It's a long story, but the short version (for now) is that I've just bought this lovely LS400! It's a 1999 model with 137k on the clock. It was advertised on eBay recently and I went over to the Wirral today to view it. The gentleman selling it was brilliant and we agreed a price. Picking it up tomorrow and driving it back to south Cheshire.

The car will need a few bits doing but I'm very happy with the price paid and I'm looking forward to a bit of motoring luxury once again!

Here are some pictures taken from his ad:

Excellent. If I'd seen a black one when I was looking, I'd have been all over it like a rash.

Inside looks super clean, too. I was going to mention some marks on the carpet, but then I scrolled and saw the dots were on my screen :geek:

Very nice, had a 99 Mk4 myself, great car. Enjoy.

Thanks - I'm working my way up to your LS600!

Jonathan

Nice to see you back in the fold, tidy looking, as been already said but it looks cared for.

Good luck with the issues .

Thanks. The cam belt will be the first job to be done. After that, just cosmetic bits and pieces and I'll get some new tyres on her.

That's exactly the kind of thing I'd do! Must get some new specs.

Now I said I wouldn't go back to an LS400, however, if a black or dark blue one with light coloured leather came along, I could change my mind!

How about a rough-ish idea of cost? Always interesting to know what they're selling for.

looks great, gold front badge too ..... poser :whistling: ....... seriously, she looks really smart.

Don't forget the cambelt might be made of aramid fibre and last forever !!! ............. if the last one changed was a Lexus belt or indeed if it's original.

Good luck with it, well done .............. price paid and the niggles ? ( I'm just super nosey )

Very nice :)

Just a thought as you are buying it mid month does this mean the guy selling it loses the tax to the end of the month yet you will have to retax it from the beginning and do you have to tax it before you drive it home?

Thanks everyone.

Steve - the tax expired at the end of October so I will have to start it again from the beginning of November I guess.

In terms of other 'niggles', it is missing a front headlight washer, there are a couple of very minor scrapes on the bottom edges of the bumpers (nothing serious and nothing £150 wouldn't fix in a body shop), the cambelt needs changing, there is a very small bit of damage to the back of the driver's seat (tiny) and it will need new tyres shortly.

On the positives, the vast majority of the bodywork is beautiful and unmarked, no rust anywhere, MOT til May and everything works. Wing mirrors show no signs of fading, no lamination in the windscreen, no knocks or rattles that I could hear and a nice smooth drive. I will get Miles, my mechanic, to check it over tomorrow but it generally seems ok.

Also on the good news front, I got it for £1000 which I think is a good price for a 1999 model in good condition.

A very nice example Jonathan. Very pleased for you as I know that you have been searching.

I am on the Wirral but have not seen that one around.

Hope it gives you many long and happy years service.

Regards

John

I bought it from someone in the trade but the previous owner was an Irish gentleman who owned a pub in north Wales. It has 10 stamps from Lexus in the service book, most from Norwich, but the last two from Lexus Chester. Couple of independent stamps too.

Excellent result, amazing price.

Once the cam belt is done, then you can relax a little more, and with my Mk4 on 150K now, still no clonks or knocks. Just need to get the ATF sorted, which should be next week. Current ATF smells like when you leave well used hiking socks on a hot radiator, so a taking it to auto-box specialist to give it some TLC.

Enjoy the drives around those Cheshire lanes
