  1. The next few years promise some exciting new models which will challenge more premium brands. and or models. Nissan tried to do this with their Infiniti arm but are apparently pulling out of the UK (if they have not yet stopped selling Infiniti models here). However, Hyundai are planning an assault on the European market with their high end 'Genesis' arm and are said to be preparing cars specially suitable for the UK market. There are two models that will compete with the RX and NX suv's, the GV80 and the GV70. I have not been able to find the specs for the UK cars but I did read there is a hybrid so this might be included. The fist link is a recent early road test on the GV70 with flashes of the GV80 in Korea, which will doubtless be the versions for the USA and the second shows interior of the GV70.. How this works out will be interesting as Hyundai have come on enormously in recent years.

  2. Last Saturday I purchased an Is300h. My previous car was a very much loved and cherished 20 year old celica who I was very sad to see go. But new baby was proving to be a pain in the bum to lug in and out of 3 door (didnt have that problem with my son 7 years ago). So Lexus was the only way I wanted to go, been looking out for one and a 2013 luxury model came up at decent price with low miles. Enjoying the ride/ handling so far... driving an auto was a strange adjustment. But loving the solid drive so far. Only annoying points I have so far... typical saloon and no rear wiper (why?!) Would like a digital clock somewhere i can quickly glance at! Anyway hiya, sure I will go back to lurking. Vicky

  3. I'd bypass the heater matrix and run it for a day before anything else. I've seen a few dealers miss the obvious and pull the head only to be no better off. And once again don't put additive in the coolant.

  4. Looks good! Shame about the spillage in the boot though 🙁

  5. Sorry for the delay, Previously the MOT charge was included in the service contract I took out and not in the warranty, although there was a clause in the warranty stating it covers MOT failure repair. I was told by Lexus the new warranty now includes the MOT test which I suppose is an obvious addition if they are insuring MOT failure repairs. Of course the MOT fee will no longer be added to the service contract price when renewed. If you have a service contract do not forget you are entitled to a parts and labour discount on anything needed outside the service contract or warranty items, tyres, battery, mats etc. I think it is 15% or could be 10% it's written in somewhere. I have found it isn't offered if you don't ask for it though.

  6. Premier or F Sport for AVS 😉 Although, I don't actually remember the last time I used the Sport mode as most of my driving is in town or motorway when it wouldn't make much difference. Still nice to have the option though. I know it is not strictly a like for like comparison, but one thing the GS has over the IS is the ability to have it with the 3.5 V6 engine. I get what I believe is a reasonable 37-40mpg out of mine and there is simply no comparison performance wise.

  7. when you have a new set of tyres on your car the speedo will appear to under read as your tyres are nearing their minimum tyre tread depth they will indicated a faster speed a new tyre will travel further on one rotation of the tyre hence under reading on the speedo

  8. Hi, as requested. Here are two pics. It is day and visibility is superb. Durring the night or when in the tunnel the device dims itself. What is very good is that you can calibrate HUD device to the actual real speed you are driving. For the reference I used my GPS Sygic which I have on my Samsung mobile phone. I recognized that my Lexus is showing speed about 8km/h wrong when driving 100km/h. I need to Drive 108km/h that I achieve real 100km/h, I'm quite surprise for such big tolerance as my previous Peugeout were almost totally correct in showing my speed. Would like to hear any comments in regards to that. Anyway now I calibrated my C100 HUD and it is showing the same real speed as it is on GPS. best wishes, Davor.

  10. Quick update on the clutch. I've got the Exedy kit in, kept the original DMF with 145k miles as it's still good to be used. I don't think you need to change the flywheel unless you have flywheel issues or can justify spending £500+ on a new one just for peace of mind. The car works as it should now, clutch feels very good so I'm happy overall.

  11. Quick update on the clutch. So the clutch has been changed now, got the Exedy kit in it, but kept the original DMF as it's still okay for a while. Couldn't justify spending £500+ on a new flywheel at this time of the year, but the good news is everything works as it should. I'm just going to bed it in over the next 250 miles or so. Moral of the story, if you have no flywheel issues, you don't necessarily have to change it. Garages will advise you to do it but they just want to make extra ££ on you even if the stock flywheel is still usable. The car has covered 145k miles on a stock clutch & flywheel, so I'm chuffed.

  12. Just to follow up on this. I did see both F Sport Premium Plus and Takumi cars and evil racer was right. I couldn't tell any difference between the 8 speakers system and mark levinson system. I only got to test drive the Takumi which was pretty quiet and comfortable. Hoping to test drive the F Sport soon and see how the driving modes feel. My only other option is the Audi Q3 35 or 40 petrol but they're a bit too expensive and less fuel efficient.

  13. More comfortable to have in a pocket - this is the only reason I want to do it.

  15. its the magnatec 5W30 C3 i usually do about 1000miles per month but not so much these days and change every 10,000 miles.. the Mobil ESP and Castrol Edges's I feel are overkill for these type of engines. maybe if you own a GTR or IS-F then might make sense to stretch for those type of oil's. ive used the Castrol 5w30 c3 in my previous Lexus's and Accord 2.4 and noticed the same quietness and less oil burning compared to the equivalent Mobil, Shell 5w 30 oils i tried. worth giving it a try as it more than meets and exceeds oil requirements for the GS/IS engines. https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-69393-castrol-magnatec-stop-start-5w-30-c3-fully-synthetic-car-engine-oil.aspx?VariantID=91992

  16. With Hyundai (and Kia) having acquired Audi’s head of design and BMW’s head of M it is to be expected that they’d be looking to roll out upmarket SUVs with some fizz. Hyundai’s N models also show performance promise whilst their electric and hybrid models appear to be doing well so they are definitely going places.

  17. Welcome to the Wonderful World of Lexus! Talking of filing cabinets, I transported one of these from Runcorn to Dewsbury and it did the leather in my IS250 no favours at all: It's an HP Plotter and some of you might know how big they are and the kind of challenge it posed getting it in the car...

  21. Probably trying to get the rep driver? Quite a few drivers don't like auto. I do after driving my first 15 years ago, a Volvo 240 GLT AW70/71 The engine and gearbox were the 220d it's biggest issue. I loved the build quality, comfort, safety, even pass/driver knee airbags. Standard radio was fine too. Mine had the light cloth interior. I should of gone for the IS250 SEL. James.

  22. a quick search on Opie oils showed reasonably prices 6 litre oils ranging form £30 and above.. i personally use Castrol 5w 30 C3 as i found engine does not burn oil as quick as Shell 5w30 or Mobil 5w30.. castrol also makes the engine more quieter i found https://www.opieoils.co.uk/f/2354/8971/2006/engine-oil.aspx

  23. Was it a Lexus dealer and was the sales person prepared to take your car in part ex but at lower price. I would have thought that any Lexus dealer hearing a suspicions noise would have got one of the Tecs to look at it for an opinion.

  24. I was originally looking for an is300h to replace my is 220d. Took a gs300h for a test drive after trying the is300h. Bought the GS! Is so much better in many ways except maybe 'sporty driving'. The gs is not a barge by any means. It is a comfortable luxury saloon. However, if you can get a premier with adaptive suspension it is certainly no slouch on winding b roads. My boy racer days are well and truly over and I appreciate comfort and relaxation whilst driving which the GS gives in spades. It all depends on what you want out of your driving experience as to whether the is or gs is preferable. The GS is more of a downgraded LS wheares the IS is an upgraded CT!

  25. carry on .... yes, I carried on with mine on my Mk1 for very many years ....... s'pose the issue is that an owner has to very rarely open the bonnet in between taking the car to the garage for service and MOT etc ....................... and the rarity of that seems to loosen the brain cells into thinking " why bother ", the piece of wood will do Maybe an oak or elm stave could be OEM and have been issued by Lexus from new Malc

  29. 🙂 https://twitter.com/fietsprofessor/status/1335152136037015554?s=20 We clearly see the world through very different lens, enjoy the holidays, I'll be out on my bike much more than the car. The British countryside really is a beautiful place, and I certainly really like just stopping to take in the view. Given all the other stuff going on in the world at present, its 5 minutes of bliss before getting back into reality :). Oh and I agree with you about buying new cars, am done with them unless am forced to get another one!! Cycling however, it really is what I love beyond all other modes of transportation.
