  2. I found it difficult to do this job properly, because I couldn't reach it all! These are on sale in Aldi at the moment:- https://www.aldi.co.uk/autoxs-car-windscreen-cleaning-set/p/095578196588500 They are £2.99, I bought one last year and they make the job a doddle in my opinion. Hope that this helps somebody! Regards, Brian.

  3. Oh you Brits, you are so lucky without realizing it!! Some 70k for a brandnew GSF?? Only in the UK.. Overhere in The Netherlands the fiscal system is totally based on Co2 and a GSF will set you back a healthy 170k Euro. Picking one up for 30 is something we can only dream about also because there is just no ( no ) market here, there are no cars for sale secondhand, same with the RCF. People spending such a big sum on a new car tend to take a recognizable brand like the AMGś , M cars or RS es. Its a bit like with watches. some people buy a Rolex - and not another make - as other people recognize that as an expensive thing. Ever been in a high end Mercedes dealer that also has the AMG dealership? seen what sort of people walk around? Need i say more? Lexus seems to be more for people in the know, a niche market for connoiseurs. I think it will stay that way for a long time, also the LC and LS will propably sell in tiny numbers Enjoy your big thirsty eight cyinder monstercars while it lasts, i will happy battery along in my IS300H ( for Hybrid) !

  4. Absolutely spot on, the depreciation is massive from new to who knows where, in a way I don't care, I wanted the car the price was the price and I paid it, and I absolutely love it, I whatever it is worth when I come to change I will deal with at the time, until then I will enjoy my pride and joy..........................

  8. I have faith in the modern engines but also aware of the perception in this country that over 100,000 miles is frowned upon, and I have always sold my cars before they reach this milestone for an easier sale. Wrong, hopefully we can move away from this stigma.

  9. Its a strange outlook in this country, we still base our opinion on a cars mileage as we did in the 70s, your average Ford Cortina or Hillman Avenger was scrap by the time it hit 90,000 miles, that's if it even made it that far, today modern engines will hit 300.000 miles if looked after, big diesels regularly hit 600,000 miles before major maintenance issues. I have a Honda Civic, it had 126,000 miles on it when I bought it, one owner with full history, I would trust it to go to the moon and back................ As long as the general public shy away from "big mileage cars", it leaves some great bargains for those of us in the know.

  10. Cars are a bad investment 99.9% of the time but most are prepared to take a varying amount of financial loss (this will depend on your personal situation) for the pure delight of driving, especially an F!

  11. This retro owner has lots of cassette tapes and finds it very useful. Some owners on here find Landsail or Three A tyres perfectly adequate at less than £75/corner. If potential purchase does not have at least two keys be aware that a new key is very expensive (£200 or £300 or so) so good bargaining point. A hybrid battery cheque is a mere £59 and gives a warranty for 12 months too. It is still a gen 3 GS so if you don't like the handling of the 300 will you like the 450? The boot is smaller than the gen 2 or 3 GS300. Check it is big enough for your needs. I think the forum members are pretty well 100% in loving the gen 3 450h. John

  12. The manual says that in winter weather you should: "Park the vehicle and move the shift lever to P without setting the parking brake. The parking brake may freeze up, preventing it from being released." As for the pads being worn, I was given some useful information from a dealer, who said the front pads measure 12mm when new and the rear ones 10mm. I expect the rear ones are smaller because they're assisted by the hybrid drive. Mine have all worn around 20% after 40,000 miles. If that continues, they should last 200,000 miles!

  14. Great story and credit to Lexus Liverpool. When I picked up my F from Lexus Stoke I noticed a lack of fuel in the car. The salesman said “There’s a supermarket not too far away and you can get fuel there”. Quality

  15. What an absolutely stunning looking car you have there. Fantastic colour. You must be over the moon. I'm hoping to join the F club myself soon. There's one at Lexus coventry I've got my eye on.

  17. 8 am she goes on the ramp and 20 mins later we have a new certificate. Offside Front suspension has slight play in a lower suspension ball joint (2.5.B.1a) Nearside Front position lamp(s) deteriorated, but still visible from a reasonable distance (1.1.A.3d) Front Tyre worn close to the legal limit (4.1.E.1) Some underside corrosion. How happy can car owning when you have a Lexus? Just 5000 miles in the last year. I must get those new tyres fitted now.

  24. Wow - I didn't realise that. Your's hasn't got those has it? The only GS-F I've seen dripping in orange bits was the one that turned up to Kemble and I recall the chap saying he'd spent thousands on orange bits. I apologise profusely for lack of GS-F knowledge I did drive a GS450h F-Sport once however.

  25. Well done Mike. Piddly advisories for a car of that age. Most other makes would have a list as long as a giraffe's trousers!

  26. That's an interesting point you make Sean, I think the Gsf in blue especially, and white is far from a sleeper, in black I would agree, the carbon accents don't stand out, nor do the wheels, I think the Gsf is the most colour sensitive model in the "F" line up which is good if you want to blend into the background, however(here we go) I cannot be accused of being in that camp!!!

  28. I always insured my Isf with Lexus insurance, I found their prices very reasonable, didn't insist on a tracker and the customer service in the event of a claim was second to none. Sadly the quote for my Gsf was very high in comparison to others and I left them.

  29. Yeh, good points. The orange calipers are a after market thing on the GS-F? That's frightening depreciation.

  30. @Arqum @DAW Yes as you know changed the isF for the RcF last week and I've gone with them again, maybe it's because I'm very old now and drive like Miss Daisy....... who ever knows...... none of us are privy to what there criteria really is for any given individual unless you work in that industry. 🐀

  31. Realy surprised by that as I have my ISF with them on an agreed value policy & I believe @Big Rat had his ISF with them on a similar basis before he sold it. Shame because I found them very helpful. Only got this type of policy myself for the 1st time last year, so I’m afraid I can’t help with an alternative as options seemed pretty limited when I looked then. Would be interested to know what alternatives you find though👍🏻

  33. While doing another job on car I checked with the MoT tester again. The central part of the backing plate does support the parking brake cable and the internal shoes. BUT he said if the rest of a rusty plate is cut away and removed, leaving the mounting intact, that is NOT an MoT failure. He confirmed that the MoT manual does refer to the securing devices, not the plate itself. Again, your choice as to replacing them. David

  36. Great cars. I bought a 2008 SE-L last July after lots of looking. No regrets. The GS450H’s came out in 2006 and had a facelift in 2008 (indicators in the door mirrors being the giveaway). There was another facelift in 2010 with a different grille and improved HDD based nav. Depending on what extras you want will dictate what model you need to look for. Up to 2008 radar cruise and sunroofs were standard on the SE-L, optional after 2008. All models have leather seats, nav, reversing camera, cruise control, keyless entry, etc etc so are well equipped relative to the equivalent MB or BMW. That said I use my radar cruise every day and wouldn’t want to be without it now. This is called ACC (active cruise control) in Lexus land. I also have a part wooden steering wheel which was an optional extra. Lexus will sell you a two year warranty for £1100 which is very well regarded and is what I plan to do in July after my car’s one year used warranty runs out. This means I enjoy a £50K car without too many worries of unexpected scary bills. Stipulations are the car has to have a full Lexus service history and be under 10 years old and under 100,000 miles. They are economical relative to their size and performance but still quite thirsty in absolute terms. I’m averaging mid to late 20s to the gallon. Others here manage more. Tyres are about £120 to £150 per corner for a decent brand. I have a 70,000 mile Service coming up in the next 3 months which I’m expecting to cost around £600 at Lexus Cambridge. I’d buy on condition rather than age, but would prioritise age over miles if that isn’t contradictory. In short these cars can cover high mileages and I’d sooner have a later car with 80,000 than a 2006 with 40,000, assuming both were in excellent condition with Lexus stamped service books. It’s a fast car but not one that wants you to attack every apex or be the last of the late brakers. It will do all these things but you get the impression from the chassis it would rather you grow up and drive properly. As a relaxed, quiet, comfy place to be it is superb, and has dragster like properties when you want it. Perfect for me and my commute but it’s not a BMW M car. Any questions feel free to ask. There’s a lot of knowledge on these forums and people are very helpful and enthusiastic. Good luck with your hunt! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  38. Quick update on today's treatment from Lexus. Absolutely top class as you'd expect, Liverpool Lexus really pulled out the stops for me on this one after Fridays hiccup. Nice easy train journey to Liverpool with a beer in hand.. picked up by Leigh from Lexus in the brand new LS500h premier.. chauffeured to Formby Hall to be checked into the executive loft suite! Lexus you have me for life like it or not. Can not wait to collect the car tomorrow.

We go off Kilometres and not Miles over here but I thought I might add on this page.... my series 2 Ls has just clocked over 1,100,000 klms on the odometer!! equivalent to 800,000Miles! and might I also add... it has a full genuine Original purchased from Lexus dealership service history!! not one service has been missed by the lexus guys for its whole life ! it still drives like it would of the day it left the showroom floor. original engine, never had a head gasket or anything done !!

  43. So all it's that time of year again. I'm looking at agreed value policies this time. Any advise on who to speak to or go with? Before people say Adrian Flux... I called them this morning and the guy at the other end of the phone was not remotely interested and said we can't insure you. So sod them.

  45. Honestly the guy had no interested. Kept asking me what have I been quoted already when I told him clearly that it's the 1st time I'm getting quotes on this type of policy. I even said I can give you the renewal quote on my normal policy. Again he couldn't care less

  46. This happend to a guy in Sweden who had a new BMW 520D some months ago, they had the keys near the car which was parked on the driveway. Thiefs stole the signal, joy rode the car. Then dumped it in a river near the house at like 2am. Police came knocking on the door at 3am asking if anyone was still in it. Insurance company denied claims, saying it was stolen with the keys (they read the cars computer). BMW have no intentions to help the guy out either, they're on the same trail as the insurance company. This will probably go to court later this year, poor guy.
