  1. After much research, I’ve found that the air con pipe can be replaced without removing the tank. I took the car to Aircon Direct in Northfleet Kent, for an initial assessment. After putting the dye through, the leak was found in the usual place behind the fuel tank, the compressor and condenser and associated pipework all checked out ok.They charged £20. Mark said he could replace the faulty pipe with a rubber hose, which would last as long as the car. The job would take about 3 hours. I returned 2 weeks later, and the job was finished in the time stated. Mark showed me the offending part which was barely a metre long. The price was £270 all in, a bargain especially since I was quoted various prices up to £2k elsewhere. I can thoroughly recommend this firm, they are courteous and helpful and explained everything. http://www.ac4cars.co.uk/

  2. Nice one Jimmy, given the known problems with this I feel there may be more business coming their way at that price compared with the alternatives.

  6. Please be aware, Sarah, that the 400h is NOT a four wheel drive like the RX 300. It will not get you through snow by all accounts......... however if you change the tyres for seasonal ones you should be OK. Others will advise but I think Michelin Cross Climate tyres have been mentioned. Fortunately we get very little snow down here in the deep south!

  11. If it is not a short circuit on speaker wires, try resetting navigation keeping the switch (volume knob) pressed for some seconds; it should reset navigation system.

  12. If it was OK before they fitted the battery and it's not now, then that points to something that needs resetting post battery change. Lexus techs should be familiar with all the resetting procedures and they should have checked that everything works before returning the car. I'd go back to them and resist any requests for extra money. It would help to first make the checks suggested in the previous post though.

  13. Had they (or I) replaced the motor then the issue would have been sorted, but as you say it was sorted for no cost at all [emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  17. Thanks everyone, all I can say is read all you can on the subject, and then you will know a real aircon specialist when you meet them. unfortunately, there are too many out there that just do quick gas ups. The only other place that might be a possibility for those further north is bee-cool-aircon.co.uk . I had bookmarked them for a visit , but found aircon direct closer to home. I can’t vouch for them, but may be worth a call.

  18. Problem solved. I connected the laptop with the techstream software and found code P0A0D in the hybrid ECU, googled and found the code relates to a safety device being operated. When I found one of those devices was the emergency battery pack disconnect in the 'boot' well I went out to take a look and found that it was not locked, it only moved about 3-4 mm but obviously that was enough for the pins on the interlock not to make. Connected the laptop and cleared the code, hey presto all OK. What I think I did was catch the switch with the tray that sits in the boot,I had to lift it up to get my hand down into the well to pick up the screwed bar for the battery strap and the back lip of the tray must have just caught it. Cheers Kev

  20. N18RKS Thanks for taking the time to reply and glad to hear you have your car fixed. I did enquire with my insurance but they would not touch it without the screen had been damaged. The windscreen specialist up the road said there is a 95% chance he can get the screen out without damage but if it cracked the screen would cost £550 plus fitting plus Vat so best part of a £1000 I reckon. Well your experience tells me that is what I have to do in the coming weeks so thanks for your advice. So much for Lexus saying it just doesn't happen on Lexus cars I have read all sorts of reports on this model and others of leaks, why can't they be honest and advise like yourself even though it might bruise their reputation just a little it would still be no where near other makes woeful stories. Well I had better book into the windscreen place and hope for the best gulp. Neilj

  21. Have you actually tried measuring the distances, perhaps with a non-scratching cloth roll-up tape of the type used by dressmakers, in order to objectively prove or disprove?

  22. If you go into the climate settings and press the three dots, it opens up a screen to turn the heater window element on at the bottom of the screen, this aids by heating up the wipers at the bottom of the screen. I do this and hit the front screen button. It’s never going to be as quick as my last car with the heated elements in the entire front windscreen, but the heated element does actually help the wipers clear frost off the window a little bit Worth a try!

  23. Hi NeilJ the good news is yes, i did manage to get it fixed - a bit unorthodox in how but lets just say i needed a new windscreen. The replacement was a like for like with the heating element and tinted visor with Lexus printed on it so assume it was an OEM part, since replacement i have had no return of a wet interior pillar. - you may get away with just removal and resealing but good chance it will break on removal -..................... luckily i had a large rock thrown up from following a lorry so needed a replacement that cost me my XS (£70 i think)

  25. It used to be full of TV sets when we had the big and bulky tube models but those days have long gone, just junk down both sides now with a gap where the driver’s door opens. Just need to pop out and check the thermostat in there...I don’t want the Queen to get cold or damp 😀

  26. Completely agree, but even if the map was up to date it is still an inferior solution to a modern smartphone. I really dont understand why they perservere with their rubbish systems in this day and age (not just Toyota, but all mainstream cars VW, Ford etc). I'd be happy with a decent sized screen with Android Auto or CarPlay compatibility.

  28. We all shouldn't have to rely on alternative items and various sources to replace something that should be maintained and updated by a company such as Lexus. It is a main part of the vehicle and should be maintained with a very small update cost, not these silly prices for something you have already paid for. I have already got a phone holder etc that I use for my iphone, so I am aware of the various other methods to use. Maybe it's time that companies such as Lexus stop putting satnavs into their vehicles as standard. If you have an "Extended Warranty" and you took it out prior to the vehicle being Ten years old, they should, in my opinion Honour the Update

  30. <Thread drift alert> Talking of jolly school day japes, I recall walking across the car park on my first day at senior school, and seeing "Reserved H/mster" in large letters on the Headmaster's parking space. This sight sowed a seed in my mind which would stay there for a long time. Seven years in fact. On the night of the last A Level exam, I was celebrating with a group of friends at the local hostelry. I mentioned that for years I had wanted to turn the "/" into an "A" and my friends all thought it was a wizard idea. When one of my chums offered to pick up a paintbrush and some white gloss paint on the way, the plan was swiftly formed. We arrived at school just after last orders, and armed with the necessary equipment, I duly applied the two strokes of paint which I had been itching to add for all that time. As I stood back to admire my handiwork, another chum said "let's borrow the brush" and proceeded to add a "P" in front of the "R" of "Reserved". This was, we all agreed, a stroke, or two strokes to be precise, of genius. Off we scuttled to our various homes and nothing more was heard until the following Christmas when we met up with a few of our old teachers at the aforementioned hostelry. After several medicinal ales, the tale was recounted as the fear of any retribution was long since gone. One of the teachers was grateful for the explanation as he had wondered why the caretaker was busily scrubbing away at the head's parking space when he arrived the morning after our nocturnal mission. I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to Mr Pitney, or to his memory should he be no longer with us, for the high-jinks of myself and my chums. It was a very long time ago (1986) and I hope all is forgiven now.

  31. Thanks Herbie, It is very satisfying when you get a result like that, especially when a new motor is £270 +vat from Lexus and used ones are £100 on eBay. The nylon wheels have given off a bit of material over the last 175,000 miles and this was just starting to gum up the internal electrical connections and cause them to break the flow of current. My understanding of electrics is basic hence my initial questions. Thanks to everyone who helped with ideas [emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  33. Try Lexus Parts Direct. They're generally very helpful if you phone or email to confirm the battery for your car. The following might be what you need, currently £112 for an IS300h. https://lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/parts/lexus-is/lexus-is-phase-iii-2013-present/lexus-is-3-engine-service-kits/lexus-is-phase-3-12v-starter-battery/ They also have a Black Friday offer of free delivery at the moment. Your profile says you have an RCF. The battery for this is £79. Part number 28800-YZZZH

  37. Just for info. I think I have found a solution to my original problem (phone would not connect automatically when I got into the car, I would need to turn blue tooth off and then on again before it would connect) I originally connected my phone via the car, asking the car to find my phone, the problem was always there, I later tried connecting the car to the phone, using the phone to find my car. Now all ok, phone is always there when I get in and start the car. The phone is a Samsung galaxy S7 edge in case anyone else has this problem.

  39. Not sure where but I read somewhere that the IS/RC will be discontinued. So, what about your next car? I am thinking about an Audi Q4 Etron?
    1 point
  40. Yeah... if you really want to find decent example you kind of need to look nationally. My advise would be to focus on what you need from the car, not where it is based... once you find what you need then you can start looking to your options actually getting it to Scotland. This is not BMW where you can expect 10 to be local to you, Lexus only sold few hundred cars nationally (1300 total)! BMW sold more 430i just in black with red interior alone 😁
