  1. All they need to do is to run the camera wire down the opposite side to the DAB antenna wire. If they won't/can't do that then put a ferrite bead on the camera wire.

  3. I've done this in the past many times, the last one was a misfire when warm on my bmw e30. I changed gaskets, seals, afm, tps etc trying to chase. Turns out it was a dodgy set of NGK plugs that I had just recently fitted. I consistently ignored them because I knew they were new, and didn't think that they could be faulty. I only solved the issue after checking everything else then finding that Bosch plugs were oem in the manual, once I switched to a new set of Bosch plugs the problem was fixed. Ever since then I'll throw time and money at the basics then go into deeper fault finding. Really happy for you that it was a simple fix in the end. Leaves more time for all the other things life throws at us! 🙂

  4. I would get the PPE ones just cant afford them. I can get a used set of RCF ones for under £1k from an RCF that had under 20k miles on it. I will give this a shot. I just hope im making a good decision as its the same as just replacing the stock one with new. Thanks for your help.

  5. Another one waiting here too, but size will be the decider for me. Mainly how it feels inside rather than legroom and boot space, but more how close I feel to the passenger. I love the interior, but if the LBX doesn’t feel right we will wait for the second generation UX in 2-3 years.

  6. Interesting - I bought my 2 year old IS 300h from Lexus Reading and I've been using them for the last 8 years for all servicing, MoTs and even tyres along with a couple of repairs and one body repair. I haven't had any reason to complain - in fact they have gone above and beyond a number of times. My wife bought a new Toyota from Toyota Reading (same company located next door) and again used for all her servicing needs and no problems with them for the past 4 years also. I've had poor service in the past (not from Lexus) and for a BMW went through many dealers before I found a good one so I don't put up with any BS. Unfortunately, I think it does come down to the people delivering the service and their attitude and how willing they are to listen and resolve issues as and when they arise and not to treat customers as a problem or with contempt.

  7. 30s apparently: When the shift lever is in D, the driver can momentarily select a desired shift range by operating the shift paddle switch (transmission shift switch assembly). Automatic shifting will be reinstated under the following conditions: - The vehicle has stopped. - The driver continues to push the shift paddle switch (transmission shift switch assembly) in the "+" direction longer than 1 second. - The driver continues to depress the accelerator pedal longer than 30 seconds.

  8. Thanks and yes, a few quid on bulbs when I order them tomorrow. Not sure about the cluster light fittings themselves so will swop them over. I spent the last few days printing off circuit diagrams and trying to work out what could be the cause. A classic case of thinking it’s something complicated when in reality it’s not, can’t see the wood for the trees. I really should know better but when it’s yourself in the ‘situation’, logic and clear thinking sometimes goes out the window depending on what has happened. I had established yesterday that 12 volts was being supplied to the stop lights, the grounding/earth was ok because the tail lights worked. In hindsight the cause was obvious yesterday but the penny didn’t drop until this afternoon. And just imagine if I had got an auto electrician or Lexus to have a look, what a chump I would have looked🤣

  9. Solved The Problem At the third attempt I managed to sort it out. It was a silly mistake. Because the new pads were black, I had got the 'black anti squeal shims' mixed up. On one side I had put a stainless shim on each pad, but I had put two black shims on one side and none on the other. Oops! All quiet now. John N

  10. My 2014 IS300h is SE spec, as a result I have half leather, manual, non heating seats. I have located a complete interior that would be a nice upgrade, however its electric, cooled and heated seats. Sometime ago I asked the question about cars being prewired for things that the car may not have been fitted with, the general consensus was that Lexus didn't do this as it wasn't cost effective. Today I was doing some work on the centre console and I noticed there was a 6 pin multi-plug that was taped up and is not being used, so I got the multimeter out, there was power to one of the terminals. Looking at Lexus-tech this appears to be connector K99, the multi-plug connector for the heated seat switches. Looking at the connector blocks that are listed K99 is the 6 pin connector listed here There are 30A fuses in the power seat fuse locations and 15a fuse in the heated seat locations. Next job will be to take out the seats, lift the carpet and see if there are any multi-plugs attached to the wiring loom in the area of the seats my current seats have 3 multi-plugs on them, does anyone know how many connectors an electric operated and heated seat will have?

  11. Once I got past the ridiculous cost of rubber mats I realised that the hot rubber extrusion machine that spat them out must have been expensive to produce. Not every ES customer would want them and are happier with the very nice carpet set you get but when you look close at these winter mats the weight and quality is there to see. Not sure why you can't buy rear mats as well. Pity then I gave the first set of these I had away after trading in the ES. I gave them to a good friend who drives a Toyota Camry which shares the same floor pan. At least I didn't pay for them, part of a protection pack the dealer fitted as part of the deal back in 2019.

  13. From what I can tell both option 1 and option 2 are Executive grade with the optional premium navigation (with the larger 10" screen). They both should have electric seats. Therefore option 1 is the better deal. I cannot say if it is a reasonable price as I don't know the Swedish market but it is certainly better than option 2. You should be able to get the infotainment system upgraded to support CarPlay/AA on a facelift NX (late 2017 onwards) - Dealers in the UK charge about £100 for the software upgrade. Here is the generic European brochure for the NX in 2018. Each country might have slightly different specifications so this might not be 100% accurate but it gives you an idea of what each grade should come with as standard. nx-brochure.pdf

  15. I think they are using Panasonic prismatic cells. In theory they could be changed but it would depend on how the seal the battery pack casing. Toyota/Lexus hybrid battery packs are quite easy to disassemble but they are much simpler air cooled packs. Dealers certainly won't be trying to replace a battery cell, any warranty work would require a new (or refurbished) battery pack. Manufacturers are using the 70% figure as it is highly unlikely a battery would ever degrade that much unless there was a hard failure of a cell. But they don't have to provide a new pack, it could be reconditioned with a degradation level that would be expected of the age of the vehicle. The fact that the Leaf with a battery pack of quite a poor design by modern standards (being air cooled without proper battery management) has minimal degradation kind of proves the press has made degradation out to be a much bigger thing than it actually is.

  16. In my case the bank did call me as I had missed a credit card payment, but they would not tell me what it was for, and the number they told me to ring was different to the number presenting on my phone. So I declined to discuss anything as it smelt like a scam I then rang my bank and they said they were not trying to get hold of me, then the 'scammer' called back. Anyway after much faffing about (2 hours of my time wasted) it turned out it was all genuine, and the fact that I had missed a payment for the first time in 15 years seemed to bother them. I work in IT & Telecoms and so fairly aware of the tricks of the scammers, so am 110% 'alert', but my bank proved to be the idiotic exception.

  18. Hi Steve, yes, wherever you are, I'm a long way away! I've had perhaps 6 people who've found out where I am, and have immediately lost interest! I do seem to have sold the car, twice. Someone 180 miles away says he'll come and buy it on Saturday, and if he doesn't someone else will just buy it without seeing it, and will send a lorry to pick it up. The car does 31-33 mpg on motorways travelling at the speed limit, and at bit more than that travelling on free-flowing 60mph roads. It manages about 24 on child-to-school type journeys. These figures are with the ect set to 'Power'. I never use the 'Normal' setting. : o )

  19. I decided to tackle my badly applied paint on the rear bumper, based on the theory that any subsequent rectification would be easier. I started off dry sanding with 500 grit, followed by wet sanding with 1000, 2000 and 3000 grit. Then I used a DA machine to apply cutting compound and then polish. I haven't got the deep shine I was hoping for, but it's certainly a lot better than when I started. I must admit I was half expecting I would need to repaint the bumper. It would certainly have been quicker than the four hours I spent flatting and polishing, and that's just the top! The start of the process: Finished, hopefully!:

  20. By the punctuation I read that as LRA would pay to transport the car after an accident to the nearest Lexus centre but anything else would be for the insurer at the insurer's cost? In my case they took my car after the accident to the nearest Lexus centre which happened to be my local dealer at no additional cost to me.

  22. Hopefully it will work itself out over the next year or so. With increases being so high it will force people to shop around and switch, where previously they swallowed a small increase because they couldn't be bothered to change. If insurance companies lose enough business due to the ridiculous price hikes, then they'll be wary of doing it again. Some price rises are inevitable, but many companies/indutries seem to be taking advantage of people's willingness to accept increases and are simply profiteering from it. Whether it's car insuraance, mobile phone bills, cable tv etc, people should challenge every increase and either ask for a reduction or switch.

  23. Not noticed a shake but did have opposite issue with HUD slowing dropping to bottom so that bottom of display not visible had to adjust every 3 to 4 days. Did not report as I would give the car a few weeks to “bed in” and after about 3 weeks it seemed to have settled and no issue for the last few weeks.

  24. I agree wholeheartedly. Take car insurance for example (a hot topic at the moment, on this forum and elsewhere). Most people, when deciding who to insure with, value the cost of the policy over any other aspect of the decision-making process and hope that they never need to discover how well (or not) the cheapest insurer deals with a claim further down the line. I can understand why people do this, especially now for example when times are hard (and there are obviously a fair few people who don't have to make a claim and therefore can justify going with the cheapest quote each year), but I've always believed that the true value of an insurance policy is only revealed when you need to claim on it. However, like you say Bill, this is assuming the differential of service over price isn't too great. As Mark Twain said - "You pays your money and you takes your choice."

  26. Yes, maybe like you I am someone who will do their own independent research and then know where I stand (which I apply to many other aspects of my life) and so often I don't have so much push back as they know I won't take any BS. If I have an issue, once I've given the people in an organisation a chance to sort it out, if they don't then I generally escalate it to someone who can, no matter how high up I have to go. However, I know many people will not take a stand and organisations take advantage of that, pushing them from pillar to post to delay making any decision.

  27. The interval between services is a reccomendation by the manufacturer based on normal usage and your discription of the last four years is anything but normal. With regard to the engine oil it will detiorate over time and especially doing short journeys as it never gets to operating temparature and is diluted with fuel from cold start ups, this is one of the reasons I change my oil every two years at six thousand mile intervals. The brakes need servicing even though they are not wearing down as detritus and brake dust collect around the moving parts and corrode them, the fluid should be completely changed. The power steering fluid should be changed every three years pump some out pump some in to protect the seals. The diff oil will probably need a change also at 80k . Just because the car it being lightly used does not mean it is ok to miss service intervals it will show up when normal use is resumed. I hasten to add this is not a critical review of your post more a warning to others that the service schedule is not written in stone but a guide that needs logical interpretation.

  28. You are absolutely right with what you have said there about the inconsistent practices - its ridiculous. Also because of this it seems you have to question, check everything that they say and provide evidence to support your case which is so irritating. My partners 4 year old Yaris Hybrid had its service and I had told them that there was a fault with the front parking sensors in that they get triggered at very random points when driving by a leaf blowing past, exhaust vapour from a car a mile away, spec of dust drifting across (ok a bit of an exageration :)) but makes my partner edgy when the car suddenly warns of an obstruction ahead that isn't there. They are ridiculously sensitive and trigger for no reason at all. They said no fault found and all ok, I went outside with her to drive off and as soon as I started the car was warning me of proximity danger at front, I was still stationery and the object in front was the dealership building but it was at least 8m away. I went back inside they sent the service person out and he said oh yes that's not right but don't know what it could be and we haven't got any available appointments today so bring her back in future and we will keep her for a day / look at it again. When I got home I did some research myself through my work system and found that Toyota were very aware of this issue on the 2018 Yaris models and had implemented a free 'chip' change / fix completely rectified this but were not doing it as a recall and only if the customer complained about the issue and insisted it to be done. Toyota however had rectified it for 2019 models onwards. I PDF'd the information and emailed the dealer and they said they knew nothing about it at all but would order the chip and replace free of charge. Its a bit mad that its the customer who has to do the work to identify the fault to get it sorted especially with a company such as Toyota who seem to recall cars for the pretty much everything.

  29. Indicators the size of a gnats crotchet, this is my moan. Why do more and more car designers think that having a large LED array on the rear with blaring red lights is acceptable when the indicators are so small as to be naffing useless. I am not aware that the Highway code is about to change to say 'indicate if you can be bothered, but do not worry as your indicators will only be visible if the person behind is actually hanging off the bumper'. I know in theory you should be far enough away to anticipate, but more and more my old eyes have no clue as to what the modern EV or hybrid in front is thinking of doing. Apologies if this topic is already covered in this moan, but if it was, I suspect that back then the indicator was the size of 2 gnats crotchet (not one)

  31. Yes as you say it's surprising when you see such differing reviews from the same place. I had the opposite experience when I asked Lexus Reading to check/replace some things and they came back and said no reason to change them when I'd already said I was happy for them to be replaced. They also listened to me over another issue including offering a tech to go out with me to listen to the noise I was reporting and then sorted the issues without a problem. Like you though I've had similar experiences in other dealerships (not Lexus) where I was told things needing replacing when clearly they didn't. It's a shame the whole car industry (and associated industries) seems to have such inconsistent practices leaving customers always on their guard and feeling that they are about to get ripped off.

  33. That’s good they were fine with you, it is weird how things vary and seems to depend on who you get on the day. Unfortunately for me with Reading it started when I went with my partner to look at an IS250 they had for sale, my partner said that the way the receptionist was and how she spoke to us (looked down) forget it and spend your money elsewhere which is what I did. As an example the last (and only time in late 2022) I went there for a service as couldn’t get to Swindon (they are closed on Saturdays!). Needed a minor service they identified a small leak on Air conditioning condenser (ok), new nsf calliper required (ok as I was expecting / hoping that due to something not feeling right occasionally although two independents couldn’t see anything wrong). They also said I needed new front pads (30% left) and discs (heavily ridged) and new rear pads (25% left) I had new Lexus discs / pads less than 20,000 miles before and am known for being gentle on brakes / making them last a long time even on sports cars I’ve had in past. I challenged this as it is a thing that most if not all Reading dealers often say you need new pads and or discs when you don't, my friends with Aston’s, Range Rovers and Audis have experienced this also. the service person said well it’s clear you think know more than a Lexus technician, I didn’t bother answering that but what he didn’t know is that in my workplace every couple of months we get our cars up on the ramps and a Motorsport mechanic friend of mine checks underneath, pads, discs, tyres and a quick look for any potential leaks on suspension etc as a favour. the price for discs and pads seemed high and I wanted to get car checked over by another dealer, so I just had calliper done at c£410 and said leave the rest. I contacted Swindon branch and chatted to them and they were amazed the discs and pads needed doing as on prior service figures had 70-80% left on them, but they ordered in a set of pads and front discs, air condenser and a new calliper as I didn’t want one new one one side and the original on the other (I had full history of everything done to the car and it was still on the original callipers amazingly)! the upshot was that Swindon did the other sided calliper for £120 less than Reading, condenser £100 less and what a surprise they said why did I want my pads and discs replaced as they had a long time to go in fact my pads at front were c70% left on them and the slight ridges were negligible and my braking on the test centre rig was fully balanced and fully compliant. I showed them the info that Reading had given me on the service report sheets regarding the pad depths and they said they must of been looking at another car or should have gone to Specsavers 😂

  35. Well……………..fitted the spare light clusters and all ok so it was the bulbs after all. However, I checked the bulbs in the clusters in the car. One was indeed blown, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t blown when I checked last week but can’t be 100%. The other was a stop/tail bulb, didn’t fit properly in the light bulb fitting and didn’t work to begin with but was ok after a bit of tweaking. I swopped both the bulbs from the spare light cluster and all is good now but the bulb socket on one side isn’t 100% so will order a complete set of bulbs and fit them to be sure. After all that, it was just coincidence that the issue appeared just after I worked on the steering mechanism to grease it. I really couldn’t see how I had done anything or disturbed anything and it turned out I was right, no consolation but that’s life. I could guess at what happened but I don’t care, it’s sorted now and I can relax. Coincidence and thinking I had a bigger issue than I actually had caused all this. At least I know how the lighting circuits work now and prompted me to buy a Power Probe which will be handy in future. By the way, if the boot light bulb has blown or is disconnected the parking brake light will come on. That means the parking brake light ‘on’ can mean at least - parking brake still on - rear bulb gone - brake fluid low - boot light bulb gone or disconnected. Thanks to everyone for their input, it’s appreciated and all this may help someone else.

  37. Interesting development actually. Got a call from Lexus Twickenham and was told they need the car for a couple of days as Lexus GB are going to try a software re-install before attempting to replace the part. Personally, I think that is a better way to go if software reinstall can fix the issue. I am quite antsy about the idea of having a part that costs over 20% the purchase price replaced... in case it doesn't work reliably. Fingers crossed... --E

  39. I agree. Unfortunately, in todays world, businesses are faced with customers using any number of comparsion sites to buy on price. With the ever increasing need to reduce prices in order to achieve sales, then something has to give, and often that's customer service and after sales care. I will usually favour service over price, assuming the differential isn't too great, but many don't, and hope for the best. It's not difficult to provide excellent customer service, but a lot more challenging to get people to pay for it.

  40. It’s a shame the lighter headlining is more limited now – as I do feel as it makes the interior feel 'airier' than what it is. It can feel a bit 'confined' (certainly in the rear) with the black headlining like I have in the F-Sport – but I did opt for the red leather in mine to brighten it up. I'd have to see what the hazel would look like with black headlining to make a fairer judgement, but I'd imagine the contrast would be a bit too much.

  41. Now I have wrapped it it is not so slippery but not any thicker. Perhaps in the future I might invest in revised one. It’s a shame no one in the UK offers that service and I am surprised at the cost when you see how little they can cost compared to one for an old English sports car.

  42. Good luck with the MOT, Glyn, and thanks for the update. As I'm not a 'hands-on' motorist with any knowhow on DIY, I find the reports of other members of great interest. I must at some point have missed any explanation of such a low mileage on a 2004 car—that sounds like an excellent find! I've had a lot of different types of car over my 67 years of driving, and this car has made me realise what I've missed in not having a cabriolet. Unfortunately, ownership has coincided with a degree of health that limits my range, because I'd love to have owned this in the days when I toured in France and Germany. Take my advice and make the most of it while you're able! The old saying is right: "You regret the things you haven't done more than the things you have!"

  43. Hi all, Finally getting around to providing an update. 1. They reimbursed me for the damaged window shades (I provided a receipt for the replacement); and 2. They said they could not prove either way who accessed the boot and why they would've opened (and left opened) the windscreen washer fluid. They said we'd reached an impasse and there's nothing else they can do as no one in the workshop would have a reason to open the boot. I had correspondence with Lexus HQ throughout (who where very nice) and so left feedback in the satisfaction survey.

  44. I'll be buying a new hybrid just before they are banned unless a) fuel cell cars come forward at a sensible price b) BEV get significant reliable range and much lower charging time and reduce in price, and c) the EV infrastructure improves dramatically. I'm sure I can't be the only one thinking like this...

  45. I felt sick watching that, and I haven't even bought one yet. Absolute scum. I have posted this elsewhere but Lexus' inaction over this is inexcusable. I have posted this on another, similar posts but I have found that the only way, to obtain a serious response from large corporations, after failing through normal channels, is to bombard their Facebook page with questions and factual accounts of the problem. One example is an expensive, but noisy fridge I owned. After failing to be taken seriously, I took this approach and was contacted immediately. My year old fridge was taken away and replaced with a new one. It sounds as if theft of RX450s is now common enough that several owners bombarding Lexus UK Facebook page with their concerns, experiences and concerns about Lexus’s failure to resolve the issue is not something they would welcome. I have started the ball rolling and, as a potential purchaser, have expressed my concern on Lexus FB page.

  46. I’ve just read about another scam which this time involves the “card reader” given out by some banks to customers and used to confirm identities and payments. Apparently scammers are now sending these out to people then ringing a few days later pretending to be the bank and asking for confirmation of receipt of the reader. They then ask the customer/victim to put their card into the machine plus their PIN. Result is an empty account!

  47. It's soft indeed, we left the house this morning and a low flying cow had 'dropped' on my wife's 21 plate Yaris. I should have made the time and cleaned it there and then but sadly I didn't. There are now 4 or 5, 5cm areas that look like blisters on the paintwork. Not Auto-Glym or Mer can polish those away - I've tried!
