  1. My CT passed its MOT yesterday with no advisories. Just on 165K now, I had to tell you all how chuffed I am.

  2. It seems to be harder to shift the more expensive cars. As a private seller we cant offer the finance deals that you can from a dealer. Anything under £15000 is a bit easier to move on. That's why I sold the F type to the trade.

  3. How can they when they need to produce an engine which emits low emissions and being fuel efficient at the same time? they are working with what they got so is every other car manufacturer out there. ICE engines are banned in UK come 2035 so enjoy it whilst you can.. hopefully there will be some high powered V8's left for me to play with come that time..electric cars are ok in terms of performance but nothing comes close to opening up a well tuned ICE engine and hearing it roar..

  5. Hey Guys, I bought one of those headlight restoration kits and it worked wonders on my IS today. Only took about 10 minutes and I think it is worth it 🙂

  6. Hi, Can someone advise on the following. My CT has failed its MOT on both The alloys being buckled (badly distorted). The car is serviced at Lexus/MOT’d regularly at Lexus as required. I read that the warranty now MOT failures during MOT tests / just pay first £10. But it is not clear and there are no terms on what is covered. The price for 2 alloys is £850! Can anyone help clarify please. Thank you

  9. Rick you are allowed to name the insurers. Two years ago after getting a big price rise for my renewal I changed insures, and went with the cheapest on compare the market "Saga" They were by far the cheapest, and with a low excess. After the first year my premium rose by £20, and near the end of the insurance year I had a no fault claim. My renewal premium this year was exactly the same as last year. My claim was completely pain free with no hassle, and the use of a new Mercedes C class for 7 weeks. This is exactly as insurance should be. I believe they are advertising car insurance at the moment with a guarantee of no price increase for 3 years My premium for the GS450H was under £300. John.

  10. I struggled for access to the rear drains. Ended up feeding a length of thick soldering wire up the tubes from the drain points so as the wire came out in the depths of the sunroof frame. This let me know that at least they were not blocked. Have you taken the roof rails off? There's a gasket and bolts on each foot which I replaced just to be certain. Also sealed the roof seams whilst it was all off - the seams ended up being the 'real' problem albeit further back around the hatch area.

  11. The video clip shows the unit playing a CD but with MP3 files, rather than the Red Book standards of a normal CD (as written by Sony/Philips back in 1980s). I would not expect any system to be able to read an index file for a Red Book CD, as there appears (as far as I can tell) to be no standard for file naming conventions on a normal audio CD. You can witness the randomness of file names by downloading off the BBC Classical Magazine web site their weekly free tracks (they are more random in nature than Trump trying to spell Mississippi, or even say it) The only way you get any info is where the CD has embedded CD-TEXT which sits in a sub-channel the the original CDDA standards, this came long in 1996, and it was a few years later that we saw HIFI CD players that would display this text. I have a Sony home player that can read the text, but cannot display a Index of what is on the CD. So MP3 encoded CDs are actually data CDs with files that conform the standards that computer file systems need to read, and computers must build indexes from these records (otherwise searching for files would take way too long), so just like when you use Windows Explorer on PC, the Lexus is using (my own term), MP3 explorer to give you heads up of all the music you can play. So in summary I suspect the Lexus chaps just did not bother trying to read the CD-TEXT headers if they exist, and given that most CDs even today do not hold CD-TEXT they never saw it as a worry, especially as MP3 was starting to take over in the mid 2000s. If anyone thinks I am talking roobarb, please do correct me, as it is well over 15 years since I bothered properly getting my head around why my different players in different cars, and even the many different computers and HiFi CD players I have at home all did different things. Nowadays I just plug my phone into the cassette adaptor in my LS then focus on driving rather than wondering if I listening to the edit version of Geek Love by Bang Bang machine, or the full blown remix by Ray Shulman (Spangle Mix). With over 4000 tracks on my phone I sure as heck cannot remember them all.

  12. Having previously worked for Toyota at their factory in Burnaston, they have a habit of keeping things very hush hush until they are in pre production.I have heard they are investing in solid state batteries which are supposed to be lighter and more energy efficient. I also wouldn't be surprised for them not to bother with EV and move to hydrogen fuel cell they already produce a car called the mirai which is a hydrogen powered car.Toyota is a company that will only change when sales of current models drop off. If hybrids continue to sell well why change?

  13. I could understand if the exit point was blocked behind the rear bumper as it would then overflow and come out of the fitting. There are also the ventilation flaps that I found to have a very small amount of water on. I will attach some pictures tonight. But I have ran some small plastic tubing back up to the sun roof from the rear and it seams clear. So now I'm running out of options. I will have to lock myself in the car and get the Mrs to pour water over.

  14. Yeah the UX is pretty small, I am hoping to get a loaner from Lexus Glasgow soon on the UX to experience it for myself. I have heard Hyundai/Kia with issues, even the Iconiq has a few. Fingers crossed over the next few years they will. Guess they will need a serious amount of BEV's by 2030 if they are to sell any cars in UK 🙂

  15. Not 100% reliable 100% of the time! when it works it’s ace but when it don’t connect to my phone hotspot it’s a pain and I can’t wait to Fanny around with it and just drive without using it!

  16. I would think that you should get a little better than 33mpg especially as hybrids like town driving. If consumption is important then have you considered a CT or a UX. I have had both as loan cars and both are very economical especially if your budget stretches to a UX. Good Luck in your quest

  19. Having heard good reports about the UX I sat in one in the showroom the other week and it seemed more car like and a bit claustrophobic. I didn't bother with a test drive that they offered. Going to keep an open mind on the future, but looking at historical success in the EV market Tesla seem to be the leader. I have had a look at one of the Hyundai/Kia EV forums in the past and there were long threads about prop shaft balance causing problems. It will be interesting to see how quickly Lexus get their act together with BEVs. With their experience of hybrids I thought they would have been farther ahead in the development of pure electric vehicles by now. Looks like I am just going to have wait and see. In the meantime my RX glides me around serenely lol.

  20. I've used both the RAC (with previous cars) and have to say that they were both excellent - but RAC edged it - extremely thorough and nothing was too much trouble. Ive never paid the full price though - and always used a rebate house like Quidco or Topcashback - - (Quidco currently rebating about 47% of the RAC membership costs)

  21. I had this problem with my RX350. It was caused by a kink in the tube inside the trim panel at the side of the boot. I fixed it by replacing the last 10cm or so with a piece of copper tubing and have had no more problems since. I think I posted some pictures of this previously which you can probably find in my earlier posts.

  22. Thank you for all the information you provided! Really helped me a lot in the process of finding the leak. As with many others, I realised I had a problem when the carpet in all the foot wells were drenched in water. I stripped the car for carpet, panels and seats and started the search for the leak. I don’t have a sunroof and soon understood that the leak must have come from the back (trunk area) and poured down to the foot wells. I also had a lot of trouble finding the leak, due to the double and triple(!) panels. My girlfriend sprayed the back of the car with a hose, and I sat inside observing water Pouring down both the sides ( c-pillars), but not being able to see where from because of the double panels. I then bought a inspection camera and slid behind the panels. And happily found the source to my trouble! The clips and Phillips screws holding the rear bumper up, just below the black plastic trimming next to the tail light was totally open! The water just flowed right trough it. I took out both the screw and plastic clip, taped the hole with duct tape (temporarily) and voila! No more water. I also used the inspection camera up along the c-pillar to inspect if I had a problem with the body seam above the gas strut. But from what I could see inside the panel cavity it looked like the main problem was leakage from the two bolts holding the gas strut. Will probably make a rubber gasket and lay between the body and strut and I think that will fix the problem. Hope this will maybe help someone out there! The picture is from thomasN post, but is the clip and screw I took out and taped the hole. Remember to use degreaser, so that the tape sticks well.

  26. Just had one installed by Lexus Sheffield - very pleased with it, both in terms of quality and price. It comes as a kit that Lexus/Toyota have put together which includes the following items: Nextbase 380GW (1080p Recording with GPS and WiFi) Link 16GB MicroSD Card NBDVRHK - Hard Wire Kit NBDVR380BAT - Battery Pack (to allow use of Intelligent Parking Mode - camera automatically starts recording if movement detected) All in, including fitting it was £275 inc VAT. The kit has the product code GBNGA-LEXDC-AM Considering the camera on its own without the sd card, hardwire kit or battery is £179 I thought the price was excellent. The quality of installation is great with no sign of wires at all. It fits flush with the windscreen so the image quality is really good - the camera doesn't get shaken about.

  27. I've had the same problem with my car and I found out that the pipe near the Egr valve had come off, from checking the turbo to egr valve and finding out just a vaccum pipe that causes the car to play it like that.

  28. The seam sealants are all applied on the line by robot, it only needs a slight miss-application during a batch build and "bingo" you have several hundred or even thousand with a leak, at this age and with the TSB alert it appears there was a problem with the application. Polyurethane sealant is the original type usually and if correctly applied is there for life (and more! damn stuff never moves) and takes normal paint when cured. If you find a leak and do not have access to this sealant try some "black-tac" it stays pliable but sticks like STAB although overpainting is not recomended, so best for internal seam leaks.

  29. A bodyshop gave me this, which is what they use when doing panelwork. To be honest the original sealant should last the lifetime of the vehicle, it doesnt say in the TSB why the seam cracks there? Hopefully the new sealant will see it through now.

  30. Great work Simon. Just as a matter of interest how did you reseal the seams and how long would you expect them (the replacements and the originals) to last? Paul

  31. Some pictures as requested, thanks to Paul for some TSB's regarding water ingress, which i put to good use Remove the centre under floor plastic compartment, this is held in place by two black plastic clips either side of the compartment, you can grab this and pull up which will loosen the clips then you can remove them (press the buttons to flip up the floor to get the box up) Close up of clip & location These clips are reusable With centre box removed, looking towards offside of vehicle. Its these side compartments that need to come out as this is where the water was coming in. Remove the front bolts and rear nuts holding the flappy panels, i also removed the tool box just to do a bit of cleaning up. You can now remove the side compartments. Looking towards the rear panel from inside, you can see where the water has stained the sealant flowing in (the black smudges above the clip) Close up of under the side compartment, the water was pooling to the left just by the plastic clip After reading the TSB's, it was stated that RX's suffer from the seam cracking above the upper back door strut mounting Close up of the offending seam, you can see it is discolouring and cracked too. It only takes a pin hole for water to enter I cleaned and resealed these seams, water tested and bingo! no more swimming pools :) I just hope this helps someone else from major problems as have been revealed,
