to loose the timing. The engine is wound over by hand until the split link appears. The link is then removed, and used to join the new chain that is now in the engine. The tensioner is refitted after winding it back to it's start position then releasing it against the chain to tension it. As said previously I have done this on a Mercedes V8 engine, and looking at the Toyota V6 there is little if any difference. I hope something there helps you. John.

  17. 1) can't really answer as we never actually drove one. Performance won't be very different to your IS, as the GS300h is less than 100kg heavier. Your IS with an adult passenger. If it frustrates you in the IS then you already know. 2) The GS450h is a lovely thing in many ways. It is overpowered in a way, but actually it is at its best when driven at six tenths. It's smooth, capable and relaxing, and rewards a relaxed driving style with languid torque rather than hoofing it. Ours returns an average of 37mpg (see fuelly sig below) and that's phenomenal for a 340bhp petrol car. Hopefully it won't upset or frustrate, but another car you might usefully take a look at is the Tesla model 3. I have one as well as our GS450h - while the GS is more refined (quieter inside with less road noise, softer and floatier) the Tesla is more comfortable for me (seat works better for me personally. This is very much a personal matter) and handles and performs in a different league. However, the real kicker is that you said you're building a business - if you're taking it as a company car then the entire value of the car can be written off against profits (ie you can reduce your business taxes by several thousand pounds against the purchase of a zero-emission vehicle), and your personal BIK rate will be 0% from April 20, 1% from 21 and 2% in 22, saving you thousands of pounds personally. If it's a personal car claiming mileage expense from the business, again you can minimise your tax bill by claiming at the HMRC 45p/25p rate against true running costs of around 5p/mile (lowering your business's taxable profits, and maximising personal transferance of cash from the business to you without paying income tax on it). The running costs of a Tesla 3 will be significantly less than the IS300h while performing above the GS450h. It's a bigger car than you realise, with a longer wheelbase than the GS, larger boot, fold down seats, etc.

  18. Tony Banks would be an awfully long drive for Kal but I'm one of those satisfied customers mentioned above. I asked him to make the stainless system on my GS300 as quiet as possible and that's exactly what he did. If it's any help, you're booked in for a specific time and there's a McDonalds round the corner. Alternatively pop in to Leeds for a mooch round. It's not like you just leave it with them for days on end.

  19. Possibly give Infinity Exhausts a call (Dodington Ash), 3 minutes off J18 of M4 near Bath. Infinity Sorted my LS, a few years back, no problems since. A bit of a drive, from London, and public transport nearby is naff, so if job is long, take a book or walking boots and get yourself down to Dyrham Park for the day

  20. I have always heard from every Lexus mechanic that UCA is (and always has been) been a full replacement. All other parts bushes can be replaced. I assume the greatest stresses are on the UCA, and to be honest amazed that the original bushes last as long as they do. On the point of corrosion, I would go with My sons MOT last week pointed out corrosion, when I think it should have read, the brake pipes need a bit of a clean and making sure they are not corroded (which they are not).

  21. Mine never did that, I did lose effectiveness, but that ended up being a pressure problem on the whole cooling system, which was easily fixed. I think they're telling porkie pies.

  24. I don’t have any specific knowledge of the Lexus air suspension, but my MB CLS63 has air suspension. I had similar issues with mine and the compressor gave up the ghost. Whilst MB failed to find the fault, I did find it in the end and it was a crack in one of the airlines. The fix was a £1.90 John Guest push fit connector. I had to change the compressor as well, but in total a £127 bill for parts and a couple of hours effort. A whole lot better than the thousands I was expecting if I’d had to change out the air struts. It could be as simple as that, so inspect all exposed lines very carefully. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  26. Mine is apparently not just a barge but a slab sided one!
    1 point
  27. Your attitude and input is neither helpful nor particularly welcome. “Old barge” is simply an term of an endearment and is not intended as a slur. “Barge” simply refers to the car’s size, because it’s big (and you can’t argue that the LS400 isn’t large). Also it refers to the car’s softer nature which again is not a criticism, it’s just an attribute of the car (an attribute that both me and my nephew happen to like). And the “old” part is simply a reference to the fact that the youngest example is now 20 years old. I did not intend to offend or upset with my initial post, however I’m not going to apologise for such an insignificant remark especially since no one else sees unduly bothered by it. I suggest you address your over sensitivity

  28. Ditto on my second IS300H and have had both premium and standard nav and both as dreadful as each other. I certainly would not pay to update them. I use TomTom on my Android phone just because I prefer the full map on the device rather than google and waze that download as your go (yes I know you can offline the route).

  29. Hi, thanks for taking time to respond. That is a good idea and I will try it if it happens again. I tested the battery with a multimeter (first time I ever used one) and the results were 14v when in ready mode. When it failed to go in to ready mode it went as low as 12.4 and didn't go any lower. As it didn't go any lower I didn't suspect a parasitic power loss. Called several lexus specialists for advice all of them offering their condolences and diagnostics at £200 per hour. LOL then CRY. But one specialist did suggest the key at fault. I forgot I had a spare key, it's not an original. Tried that and it worked. To my surprise. So I have two keys: A - key provided with purchase of car B - key copied from key A using aftermarket tech (faulty) I proceeded to test: x30 ignition starts with key A, not one no ready light occurrence. Car always started. Success. x30 ignition starts with key B, about 30% no ready light occurrences. Suspect faulty. The clue lay in the flashing security light. Every time key B failed to start car. I noticed the light didn't stop flashing like it did with the working key. So I suspect a dodgy transponder in that key. Hope this helps someone if they have similar issue.
