  1. Was overtaken on the M5 northbound yesterday morning near Worcester South Junction when I was overtaken by a 2017 white Range Rover Evoque. No badges to indicate whether it was petrol or diesel, but it was leaving the biggest trail of blue oil smoke I've seen in a long time. I think it was probably in its 'death throes'.

  2. Again I say get in touch with Lexus "it does not matter what branch or how far away" and ask for there advice concerning the use of the wrong oil, and an estimate of how much to repair the damage. You then have proof to Halfords of the problem, and it's associated likely cost. John

  4. Well... finally, problem solved! Man this was a tough one. Ok so apparently the problem was with a connector at the driver side,(mine is LHD). In every documentation of this problem that I had it did not tell anything about the driver side connector. I took of the panel of and apparently a blue plug right at the bottom was the cause. I had a friend who is an expert with electronics and after hours of testing saw that the harness is in short and traced a light green cable that was the cause. Then we traced the wire to the drivers side and managed to sort out the problem. Hope my experience helps others if they encounter such a problem. The trace was even harder when the diagnose (techstream) pointed the BCPS as being faulty (error: c1378, sub code: 112). Again i want to thank you all for helping me with opinions. So happy everything is ok now.

  5. Great, just like mine looks.. But just imagine how yours looks after you've hit that pedestrian ... Then imagine how the relatives will look at you, never mind how your insurer will look at your case... But then you're potentially saving £xxxx , yeh!!

  6. fine for sedate and normal traffic?? Sedate driving is more likely to be responsible driving. The IS300H is not a boy racer. It is a grown ups car with more than adequate "performance" for todays motoring conditions. If you want a car that is a performance car go for something different. Probably also best to go on a race track so that you can enjoy the experience without accumulating penalty points.

  7. I know that I do an excessive amount of mileage. but I have noticed that every 6 months (20K miles) my 300h starts to drop its economy, every time so far it has been the same reason.....the hybrid fan filter is getting blocked. Ive now become a bit of an expert on doing this now, and Ive no doubt that there are a few DIY mechanics who like to look over their own car. If you are doing your own servicing the please include this in your annual check. Tools: 2 x flat ended screwdrivers Pliers 10mm socket and ratchet The fan assembly is located on the right hand side rear inner wing, its all accessible via the boot, but you have to remove the inner panel in order to get at the fan and filter. First remove the false floor, then remove the tool tray below the false floor, there are 6 self expanding clips (3 on each side), in order to remove them prise out the centre with a flat ended screwdriver. lift the tool tray out, this will reveal another 3 of these clips that hold the carpet into the rear of the boot, these need to be removed as well the looking at the right side boot trim there are two load restraints that need to be removed, they are held in place with a 10mm bolt, this is hidden. in order to get at the bolt you need to prise the plastic cover away with a screwdriver Undo the 10 mm bolts and remove the restraints. Looking at the right hand inner boot panel there are 3 trim clips that hold the panel to the car, they are 'spined' and need to be prised out. you can see the 3 holes in the picture. With these out the last piece to be removes is the plastic threshold trim, this has another 3 of the spined clips that are used on the inner trim panel. Once they are removed the panel requires a sharp pull as there are 6 clips attached to the threshold trim that need to be released from the body. Now you can pull/bend the inner trim back to reveal the fan assembly and trunking for the air duct the black trunking that runs from the fan to the hybrid battery is held in place with 2 self expanding clips, again prise the centre pin out and the pull the clip out in order to remove the trunking. The motor is held in place with 2x10mm bolts and 1x10mm nut There is also a multiplug that will need to be disconnected in order to remove the fan assembly from the car. Once removed you then have access to the trunking that has the filter in it With the motor out of the way the trunking is held in place by a tag at the bottom of the trunking that locates on a plastic pin, a sharp pull will see it come free. and this is what you may find!! Full of fluff and crud, with a vacuum cleaner give this a good clean, then clean the motor. The vanes will be fill of dirt and crud as well, with an airline blow this all out (watch your eyes as there will be a lot of dust) Cleaned out Putting it all back together is the reverse this, however when reconnecting the fan motor please make sure the connectors go back together with a solid 'CLICK' if they don't and the pins haven't made good connection you will get a 'check hybrid' error message, once the fan motor and trunking is in place and before I have built up the interior trim I normally turn the ignition on so as to check that everything is in order. Hope that helps

  8. Just a quick warts and all assessment of the first 1000 miles in my ES. All typed into my phone so please excuse lack of proof reading! The car is an Fsport with Takumi pack. THE GOOD Quietness - a very quiet and insulated cabin. once you are at cruising speed, its impressively quiet. Engine - the new 300H unit is much improved over the old one in my IS. It is now capable of cutting to electric power at high speed (circa 80mph) and in Eco mode this will combine with the active glide control so that you are gliding along without the regenerative system slowing you down. Although the power rating is similar to the old unit, it does feel abit quicker. Efficiency - also improved, 50mpg is easy to achieve on a journey, that’s impressive for a big car. Handling - I’m really pleased I went for the Fsport with the adaptive suspension set-up. Although it’s not the most advaced set-up, it strikes a very good balance. In eco/ normal mode it has a nice comfortable ride, with a nice degree of ‘wallow’, the 19inch wheels detract from this a little but it’s still good. Sport and Sports+ just tightens it up enough to give it a sporty edge. You would never take it on a trackday, but it feels a nicely resolved set-up. Front wheel drive is really not an issue in handling terms. Audio - the ML setup is fantastic, I’m a self confessed hifi geek and feeding Lossless Tidal hifi into the ML system sounds incredible. I’m going to play about with master quality files to really stretch its legs. The quietness of the cabin also helps the audio playback. Quality - everything feels really well screwed together, if feels a high quality product. Size - it’s a big car at nearly 5metres Long and the interior space is huge. You can stretch the front seats right back and there will still be ample room in the back. But it doesn’t feel like a large car to drive, I think this is a combination of a relatively low curb weight (1750kg?) and good front visibility. Exclusivity - it’s a little thing, but the number of ES’s sold will be tiny in the UK. You feel like Toyota have spent billions of dollars developing a car just for you. I think the chances of seeing another car on the road this year are very small. It’s nice to drive something a little different. Details - lots of nice little touches. keyless entry working on the back door handles as well as front. it’s a small thing but when you are parked in a car park it means you don’t have to squeeze your way to the front handle. Front radar is hidden behind the Lexus logo,so no unslightly black plastic square in the grille. If you have the sun blind up and reverse the car, it automatically lowers. It has a G meter! The Takumi pack includes a credit car key, pop it in you wallet and you don’t need your keys. Heads up display is massive and contains all sort of information such as audio track name, it will also just flash up with a massive red ‘BRAKE’ sign if it thinks you are going to hit the car in front....the front internal lights are touch sensitive. the auto function for the heated wheel and seats works really well. Adaptive led headlights are fantastic, they also include cornering lights. When you turn them on they go through some sort of lighting sequence, Again abit bling but nice. The front indicators are sequential led, again abit bling (but nice). If you get too close to the car in front in slowing traffic, you can temporarily mute the parking sensor with the ok button on the steering wheel. THE BAD Seats - although very supportive and look good, they are synthetic in the FSport. They really should be leather. The leather trim on the dash, wheel and gear selector is good quality but it’s a big omission for the rest of the cabin to be synthetic but I did know about this beforehand. No vented option on seats, this was great in my IS. Front wheel drive - it’s a very good set up but with the UK roads, when you hit a bad pothole it will loose traction and the TC will light . A really bad surface will leave the front trying to find grip and you will get a sideways movement on the front end. It’s a typical FWD trait, RWD is a more composed setup for poor road surfaces. Cabin - there are a few cheaper plastics on the bottom of the door trims, it’s a typical Toyota setup which is fine. However, the areas around the base of the centre console should be better quality materials. Exterior chrome. The chrome detailing to the front and back is smoked on the FSport. The sides of the car has unsmoked chrome. It’s a little thing, but that is just odd!! Rear privacy glass. It’s too dark, it’s basically black. Boot - Width and depth is good but the sloping rear profile robs it of height, it’s adequate size but not brilliant. infotainment - the 12inch screen is great, no problem using the trackpad, it actually works very well. The system feels under-utilised. There is an App Store but no apps? No CarPlay, only miracast? No idea what this is but not supported by Apple. 80% of it is good, it just feels like the last 20% is unfinished. cooling fan - the battery pack under the back seats has a cooling port at low level on the drivers side. I’m not sure if it’s on at all times but I parked up the other day and you can actually hear the fan working behind you. My impression of the first 1000 miles. In general, I’m a very happy customer.

  12. Not 100% sure ....I had already ticked the Notification option ,but there was nothing to indicate it was successful......it might have been the fact I hadn’t actually received a text message whilst in the car.... and I hadn’t tried to text myself....what numpty I am🤪🤪🤪

  13. Make sure headlights are off and not on automatic. Switch ignition on single press. Press and hold menu button. Turn lights on-off 3 times. (only first position lights). Release Menu button and you will see the full diagnostics. Give it a good 20 secs to complete the initial testing. Quickest way out is just turn the ignition off.

  15. Maybe not IMHO. The OBD socket has power to it permanently - those solar panel trickle chargers that plug into it wouldn't work otherwise. Better choice would be the Cig lighter or IGN I think.

  16. I have always changed the s/plugs on my cars which has mostly been a doddle. However, this looks a major job on an RX450h and I am not sure I want to do this on my RX450h. Have a look at this vid and see whether you will tackle it.

  19. Some lexus parts such as the hood pop ups are extortionate. However some are not too bad. I used my company debit card to buy my bumper and got 10% trade discount. It was delivered for less than 300 including vat. Granted it wasn't for f sport

  20. by "self levelling" they mean air suspension, if you've got it you will know, there are no springs visible and there is an adjustment switch low down next to the front door. If you have air suspension then good luck getting a towbar as only the Westfalia detachable bar will fit your model,(this is what Lexus fit) and there are none in the country at the moment. I'm trying to get one for mine from PF Jones but due to a merger or something between Witter and Westfalia there are none available.

  21. Hi guys & girls, Finally got around to installing the VLINE2 this weekend. Bagged it 2nd hand from fellow member Graham Webster (if he is here many thanks indeed, smooth transaction with an honest member). Install was easy and I would recommend having a stab yourself if you are competent around your motor etc. I am a bit of a perfectionist so wanted all cables neatly tucked away, tied up no unnecessary slack etc etc. Removed the stereo as required but also decided to remove the glove box too to get better access to the roof of it where I decided to route all of the cables. Initially a bit scary as you will see from the pictures but worth the effort when it's all done and tucked away invisible. Removing the stereo is very easy, plenty of YouTube videos to help you with that. Glove box comes out with 5 black screws, 3 across the top of inside the lid, and two on each bottom corner just behind the air bag trim by the passengers knees. I actually ended up removing the passenger knee air back bracket as the bottom of the glove box is popped into it and I couldn't see a way of releasing it without risking a breakage. Was a lot easier to put it all back in place that way too. Remember to disconnect the battery before doing all of this as you are playing around with air bags!! If you feel inside the roof of your glove box you will feel it has a ledge in it, and the roof is slightly lower on the stereo side of the glove box. I cut a hole in vertical part of this ledge (which is about 25mm) so that the GROM cables coming in from the stereo pop straight through from that direction. Also, with the unit placed on top of the little plastic shelf inside the glove box the cables are invisible to a passenger when looking into the glove box from the passenger seat. I took up all of the slack on the video and power cables and left them to rest on top of the glove box roof with only enough to reach the unit coming through. GPS and Mic enter the same hole but from the other direction first. I took those up to the passenger A pillar via the corner air vent which you can see removed in the pics. The GPS sits nicely in the corner of the dash and the mic cable i took all the way up the A pillar, along the front edge of the roof liner, over to the top of the drivers A pillar where it is mounted. I did want to put it somewhere near the dome light in the centre but couldn't figure out how to fix it in place without cutting or drilling etc - which I didn't want to do in case I remove the GROM before selling the car. Unit booted up first time. Be sure to boot it up before you put all your trim and dash back in case something is wrong. I installed the new firmware via the SD Card so am now running 8.1. Though I cant comment on its performance vs 5.1 as I didn't even look through the unit before doing the upgrade. Was easy to do though, just gotta be careful with the SD card as I initially lost mine inside the unit and had to unscrew the metal casing to retrieve it. Oops. Anyways, so far I am really pleased with it. Got Apple CarPlay working too which is mainly what I bought it for but also impressed with the Google Apps available to use on VLINE itself. I plan to have a right good play with it both driving and now, also going to get a new launcher as I think there are much better ones available then the GROM stock launcher. Couple of initial observations however - When I test called my wife, she said that she could hear whatever she said in echo which doesnt happen when we talk via the Lexus OEM phone. Anyone else experience this? Can anything be done in the settings maybe? Turn the mic down or something? 2nd, the video posted above shows the widget shortcuts on the right hand side of the screen....I have fully updated my unit and it's still on the left. Any ideas? Very happy to help anyone that wants support with their install and those of you that contacted me about borrowing the upgrade for 8.1, please DM me and we can arrange you coming to my house. It only takes about 15 mins max. I dont ask for anything in return, but if you do drive and ISF, I'd quite like a quick go round the the block please 😄 Cheers, Bill

  22. I found on Ebay a reversing camera "to fit on the rear of my caravan", and clip on internal mirror with video transmitter, and receiver for around £35 complete. The video internal mirror can be set with transposed picture to give the same perspective as an ordinary rear view mirror. This gives extremely good rear vision, and only require a 12 volt supply to the camera, and the internal mirror making installation very easy. If the camera is mounted near the off side rear corner of the van cars can be seen overtaking, and appear in the standard mirrors without a blind spot. The camera works well at night having it's own infrared illumination. The camera, and transmitter uses very little current, and can be powered by a separate 12 volt battery "such as a jumper pack" if required to save extra wiring to the caravan. The mirror has the capability to take two cameras "one at a time" that can be switched from the mirror or a remote control supplied with the kit. John.

  23. Hi Peter, I have towed with a 400h and now with a 450h. When I had the 400h I used the Milenco Aero (teardrop shaped) mirrors and found them to be quite satisfactory. I now use the Milenco Grand Aero mirrors and these are even better giving a much wider view. Both fitted without any problems but I did have to have them secured to the bottom of the mirror casing to avoid the mirror fouling the clips when I select reverse. The Aero mirrors can be had for around £50 and the Grand Aero for around £80. Hope this helps Bri

  24. I've only had mine for about 3 months, but so far it has had zero issues dealing with life on a dirt road on a mountain, even with plenty of snow. It feels ridiculously robust overall.

  25. I'm not overly worried that my 15 year old RX is going to be stolen. It got security built in, has ultrasonic sensors and doesn't have the advanced keyless entry/start keys. Old skool technology wins! One thing in Lexus's favour is they aren't as prone to theft and parting out/shipping abroad like top end German cars, LandRovers and Land Cruisers. Plus on mine the scabby wheels and the smell of oil from the leaking cam cover gaskets would put most thieves off. :-D
