  1. Just wanted to say hi to everyone. Been a lurker on here for over a year, and thought it was time to actually sign up and get involved. Very happy with my GS F which I have owned for almost 2 years now. I love the rarity as well as no-one knowing how good these things are when they see them. Here's a couple of pictures for you.

  2. Here we go again, new shocks take two! The usual amazing service from FedEx, four days from shipping to delivery. The new ones are KYB which is the make of the original air shocks. I fitted the rears today, the fronts, weather permitting, will be done tomorrow. Then it's a case of was it worth it!

We take our Spaniel on the back seat of our car and to save the leather etc. bought one of the dog car hammocks (lots available online) that cover the seat base, seat back, back of front seats and each side. It also came with a strap that plugs into the seat belt socket and onto our dog's harness ensuring the dog can move around on the back seat but is restrained properly in the event of anything unforeseen happening. Well worth the cost to save the back of the car from any claws and means less hoovering out too.

  5. Run flats require special rims, so unless the car already had run flats, which I do not think is the case with the IS, you would have to replace the time also. A word of warning though: run flats mean a pretty hard ride. Our Mini has run flats and we would not choose then again, despite their benefits. Sent from my Galaxy Note 10 Plus using Tapatalk

  6. Hybrid yearly Lexus health check should be done to get a guaranteed 15 year life from it. About £60ish. Another 8 years at £60 is cheaper than one new battery. I used a main dealer for my 100k service and feel they did not try to rip me off.

  9. I used a baby wipe or 2 to remove scratched film completely and permanently. Looks fine without it.

  10. It used to be the case that you could tell the age of a car by checking the logo on the glass. Assuming the glass was the same age as the car. You had to look at the words Laminated or Toughened, and there were dots above and below the words. I have no idea whether or not something similar still exists. It's a long time since I looked, and that may have only been with British built cars ? Then again you can check the age of any UK registered car by going to ....... https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax

  11. You obviously did the right thing. Regards buying not from Lexus, the problem is that it is very very tough to sell a second hand car and achieve a good price. As a result most trade in through the dealer and I would think many RX customers stick with the car because they are so good. My son had a mint RX for sale a year ago and had it advertised through this site as well as Autotrader. It had full Lexus Service history and still under Lexus extended warranty, and low mileage. He had too many people trying to buy it cheaply, even from on here. In the end he stuck to his guns and got his price, but I doubt he would wish to repeat the process. Every person that viewed commented how clean it was in comparison with others they had seen , which supports your experience. I’m sure you will find what you want, but in the end good ones sell for good prices.

  14. Had new model Catloc fitted today. No more vibration or rattles. Magic carpet ride has been restored. Substantial stainless steel cage. Looks to give far better protection than the previous model. Good response from Lexus in resolving issue.

  18. Hi Richard I would have been happy to pass it on to you but unfortunately it is in the boot of the car at the auction site. I thought the new owner might want to refit it to the car and I had no use for it. I didn't really want to sell the car but I haven't used it very much this year and it is a shame just to keep it sitting in the garage. I had always planned on joining this site but the car has never had a fault since I bought it so I hadn't any questions to ask. I will be buying another Lexus to replace my daily drive so it was worth joining. Whoever buys it will get a good car.

  19. I used a wet wipe and it removed the marks without removing the anti-glare. Dried the screen and now it's immaculate too. Nice!

  20. Ask your local Lexus dealer for the price of an Essentials service - this is for cars over 5 years old and so cheaper than the "full" servicing but seems to cover pretty much the same. Essentials service also includes the hybrid Health Check (~£60 if done separately). When that is added in the prices for Essentials services are not too much more than a good Indy. The 100k mile service is a bigger one however as I believe engine coolant and hybrid inverter coolant should be changed.

  21. It takes a damn sight more than 4k mes to run an engine in Fusspot. More like 40k miles. The Golf GTi of just a few years back its engine was run in at 120k miles. Yes 120 Thousand miles. I'd say your mpg has improved because you have learned how to drive your car properly. In the 3 hybrid lexus cars ive had i could control the economy easily by how i drove it. Best in is300h was 58mpg worst was 33. RX450h best was 47mpg worst 22. As a comparison to none hybrid my is250 in the short time I've had it so far worst is 25mpg and best is an amazing 40mpg. As Zotto has stated. Hybrids work better in warmer weather than in colder. Enjoy your UX as you probably have the best hybrid.

  24. I agree with Michael. The Lexus satnavs are clunky, counterintuitive, slow and basically horrible. I used to use a TomTom but now just mainly use Waze (and What 3 Words) on my phone. Infinitely better and far less hassle and stress than using the Lexus one.

  25. Hate to say this, but unless its really low mileage and in pristine condition, you'd be lucky to make £1k with a faulty battery. Even if its only 1 dodgy cell, thats still £700 minimum to get it sorted properly or possibly a lot more (£2k if it turns out it can't be reconditioned). I've called around a few that offered it cheaper and well... don't trust em. They didn't even know the basics.... You've not really given that much to go off, looks like the mileage is around 125k? which isn't bad for the age, but at the end of the day its still a 14 year old car. Got mine for just over £1k, they advertised it as working for more, when it turned out the battery was damaged, they gave me a big refund to pay for the repair, its slightly younger but got a few more miles on it. Parkers agrees that 2.2k is the top end (-700 for the battery fix so 1.5k). Bottom end is 1.6k which would leave it sub 1k, so you'd really provide a lot more details for it to be worth considering at 1.5k, such are a check over from a good mechanic and full recent MOT, internal pictures to see it's really well kept inside e.t.c. and thats not considering the extra hassle (and risk) someone has to go to getting the battery fixed. If you can provide the extra details and preferably a list of error codes that the car is throwing, someone might be more willing to take you up on it. (Hell if they find anything major wrong with mine, I'd be tempted since I could switch my new battery in 😉 )

  27. I have a 2011 SE L Premier with every option incl ML sound system. Awesome car and so comfortable. I don’t need boot space which is lacking on these. It’s on 106K now and is faultless. MPG in my opinion is much better on the pre facelift compared to the later ones. I did have a couple of CT,s as courtesy cars whilst mine was being serviced (later models) and found the ride no different to mine. Yes it’s a bit harsh on 17” wheels but certainly better than other manufacturers that I’ve driven. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  28. I have a 2014 CT Luxury and it has the premium nav that comes with upgraded stereo which IMO is really really good. I would definitely recommend the Premium nav as I find the second screen very useful in terms of monitoring the instantaneous mpg bar and it gives a more modern looking instrument cluster to me. Bought used at 44k miles from Lexus dealer and added around 50k of faultless miles. I do similar miles each day pre-COVID19 in Oxfordshire and averages about 58 mpg (69 mpg best). I also like the relatively sporty handling but the ride on A and B roads may be quick harsh for some people but it is still more comfortable than my new 69 reg F56 Mini Cooper. With the Lexus essential care service (discounted service price), the CT is a reasonably cheap and utterly reliable luxury compact car. I have just renewed my extended warranty for the second time. I was looking to sell and upgrade to an NX or RX about a month ago due to the addition of a new family member but let's see...

I'm glad to see that it's finally being sorted Karl, but it really makes my blood boil to see/hear people talking of the hybrid and high voltage side of things when that has nothing to do with it. For a running car, yes, but when talking of having the unit on the bench to work on it, no. And the people who said this: are complete numpties! As it turns out you've found out that there's something else wrong other than just the one corroded pin but as yet, we don't know what. I'm not saying that I could have successfully completed the whole job but if I lived closer I would have been more than happy to take on the initial problem for you. Anyway, good luck and I really hope this guy comes up trumps for you - please keep us posted won't you?

  30. As a radio ham I'm acutely aware of interference but what people may not know is that any manufacturer of any electronic equipment is supposed to build it with an immunity to interference. Sadly, many fail miserably in this respect.

  31. Only when driving.🤣 Edit - apparently rule 57 of the highway code says pets have to be suitably restrained to avoid distraction and injury. The SC430 has rear seat belts so that should be possible if the dog is in a secured harness or enclosure.

  32. There is a problem on the older screen filters in that they mark easily. In the US this was treated as a warranty issue but in the UK it seems to be a bit hit and miss depending on your dealer. However you can buy the replacement filter with trim for around £40 from a dealer. Part number is 86134-53030

From my own perspective, I had a 2007 GS300 and these are the issues (all expensive) that mine suffered from: Exhaust split at the Y junction...a common well documented issue resulting in about a £600 bill for a new rear exhaust section; premature failure of all shock absorbers...again well documented and due to under-specified shocks, something which Lexus has never addressed; failure of one of the hydraulic tappet seals meaning engine out and new hydraulic tappets (had the lot replaced) but I gather this was a very rare occurrence; a re-flash of the ECU needed when the rear soft close of the boot failed to operate Failure of the wheel lacquer finish, a common issue due to poorly specified lacquer system resulting in a £340 bill to have the wheels powder coated; bubbling of the paint on the aluminium bonnet requiring a complete respray, all due to a badly done stone chip repair. That car cost me dear.
