  1. I changed jobs just before Christmas, 36 Mile, country lanes, then mainly smart motorway and some road work zone. This morning the traffic conditions must have been hybrid ideal as managed to break the 70 mpg barrier, just kept to the same speed as the trucks (even went past a few). Only added 5 mins onto my journey over normal. Normal average speed is around 40mph, today it was 38! Quite impressive for a 2.5l petrol!

  5. I believe they are OEM, and I recall when I took car for inspection a few weeks back, they said having had LS400 with KYB shocks on is never the same as going for original and they have replaced a number of aftermarket shocks when quite new because they made ride not at all good.. They did say it is not cheap to do it right. So bill was £735 - that also included fitting of new stabiliser bushes, which were starting to go. Each shock was £202 + VAT. Not cheap, but with suspension and control arms my preference is for OEM. On way home tonight I could feel the back end shocks as being not too good (on some speed humps), but I think I can live with that for rest of year, and then look at what needs to be done. Also asked about the cambelt (now on 60K) and was told not to worry about that for a while yet. One other thing with new shocks was noticeable lowering of road noise on some of the cruddier motorway surfaces along the M4, not as quite as being in a field with only the noise of butterflies and whispering grass, but will allow my wife to make herself heard more clearly when telling off for undertaking (as i was filtering left off the M5 coming south to go towards Wales last weekend), DOH!

  6. On first impression that looks pretty good, there would also be a way we could "fool" the ecu to constantly run the fan unit on different stages of speed by adding fixed value resistors across the thermistor terminals, in Techstream there is actually a 6 speed graduation on the test function. The fans are very robust on our GS's. Looking out the window we definately don't need it today !

  7. I know that I do an excessive amount of mileage. but I have noticed that every 6 months (20K miles) my 300h starts to drop its economy, every time so far it has been the same reason.....the hybrid fan filter is getting blocked. Ive now become a bit of an expert on doing this now, and Ive no doubt that there are a few DIY mechanics who like to look over their own car. If you are doing your own servicing the please include this in your annual check. Tools: 2 x flat ended screwdrivers Pliers 10mm socket and ratchet The fan assembly is located on the right hand side rear inner wing, its all accessible via the boot, but you have to remove the inner panel in order to get at the fan and filter. First remove the false floor, then remove the tool tray below the false floor, there are 6 self expanding clips (3 on each side), in order to remove them prise out the centre with a flat ended screwdriver. lift the tool tray out, this will reveal another 3 of these clips that hold the carpet into the rear of the boot, these need to be removed as well the looking at the right side boot trim there are two load restraints that need to be removed, they are held in place with a 10mm bolt, this is hidden. in order to get at the bolt you need to prise the plastic cover away with a screwdriver Undo the 10 mm bolts and remove the restraints. Looking at the right hand inner boot panel there are 3 trim clips that hold the panel to the car, they are 'spined' and need to be prised out. you can see the 3 holes in the picture. With these out the last piece to be removes is the plastic threshold trim, this has another 3 of the spined clips that are used on the inner trim panel. Once they are removed the panel requires a sharp pull as there are 6 clips attached to the threshold trim that need to be released from the body. Now you can pull/bend the inner trim back to reveal the fan assembly and trunking for the air duct the black trunking that runs from the fan to the hybrid battery is held in place with 2 self expanding clips, again prise the centre pin out and the pull the clip out in order to remove the trunking. The motor is held in place with 2x10mm bolts and 1x10mm nut There is also a multiplug that will need to be disconnected in order to remove the fan assembly from the car. Once removed you then have access to the trunking that has the filter in it With the motor out of the way the trunking is held in place by a tag at the bottom of the trunking that locates on a plastic pin, a sharp pull will see it come free. and this is what you may find!! Full of fluff and crud, with a vacuum cleaner give this a good clean, then clean the motor. The vanes will be fill of dirt and crud as well, with an airline blow this all out (watch your eyes as there will be a lot of dust) Cleaned out Putting it all back together is the reverse this, however when reconnecting the fan motor please make sure the connectors go back together with a solid 'CLICK' if they don't and the pins haven't made good connection you will get a 'check hybrid' error message, once the fan motor and trunking is in place and before I have built up the interior trim I normally turn the ignition on so as to check that everything is in order. Hope that helps

  8. I hate rust on cars, so my Landrover defender is rebuilt on a galvanised chassis with galvanised bulkhead and had the axles all all brackets galvanised at the same time. I still cavity wax the chassis. The Lexus I bought last week had a bit surface rust underneath, suspect Scottish winters and salt on the roads: Nothing structural but not great, my last 12 year old Saab 9-5 was much better protected.

  10. If I see another car ad for a Lexus that says...or another seller that tells me: ’oh yes the belt has been done...I don’t have the receipt but I’m sure the garage will verify it...’ walk away moment... 🙄

  13. Yes, It looks to have been on there for a few weeks. The price has come down a bit as well since they initially posted it. i am surprised Lexus Guildford didn't snap it yup. It is the perfect colour for me but I would really like a black interior instead of the red. Nothing against the red leather, just personal preference I guess. I was surprised as well. Lexus Hull delivered our RX and picked it up again when we discovered that the windscreen wasn't fitted correctly! Newcastle valued my IS250 today over the phone but the figures were far from ideal so I think I may consider selling it privately. Good luck with the search too Barry. Let me know what the Newcastle car is like if you there before me!

  14. Hi, as I'm in the the same league looking for this shape RX, I found it ever so difficult to find a premier at a cost which I didn't want to part with. Today morning I managed to secure a deposit on a used approved one in NI, so looking forwards to pickup on Sat and guess what.. I was going through the video and pictures and it don't have air Suspension 😝

  15. You can source back boxes from 3rd parties at more reasonable prices e.g. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F112434510850

  16. Thanks for your reply. I do have a local garage that may be able to assist with a weld repair. I had discounted this as repairable though as it's just in the area as it enters the box. I'll contact Tony Bank though as you suggest, to see what he suggests.

  17. Welcome to the forum Jim, the GS450h is a great car. I had a similar issue when I first acquired mine and Lexus didn't even quote for a replacement with their silly prices, they offered to weld it up #surprised! If your exhaust is still in reasonable shape then a decent garage should be able to repair it. If not, then Tony Bank (Leeds) made me up the rear back boxes and middle sections including cat's for around half of what Lexus quoted you. So hunt down a local specialist exhaust shop for a quote, it may surprise you. Exhaust pic's here; Good luck getting it sorted and do let us know how you get on.

  19. John, that's an interesting idea. The hybrid cooling fan can be controlled via the Hybrid Assistance app; https://hybridassistant.blogspot.com/2017/12/fan-assistant.html Quote... "The Fan icon is now a 3-state toggle; every tap will rotate between: OFF - fan controlled by the car MANUAL - forced ventilation AUTO - Hybrid Assistant will turn on or off according to temperature" I've only briefly tried this function and it did kick my cooling fan in to what seemed like overdrive.

  23. I had a very nice stainless steel exhaust made for my last car (a Honda Accord 3.0, V6) from Powerflow in Crewe. Fantastic job but not cheap. I'm treating this Lexus LS600h like a fine Swiss watch. I wouldn't send that back to an independent watch repairer when for just a few £ more you can send it back to an authorised repair centre in full knowledge that value is maintained. I'm also not sure that getting independents to work on the LS600h would be great news in respect of the 3 year manufacturer warranty that Lexus gave me with the car (despite having 100k miles on it at the point of purchase).

  24. I do not think that there is a 3rd Party Warranty available that will include cover for the Hybrid Battery. Better to use the Lexus Extended Warranty or have the Annual Hybrid Health check.

  25. I've just had a look at the advert for the Newcastle car, judging by the registration date and the fact it does say adaptive suspension in the spec, although I'm somewhat sceptical about written specs from dealer sites. Like I've said I did try one with AVS and then before that a standard one without (nothing at all wrong with the ride) but I decided I preferred the ride in standard mode with AVS. One, because I have found 70% of my driving is in standard mode and I enjoy the obvious softer ride, plus it is smart/quick enough to react should you get a move on. And Two, unlike a lot of cars in my past advanced extras like TVD and AVS won't cost a fortune to maintain, generally don't fail and if they do knowing the excellent Lexus aftercare service they'll probably replace anything without fuss or drama.

  26. So a few weeks back I decided to go for a late ISF (like many otheres recently I've noted) and on a thread discussing the red/brown one that reappeared on Autotrader d3ron gave me some advice "Make sure whatever you do, you don't pay over the odds. Some of the later isf's for sale are dangerously close to rcf prices". So I followed his advice and last night put down a deposit on this pretty blue RCF. I am sure I will be coming back to this forum with lots of questions in the coming weeks, but to start with....The current owner who has had the car since it was a demonstrator was using what he described as a master key and the keyless fob thing. I asked if that was all he had and he promised to check. So how many keys and of what type should I be getting? I would be very grateful for any quick replies before I collect the car on Wednesday next week, the 5th June. Thank you. Oh and question number 2. How do I bring the shine back to those four chrome exhaust tips? Thanks in advance for any help .

  27. Yes, I think that there is an element it being "different" - as I said before when I went back to a conventional autobox that was then "different" to what I had become used to with the e-cvt and I found it very alien again even though a few years ago I had numerous cars with conventional autoboxes. Also, I haven't driven a UX or ES to compare but in the IS the engine isn't all that intrusive and so although you know the revs have risen I don't find it particularly harsh or noisy - I have heard much worse in conventional drive train cars.

  28. Phil, I checked mine the other day and not working but current flowing. LOC.com thread said check the door switch and sure enough when pressing it in and out the light did come on intermittantly. Replacement part from USA reduced from $68 to $20 but I found this on ebay and so it may need a bit of modification or it may fit without modding. Cost £2 from China. Lexus part cost ??? wouldn't like to guess. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/163515809814

  31. Photo copy of your Driving licence and MOT cert, plus print out of your DVLA Licence check with code. Snow chains. (plastic) Just back from France early hours of yesterday morning - 450 miles in France a doddle - M20 and Dartford Tunnel (diversion) total nightmare! Added extra hour and a half and the failing to find route back to the Tunnel went to Blackwall Tunnel instead. Paid the emissions charge yesterday. Didn't see a single LS400 or 430. At a Serice Station somewhere beyond Orleon a guy siddled up to the Car and I thought hello hello begging ? but on talking to him - Pavel of Belaruse told me he had two LS400's and loved the Car. Showed me countless photo's on his Phone,f one which was roadworthy and the other a wreck. The wreck he had virtually on its side to do work on the underside. Also showed me a clip of his Dad doing Doughnuts in the better Car - on sand he hastely pointed out. Its nice to own something that is admired and not just the run of the mill Cars. Have a great trip Phil.
