Amazingly Low Insurance Quote!

Recommended Posts

Just had my renewal from A-Plan at £359.90 ( including £29.00 for Legal Expenses) so let's say £330.90.

I'd heard of a company called "Footman James" who specialise in classic car insurance so I thought I would give them a try with an online quote.

Going throught the usual questions it gets to where you enter your registration number and once again as with all other websites mine isn't recognised so "please enter your vehicle details manually" pops up.

Here we go my Celsior doesn't appear on the Toyota model dropdown list as usual so I tried Lexus as the make and lo and behold "Celsior" does appear there!

I continued with the questions and answers declaring a no fault accident and my annual mileage would be limited to 3000 a year.

The comprehensive cover also includes amongst other benefits agreed value for no extra charge, covers club meets and a policy excess of just £50.00

The quoted premium was £139.00 for the year, I couldn't get my credit card details in fast enough!

Sorry A-Plan I won't be renewing this year. :)

I remember these people now a few years back I used to own a Reliant Scimitar which had a genuine 42k on the clock value at the time around £4k/£5k and they wanted with agreed value over £600 the most I ever paid was £120 restricted 3000 miles PA so it will be interesting to see how much they want for Lexie. You will be aware, I'm sure, but I think I'm correct in thinking that you also must insure another car under "normal" insurance, as your main vehicle?

They asked if I had access to another vehicle and I answered yes as I have a company van for commuting/work.

Thought it was wortth mentioning, it does not take much for them to wriggle out of a claim. That is a great deal.

Footman James have been doing 'classics' for MANY years! I used them on my DS23 in 80s.

Helps if you're a car club member too. (As enthusiasts probably care for their vehicles?)

That was another question asked in the quote, I answered yes and gave my username but the LOC was not in the dropdown list?

Thats a great price for insurance. The only problem is when you insure your car through a classic car policy you will lose any no claims bonus you have built up, so when/if you come to insure either this or another car through a normal insurance policy your no claims bonus will be ZERO!! It happened to me where I insured my Lexus through Adrian Flux for a good price but didn't realise it was on a classic policy. When I changed occupation the price jumped up massively on renewal so I changed to a normal policy and then realised I had lost my maximum no claims bonus and had to start again with ZERO bonus again and have now got to build my bonus up again, so while I had a couple of years of cheaper insurance I am paying for it now until i build up my maximum bonus again.

Good point I had forgotton that. When IO had my CC policy I already had 2 other cars on insurance each with their NCB. Mike

I went with Direct Line this year as they were cheaper than Adrian Flux. Strangely though, very soon after renewing my insurance with them, Adrian Flux contacted me to say they could match my deal with Direct Line. When it was coming up to renewal time, why didn't Adrian Flux just quote me their cheaper price in the first place? I think many times Insurance Companies just try it on.

I've just tried to get a quotation from Footman James but they'll only give classic car cover on a Lexus that's twenty years old or more. So I'll try again in three years' time! At the moment I've got a classic car policy with RH Insurance, which was a lot cheaper than a 'normal' one.

My documents arrived this morning as promised within 5 days, even have an agreed value cerificate.

Correct about the no claims discount as it doesn't apply to these policies, apparently I need to use it within 2 years or lose the lot if I ever change cars, might buy a cheap group one and insure that when the time comes just to retain the NCD.

Like Scribe, I tried Footman James (online) but it came up with unable to quote - no reason given but probably due to car being under 20 years old.

I also have both my LS400s on a classic policy with RH, who I have been with for a long time.

Hi guys, not found any amazing cheap quotes for my Lexus, nor my Mazda 323f which is now 20 yrs old btw... August 2014

BUT my 1932 Triumph Southern Cross Sports Tourer is on fully comprehensive Classic Insce with Swinton from Towergate and at £157.02 until Feb 2015 ............. 3 named drivers ( incl me ), £200 excess, Market Value or replacement ( only 6 or 8 left worldwide ) and at £35k ( heaven forbid there's a write-off claim ! ) ..... 1500 miles per annum and it can be used for shows etc. competitions, rallies, and trials but NOT racing and the like.

The loss of NCD would worry me for the Lexus and the Mazda tbh as both these are in daily and regular use and I will probably just continue normal insce for both these come renewal ( in March I think )

I've used RH for all my 'classics' for maybe 15yrs now. Fortunately never had to claim, but I've found them to be helpful and the policies seem good value. The LS400 was first car where I've had to pay a bit more than the usual £100-120/yr, and even then it wasn't a lot.

I have another car insured as a daily driver with my NCB on that policy.
